Yes, but he twice committed the highest treason, once by dissenting from an Obama brain fart, then by agreeing to work for Trump. A tick in the Demorat box makes this treason worse. He was one of them and now, …

This nervous, inward turn explains why, after a year of eye-for-eye fighting with America, China is determined to bring the trade war to an end. The view, once commonly heard in Beijing, that it could outlast America in a grinding tariff battle has given way to the realisation that, as the country with the huge trade surplus, China has more to lose upfront. Optimism that the government could fight on two fronts—taming its heavy debt burden at the same time as taking on America—has also cracked. The economic outlook has darkened. Analysts are debating whether the government will, once again, deploy a big fiscal stimulus to prop up growthit’s house of cards.

Classic Teh Dumb tonight with Simon Holmes a Court brought in to comment on the COAG energy discussions. Teh Dumb producers describe him as “Melbourne University” in the ticker despite being a part time appointment at the Climate and Energy College. In reality he is a renewables zealot who, like that other grifter Dr Hewson, is a full blown rent seeker, not that you would know that watching Teh Dumb. I also watched Teh Dumb tonight, but switched off after about ten minutes. It was the usual junk: panellists saying that the Liberals would do better if they committed to more renewables, also that they needed to do something about getting more women elected to Parliament. The house Muslim said that the science was settled, climate change was real, etc. Anyway, when Horror Bill wins the next election, all will be well, Australia will lead the world in combating climate change, there will be more women in Parliament, not to mention floods of “asylum seekers” enriching our culture (what’s left of it), and the unions restored to their rightful place in running the country.

Why is our nation so stupid?

I am disinclined to use Christmas as an occasion to alienate people.

That is what the other 364.25 days are for.

The hammer and sickle as a symbol did not hurt anyone.

We are saying the hammer and sickle is the USSR (a metaphor (or even metanym) for the USSR), narrowing down possible associations, gives us a focus, but attributes to the symbol something concrete. But it is us doing that, not the symbol.

A lot of Russians in WWII would associate the hammer and sickle with hearth and home, with hope in victory, or a cause to due for.

A symbol should not be confused with what it symbolises since that relationship is not inherent, but conventional, and the use of a symbol is learned but only conventional to the extent it is communal – anything else is personal.

The word ‘delicious’ represents a pleasant taste sensation, but we know that not all people agree on what is delicious. And that is not how we use the word.’Sweet’ and ‘spicy’ find more agreement – but not absolute.

When I was in Japan we and the Japanese used to disagree about what colour the ‘go’ light was on traffic lights. We said green, they said blue. We had learned different colours meant ‘go’ – the symbolism had a life of its own separate from the lights themselves.

(In fairness, they were a kind of turquoise- I think Japanese Aoi covered a greenish and bluish part of the spectrum but for them it was all aoi.)

Why is our nation so stupid?

No doubt it is complicated and involved to answer such a question. One component is the lack of beatings IMHO. Some people just need it beaten into or out of them, literally. Preferably during the formative years. It became socially unacceptable to do so for some reason. We live with the results. A generation of pansies that never experienced the clarifying effects of a swift uppercut as response to some idiocy or malignancy leads them to think that consequences extend only as far as the verbal.

However, a simple and cost effective solution presents itself.

WRT Merry/Happy Christmas vs Happy Holidays – it is not a holiday, it is Christmas. I am happy to wish others good will on their religious days, but I resisit the shrinking of the relevance of Christmas by calling it a holiday.

One must make a stand somewhere, else where is the line to be? Increment by increment the line is shrunk. When it is too late, the line is lost. It is time to make a stand now, before the line is somewhere we can no longer reclaim what we have lost, and be like the Christians in those countries where Christianity was in the major, to where it is now in the minor, and fading fast.

Toblerone, the iconic triangular shaped chocolate bars have been made halal to meet the demands of the Islamic market.

The change, that silently took place in April this year, has now been revealed to Swiss newspaper Blick.

Owned by the American food company Mondelez, all Toblerone bars are being produced in the Swiss city of Bern.

A spokeswoman of the company explains to Blick that since April the sweets comply with the Islamic purity law and ingredients and production now meet halal standards.

She says the “Toblerone’s original recipe remained unchanged”. She justifies the change with Toblerone’s status as export product: 97 per cent of the bars are exported to other countries.

Specifically the halal certification means that the production process must be inspected and approved by imams as being in line with Islamic standards.

Charles Michel, the Belgian prime minister, resigned on Tuesday night after his government collapsed in the face of virulent opposition to his signing of a UN migration pact from his erstwhile coalition partners.

Qld Tattersall’s Club allows women members.

The exclusive Tattersall’s Club will allow female members for the first time in its 150-year history, following a close vote on Wednesday afternoon…

Under the previous rules, women were able to enter the club if their partner or a family member was a member, or if they were attending a function, but they weren’t able to be full members.

Tattersall’s Club president Stuart Fraser told media outside the club after Wednesday’s vote that the club had been seeking a more “family-friendly” atmosphere.

“We welcome the women in our families, the women in our lives, and the women in our communities,” Mr Fraser said.

Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk last month called the club “out of step” with modern Australia by not allowing women to become full members.

On Wednesday Ms Palaszczuk gave her reaction to the Courier-Mail: “History. It’s about time.”

The whole point of such a club is to be out of step with dick-headed modern Australia.
No that it’s in step with dick-headed modern Australia, it will fail.

Worth restating: my law of clubs:

It is a truism that whenever women force their way into a club, the club declines into mediocrity. The men start leaving to go elsewhere, then women follow them there, instead.

  75. ArthurB

I am an avid reader of some American and British websites, most of them similar in outlook to the Cat and Quadrant On Line. There is, however, one major difference: the American websites almost never run articles about climate change, I suppose because Trump has refused to be sucked into the greatest scam of the modern age, with the result that America has power which is cheap, reliable and abundant.

A high proportion of the articles on American websites are about immigration, its effects on the ethnic composition of the USA, the possible outcomes, and the momentous effects of which are already changing the political landscape.

From about 1880 until 1914 the USA was flooded with European immigrants. In 1924 Congress passed an act which had the effect of reducing immigration to a trickle. In 1965 the Act was abolished, and replaced by legislation which was non-discriminatory. The proponents of the 1965 Act averred that there would be little or no effect on the nation’s ethnicity, but in reality the changes have been immense. In 1960 about 90% of the population of the USA was white, but in 2018 whites are now a minority in some States and cities, and in the not too distant future whites will be a minority in the nation which they built. Immigrants tend to vote Democrat, and some commentators say that while Trump may win a second term, there is a possibility that there will never be another Republican president.

I admire the Americans for the passion and vigour with which they debate immigration. What a contrast to Oz!! Here, commercial TV ignores the subject, and we all know how the national broadcaster does not allow dissent on multiculturalism.

We are sleepwalking into an uncertain future, which many of us will not like.

Dr Henry said it would not take 10 years to repay customers, but changing the bank culture was a longer-term issue.

He told reporters after the meeting, “I’m certainly very disappointed. Embarrassed? Yes I am embarrassed.”

The protest vote was not just about pay, but related to the revelations at the royal commission.

“What we heard loud and clear .. was that we need to be much much better in the way we provide services to customers,” Dr Henry said.

The board was considering a variable reward scheme that delivers zero bonus outcomes for non-performance.

Yep, they are ‘considering’ the idea that if you don’t perform, you don’t get a bonus.

Bank shareholders haven’t done too badly.

But come on johanna, we have to at least keep up appearances that this is an economics blog. Why do the “Big Four” run a lavishly rewarded sheltered workshop? Because of lack of competition … and a government sponsored cartel system that guarantees the banks can’t fail and puts huge obstacles in the way should Australians want alternatives. Peer to peer lending (e.g. Lending Club) is going great guns in the USA but pretty much unworkable in Australia. “It’s confronting to think about, but we have to ask ourselves whether we’d need prisons for women at all were it not for family and domestic violence,” said Elena Campbell, associate director of research, advocacy and policy at RMIT’s Centre for Innovative Justice. “Family violence is the experience that probably contributes most directly to women’s trajectory towards offending, so if we made an effort to respond more effectively to men’s violence against women and children … perhaps we wouldn’t need to spend more and more money on incarcerating those women.”

It is all men’s fault; nothing due to women.

Experts say there are a number of historical contributing factors. “The effects of colonisation, attempting to annihilate our culture and connection to land, the acts of genocide and the forced removal of our kids have all contributed to putting more [Aboriginal] women behind bars,” said Antoinette Braybrook, chief executive of Djirra, an organisation supporting Aboriginal women experiencing family violence in Victoria.

  131. struth

    Good Moaning.

Here’s a few things to think about regarding male violence in Aboriginal communities.
It is by far and away less common than female violence.

The females are constantly bashing each other over the heads with Nulla Nullas and many times I have actually seen them taking turns.
Actually knocking the other one to the ground and then handing the weapon on to her victim for her turn.
But most of the time it’s the females going off.
If you have ever been to places like Tennant Creek, Darwin, where you get slight glimpses of this while the vagrants wander around town you may notice that it’s usually the women screaming their tits off at each other from one end of the street to the other.

But there is a lesson for us here.
The true vulgarity and violence of women who’s men are beaten down, who can’t rely on their men for protection are carrying on like this.
It wasn’t always like this, (or let’s say, this bad)for aboriginal people.
The left wing welfare state trapping them in this disaster, for they are now, in outback communities, drug fucked humans without hope, barely able to feed themselves, means their women, (much like ours are becoming), feel insecure and terrified of the world, so become hysterical, just like the ancient Greek women who felt insecure with their men because they’d decided to bum each other off instead of giving their women a good seeing to, and where the term Hysterics originated from.
The ancient Greek women weren’t to blame (if they’d waxed their moustaches)
    Their men were.
And it is true today, whether in aboriginal communities or in our own culture.
    Insecure women are fucking insane.
    This is the technical explanation!
Men , rise up and get them back in the kitchens and the bed rooms give them a good sexual seeing to, (think of your country).
They’ll be happier for it, no matter what they say!!!!!!

    Flood of drinkers hit BDR
    KIERAN BANKS

MORE than 6000 problem drinkers have been added to the Banned Drinkers Register during the 12 months since its reintroduction, a Gunner Government evaluation has found.

It also prevented 9000 alcohol sales, according to the evaluation carried out by the Menzies School of Health Research.

As of September 30 last year there were 1500 problem drinkers on the BDR. That figure has grown to 7400.

The evaluation found alcohol treatment episodes have increased from a monthly average of 221 to 259, and offenders with a high number of alcohol-related incidents have shown a reduction since being on the BDR.

Sobering up shelter admissions have also increased during the BDR’s first 12 months.

Health Minister Natasha Fyles said Territorians had had a gutful of crime and anti-social behaviour on the streets.

“We have taken clear steps to build on the BDR with a suite of evidence-based reforms for alcohol harm reduction, based on the Alcohol Policy and Legislation Review (Riley Review),” she said.

Deakin University’s Centre for Drug Use, Addictive and Anti-social Behaviour Research director Professor Peter Miller said the NT has the highest per capita consumption in the country.

He said alcohol-attributable deaths occurred in the NT at about 3.5 times the rate they did in Australia generally.

“For this reason, and to ensure the best mix of policy intervention and value for money of taxpayer dollars, the ongoing and rigorous evaluation of the BDR is essential,” he said.

When I was younger, aboriginal chilpies (older blokes) used to walk around town in their western boote and hats and ringer garb, so proud of being stockmen, of which they were generally very good.

Then came the left and welfare and all manner of disgusting influence.
Lefties despise country music and the types of people that listen to it.
So they put white lefty musicians out onto the communities with open cheque books, who bought the best instruments and changed the aboriginal people’s music to one more palatable to the racist leftist mind, and now we have garbage “desert reggae” and hip hop, which of course is what a lefty considers appropriate music for their blacks to play.
The destruction of aboriginal people by racist leftism is what got me politically motivated in the first place.

Why isn’t Trump pulling out of Afghanistan?

It’s likely because of Pakistan. If the Paki clients win in Afghanistan then the Pakistan Islamicized deep state will be able to divert money and arms to other causes. Already there’s been an upswing of violence in Kashmir.

The warning signs are loud and clear (15 Dec)

Kashmir today is not merely volatile, but is drifting inexorably into anarchy. Violence is the dominant factor. The numbers of militants and security personnel killed dominate newspaper headlines. Over the past three years, South Kashmir had been the main epicentre of violence, but more recently, North and Central Kashmir have also emerged as violence prone. This year has witnessed some of the highest levels of violence since 1989. Areas such as Srinagar which had previously been declared a ‘militancy free zone’ have again witnessed a series of militant attacks.

Having a nuclear Pakistan with nothing to keep it occupied is a geopolitical nightmare. At the moment they are fixated on Afghanistan to add it to their sphere and keep the Indians out. A further reason for staying in Afghanistan is to suck China in as well, which has been happening. The faceplant China just suffered because of their belt-and-road investments in Pakistan may well be repeated in Afghanistan.

Then on top of it all the jihadis are moving from agriculture to chemistry.

Report: Afghan District Bordering Iran Embracing Crystal Meth Production (18 Dec)

Nearly 80 percent of all households in the Afghan district of Ghoryan, located in Herat province along the Iranian border, are involved in some stage of the crystal methamphetamine-making process that is currently fueling addiction epidemics plaguing Afghanistan and Iran, TRT World reported this week.

One advantage of being at war with these people is you can splat the labs with Hellfire missiles without hassle. Much harder if you aren’t in a technical war with them.

Of course the labs are getting their ingredients from either China or Iran. Both have an incentive to foster drug supplies into the West. Herat was the epicentre of the Great Game in the 19thC, and it still is in the 21stC.

They were proud of the job they did, and the station they worked on, at least in the Kimberly’s, provided food, clothing and basic medical care for themselves and their extended families. It’s not globalism that keeps the US in Afghanistan, but national security. You can’t control Afghanistan from the Strategic Air Command’s bunker in Diego Garcia.

Shorten haunted by ghost of socialist past

Bill Shorten will lead Labor into the next election with the party’s central mission statement being to implement the socialist objective, after the ALP national conference ignored a directive from almost four years ago to review its creed.

The party’s previous national conference, in July 2015, resolved to set up a cross-factional committee to review the 1921 socialist objective and recommend to the next conference how it could be modernised. The resolution required the party “to commence a review of our socialist objective, with a view to replacing the existing language with the most appropriate and modern set of principles and objective”.

In October 2016, Labor’s national executive to set up an eight-member review committee with former Labor MP Tim Hammond, then the party’s vice-president, as chairman.

However, the review committee held no meetings with party members, MPs or unions, nor did it call for submissions on a new statement of belief, as it was directed to do by the national conference and executive. The motion agreed at the 2015 national conference also asked the review committee to “circulate draft proposals” for rewriting the party’s objective ahead of this week’s national conference.

Yeah but yeah but the NT is a mendicant state unlike the others. Maybe Tasmania fits best that model.

The NT is propped up by enormous “special” federal funding. The Outback communities could not exist without it, and there is a good argument for showing that much of the rest of the place exists to service such places, and themselves of course. This about the NT was pretty instructive a few days back:

Since the early 2000s, the NT’s public service has increased in size by almost half. Nearly 40 per cent of those bureaucrats are in administrative rather than frontline roles. That compares with only about 16 per cent of clerics and administrators in Western Australia’s public service, or 9 per cent in the NSW public service. More than 3 per cent of the Territory’s bureaucrats are executives compared with less than 1 per cent in Victoria’s.

If you understand the message Jesus taught, that humans need to repent and be forgiven, then the “cruel nature” of nature is a blessing. In a clinical trial, smokers who agreed to join a cessation programme were divided into three groups. One received a high volume (five a day) of cognitive behavioural therapy-based personalised SMS messages, another a lower volume of the same messages (one to three a week), and the control group received none at all.
The groups blasted by texts reported more success at giving up than the control group.

Imagine walking up a flight of stairs and then reaching a landing. Each forward step that you take on that landing will see you reach the highest level achieved.

And as you walk forward, you will get a bunch of data points representing the highest level ever. But, of course, you won’t be going any higher.

    Attention to language is important.

You are so desperate to prove women are the root of all evil you have lost the plot

How many times do I have to say I blame men?

You really have a problem with comprehension don’t you notafan?

You magically think that what I have written is what you think I have written.
What you think I “really mean”
You’re not that bright to know that.

What has the amount of deaths got to do with the amount of violence?

That is not the evidence provided by contemporaneous eye witnesses or historians

I very much am such a person, and more so than you may think.
You are quoting vested interests and Keith Windshuttle is good but has done less time in Aboriginal Australia than I have and we’ve both studied the history of these people and white settlement professionally.

    So

Stealth and surprise should easily make up the strength differential in a domestic situation.

    ..
When two drunk people assault each other, the one with a strength advantage dies less often.
In the case where one is coldly calculating to off the other then it is less of an advantage.
    Which case is more common?
    The drunken assault.

From memory women kill in domestic situations at about 30% the rate that men do.

They have a tendancy to be 100 % of the penis cutting perpetrators .

    Statistics, statistics.

The only reason more women die than men in aboriginal communities is because they are the weaker sex.

The brutal reality of life comes back to bite you on the arse when you live in a socialist welfare utopia.

Does anyone truly believe the women were all in church singing Kumbaya when mercilessly attacked by the men?
An aboriginal community is a plague filled war zone of inhuman behaviour not often seen in the worst of the world’s third world shitholes.

Jesus at the very least, killed a whole herd of pigs.
How many other creatures he joyfully and righteously murdered is not recorded.
For all his talk of hairs on heads and little sparrows, he was no damn vegetarian.
