    From the old thread:

‘ALP created many ministries and ministerial secretaries. Everyone had to get something. Once created never go.’

IIRC, it was the Menzies government that created the three tiers of Ministers of State – Cabinet Ministers, other Ministers and Parliamentary Secretaries – back in 1952.

From my recollection, however, it was the Keating government that significantly expanded the number of Parliamentary Secretaries. In Keating’s words, “the institution of Parliamentary Secretary provides a very inexpensive means not only of giving talented individuals executive experience but providing Ministers with needed support.”

The Coalition has carried on the tradition, but, more honestly of more naively, refers to the mas ‘Assistant Ministers’. I think the pay rates are the same.

from my understanding of the Ministers of State Act, a government can appoint up t0 42 Ministers of State – Cabinet Ministers, other Ministers and Parliamentary Secretaries/Assistant Ministers.

I bet that now he has no tolerance at all to screaming, out of control girls.

Fall Leaf sales fall: Nissan Leaf sales collapse in Ontario after incentive axed

There is little question that rebates are essential to selling EVs, but no one really knew just how much until now.

Sales of electrified vehicles have plummeted in Ontario since the Doug Ford government removed purchase incentives, and Quebec dealers are reaping the benefits as inventory is reallocated, slashing their wait times for delivery.

Since the Ford government in July ended rebates of up to $14,000 and the final recipients were registered Sept. 10, sales of the Nissan Leaf have all but collapsed. In August, 695 units were sold. In November, just 10, according to figures supplied by Nissan Canada.

Just shy of a 99% drop in sales when the subsidy was removed. Wow! And who might you ask have been the buyers of Leaves?

“There is no doubt that the consumer for electric was somewhat different … more conscious of the environment, new technology, being ground breakers, etc.

Greens, in other words. Yep I can so see millions upon millions of electric cars being sold to eager deplorables in America. Not.

Remind me to never watch another one of your links again. It clearly shows a verbal confrontation between the girl and the man. The man then pushes (hard) and she falls over some distance away. The girl gets up , reacts and returns to him. He then knocks her out with a single punch to the head. Each time force was used was by the dude. Seriously, you’re a hallucinating moron. Zero credibility, as you are unable to view a vid and report on it accurately. Just a dim bulb.

Son is medico for a number of nursing homes ,he tells me that usually there is only 1 trained nurse on the floor . This was so when his father was in a nursing home. P CAs are not permitted to do anything medical and that includes checking skin,.so many medical problems go unreported.
Dementia is also increasing and again PCAs probably do not know how to handle this . A friend had to move out of home as his wife got so physically aggressive with him, fortunately he was wealthy enough to have fulltime carers for her.
I have seen someone with frontal lobe dementia become really aggressive with staff where I am She stands and screams will not stop and there is not much one can do ,talking calmly and softly still does not work.
Costs are going to sky rocket that is if there enough well trained staff to go around and as 130,000 are on the waiting lists for home care, cannot see things improving .

I worked with a trainee nurse in Wilcannia Hospital who told me his wife and he were going to get their RN registration with another couple.
This meant they could all staff a retirement home, give out S4 and S8 drugs and then sit in the office doing admin stuff. The wards would be staffed by 1 Enrolled Nurse and several Assistant Nurses. He bragged about how much money he was going to make by letting the EN/AiN nurses do all the work.

You’re a solitary man in a crowd of a dozen hysterical female teenagers who may be working themselves up to attack you. In this situation, you take out the most aggressive, and you do it quickly. The alternative could be getting killed or maimed.

Sure, that might be a complete misreading of the situation, maybe all they want to do is shriek and virtue signal. A man’s risk assessment tends to depend on how aggressive he is, a hard bastard will assume the worst, a gentle softie will assume everyone else is a gentle softie.

Over time, this cuts down on the number of gentle softies. The hard bastards are more likely to survive. Sometimes a soft answer turneth away wrath, so it’s often a good first move. But if the enemy has already got physical, it’s probably too late for words.

Winston, I was never more glad that you were a male nurse than the other night, and later all the next day, when I used your ‘authoritah’ to finally coax Da Hairy Ape to the vet (sorry, the doc). 🙂

And now, on things medical, I have just returned from having my boozies pulled around and brutally machine-pressed in a rotating torture gadget by a brusque female who never once made a pleasantry: no hello, no please, just terse instructions. Strip to the waist, arm up, round here, chin there, step to the right, turn to the left, stay still. Then pressssssssssss (aaargh!) … whammmmm. Radiated numerous times, on the four points of the compass and some inbetween ones. No goodbye either. Just a sour-faced rather Lezzo we’ll let you know.

To get over it all I had to go and consolingly buy myself something nice: a new nightie, and a pretty pair of designer slippers. Read my feet, I say gaily (I am reclaiming that word) to Hairy to cheer him up when I return home, given his bad leg and general grumps. Hello, he deciphers embroidered on one blue-velveted foot, then Sailor, embroidered on the other. And just where do ya t’ink you are intending to wear those? he says peering at me over his reading glasses. He really has no idea about footwear. They’re slippers, sweetie, for around the house; for your eyes only, I assure him. I am reclaiming my feminine side, I explain. Let’s see dat nightie on ya in that case, he leers, but I remind him of doc’s orders not to elevate his heart rate.

He then turns on the TV and we get our first news of the serious terror attack that has just taken place on a ‘luxury’ hotel and office block in Nairobi. Glad we went last year, says Hairy, identifying that we were staying in the general location, although in a more upmarket hotel than this one appeared to be on cursory inspection of the video pics. Ours had intense security protection, but even so, we were probably too blasé about the perils of Nairobi. We feel very sorry for the Kenyan people, who are on the whole (with the exception of those wanting to confiscate my darling Bully of Minos ‘cos of his murderous horns) very friendly and nice to know. Dreadful too for those who, like us, wanted a pleasant holiday on safari in Kenya with a Nairobi stopover.

Call me old fashioned, call me what you want, but a bloke doing a female job then posting tough guy like comments at a blog just doesn’t compute.

It’s been proven, that if men hang around sheilas too much, do sheila-like work, estrogen levels rise. It’s science and the argument settled on this one.

so how many kids encircling you, your wife and small child, screaming, and repeatedly advancing on you does it take before knocking one of them senseless is justified?

Back up. The former male nurse asked people to view a vid and offer their opinions on the guy knocking out an 11 year old girl. I looked at the vid, summarized what I saw in terms of the interaction between the man and the 11 year old and posted it.

You’re now offering additional information. The male nurse implied the vid alone would exculpate the man. From the vid alone, I gave the reasons I wasn’t sure about that.

You’re a solitary man in a crowd of a dozen hysterical female teenagers who may be working themselves up to attack you. In this situation, you take out the most aggressive, and you do it quickly. The alternative could be getting killed or maimed.

Advice from old school Vic Pol:

If you’re outnumbered, the best you can do is make sure that you lay the first one out that you get your hands on. Having done that, you’ve just improved the odds and made a large number of those still standing think twice.

By definition, you really are a sexist pig aren’t you?

not that there’s anything wrong with that….

  140. Zatara

What’s the entire story with that video?

From what I’ve seen and read it could well be this:

Guy goes to the mall with his wife and young child.
Family wraps up the shopping and attempts to exit the mall.
Hyped-up pack of feral teenagers have blocked the entrance, possibly/probably fighting among themselves.
Man attempts to get his family past the pack and out to their car.

Claiming instant “disrepect,” the baying pack of bullet-proof jackals instantly turn on the family, circling them and nipping at their heels.

One strikes man from behind (the direction where is wife and child are sheltering).
At the same time another attempts to count coup by a direct approach and assault to his front.
Not wanting to be lured away from his family and hoping to clear a path out of the danger area he responds to the frontal threat by shoving them vigorously out of range.

Threat rushes back at him and begins to swing a punch at him with her right hand.
Man counters threat by a straight left which removes her from further participation in the contest, lets the rest know he is indeed a threat to their health records, and opens a path for his family to safely egress to the parking lot.

It works. Anyone attempting to judge this man who has never faced a feral gang of hyped-up teenagers, potentially the most vicious thing on earth, isn’t doing him justice.

About the video, it was shot by a member of the jackal pack, edited, and put online. It is a very safe bet to assume it was edited to show what they wanted and not show what they didn’t want. There are much longer versions of the video online which support the story line above. My prediction is that the identifiable jackals gets counter-charged with assault and battery, as a lawsuit in civil court if necessary, and the threat of such makes it all go away.

It’s a failure of imagination and lack of experience in non-verbal conflict, Rick. Civilised people just assume that conflicts are settled by words. Or that you can always withdraw in good order. The world isn’t always that nice.

If attacked by a gang, the correct tactic is to hit the gang leader fast and hard. Preferably while the rest of the gang is working itself up. If there isn’t an obvious gang leader, hit the most aggressive.

If you suffer from taboos, like never hitting children or never striking a woman, you just have to hope that your opponents are as taboo-ridden as you are, like never hit a man when he’s down, and never, never drive a stiletto heel into a man’s belly. Otherwise you could be in big trouble.

Local crews were identified as the most violent group type by 45% of respondents. https://www.theguardian.com/culture/2019/jan/16/from-a-gillette-ad-to-high-art-why-i-yelled-at-a-theatre-audience

First off, an actor acts out a part made up from the worst bits of stories told by other blokes…

When Daughter premiered in Edinburgh it divided critics for its subject matter, a “horror show” of modern masculinity. In it, a moneyed, white, middle-class, almost-middle-aged man dances in fairy wings to Beyoncé and relates the emotional story of his now six-year-old daughter’s brutal birth. His subsequent monologue charts his anxieties as a man obliged to raise a female child, and it’s a fear that makes increasing sense as he proceeds to list a catalogue of horrible things he’s done to women over the course of his own life, from the hateful, to the exploitative to the – arguably – abusive.

Am I alone in my suspicions that some of these stories were possibly less than scrupulously fact checked?

It’s not this content but how the audience reacts to it that makes the show worthy of analysis beyond the theatre. According to its production company, Pandemic Theatre, the show was sourced from the stories of real men of the same demographic it depicts, who had been encouraged by Daughter’s team of co-creators to answer questions about their more secret selves.

Fortunately the only respondents were all rich white men, or something….
Hysteria and inflammation of the womb is my professional diagnosis.

The composite becomes almost a clinical monograph of the western Anglosphere’s apex predator: the moneyed white man. The insight imparted is that, with enough class privilege and ready cash to indulge their every whim, such men are restrained only by the limits of their own moral conscience.

Hysterical inflamed womb frightbat listens to this composite of all that is evil, male and white and declares “THEY LIVE AMONGST US” before collapsing to the floor and speaking in tongues.

Losing my own shit in the Q&A at Sydney festival was not my finest hour, but I was flabbergasted by the insistence from the audience of middle-class women that the content was shocking; that there was anything surprising about middle-class men nursing an inner misogyny while collecting porn, getting lapdances, failing to declare STIs to their partners, taking drugs and screwing around.

“Surely, there are not men like this,” more than one audience member remonstrated in the face of data so hard that within 100 metres of where we were sitting statistics would have found a man just like that. Something that I pointed out, quite loudly.

Apparently Tony Abbott was withing 100 m?
And this corker of a line from the black and white menstrual showpony..
She only just declared this composite of all that is evil white and male exists within 100m of her.

What is it but delusion when the very same audience members who can’t discern a professional international actor from the woman-hating character he’s playing can simultaneously deny that a character so believable to them actually exists?

Which leads her to declare any bloke who dislikes the Gillette “all men are scum, buy our stuff, k, thx” ad must be brutal white blah blah blah….

The tangible reality of male woman-haters is, sadly, something you cannot escape if you live on the internet. I’d recommend those still insisting they are shocked by the content of Daughter to visit the comments section under social media posts promoting the new ad for razor brand, Gillette.
    ..
Those misogynists and their enablers have not taken the ad well, and it’s somewhat revealing of their characters that they read criticism of misogyny as an attack on universal maleness. It is stunning to observe an insistence, from one offended man at least, that those who “stormed the shores of Normandy” did so not to prevent the spread of fascists but to affirm their right to wolf-whistle strangers and grab women’s tits.

Followed by a diversion to “shit which not only didnt happen, but can be seen from actual real time figures to be wrong” land.

It’s encouraging to learn that the misogynists are, again, in the minority of popular response to the ad, which has been hailed widely – and emotionally. I shed some tears – though whether they were for the ad or the sad reality that authentic moral leadership for men and boys is being shown by a razor company rather than, say, the president of the United States, I cannot tell.

I do know that when ex-NFL footballer turned actor and feminist activist Terry Crews appeared onscreen, the floods came. Misogyny – and the solidarity of those who battle against it, high art to low – sure makes for an emotional week.

Dislikes, despite a desperate rearguard action by the company are still running more than 2-1 against the gillette video.

Some people are easily provoked, Dover. My rule is to keep it at the verbal level wherever possible, and avoid straight abuse. Having said that, if it’s inevitable that an altercation is going to get physical, get your retaliation in first. The guy in the video was responding to a physical attack, admittedly from a child, but a child who was one of a pack. If he was on his own, he might have taken a chance. If his wife and child were there too, his response was the only one possible.

The trouble is, it has infested garden beds right through the middle of e.g. the clump of Giant Kangaroo Paws. So spraying it is not an option.

Tom, I really recommend you look at getting your own safety razor. The blades cost near nothing (the link above to Beard and Blade has 100 Astra blades for $15) and I find they can last for a month each. Get a basic razor and a badger hair brush and you are done.

Shaving soap is nicer than the aerosol foams, does not contain the chemicals which help foaming but dry your skin, and come in innumerable scents – all of which are more interesting and (I cringe to type it) more elegant than the aerosols.

Finally, I find the shave at least as good, typically better than disposables once you develop your technique. It is a peaceful unhurried ritual which is not a bad way to start the day.

Let’s get to the point here … if you are a white male with some background connected to Christian ethics and/or liberal democracy then you personally are to blame for one thing and one thing only: the success of your culture. Low egg prices???
    Where?
    Please tell!

Three bucks a dozen for non organic (!) eggs at Coles. That’s less than 30c per egg.

Bloody good value. Despite the lying claims of the free range crowd, they have bright yellow yolks and taste very good indeed.
