If Ehrlich had any sense of shame he would be volunteering as a shopping centre speedbump for eternity.

And if he had the slightest idea of contributing to humanity rather than just indulging his shame, he would pay people to beat him to a pulp with crowbars every morning so, in his quasi-gelatinous state, he would not pose a scratching or entanglement risk to people’s cars.

There is no State election upcoming

There most certainly is. Gladys will face the people on 23 March 2019. As mandated.

  3. Roger

There is no State election upcoming but there is a Federal election and a Federal by-election yet sooner.

She’s been told to say something to stop the LNP bleeding votes.

Then why did SloMo immediately slap her down?

In her post on Sunday, which garnered 1.5 million likes, Swift said she was a supporter of gay rights and women’s rights and would vote for two Democrats: Phil Bredesen for the Senate and Jim Cooper for the House of Representatives.

Was there anything else that happened at the end of last week which could have induced people to register to vote?

My point was its near impossible to build a competitive system in this circumstance. Its like Ford controlling fuel outlets and refusing to sell to other competitors. Look I do not want government intervention and prefer consumer pressure because eco chambers and manipulation should bother every one.

Well done all the Clever Cats who immediately picked this as fake.

In the doctors waiting room, the ABC is on, lots of chatter about religious schools and gays. They have lots of long shots of a statue of Mary. They never stop.

Is that all Nick? They’re slipping. When they were running their hate Pell campaign, it was rosary beads, crosses affixed to various structures, stained glass, identifiable churches, and other liturgical symbols. Pan in pan out, their zooms were in overdrive. And as you say, it was night after night.

  12. JC

My point was its near impossible to build a competitive system in this circumstance.

20-25 years ago, Microsoft and IBM’s position in the markets they were involved in appeared unassailable. Microsoft’s enormous now income comes from selling standardized software to businesses. This has taken IBM’s business away from them.

IBM was the go to for lap tops. Outside of Apple these days, lap tops etc are like commodity products.

Apple was going broke. Remember that?

Nokia was the go to for phones along with Blackberry. Are they still around?

You’re assuming market stasis which is not long sighted.

15 years ago Google was a baby trying to take on the major search engines of the time. Do you even recall their names?

    Markets are very fluid.

What comes next? Don’t know, but my hunch is that it will be a distributed type network with top players being very different to what’s there now.

  13. Nick

Strangely, GM, Mary featured so often and lovingly that she could almost have been an interviewee.

    Alta Vista, Ask Jeeves, Bing

I think Bing is recent, no?

Recall how useless the other two were compared to Google?

  16. In the doctors waiting room, the ABC is on, lots of chatter about religious schools and gays. They have lots of long shots of a statue of Mary. They never stop.

Isn’t that a little parochial? Almost like they’re attempting to incite hatred of a particular group. Commissioner?

I think this deplatforming will probably eventually fuck these tech companies, without anything else happening.
But let us not pretend these Marxist, globalist xunts deserve you lot white knighting for them in the name of property rights.

Coming along nicely, Arky. (The sandblasting didn’t affect the wood in the doors?)

  20. Geriatric Mayfly

O, let me not be mad, not mad, sweet heaven
Keep me in temper: I would not be mad!

They say the Mistral sends people off the deep-end in southern France. If anything is likely to unhinge me it’s this south easterly sub-gale, which come spring and summer can blow non-stop without hindrance for days and nights. One last howl, before neighbours alert the men with the van.

Blow, winds, and crack your cheeks! rage! blow!

  21. JC

    Continued.

I think Google’s biggest vulnerability is the perception of bias and it increasingly looks like it is. Is time, that far off, where you will be able to make tailored searches according to your political bias?

I could not believe the video I saw of those shitheads getting together in a giant meeting discussing the election results and moping about it. The speakers volunteered their vote and it was wall to wall Crooked.

That to me, it doesn’t show an unassailable position in the market space, it shows fucking arrogance. Total arrogance. I’ve seen that sort of behavior before from Reuters and their trading systems. The arseholes became so arrogant their clients wanted to see the end of them. The result was that the banks got together and created a dealing system of their own. Reuters refused to believe this at the beginning and then it was too late.

We’re seeing the same thing with the big techs. They hate a large portion of their clients and the clients hate them back doubly. Someone is working to make something clients like.

  22. Death Giraffe

You realize that works both ways, right?

  25. .

Google is becoming very poor as a search engine too. Why is this so?

It was a lot better 5 years ago, 5 years before that and I noticed a real decline after 2006.

  26. Nick

You’re making that argument by suggesting government should take control of these big techs. Dot is pointing out that the moment control passes to the government you’ve formalized partisanship.

In any event, they aren’t very successful at muzzling people, because they haven’t been able to as we’ve heard and read what they’re up to and well aware of it. Their attempts at censorship has been woeful because successful censorship means we wouldn’t hear about it.

Rat of Tobruk William Corey dies at 101

    By Tim Dornin
    Australian Associated Press
    49 minutes ago October 10, 2018

He survived the siege of Tobruk and campaigns at El Alamein and in Papua New Guinea during World War II but now Bill Corey, one of the last Rats of Tobruk, has died in Adelaide aged 101.

Mr Corey’s passing was announced by the RSL on Wednesday, with South Australian Premier Steven Marshall saying he typified the selflessness of nation’s diggers.

Mr Corey enlisted in 1940 aged 22, becoming one of the original members of the 2nd/43rd battalion.

In 1941 in the Libyan port of Tobruk, the then private was among the estimated 14,000 Australian soldiers besieged by German-Italian forces commanded by General Erwin Rommel.

Perth underworld figure John Kizon crashes BMW near hospital

    Andrew Burrell
    WA Chief Reporter

    3:04PM October 10, 2018

Perth underworld figure John Kizon has left a trail of destruction after crashing his luxury BMW near Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital during a suspected medical episode.

Police said today a 56-year-old man was in a critical but stable condition at the hospital.

Mr Kizon, a convicted heroin trafficker, smashed his car into a parked vehicle and several bollards before hitting a tree on Hospital Avenue in Nedlands last night.

Update, on a story I posted earlier…..I thought John Kizon was a struggling rock music promoter, harassed and persecuted by the Perth cops, because he’d been a bit of a lad in his youth?

  74. .

The idea that the mining boom died was really premature. Mining boom II is really taking off. So much rail, road and gas pipeline work to new mine sites. Old sites reopening. Weipa bauxite ramping up etc, FMG getting bigger and bigger. Roy Hill is going to be massive.

Tradesmen should be laughing their arses off right now. Inland rail, Metro 2 in Melbourne and the 2nd airport for Sydney.

If we got the taxes and energy policies right this place could take off again.

The new Bowen and Galilee coal mines are absolutely massive.

All of these commodity based exports could push the dollar up (bad for me).

I have no idea and neither do you. The Kenyan talked about restricting speech and it went nowhere.

But those on the right abandoning the field with a shrug and some mumbled shit about property rights has given us the following in the culture wars:

Property rights are a fundamental tenet of Western liberty. They shouldn’t be dismissed so easily. The erosion we’ve seen are pretty dramatic though.. over the last 25 years.

    1. A Hollywood where conservatives are unemployable, and have been for decades.

Historical Hollywood is finished. It’s gone.

    2. An academy where almost all academics in almost all institutions are either openly far left or keeping their bloody heads down.

Yep and it’s a big problem, mainly brought on by government failure. Government subsidies and government spending on tertiary ed has destroyed it.

    3. A far- left media trying everything it can do to unseat a serving president.

And so far it’s got them nowhere.

So yeah, lets just roll over on the only form of media we had a fighting chance. And lets hear the takeaway from libertarians that this is just a private property issue.
I mean, what is it with you?

So explain what it is you want to do. Be specific.

It’s not pathetic because it’s very true. Here’s your problem. Despite the leftwing media propaganda the right won the last election. No by much, but it won. Even immigration, which you and others think should be greatly reduced is created through government edict… in other words, if you think immigration is a problem then it should be seen as government failure.

Do you or anybody on this site think life has improved in the last say 10 yrs for the average Aussie?

It depends on what you mean. For the average Aussie family an improved life has been hard to come by. It’s become a lot harder to get around, facilities and public amenity has been swamped by immigrant turbo fueled population growth. Some pockets have improved, mining has been doing reasonably well thanks to AUD but in general I don’t think improvement generally has been experienced. The escalating cost of living combined with almost non existent wage growth is killing Aussie families. Any wage increases get consumed in higher tax brackets while necessities like energy costs are killing our potential for economic growth.

    What is killing this nation and will continue to do so are 3 things;

    – Taxation
    – Energy policy
    – Immigration policy

All out of control. To avoid the shitstorm ahead we’ll have to start there IMO. I see little dirrence in the 2 major parties on these issues at present. Certainly not enough to have any meaningful effect other than more negative.

  96. Muddy

REPENT and hand it over, you filthy, white scum:

‘How is it our minds are not satisfied? What means this whispering in the bottom of our hearts?’

Listening to the whispering in his own heart, Henry Reynolds was led into the lives of remarkable and largely forgotten white humanitarians who followed their consciences and challenged the prevailing attitudes to Indigenous people.

His now-classic book The Whispering in Our Hearts constructed an alternative history of Australia through the eyes of those who felt disquiet and disgust at the brutality of dispossession. These men and women fought for justice for Indigenous people even when doing so left them isolated and criticised by their fellow whites. The unease of these humanitarians about the morality of white settlement has not dissipated and their legacy informs current debates about reconciliation between black and white Australia.

Revisiting this history, in this new edition Reynolds brings fresh perspectives to issues we grapple with still. Those who argue for justice, reparation, recognition and a treaty will find themselves in solidarity with those who went before. But this powerful book shows how much remains to be done to settle the whispering in our hearts.

Yep and it’s a big problem, mainly brought on by government failure. Government subsidies and government spending on tertiary ed has destroyed it.

Specifically the federal guaranteed student loan program. Which was means tested and feelings based instead of based on realistic national needs (Bachelors in underwater basket weaving instead of hard sciences, engineering, medicine). That’s how you get Depts of wimmins studies, African culture, leisure studies, etc and plenty of time (and class credit) for civil disobedience.

    But here are some ideas:
    1. A concerted caimpaign to play them at their own game and flag left content as “hate speech”. This will only work until they have algorithms to handle it.
    2. Fund new, conservative friendly platforms. The problem here is vertical: the companies rely on other lefty companies for infrastructure. Like Paypal.
    3. Do nothing and hope something happens. They piss off consumers so much and alternatives breaks through. The market will sort it. Assumes it is a free market.
    4. De- regulate. Remove any legisative protection that these tech firms enjoy.
    5. Break them up using coporate regulators anti- trust powers. You presumably don’t like this one. I’m agnostic on it.
    6. Do what Trump did to the Norks: threaten annihilation as a bargaining tactic. But: Doesn’t work with hard core lefties determined to tear everything down. These are exactly the types these firms have allowed themselves to be infected with.
    ..
Those are all the possibilities I can think of. You might have others.

The non-existent wage growth like Makka says is the continuing problem.
For a lot of people life has not improved.
Also the education sector is a mess, Australia dropping down the list yet putting more money in. And universities offering courses that may not help people get jobs but have to pay back and get caught in a trap. And TAFE very expensive and a bit scammy. Education may be the most significant issue we have.

Yes, it’s an ugly business, I don’t deny it, although muddling through wasn’t without its own problems. The thing is we have to cope with an age which is crude and not gentle. There are swings and roundabouts, as usual.

Turning kids into perverts is harder than lefties think. There have always been perverts, but now everyone can see them. Very young children will just laugh at the weirdness and older kids be disgusted. That response should be encouraged.

Cats may to care in this poll on the NT Government’s new grog pricing policy:

THE Gunner Government has faced a public backlash from angry drinkers being stung with higher prices caused by new liquor floor pricing.

President of the Liquor Stores Association NT, Faye Hartley said there had been many complaints from people angry over price increases.

“None of these complaints have come from the long grassers, but they are all from ordinary Territorians who are not problem drinkers,” she said. ”This is forcing the cost of living up and up. We need to be encouraging people to come here, not deterring them.

“This is just another nail in the coffin. The economy in the Northern Territory across all our stores is down 25 to 30 per cent. The value of our businesses has been halved because of everything hanging over our head from what the government intends to do from the Riley Report.

“The feedback is that they are not happy, ‘why are they getting picked on.’

“A lot are older people who are on pensions or low income and like to have an affordable wine or beer with a meal.”

    Some comments:

    Dave Wane
Of course, it is mostly permanently taxpayer-funded people who end up drinking the quantities of alcohol that create the problems you describe. Yet all of our community has to suffer the effects (ridiculously over-the-top alcohol regulations) of treating these “special people” so “preciously”; when what they really need to be dealt with as harshly as the rest of us. Otherwise, how will these “special people” ever learn about how people in a modern western civilisation usually like to behave? Therein, as most Territorians would know, is the unsolvable problem. And the Gunner Labor Government will never solve that unsolvable problem by penalising and over-regulating good and decent Territorians.

    Peter William
the Riley report has not been read by a lot of people and I can understand why, it is supposed to be an evidence based report but as there is no evidence that increased prices reduce drinking in fact it would be easier to put the case that lower prices reduce drinking as $2 a litre wine freely available in the southern states has not bought on the problems Northern Australia has.The report should have identified the coterie of troublesome drunks and made recommendations for them alone. The report also inadvertently I hope has recommendations that would force most corner stores out of business.

Katich for sure. Watfto was just another show pony flat track bully.

  192. littledozer

Watto’s career would have been fantastic under any other than Clarke.

4 test centuries from over 100 innings and at least 1 maybe 2 in dead rubbers when the series decided.

Great short form players but not sure how Clarke is responsible for the test performances. opening or batting 6 made no difference.

Must be the only player in history with a better bowling and batting average in ODI’s than tests

  193. Oh come on

Oh, please. Some old farts here crapping on about Jordan Peterson pointing out “the bleeding obvious”. If it was so damn bleeding obvious, how come you have proven so shit at relaying such an “obvious” message to your children and grandchildren? Seriously. Why aren’t you Jordan Peterson? Maybe it’s only so bleeding obvious to you when it’s pointed out to you, and then you decided that that’s what you’ve been thinking all along.

Yeah, nah. You’re not that special. If you were, you’d be raking in $100k/month via Patreon from the donations of grateful followers.

  194. JC

Crooked’s no better than Maxine Waters. She wants to see a civil war because Americans didn’t vote for her.

Which brings me to the second event of note: Hillary Clinton’s statement Tuesday that Democrats “cannot be civil” as long as Republicans hold the White House and Congress.

“You cannot be civil with a political party that wants to destroy what you stand for, what you care about,” Clinton told CNN. “That’s why I believe, if we are fortunate enough to win back the House and/or the Senate, that’s when civility can start again. But until then, the only thing that the Republicans seem to recognize and respect is strength.”

There you have it — a declaration of war and a license for violence. Where is the media outrage?

Clinton knows we are already in the danger zone when it comes to the political temperature. Her comments, then, are as reckless as bringing a can of gasoline to a bonfire.

She’s stoking trouble to gain a foothold in the 2020 race — and damn the consequences.

Nope. Hurricane Michael originated in the south west Caribbean.

  197. Oh come on

Honestly. I’ve become a bit sick of Jordan Peterson simply because I’ve heard and seen waaaaay too much of Jordan Peterson over the last 6-9 months or so.

But it seems trendy in some quarters for people to dismiss Jordan Peterson’s message as ‘obvious’; the inference being that they too could have presented the wisdom Peterson has in such a way that millions upon millions have found compelling. This is a conceit, nothing more.

Jordan Peterson’s specialty is explaining the bleeding obvious to dimwits and juveniles. My talents lie elsewhere. I don’t have that kind of patience. Still, I’m acquiring some gradually by reading your posts.

  201. Oh come on

Glib, Dr Beau. But superficial. Here’s your test to see if you can walk your talk.

When presented with ideas that are “bleeding obvious”, you ought to have no trouble expanding upon those ideas at length. And don’t do it just to prove a point to me – doing so would be fabulously lucrative for yourself, if Peterson’s experience in monetising the “bleeding obvious” are anything to go by.

So, chop chop! Let’s see what you’ve got. Shouldn’t be difficult, according to you.

First, I don’t need the money. Second, there are far less obvious and consequently far more interesting ideas to think about. So I do.

Michael sustained winds 238 kph now.

A mate of mine sunk his boat. Reckons it was safer on the bottom and we could raise it later.

Did a tri-point anchor out on mine and tacked a shamrock to the mast.

Elected to sit this one out watching the boat from a second floor lanai of kind stranger with wifi. In about 2 hours the show should be pretty sporty.

Thousands spent. Stilt plastering so very hard to find staff. Let alone the 457 spot audit under training police with enforced entry, $800 fine for payslip violation, $5k training fee anyway with no training provided.

I made enquiries about getting my New Zealand sharefarmer Australian citizenship.
“He’s too old at 55 (Whatever happened to discrimination on the grounds of age?) and Australia doen’t need any more farmers.” I did explain that, when the position was advertised, I got ONE Australian applicant, and he backed out when he found out where the property was located. The other applicants were South African and New Zealanders.

  212. Oh come on

It’s very simple, Dr B. Firstly, let me say that I am not belittling your intelligence. I am confident you are a smart guy. Probably a very smart guy.

However, you made what I judge to be an over-inflated claim about the intellectual output of someone who I suspect is smarter than you, as smart as you are. I provided you with a simple and indisputable way to prove me wrong. Note that I didn’t ask you to write a thesis. All you need to do is take an idea of Peterson’s and develop it in a way that demonstrates that it would be bleeding obvious to you. That should be an effortless exercise, given your claimed mastery of the intellectual domains Peterson is known for (in which you infer you are his superior).

You have thus far not been able to do this. Instead, you have been glib and dismissive. Conclusions can be drawn.

I make no claims in regard to the relative intelligence of Peterson and me. I gladly concede his capacity for suffering fools gladly far exceeds my own.

To take the case in point, I cannot recall when I figured out that a life of envy, of comparing myself to others, was a very silly way to spend a life. About age fourteen, at a guess. Nobody told me this, I worked it out all on my own. Now it can’t be that difficult, can it? I was, no doubt, a precocious brat, but if I could work it out so early, calling it bleeding obvious is not unreasonable.

I’m willing to explain why most of his other pearls of wisdom come in the same category if you want. Then you can make huge sums of money by passing it on.

Peterson spends a lot of his time repeating himself in interview after interview. That would drive me mbarking mad. If you’re up for that sort of thing, good luck with it.

A bakery in Belfast has won the right to refuse to make a cake featuring Sesame Street’s Bert and Ernie under the slogan “Support Gay Marriage”.

The UK’s highest court ruled unanimously on Wednesday, however, that the bakers – a husband-and-wife team who held conservative Christian views on same-sex marriage – were not obliged to supply a cake iced with a message with which they profoundly disagreed.

They had a right to freedom of thought, conscience and religion, and to freedom of expression, the Supreme Court said.

If I was flying a plane I would certainly be paying attention. Following Hairy, the map reader supreme, around the Plaka in Athens allows me to skive off a bit. Most of esterdayy I wouldn’t have been able to get back to the apartment we have rented if I lost him. I didn’t even know the address and he was carrying all our money and ID.
