The University of Sydney versus Western Civilization

Tom Switzer of the Centre for Independent Studies has a pungent column in the Fin Review on the Ramsey Centre and the University of Sydney. Read and weep!

It is ironic that some at my alma mater, the University of Sydney, are arguing that the subject of Western civilisation itself is inherently “racist”. A proposal by the Ramsay Centre for Western Civilisation to start a course of such study in collaboration with the university, we are told, must be stopped.

  1. Of course, these are very cool ideas. But, for greater success, more effort is needed. Personally, I have been doing eyelash buildup for a long time; this is my favorite business and my income. But not everything was given so immediately. For a long time, I had to work for someone and earn small amounts. Therefore, at one point, I decided to change my position and decided to draw up. And now eyelash extension business plan ,
, after some time, people work for me, and I do what I love!

What they need is a degree on Western Chauvinism to balance out the cultural marxist lunacy.

I’ll repeat what I wrote on the Trojan Horse thread…

I think it is time that taxpayer funding is withdrawn from any university or college in Australia that #1 does not promote freedom of speech, freedom of ideas, and freedom of association; and #2 fails to promote the benefits of Western Civilization.

I see no point in taxpayers being forced to fund the very institutions that create the termites that destroy our civilization, culture, freedoms, and society.

Apart from the aqueduct, the sanitation and the roads… What has western civilisation ever done for us?

So the University of Sydney will rename itself? Madrassa of Sydney seems like going a bit too far for most students, but, we will see.

Not to be taken if operating machinery, driving a motor vehicle, or any potentially hazardous implement is close at hand.

I saw somewhere the Hungarian PM has banned gender studies from the unis there, what chance of that happening here?

This is a bit silly unless you start bashing blacks and Asians with ill informed slurs about technology and civilisation.

Hindu Arabic, the modern countries that abolished largely black slavery, Japan as a Western nation; truly I don’t get the race idea. Some Indians and more English than the British and Bangladesh has a Parliament in the Western tradition. Europeans largely follow three Middle Eastern religions founded by some Arabs or their historically unfortunate cousins; the foundations of the dominant northern Europeans is found in classical Greece and Rome where race may have been a sticking point but did not stop Roman Emperors of Berber extraction and this is where homonoya comes from.

It all makes sense when you realise that the University of Sydney is pimping for Marxism
    – a nonsense, crypto anti -shemitic grab bag of nonsense founded in economic impossibility and psychotically violent rhetoric about envy.

This is not as important as it seems. There are emerging means of gaining an education that will render the current university model redundant. The Ramsay money will be able to be properly allocated within the new models.

A nice point! And his mill-owning friend and collaborator Engels. Or did he marry Engels’ sister?

From another part of Tom’s piece before the AFR Wall-of-Pay kicks in:

If they succeed in their aims of preventing full and frank discourse on a subject rich in a cultural history essential to Australia, and to so much of the world, they will have undermined the very notion of what a serious university should stand for.

Here is Sydney Uni promoting itself. The ‘Love’ one was plastered on street signage all over the CBD. Goodness knows why but I question the intent of that in terms of attracting student and staff applicants ?

Face it Syd U alumni – they aren’t a serious university these days. They are vanguard cadre of cultural Marxism and associated identity groups ( eg Angry Islamism ) focused on revolutionary social change.

Which make them the same as about 90% of the other universities in the developed world.

They’ve won – the West defeated the obvious enemy to its front in the Cold War, and missed the real grab for the levers of cultural power in its rear.

Engels left a fortune to Marx daughters., but I don’t think they were related.
I went to a book launch at U o M recently and expected a protest as it was an historical account of middle aged white supremacists’ influence on the foundation of Australia they could have said . However met a nice young man on the path who is studying ancient history ,Roman and Greek . Marcus Aurelius I hope as well. I

  13. Dr Fred Lenin

Adopt the Dr Fred Lenin Doctrine defund all humanities at universities , the destruction of narxism is deprivation of ALL taxpayer funding , Universities are full of people who think they are brilliant surely all that brainpower can work out a way of surviving without stealing from the productive working taxpayers? There woukd be a lot of cheap prime land availein no time at all ,and the Centrelink offices would be crowded with starving academics and students . They woukd be looked after with the offer of a job digging the zlake Eyre canal with oicks and c=shovels abd wheelbarrows ,a long term poor paying job,or starve without the dole .

Last week as an alumnus I received in the mail a glossy news pamphlet from the University of Sydney. As I was throwing it into the recycling bin, unread, I noticed it had a begging form on the back page to fill out and send with a donation cheque. Which I declined to do.

Then the following day I received an actual begging letter from them. It too was carefully and firmly recycled.

The moral to this small tale is beggars should not be choosers.

I see no point in taxpayers being forced to fund the very institutions that create the termites that destroy our civilization, culture, freedoms, and society.

At what point does allowing unfettered freedom of speech become a self destructive avalanche.

That is what is happening now, by using freedom of speech to push self destructive ideology cloaked in noble rhetoric of equality, marxism is slowly but surely destroying our civilisation.

There are limits to freedom of speech, one can’t scream fire in a crowded theater and cultural marxism imo crosses the line into destructive behaviour that should not be tolerated.

marxism is based on fantasy and lies and if we continue to allow it to undermine our society, we won’t have one.

  18. Ƶĩppʯ (ȊꞪꞨV)

Likewise freedom of religion. This freedom was never meant to allow a violence based ideology like islam to work openly to undermine and dominate our societies. islam must be rejected not pandered to, or mistakenly thought to be able to be modified into something compatible with the west.

Erdoagn isn’t going after MBS for no reason. MBS is an islamic reformer and poses a threat to islam itself. islam does not permit itself to be modified or adjusted from its mission of global domination.

islam must be declared to be a fake religion and its freedoms removed. islam is a death cult not a religion.

Face it Syd U alumni – they aren’t a serious university these days.

Yes. The sad decline of a great institution. I have an undergraduate and a higher degree from Sydney University and have taught happily there as a full time academic in the humanities over several years when the institution was academically laudable. I have also had other associations with the University in its better days. However, given what has taken place in recent years, there is no way I would now offer them any personal bequest or funding. I also think they should be refused taxpayer funding for many of their activities and that their Chancellery is captive to the Marxist thinking that has produced laughable staffing appointments in some fields of the humanities.

Let them wither on the vine in the soil they have chosen.

  20. Elizabeth (Lizzie) B.

That ‘unlearn’ campaign presents a very one-sided view of the issues that it claims to be teaching.
So this is what your children are going to get? An introduction to uncritical thinking.

From OldOzzie on the Open Forum – a peek behind the Paywallian:

This religious fervour was displayed on Monday night at the University of Sydney when a group of academics gathered to argue against the introduction of a Ramsay Centre for Western Civilisation course on the grounds that the centre, and thus by default Western civilisation, was “structurally, institutionally, morally and epistemically violent to other knowledges

‘…Other knowledges.’ FFS There is their ‘Unlearning’ campaign in a nutshell.

If Syd U starts cranking out people with ‘other knowledges’ about dentistry, anaesthesia and engineering, the body count is going to be notable.

And if we get ‘other knowledges’ accredited grads in pandemic diseases and their containment – we are probably gone in huge numbers ( see: Death, Black et al. 1346 )

  22. Leo G

“…Western civilisation, was “structurally, institutionally, morally and epistemically violent to other knowledges”

All Western Civilisation, or mostly just the Marxist bits?

  23. There are limits to freedom of speech, one can’t scream fire in a crowded theater and cultural marxism imo crosses the line into destructive behaviour that should not be tolerated.
marxism is based on fantasy and lies and if we continue to allow it to undermine our society, we won’t have one.

    Yes, yes and yes.

You don’t allow your enemy to access and use the weapons it will later confiscate from you when it has the ability to do so – which is exactly what happened.

    How bloody stupid are we?

And don’t give me that “the left used to stick up for free speech” horseshit. They didn’t. They used it as a cover and as soon as they had the ability they started eroding free speech of their enemies. And we just sat there and took it because “muh free speech”.

    Further, if these UniTards honestly believe Western Civ is so inherently evil and racist then;
    1. They should not be funded by the proceeds of Western Civ (i.e. capitalism)
    2. They should sod off to North Korea or Venezuela tout suite, one-way ticket, passport (to evil, racist Western country) confiscated on departure, right of return permanently forfeited.

  24. Boambee John

    Bruce of Newcastle at 1108

Send them a cheque for 50 cents. Do not put a stamp or a return address on the envelope.

An insulting level of “donation” would be a more effective way of getting the message across.

  25. IainC

All fascistic movements begin by proposing ever more absurd and fantastical grievances that are reluctantly accommodated by the current rulers to avoid bloodshed. Once a point is reached where accommodation begins to fracture and fragment the structure of normal society, the fascists take over to begins “repairs”.
