Never ever threaten me again, or you’ll be selling your home to make up legal fees. You first pulled that suitor stunt and I never back down. Just remember that next time you issue a threat against me.

Do that one more time and your slanderous accusations against me will be dealt with harshly and without remorse….

Get a grip, JC. It’s just a blog.

I read your comment but here’s the point. There are many trolls here – not just those you disagree with politically. For instance, endlessly posting mindless Muslim baiting comments is a form of trolling.

Those idiots you referred to are basically par for the course as far as leftwing views go.

  3. Eyrie

Can we vote JC off the island?

  4. mh

Or more accurately, you are a guest on someone else’s website.

Gilas, ignoring works, especially for the abusive ones. But sometimes, I just cannae help myself. Perhaps the instructions on how to deal with them need review.

We need to be aware of the big picture.

Curry’s turn shows she has a decent mind and able to change her mind when evidence changes. You don’t appear to have this attribute and want to not only vote her off the island, but me too because I showed you up for being a closed minded pygmy. Grow a set or bugger off.

  11. Eyrie

Curry is just another Climate carpetbagger. She knew which way the wind blew and was making a nice living as a university professor and consultant pandering to the alarmist bs. Then Climategate happened and she changed her tune. Nothing to do with science.

    How firetrucked is Australia?

Australian logistics is a delicate artform, often unappreciated… I find that for wine shipments, using Australia Post with a destination of a PO Box works quite well, if and only if you choose a good post office for your PO box (some are undoubtedly better than others), and shipping during the cooler part of the year is overall a good idea. Most shipments turn up in about one week… insist on a tracking number even if it costs a buck more.

That silly old Indian codger with the heathen drum and his coterie of young companions targeted the MAGA-capped lad and then didn’t like it when the stout-hearted youngster stared him down. This was today’s fake news lie from the media (dutifully run by the ABC earlier today).

    Lol.

She knew which way the wind blew and was making a nice living as a university professor and consultant pandering to the alarmist bs.

Like I said, she changed her mind when the evidence changed, but you- Eyrie- have this amazing ability to read minds and see the truth. You’re a walking lie detector machine.

Then Climategate happened and she changed her tune. Nothing to do with science.

Climategate did not change one single mind in terms of a cross over. It still hasn’t.

The adults are discussing science about which you have no idea.

Yep, the adult like you, right? Curry views are lacking because, according to you, she once believed in alarmism and changed her mind. But you, being a first rate scientist and walking lie detector can see through all this. That’s some real hard science I’m seeing. 🙂

What exactly are wrong with Curry’s views since she took the turn? Detail them!

You are the worst commenter here for making personal sledging attacks and I’m sure plenty here are sick of it. Grow up.

Lets all be sweet and nice, like a teenage girl’s Facebook page even when stupid comments deserved to be called out.
And by the way, what happened to your promise to ignore my comments?

    STFU Eyrie.

    Interesting.

43C outside today, I have the evaporative aircon going to five of the rooms in the “new” (c. 1920) house keeping the temp at a very pleasant 26C.

The two back rooms are not ducted yet the temperature in there is just 30C. I suspect that 12 foot ceilings, a huge gabled roof and 50 year old shade trees on that side are keeping the inside temps down.

Not going all hippy/gerbilist/artisan, however. The aircon is staying on until the temp reaches something cooler than egg frying range.

I don’t blame her for making a buck … it’s a free country (ho ho) and we all do what we need to do to keep afloat. 29. Fisky

Some very interesting articles on MMT have been put out in the last few days. People are warming to the idea. Soon it will be the consensus and there is nothing that neo-classical economists can do about it!

    https://ftalphaville.ft.com/2019/01/16/1547640616000/America-has-never-worried-about-financing-its-priorities/

Allow us to grossly simplify. Advocates for modern monetary theory argue that, for a sovereign country with its own currency, there is no inherently unacceptable level of government debt — that country does not automatically begin to collapse when debt reaches 90 per cent of GDP, or even 200 per cent of GDP. The country appropriates what it believes is necessary for domestic programs, regardless of revenue.

A traditionalist would see this as a prescription for inflation: increase the supply of money and, as with any commodity, you reduce its value. Modern monetary theorists argue that inflation happens only when the real economy — plants, machines, workers — can’t absorb what the government is spending. So: disconnect spending from taxation. Spend until the economy is at capacity, using all of its resources perfectly. Raise taxes only to cool down inflation, when the real economy exceeds that capacity.

Notice how Japan is not going to default because they issue their own currency and owe the debt to themselves.

We’re luck, at the Cat because Cronkite has all the answers. He’ll tell you. But you can’t ask him questions.

Happy to oblige wriggles. You mentioned or at least quoted some people who do know about these thing, natural variability which simply means non-human climate forcings and feedbacks. This is the nub of the whole issue: is what is happening with the climate entirely due to NV or is there a human component to it.

Now let’s start with a process called detrending whereby all natural variation forcings are removed and supposedly what will be left will be the rate of temperature increase due to human emissions of CO2. This was infamously done back in 2011 in the paper Global temperature evolution 1979–2010 by Grant Foster and Stefan Rahmstorf, F&R.

Have a quick squiz at the paper head prefect and will discuss your thoughts.

  53. Shy Ted

Mr Herrmann — whose mother died when he was young — had been living rough.
Young Codey is a product of a near-remote Aboriginal area, Coen in Cape York. Mother dying young is code for a background of substance abuse, unemployment and domestic violence in the family unit. Young Codey will have had poor school attendance, academic performance and significant behavioral problems. Likely he has foetal alcohol spectrum disorder contributing to low intelligence and behavioral problems. If he had stayed in his community he’d have been assaulting Aboriginal women, mostly in a substance-induced haze. Victoria is much more likely to have had a slight civilizing effect on him but the hard-wiring remains. Time in a correctional institution may have cleaned him up a bit and given him a few skills for employment rather than entrenched the criminality the left like to portray. But to a biologically impulsive and vulnerable person there are just too many temptations out there and they’re much easier than a life of toil and responsibility which he has never known. I would doubt murder was the intent, more likely sexual assault while substance-affected and it went wrong. You can’t view these occurrences which are a daily fact of life in Aboriginal communities through an IQ of 100+ and some degree of rational thought, they’re much more simple – a near-complete bypass of the frontal lobes and a good opportunity. Yes he knew it was wrong but the primal passion wins.

Mind if I join you, MV? A nice botanical G & T for me. Apart from feeding chooks (simply substitute a loudly complaining Attapuss) I have been there, done all that multitasking domestic labour today. Plus, I have ferried Hairy to the doc this morning (I insisted), then under doc’s instructions to Emergency at a major hospital after that (you may note that the Vaucluse peninsula does not include such in the local environs, so this is traffic driving), waited around there as they discuss admitting him, cheering him up about the size of the IV canula and drip he has had to have, and now bringing him home for daily home-based hospital IV treatment (they try not to admit in case of further infection) and now starting to cook him a nice meal while he insists he is not in hospital so can crack a beer open. I did nick off during the long waiting period while he stayed in a little room while blood tests were done; went to the David Jones sales in Bondi Junction and picked up a snazzy new coat, a t-shirt for me and one for him, and a chirpy new blouse. Saved a lot of money, so I told him as I carried my own parcels in home while he thankfully clutched his no-tnecessary o/nite bag. I have to drive him back to Emergency tomorrow morning for review. No waiting though this time; we’ll go straight through. 🙂

When I find myself getting frustrated, I take a break for a few weeks. It doesn’t change anything, and the same individuals are still there to frustrate me next time, but the break reminds me that it’s just a blog, and some of these characters are not actually people.
Some days it’s a bit of a freak show here, and you wonder how various characters have made it through life as far as they apparently have.
    Some are simply daleks.
If you observe carefully from a distance, one or two of those daleks are very predictable. Notice the patterns, and respond accordingly.

ALP’s tax reforms will sting its voters, according to Australian National University study

More than a quarter of all Australians who own an investment property voted for Labor at the 2016 election, according to the Australian National University’s Australian Election Study.

While half of all property investors voted for the Coalition at the last federal election, 26 per cent gave their vote to Labor, suggesting the opposition’s proposal to grandfather negative gearing risks putting these voters offside.

Of all the Australians who voted for Labor in the 2016 election, about 16 per cent owned an investment property. More than 13 per cent of Greens voters owned an investment property.

“People often don’t realise how widespread investment property and share ownership is in Australia,” said Ian McAllister, a professor at ANU and director of the Australian Election Study.

He said 16 per cent of Labor voters “equates to a lot of people”.

“One caveat to this is that Labor have proposed grandfathering their changes to negative gearing; I am sure this will reduce the impact on their vote,” he said, noting the Turnbull government’s 2016 superannuation tax changes were not grandfathered, leading to many Liberal voters turning to independents.

The figures come as an analysis of tax office data showed Labor’s plan to increase capital gains tax would affect more than 200,000 voters in Labor-held seats. The analysis also found the typical capital gain across the nation was less than $2100.

The analysis, provided by the Treasurer’s office, found Melbourne Ports, Griffith in Queensland, Sydney, Canberra and Fenner in the ACT were the top five Labor seats ranked by the number of taxpayers who had a capital gain in the 2016 fiscal year, the most recent year available.

    Cohenite,
    Re DTR,
Yes, I think that’s where we are.
    Plenty of confliction?

The new BoM ACORN temperature guide has been released:

    http://www.bom.gov.au/climate/change/acorn-sat/documents/BRR-032.pdf

    It states:

Version 2 shows stronger warming than both version 1 and AWAP, with mean temperature trends of 0.123 °C/decade for 1910-2016. Unlike version 1, it also shows stronger warming than AWAP in the more recent period, with a 1960-2016 trend of 0.200 °C/decade. Whilst minimum temperature warms more quickly than maximum temperature over the full 1910-2016 period, the reverse is true for the more recent 1960-2016 period.

So it’s getting hotter (after the statistical adjustments) but it’s not due to alarmism because the DTR is increasing.

Has “Whinging William” kicked rather a spectacular “own goal?”

This has been the Liberal strategy since they clipped that turd Turnbull off – hope Shorten screws up Labor’s chances.

There is a certain insight to this. By not announcing the policies the ‘wet’ dominated Liberals would endorse, they are not pissing off potential voters who might inadvertently hear them.

“It was argued that their wombs would be damaged and they could never bear children,” Murray writes.

“It’s worth remembering that women were forbidden to run in the Olympics in Ancient Greece and married women were banned even as spectators.”

Enter Cathy Freeman: the 2000 Sydney Olympics gold medal winner, whose 400 metres win resonated beyond just the spectators at the racing track.

I think they just might be stretching the bounds of credibility here. I’m pretty sure Cathy Freeman wasn’t the first woman to compete in an Olympics.

Dave in Marybrook – the Bird’s ability to derail a thread is simply astonishing. He types very quickly and is extraordinarily creative in his ability to generate debating points and argument. His obsessions are not the only reason he is banned but it is particularly nasty too. It is also the easiest way to keep him off the threads. I used to think that if there were a way to keep him constrained to a single thread then I would do so and have people engaging with him if they wanted. Then it occurred to me that there is such a technique – he could have his own blog and for many years he did. Jason, JohnZ and Fisky used to go around there and poke sticks at him. For all I know they still do.

So most of the banned word list is to contain Bird Strike. Other banned words pander to over-zealous government officials.

Hilarious that Margaret Thatcher and Elizabeth 1 aren’t even on the second list.

Who the heck knows about Sirimavo Bandaranake? Bhutto is in the list. But, Indira Gandhi is not.

  202. Memoryvault

    Evening Struth.
Have you ever thought of changing a word or two in a patriotic song about another country, to make it “Australian”? I’m thinking of this song.

How hard could it be, to make it about the SAS?
God knows they could use a bit of public support right now.

  203. jupes

Bird is an anti semetic hate filled piece of shit.
    Am I wrong?

    No.

Struth, don’t waste too much energy looking for something that is long dead. From SMH:

Controversial broadcaster Steve Price has removed a Hunters & Collectors song used to introduce his radio show on Sydney’s 2GB radio station at the request of the band following comments he made on Q&A.

Price made headlines after he called columnist Van Badham “hysterical” on the ABC panel show on Monday last week, while discussing violence against women in relation to the controversy surrounding Fairfax Media journalist Caroline Wilson.

Rock n roll ain’t what it used to be.

Thanks dave but UMI is OUT.
Heis the very epitome of bullshit artist for the lefty uni set.
The least talented front man there has ever been.
    Attitude is not music.
Don’t get me wrong I do a good Aus day gig but I’m in QLD so I’m able to steer clear of leftism……..and I feel people love it.
    It is Qld after all.

So most of the banned word list is to contain Bird Strike. Other banned words pander to over-zealous government officials.

We are fortunate to have a largely unmoderated blog which allows the spontaneity of instant posting.
An occasional bit of language gymnastics to find offending spaminator words and amend posts is a small price to pay.

Women deserve more prizemoney if they draw bigger crowds, says Nadal

“I feel that they can win as much as they want. Is not about equal or not equal prizemoney. I don’t care if they win more than us. That’s the real thing. If they sell more tickets, they deserve to more than us [male players]. That’s very easy to understand. It’s not about being male or women. Doesn’t matter. We are the same.”

  215. The A.D.

What is to be done for the younger generations? Where did it go wrong?
Previously, Western, Anglo men relished the syncopated beat of blues, rock and punk. Reminiscent of their birth right of power and madness, like grabbing a car on a dirt corner and sliding it sideways at full noise. Power, madness and control. Of steam pistons, blue flames and the howling vortex of exploding gases through a turbine.
Our music and culture was a never- ending, full- throttle wheelie.
Young boys dreamed of flying Spitfires and killing Germans.
Where did this new culture come from and why don’t youngsters want to rebel against the old women controlling their brains and denying their natural freedom?
Why do young Britishers want to be under the thumb of Europe?
Why do they listen to the dirge- like music served up to them?
Young people should, unless things have gone very, very badly wrong, be born rebels, with a throbbing, incessant beat in their brains and a healthy lack of impulse control.
Why aren’t they creating havoc and changing the world?

  216. jupes

Ill do holy grail and if people are pissed Ill do throw your arms.

    You’ll do Throw Your Arms.

    It’s fucking Australia Day.

Don’t get me wrong. I think Throw Your Arms is a shit song. If I never hear it again I would be a happy man.

It’s just that you said you would only sing it if people were pissed. Well der … it’s Australia Day.

    For Struth on Australia day:

  226. Memoryvault

Bruce of Newcastle, are you around?
Something rather strange is happening with our local birds.

  227. struth

Thing is jupes…….I still won’t sing it.
I’ll get some young bimbo that looks shit loads better than me to come up and sing it.

  228. mh

Seeing as our society is transitioning, She’s Got Balls could be appropriate.
