I am more pragmatic re Joyce and Abbott. It is recognition and a role of sorts that could be a stepping stone to a bigger job after the election. Joyce is going to find it hard going to get past entrenched National wets though.

  2. miltonf

Yeah looks like they’re trying to freeze Abbott out. Unreal.

  3. Habib

Malcolm did everything he could to appease you lot and still, it wasn’t enough.

Really amateurish trolling. I for one don’t recall him douse himself and the assembled cabinet in E10 (keep the carbon footprint down a bit), and flick a Faberge’ Imperial to initiate the only worthwhile meeting he and his acolytes would ever participate in.

F-. Try harder, you stupid boy.

  4. Fleeced

The leftwing MSM call that Abbott hated sheila’s was hysterically funny. The dude was henpecked 24/7.

This might have been his biggest problem, come to think of it.

I can never recall Abbott being filled with rage

Abbott exudes rage. Rage is intoxicating which can be nice but makes you stupid when habitual.

  8. Makka

Gillard looks good these days, healthy, happy with her self, life and pop history judging her more kindly than she deserves. Big contrast to Abbott. Success is the best revenge many would say & unlike her he is a prolonged train wreck.

I suppose you can call on all kinds of metrics to judge, but you have Abbott completely wrong.

Abbott has become somewhat of a tragic figure, treated badly by the Party he truly loves simply because he actually gives a fk about this country and the direction it is going. They great pity is that he was unable to translate his passion into a desperately needed leadership. The Slapper is a self obsessed parasite freak in comparison. Living human scum. The comparison couldn’t be more stark.

Abbott’s rage and related ineffectualness stem from being serially pussy whipped: by his wife, daughters, Credlin and who knows how many other women. It’s writ deep in his punch-drunk face and lumbering demeanor.”

Got a problem with strong women Cary? Your comment reveals serious misogyny and serious psychological issues. Obviously Cary dreams about being pussy whipped, it’s his fantasy. Presenting Cary, our visiting misogynist troll.

    Couple on interesting whisperings.

The Nats expect to be given back what they term their trade portfolio… you msy also see Scullion head to the backbench to enable a promotion of possibly Chester or Gillespie.
Laundy and Bishop almost certainly going to the backbench voluntarily. Payne might go too, but more likely as shift to something like social services or human services. They want to ditch Birmingham too but the South Australian thing may save him – don’t be surprised if dripping wet Ruston comes in to replace him if he goes.
I hear a Victorian will get education to help sort out the Catholic issue.
You may be celebrating the removal of so many moderates, but beware the Morrison allies get most of the pomotions Hawke Roberts plus some of the moderate Turnbullites like Fletcher Ruston. That said I believe we may see both Taylor and Tudge go into cabinet.
Also Sussan Ley could well be back and Karen Andrews promoted, plus Morton Wilson into the parliamentary secretary roles.
The inside cabinet moves could be very interesting. Watch Fifield and Ciobo. Also Cash most likely would be dropped.

Apart from the promotion of Team Morrison, which was predictable, the rest is almost entirely wrong.

Asylum-seekers on the run in the Daintree Rainforest after vessel sinks

More than two dozen people aboard a Vietnamese fishing vessel that sunk at the mouth of the Daintree River, in north Queensland, are being hunted by authorities in the world famous rainforest.

North Queensland police have confirmed that a search is underway to track down the suspected illegal immigrants who waded through croc-infested waters after the vessel sunk earlier today.

Nine people have already been detained, with up to thirty more still on the run. One person has identified himself as a Vietnamese taxi driver, with others refusing so far to disclose their identities

Daintree River Fishing operator Dave Patterson told The Australian that he spotted the “junk-like’’ vessel of Cape Kimberley, near the mouth of the Daintree River, around 8am, north of Cairns.

    From the Oz.

Zing! Mark Steyn on the little man Peter Dutton just assassinated in the national interest:

Turnbull came in small, and went out smaller: He started by canceling knighthoods and ended by canceling cellphones.

Is there a Victoria Cross for political assassins? Peter Dutton is a national hero.

    Abbott exudes rage.

Only towards journalists and that’s hardly unreasonable.

Unfortunately where there’s a journalist there’s often also a bunch of TV cameras so the couch spuds with remote control in hand often caught a glimpse of the tense-jawed Abbott snarling at some ratbag with a gottcha question. Remember the time they managed to trim and edit that clip of Abbott visiting the troops to make him look bad? Classic journalism of the yellow school, Abbott looked about ready the throttle the interviewer.

This is all deck chairs on the Titanic. Dutton should consider himself lucky to have missed the bullet, no, the poisoned artillery shell of the prime ministership. Morrison is on track to lead the libs to their greatest defeat ever, rivaling the Qld liars defeat the election before last. Get ready for the horror show of Shorten, Plibersek, Tony Burke, Chris Bowen, Wong, Dreyfus and all the rest. There’s only one natural for the gig, the man who will have assured the liars victory in 2019 and the next couple of elections after that and will be greatly rewarded: The Great Turdball himself, republican or not, he’ll fit in like a blowy on a turd.

Whoever said Morrison’s religion is Feudal is correct. The Pentecostals run a pile of churches that are essentially personality cults let’s spend all that I’m talking about leadership and managing huge feuds among convicts who think they should be leaders. They have a high churn rate – in other words are lots of people moving in, sticking around for a couple of years, and then moving on – particularly among young people. They are happy clappy, think God directs them ( have no doubt that Maurice and thinks god ordained him to be p.m. ) and generally have the character depth of formica. I don’t think Morrison goes very often although I heard his wife was pretty involved with children’s church and services. They tend to like tithing – in other words asking you to hand over 10% of your gross income- and promise you big rewards in return. This is Morrison’s Pentecostal economics: he will take from you like he took your super and then tell you you’re going to be rich.

Attempting to clear a huge backlog of emails ( Catallaxyfiles remains a major time input ), I just found this one from pollster Graham Young back in May.

Our latest polling (download from here) shows left of centre voters being more committed and unified than right of centre voters. This is partly due to the continuation of resentment at the way Malcolm Turnbull won the Liberal Party leadership. It manifests in the very low opt-in rate of Liberal voters in this sample.

There also appears to have been some cannibalisation of the One Nation vote by the Australian Conservatives.

Belief that the country is heading in the right direction has increased marginally since the last poll, but is still negative, with a net -51% disagreeing that it was heading in the right direction last year, versus -47% this year. There has also been a drop in the popularity of Malcolm Turnbull, with falls across all groups, while Bill Shorten has marginally improved, mainly as a result of increased support amongst ALP voters.

Well that seems to have been pretty good polling.

Climate change, which can be characterised as optimism versus pessimism, also remains a defining issue on the left.

This ‘defining issue’ seems to explain half the Coalition as Left-in-all-but-Name.

Shorten is viewed as an opportunist, who, while he has a united team, is too cunning. Turnbull’s profile is not particularly strong, and he too is seen as being an opportunist, but with the distinction from Shorten that more people see him as trying to do the right thing. In some ways Turnbull’s waffling rhetoric helps to underline this when contrasted with Shorten’s text book barrage of three-word slogans.

Seems the populace may be more astute than the party pollsters give them credit for.

“We are at risk of becoming irrelevant.“

This. Despite having finally shed Trumble, he did his job well. The LP remains a dead man walking and it’s beyond saving. Nothing has changed – it would still be far preferable to burn the LP to the ground and focus on building something to replace it.

    Couple on interesting whisperings.

The Nats expect to be given back what they term their trade portfolio… you may also see Scullion head to the backbench to enable a promotion of possibly Chester or Gillespie.

Ok I was wrong. I was told they asked for Trade and the Chester camp wanted Scullion gone. I was also told Scullion may refuse unless someone other the Chester was the replacement. Obviously Scullion stayed so that became a moot point.

Laundy and Bishop almost certainly going to the backbench voluntarily.

    I was 100% correct.

Payne might go too, but more likely as shift to something like social services or human services.

Partly correct as she was shifted out of defence. I didn’t consider foreign affairs as I was told Fifield was likely for that. Makes sense that they wanted to have women in senior ministries.

They want to ditch Birmingham too but the South Australian thing may save him – don’t be surprised if dripping wet Ruston comes in to replace him if he goes.

Correct as they kept him. Also they did promote Ruston. If they had dropped Birmingham then Ruston was the replacement from South Australia.

I hear a Victorian will get education to help sort out the Catholic issue.

Correct Tehan got it. I had heard O’Dwyer was the other option.

You may be celebrating the removal of so many moderates, but beware the Morrison allies get most of the pomotions Hawke Roberts plus some of the moderate Turnbullites like Fletcher Ruston.

    Again I was completely correct.

That said I believe we may see both Taylor and Tudge go into cabinet.

Taylor into cabinet and Tudge promoted (though one off cabinet) so again I was right.

Also Sussan Ley could well be back and Karen Andrews promoted,

Ley back into ministry and Andrews into cabinet. I was once again correct.

plus Morton Wilson into the parliamentary secretary roles.

Ok that was wrong. Irons got the role I was told Morton had.

The inside cabinet moves could be very interesting. Watch Fifield and Ciobo. Also Cash most likely would be dropped.

Partly correct Ciobo was promoted as a watchdog on Pyne. Cash not out of cabinet but got a demotion to a portfolio that was not a cabinet portfolio until the shuffle. Fifield I was wrong but read the above about Payne for why.

All in all I think it was close to the mark. I am more on top of Queensland things within the party and as explained before on Canberra I rely on multiple party people who feed me information. It is harder to fact check on short turn arounds.

I guess next time I will endeavour to bug the PM’s office to get it even more sccurate and please Baldrick.

I have been in a few such churches, and that is broadly correct, but in discussion on the Gifts, scripture advises us above others to desire prophecy. Presently I am in a church that teaches that rather a lot, and the minister practises it too.

  176. .

…mind you no one hates Pentecostals as much as the Catholics and that feeling is quite mutual

Pentecostals can be utterly ignorant of theology. In particular, one underhanded jibe is that Catholic theology is not grounded in any scripture.

The Hail Mary is broken up into two parts: 1. Who Mary is. 2. Our prayer to Mary. The first half of the Hail Mary (rows 1-5) is contained in Luke 1. The second half (rows 5-6) come from Luke 1, James 5 and various other Biblical texts. Below the Hail Mary is examined line by line:

    https://dioceseofbrooklyn.org/where-is-the-hail-mary-in-the-bible/

If Catholics “pray to Mary” then so do all other Christians, moreso the “bible-believin'” ones.

So I guess there are no “true Christians” at all.

The particularly odious idea about only the baptised not being damned to hell (more any kind of fundamentalists, an American weirdness where Christianity is about Jesus cult rather than the holy trinity) is not scripturally based; the new testament mentions sinless Gews before the ministry of Jesus.

  177. Oh come on

Nor was Trumble a notably better opposition leader than Nelson, as he wasn’t a notably better PM than Abbott. Good on Enstch for his pointed reminder that there is more than one ‘wrecker’ in the LP.

My initial thought was that he copped a reaming from Nein management for missing Markson’s scoop.
However, I also think that, in Trumble world, leaking is a two-way transactional thing where, not only does the pollie leak to the journo, but the pollie (particularly if he is paranoid) wants information on what other leaks and backgrounders the journalist might have.
I wonder if Uhlmann was asked about Abbott’s plotters and simply assured Trumble that he had heard nothing and reinforced Malcolm’s confirmation bias that it could only be 2 or 3 backbench nutters … nothing to worry about.

Welcome rainfalls in NSW’s north west and central west gives desperate farmers some respite
    JACK MORPHET, The Daily Telegraph
    Subscriber only

LITTLE Ella Riley can scarcely remember the last time she saw a puddle, let alone one big enough to wallow in.

That all changed yesterday when rain fell over the North West and Central West regions giving drought-hit farmers a rare reason to smile.

Two thunderstorms at 2am and at 11.30am delivered 25mm of valuable rain, which won’t break the drought but will likely mean Ella’s dad Bruce Riley can plant a sorghum crop in November.

Mr Riley says the bank would have already repossessed his 1500-acre farm if it weren’t for his off-farm income as a carpet layer.

“I haven’t planted wheat this year and didn’t harvest a wheat crop last year either, which would normally be my primary source of income,” Mr Riley said.

“Widespread rain like this gives us some hope.”

rhe Catholic charos probably died out 20 or 30 years ago Roger and whats left of them are a bunch of deeply weird postmenopausal socks and sandal wearing nutters. You only need to travel in places like South America where pentecostalism is huge to see how much the Catholics hate the pentes.

Crassus maybe, but Caligula? The comparison does not even make sense.

The women of the Canberra press gallery are not taking Trumble’s rolling well.

They are looking more like the courtiers at Versailles during the reign of the Sun King (or is that Solar Subsidy King?) than 21st century journalists.

Turnbull would love the fact you’re still talking about him.

I can barely remember Nelson but I do know that Turnbull got even lower primary vote figures than Nelson even if Nelson’s bad figures were mostly because of Turnbull’s constant undermining. Yep Turnbull is quite the record holder. I think Nelson is the only one who’s had the guts to go on record and say Turnbull is a narcissist who is incurable and he said that in his professional medical capacity. I also think he’s done a relatively good job at the war memorial but do take note he was the idiot who wanted to remove inscription from the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier (thank God for Tony Abbott’s intervention there) and inscribed that wankery by Keating. He’s not a bad man, he’s just still an earring wearing dickhead after all these years.

Speaking of media meltdowns, I have been wondering about Uhlmann.
Something was certainly pushing his buttons.

    Spot on.

Peter Hartcher lost the plot when Ridd was rissoled too.

Minor victory in the Lowe household.
Mrs L used to watch Rake, but declared this evening that last week’s episode had pole-vaulted over the shark.
    Off the list.

I think Uhlmann was once in the running to be Tony Abbott press secretary or something and he missed out. ABbott was a very accurate judge of character in that case. Uhlmann should stick to writing fiction.

Turnbull has ,according to Dr Brendan Nelson, a Narcissistic Personality Disorder. Superficially charming but a stronzo to live with , unusual to have had such a stable relationship but Lucy may have made up for mummy leaving him. However he has a history of bad relationships in his career.
What I cannot understand that all the journos would know this so what the hell do the ladies see in him.
Not too many good relationships in the Party I bet no matter how they gloss it up.
Manipulative is one of the traits of NPD so all that stuff he did to Dutton, the Parliament, the Party all as expected. Told lots of lies too.
Also I challenge anyone not to feel enraged if someone made such a remark to them as Riley did to Abbott. .Abbott did extremely well to control himself . You know it is Ok to feel angry but at what level and for how long and if it interferes with rational thinking that is not good for you. As I tell people even JC had a huge hissy fit in the temple.

It’s an amalgam of a few things … being scooped, being wrong about the plot, and going from a favoured leakee to being back in the pack.

No Marcia, you’re not black enough for me, but you are probably black enough to draw a taxpayer-funded income, amirite?

They should divest the aboriginal welfare funds to the full bloods and then let the white blackfellas heckle them for the payout. Removes the charge of racism against the honkey at least.

I was Hinking a bit about that Mark Riley incident. Absolutely incredibly despicable. The whole crew, the sound guys, the editors Riley were all in on it.

Popular support for the Coalition has crashed to the lowest levels in a decade with the newly elected Prime Minister Scott Morrison now faced with leading a shattered government out of the wreckage of last week’s leadership coup and rebuilding a Liberal Party in crisis.

An exclusive Newspoll conducted for The Australian shows the Coalition’s primary vote dropping four points to 33 per cent following the week long chaos that ended Malcolm Turnbull leadership, while Labor’s rose to 41 per cent.

The two party preferred split between the two parties has also blown out from a slim two point gap of 49/51 in favour of Labor only a fortnight ago to a twelve point margin, with Labor now leading 56/44.

In the first head to head poll to test Mr Morrison’s public appeal, Mr Shorten has emerged as the more popular leader, reversing a 12 point lead by Malcolm Turnbull two weeks ago into a six-point lead (39/33) for the Opposition leader over the new prime minister.

It is the first time since February 2015 that Mr Shorten has been the nation’s preferred prime minister.

F****** beautiful not even a honeymoon for Morrison. No wonder Miranda is beside herself hahaha.

Remember an internal news poll showed Dutton getting votes back from One Nation. Morrison could have walked out of that party room meeting and made a statement similar to what Abbott did when he won the Liberal Party leadership in opposition. Basically announce there and then that immigration will be cut by two thirds, Paris is dead that all Green subsidies are over. But no he had to come out grinning like the cat that got the cream and tell us he was on our side and that he was in the fight for his life- in other words just for his seat and his hold on power because that’s what we pay him for apparently – and then take 2 days to come up with a cabinet promoting useless lefties. Yes Scott Morrison you lost us at hello.
