Travelling

I’m away until the end of the month.  You all know the drill – open forums will appear more or less at the usual times. People who get caught up in the auto-moderator or spam filters will take much longer to appear. So be sure to mistype your screen names and/or email addresses and get stuck. Feel free to post excessively long cut and pastes from the newspapers and get stuck too. Then … re-post the same thing 10 times and activate the spam filter while you’re at it.

Sinc, before you go can you please open a safe thread reserved for the desperate, dateless and decrepit? Thanks.

  2. Sinclair Davidson

I thought all the open threads performed that function. 😎

  3. Some History

Sinc, if you’re going to San Franshitsco, be sure to wear some protective plastic on your shoes.

  4. Nick

    Sarcasm! Oh, oh, I’m triggered.

    Take care Sinc – don’t let the bed-bugs bite…….

Ahhh – My travel memories :
SF arrival by Greyhound circa 1976 – followed the guide to Berkeley via the BART which was amazing to me back then, walked all over downtown, still own the books I bought up in Market Street which was very hippy and only trending gay at the time, later in 1982, got free apartment for a long weekend, hired a car and explored John Muir and Point Reyes, thrilled at the time to drive over the Golden Gate Bridge.
It was a beautiful, beautiful place back then. Hope it still is. The drive south is divine. To live in that space and need psychedelic drugs to endure the burden of living there is beyond my understanding.

Wet, foggy and chilly round the testimonials.

    Have fun.

    And don’t mention the war.

    Safe travels, Sinc.

Just a short drive north from San Fran to Napa and some excellent wine tasting. Enjoy at least a day or two there.

    Cheers.

I was there in 1993 and ’96. Had an American friend who lived in Haight St, who disappeared around the time of 9/11/01. The “space” is freezing in Summer. It’s also responsible for two of the most virulent outbreaks of global collectivist idiocy – hippies and homosexuals.

To hear about the city’s current travails is to think “it had it coming”.

You’re going to meet some gentle people there. And some who are batshit crazy. And if you see people with flowers in their hair, they’re probably growing.

    Happy Trails Sinc.
    Watch the pavement.

Hz housewife, I was there a couple of years later, in 1978.
Used it as a base for explorations north and inland to the Rockies.
I’d say the gay had pretty much replaced the hip in Haight and the downtown bums had become a growing fixture. They weren’t yet known as “homeless” a misleading descriptor that has led to many serious policy errors.

Um, I’ve been to the airport there. I always remember the experience because I walked onto the UA 747 back to Sydney without showing anyone my ticket or passport — it was open slather (a bit like driving in America without the NannyPig State surveillance we have here).
    Enjoy, Doomlord.

San Fran? Been there, done that. A coupla times.
I expect it is even worse now.
Yes, the Big Sur drive is great. Recommended.
I also enjoyed a walking tour of the Painted Ladies (calm down, Nick and Snoopy, they’re houses).
The sidewalks may not be so nice to tour on these days.

Oh, and I forgot to say, have a great time, Sinc.

Do you know guys, reading Sinc’s instructions above, do ya sometimes get the feeling that Sinc doesn’t tolerate us gladly, as the saying goes?

Aww, don’t worry Sinc. We’ll do our best. 🙂

  19. Malcolm

I think Sinclair is intending to be a resident taxpayer of the Cayman Islands

    Offsetting your carbon footprint?

  21. Elle

    Hehe. Love your post, Sinc.
Hope you’re flying business class. The only way to travel. Your holiday starts at the airport not at your destination. Be pampered, but don’t be a princess … like moi! 🙂

Seems that Lord Deben, UK Climate Change Commissioner is being investigated for not declaring over 600,000 pounds of payments made to his private company by ‘green’ businesses that stand to profit from his advice to Ministers. Five M.P.s lodged complaints to the Standards Commissioner following an article in the Mail on Sunday.
