White-hot anger: eviction sparks discrimination cry

The white residents of an opal-mining town in South Australia’s remote Aboriginal lands will cite racial discrimination in their legal battle against the state government after it terminated the township’s residential lease, ahead of its move to expel locals as early as today.

Emotions were high at a town hall meeting held in Mintabie’s local pub yesterday when Todd Grant — the lawyer acting for the Mintabie Miners’ Progress Association — unveiled the nature of his legal case to fight the town’s impending closure.

“I would hope it doesn’t come to this but sometimes you have to kick the schoolyard bully where it hurts, so to speak,” Mr Grant said, referring to the South Australian government. “I think it’s overwhelmingly likely we’ll be filing documents in the Federal Court in the next two weeks.”

The legal development comes a year after the state government released a scathing independent review of the outback town’s operation and recommended its closure.

In July the town’s management will revert to the local APY board, which has been leasing Mintabie to the state government since the early 1980s.

The predominantly white settlement, 980km northwest of Adelaide, is home to up to 60 full-time residents and has been operating as a predominantly white settlement since 1976.

While Mintabie residents have long been accused of supplying drugs and alcohol to the Aboriginal people, the townspeople vehemently deny the claims, telling The Australian they feel unfairly demonised.

They are also furious they will lose their homes, many of which may look like a collection of sheds and tin shacks from the outside, but have been renovated to include new kitchens and features.

Regarding the impending closure of this blog by the Stasi, Sinclair has all our email addresses and I reckon he’d be a nice enough bloke to get a few in touch with each other.
If it goes down before we are prepared we should email Sinclair stating who we would like to have our email address and request the addresses of those that have authorised you to obtain them in the same way.
Less Hassle for Sinclair if we already start networking.

Under Peanut Head, the strategy over the past five years has been to make the Liars indistinguishable from the Greenfilth to placate the loony Labor left (half of which now votes Green).

Get ready for the Lying Slapper’s media censorship regime to get another run, including licensing of blogs like the Cat, with a government censor given the power to shut down any outlet she doesn’t like. It will be the Australian Human Rights Commission on steroids.

The speed at which that occurs will depend on how many Greenfilth votes the Liars will be depending on to govern.

If Mr and Mrs Snowcone were ordinary ABC grunts, then Mr Snowcone would be expected to take leave without pay in order to accompany his Missus overseas, after using up any outstanding paid annual leave (S. 45.1.2 of the current ABC EA). This is pretty much standard Commonwealth public sector practice.

For important people, on the other hand, it is common (if not perhaps written down) practice for the spouse to be fixed up with a job at a post commensurate with his/ her home status and salary. This needn’t be a Commonwealth job, but Snowcone could be easily slotted into a position with some or other international agency in Beijing.

Plan B is to to try and Hungarian citizenship through grandad, who was actually born inside the borders of current Hungary. Process is slower & little more convoluted, and therefore expensive, but by using Opa instead of dad we avoid the need to learn Hungarian.

Morrison characterises the medical transfer from offshore detention as a ‘national security risk‘ rather than an economic and philosophical issue. Labor happily jumps at the opening:

Opposition frontbencher Anthony Albanese is confident the legislation will still allow immigration ministers to exercise discretion over medical transfers on national security grounds.

So, the gates are to be thrown wide open to the vast majority of self-selecting country shoppers who are not positively identified as “national security risks“.

    1. Chrissy Pine crying his eyes out over Malcolm

Christopher Pyne, the Coalition leadership group’s sole survivor
The only remaining member of the Coalition’s leadership group of a decade ago, the Defence Minister holds deep fears for the future of Australian politics.

“Malcolm is Arselan* to me,” Pyne said at the time, referring to the Christ-like lion king from C.S. Lewis’s Narnia novels.

He cried all the way home to Adelaide the night after Arselan* was slain.

The proud moderate Liberal adored and revered Turnbull. This week he offered the following appraisal of the former leader: “I think Malcolm is the kind of person that should have been prime minister of Australia: urbane, highly intellectual, successful, broad, visionary, clever, articulate, funny, charming, everything that a modern leader and a modern prime minister should be.

“And I found it very disappointing that too many of my colleagues didn’t see in Malcolm what I saw and still see in Malcolm.”

Shame that the record shows objectively that Turnbull was a deeply unsuccessful leader, untrustworthy, divisive, quite unable to articulate whatever vision he might have had, given to impenetrable waffling and trite sloganeering – and ultimately a destructive, bitter arsehole.

I think you’ve nailed Turnbull….I would add that Turnbull’s only vision was to become PM and hobnob with leaders such as Merkel, May and Macron. He was NEVER concerned with piffling details such as “policy” or trying to woo and schmooze the voters in middle Australia. He just couldn’t get his head around the fact that in order to hobnob with May, Merkel and Macron, he first had to hobnob with men and women in marginal electorates……but that was always beneath him. It appears that Trump is bagging Pocahontas for three specific reasons:

    1) He is a misogynist;

In 1993, Mr Trump filed a challenge to a federal law that allowed Native American tribes to run gambling establishments on their reservations, or to obtain the rights to property in order to develop casinos, in order to protect his New Jersey casinos.

    3) “In March, 2016, she posted a scathing Facebook post that began, “Let’s be honest — Donald Trump is a loser”.”

My ex had the best way to beat speeding fines. She was driving and we were pulled over, I’d start screaming and ranting and abusing her for being an idiot and costing us money. The cop put away the book and asked if she wanted me out of the car and would she be safe to continue?

She also avoided other tickets by bursting into tears and saying “My husband is a brute and will kill me”

Sadly, because of institutionalised sexism, I don’t think it works if an XYer is behind the wheel.

Funny how Rachel Dolezal was pilloried by the MSM for claiming to be black whereas Fakehontas, who has had far more benefit from her “Native American’ claim, gets a pass.

Ms Dolezal has a fair chance of being more Amerindian than Ms Warren.

Does Elizabeth Warren Has Statistically Less Native American Blood Than Average White American?

Warren’s DNA results are significant because of her extensive history of claiming Indian and Cherokee heritage in her political and professional career. Warren released the results of her test, which showed her to potentially have 1/1024 Native American heritage dating back six to 10 generations. This sets the lowest bound of Warren’s Indian heritage at .098 percent and the highest at 3 percent.

The average European-American has 0.18 percent Native American heritage, according to a comprehensive study by the Genetic Literacy Project.

I wonder if Donald Trump is the first native American President of the USA?
After all he’s at least as orange as Ms Dolezal.

More than 1 million undocumented immigrants have received driver’s licenses, the California Department of Motor Vehicles announced Wednesday.

Assembly Bill 60, authored by then-Assemblyman Luis Alejo in 2013, required California DMV offices to issue driver’s licenses to undocumented immigrants as long as they can prove their identity and residence within the state. The law has led to 1,001,000 undocumented immigrants receiving licenses as of March 31 but doesn’t give the licensees carte blanche to drive outside of California or fly across state or federal borders.

What Sacbee forgets to mention is all million of them are also automatically registered to vote too.

No wonder that the Dems in CA are so incensed with the plan to ask about citizenship in the upcoming census. Which make this story today quite interesting.

Terri Butler warns of consequences with party members if Labor walks away from medivac bill

Labor frontbencher Terri Butler has warned the party would face the wrath from branch members if it walked away from the Kerryn Phelps-inspired bill that would put medical transfers of asylum seekers on Manus Island and Nauru into the hands of doctors.

Ms Butler, an MP from the Queensland Left, has fired a warning shot to her colleagues who want Labor’s support for the bill junked altogether, saying it was “important” it passed through the parliament.

Ms Butler told The Australian she would support amendments to give greater ministerial oversight over transfers as long as it secured the bill’s passage through the parliament.

“I think we should negotiate whatever outcome is needed for the bill to be passed,” Ms Butler said.

She said Labor members expected the party to support the bill that will come before the House of Representatives this week.

Labor frontbencher Chris Bowen says Bill Shorten is ready to have “further discussions” on the medical transfer of refugees after his briefing by top security officials today.

Labor’s parliamentary caucus will meet later today to decide their next steps over the controversial Phelps amendments, with some opposition MPs wanting Mr Shorten to abandon the medivac plan altogether.

Mr Bowen said the Opposition Leader will take his briefing by the Department of Home Affairs into account. The briefing comes after leaked ASIO advice last week stated the medivac bill would ultimately dismantle offshore processing.

“If there’s further discussions to be had with crossbench colleagues and others across the parliament in terms of ensuring those two objectives are met, then he’ll have those,” Mr Bowen said in Canberra.

“The Leader of the Opposition is having a briefing, he’ll take into account that briefing.

“We want to see people who are unwell receive best care, including in Australia and we want to see ministerial discretion, which is a fundamental principle, applied.”

From the Oz. Any competent Government would be treating this as the most monumental free kick they’ve ever had. Does “people who are unwell” include those who are diagnosed as severely constipated?

Hungary to give lifetime tax exemption to women who have four children.”

Orban is trying to encourage Hungarian women to have more children….if you want to know why Europe is in the state it is in….it is because of the almost zero birthrate and the collapse of religion and the reason that there is almost zero birthrate is probably because of the collapse of religion in Europe. Europe is collapsing because of this. So good on Orban.

Hungary to give lifetime tax exemption to women who have four children.

Western liberals bemoan the drought of babies whilst legalizing abortion up until the kid draws first breath. Yet they never ever consider incentives for increasing birth rates.

Remember Costello’s ‘one for mum, one for dad and one for the country’? The baby bonus caused a minor baby boom in Australia.

Peter Costello’s baby bonus sparks Australian baby boom (2009)

Maybe this could be tried instead of vast increases in illegal and legal immigration. The savings on welfare would easily pay for any birth subsidies.

    Be afraid, very afraid.

Whats the bet the “solution” is government funding for everybody (except conservatives)?

The production of news and journalism cannot be left entirely to market forces, and regulation is needed to curb the power of Facebook and Google, the competition regulator says.

The ACCC chairman, Rod Sims, said the digital platforms inquiry, which delivered its preliminary report in December, reveals that the market power enjoyed by the digital behemoths is weakening Australian media.

More than a quarter of traditional newspaper journalism jobs have disappeared, print advertising revenue has dried up, and for every $100 spent on online advertising, $47 goes to Google and $21 goes to Facebook.

    ….
The preliminary report recommended a powerful new authority to oversee the commercial activities of Google and Facebook.

The new regulator would have the authority to inquire into all aspects of the digital platforms’ business and subsidiaries and would have jurisdiction over any platform that earns $100m in revenue in Australia.

“Virtually no media regulation applies to digital platforms and this contributes to regulatory disparity between media sectors that would appear to provide the digital platforms with an unfair advantage in attracting advertising expenditure because they operate under fewer regulatory constraints and have lower regulatory compliance costs,” Sims said.

The competition regulator is also reviewing the Coalition’s regional and small publishers “jobs and innovation package” which was part of the media reforms passed last year, tax offsets for the production of certain types of news and journalism and making personal subscriptions to news media tax deductible.

More than a quarter of traditional newspaper journalism jobs have disappeared, print advertising revenue has dried up, and for every $100 spent on online advertising, $47 goes to Google and $21 goes to Facebook.

We should also have a regulator that ensures horse and buggy can compete on a level playing field with cars.

The biggest difference is that google and facebook can more or less be consumed by the public for free

I don’t know now long that will last but seeing as all print producers are also online claiming it is an issue of excessive regulation of the trads seems a little implausible.

Stupid Mexicans, cant they see the boost in GDP the migrants are bringing with them?

Mexico border towns overwhelmed as Trump policy leaves migrants in limbo
Caravans receive rough welcomes at towns like Piedras Negras where locals are suspicious and officials struggle to house 1,700 newcomers

The policy, known as “metering”, means that impoverished travellers are being forced to wait for weeks or even months – often in border towns plagued with violence and criminal activity. In small towns like Piedras Negras, local authorities and migrant shelters run by churches and NGOs are often unready to deal with the sudden surge.

“Metering puts a lot of stress on the local civil society and municipal governments,” said Stephanie Leutert, the director of the Mexico Security Initiative at the Strauss center at the University of Texas. “The backlog is also creating another floating population that could be preyed upon by criminal groups.”

    Believe all women….?
‘Spare innocent men anguish’: India ruling aims to end false r a p e claims
Judges have moved to ensure that women driven by revenge and self-interest will no longer be able to make spurious allegations when relationships end

According to the National Crime Records Bureau, a total of 38,947 r a p e cases were reported in India in 2016. In 10,068 cases – about a quarter – the women claimed it was r a p e on false promise of marriage. In Andhra Pradesh state, 45% of all r a p e cases filed in the past two years fell into the false marriage category.

“When a relationship ends, women who have had consensual sex make false accusations of r a p e under promise of marriage out of vengefulness, to hurt the man. Or they do it to extort money out of him, promising to withdraw the charge if he gives them what they want,” says lawyer Vinay Sharma.

Fortunately a feminist lawyer type manages to queef out the fact-nugget that ensures women are still the victim in this scenario…

Ultimately, though, she believes the legal system must find another way to give women justice if they have suffered harm at the hands of a man. “The system needs to offer some form of relief – either damages or in some other way – because desperate women are resorting to the r a p e charge, which is wrong, but that’s because they have no other remedy. The law needs to develop a different perspective,” says Grover.

In the meantime, she worries that false charges of r a p e over consensual sexual relationships serve only to dilute genuine cases and distort the debate about r a p e in India. On this, Deveshwar concurs: “The tragedy is that with so many false cases, genuine victims of r a p e may find it harder to get justice.”

The paediatric representative from Australia’s peak medical body has suggested asylum seekers on Manus Island and Nauru are in a worse situation than Joos in Auschwitz because people who knew they were going to be gassed by the Nazis “found some sense of relief in knowing what was happening”.

Paul Bauert of the Australian Medical Association was among dozens of doctors who came to Parliament House in Canberra today to push Bill Shorten and his Labor team to stand firm in support of the Kerryn Phelps-inspired bill.

Mr Bauert said the mental health of detainees in Manus and Nauru had deteriorated because there was no certainty about their future.

“The main reason for the impairment of mental health — as Viktor Frankl the psychiatrist from Auschwitz described very well in his book Man’s Search for Meaning — the main problem that these people have is a lack of meaning, a lack of any end to what is going on, a lack of certainty,” Dr Bauert told Sky News.

    Labor agrees on medivac amendments

    Simon Benson
    National Affairs Editor

Labor’s shadow cabinet has settled on three key border protection amendments which will be put to caucus for sign-off tonight as conditions for supporting refugee medical transfer powers.

The Australian understands following security briefings this morning from Home Affairs and Australian Border Force, Bill Shorten has settled on three principles that would toughen up the Kerryn Phelps inspired medivac bill.

These include broadening the definition of national security which presently relates to security of the homeland including espionage, sabotage and attacks on defence assets, to cover serious crimes.

This would give the minister greater discretion to reject proposed medivacs on character grounds.

Under the proposal which will be put to Labor MPs tonight, the new laws would be applied to those currently on Manus and Nauru, and not apply to new arrivals.

Labor sources said this was a non-negotiable position which would be a key factor in addressing concerns that the medivac bill would restart the people smuggling industry.

Labor would also either abolish or extend the 24-hour time period for ministerial consideration of candidates for medical evacuation.

The Australian understands negotiations with crossbenchers has already begun.

  199. Dr Faustus

National security fears prompt Labor to revise proposed asylum seeker medical evacuation laws

The ABC understands that in an hour-long session, the high-ranking officials [ASIO and Home Affairs] secretary] told Mr Shorten, his deputy Tanya Plibersek and shadow immigration spokesman Shayne Neumann to avoid supporting measures that would serve as a “pull factor” for people smugglers.

They knew that. However Labor’s “national security fears” are fears about being politically embarrassed when the boats start up after being warned about the certainty of it, rather than any fears about the national interest.

It is understood Labor will consider broadening the definition of “security” in the bill to give the minister a broader discretion to deny transfer of asylum seekers, perhaps by extending it to people who have committed serious crimes or by inclusion of a “character test”.

So, presumably Duncan Lewis didn’t expressly advise the Shorten Gang that most current and future candidates for importation will not be a security risk, nor have committed ‘serious crimes’ – nor have a bad character.

The Opposition will also consider restricting the medical evacuation bill to the existing cohort of asylum seekers on Nauru and Manus to eliminate any chance the bill will serve as a “pull factor” for new boats.

    Sure buddy…

    Here, some more facts for you to chew on by some real financial professionals;

Reserve Bank of Australia chief Philip Lowe last year said population growth was flattering economic data. Indeed, digging beneath the past quarter century’s unbroken gross domestic product record reveals a somewhat bleaker picture: on a GDP per person basis, the growth in economic output was zero at the end of last year and the weakest since the third quarter of 2016.

An accelerating population makes it less likely the nation will slip into a recession — technically defined as two straight quarters of economic contraction — said Gareth Aird, chief economist at Commonwealth Bank of Australia. “So if you’ve got strong population growth — whether or not it’s driven by immigration — then it’s harder to go backwards in an output sense. But if you look at the economy on a per capita basis, we’ve had a couple of recessions over that period.

A second woman has now accused Virginia Lt. Governor Justin Fairfax of rape, this time at Duke University in 2000. Another woman has accused Mr. Fairfax of raping her at the Democratic National Convention in 2004. Mr. Fairfax denies both allegations and is demanding an FBI investigation, but many Democrats are also calling on him to resign.

Meanwhile, Attorney General Mark Herring, next in line for Governor if both Messrs. Northam and Fairfax resign, also appeared in blackface in the 1980s. Democrats are more forgiving of Mr. Herring, perhaps because next in line for Governor would be the Republican Speaker of the House of Delegates.

She survived because she was 16 and was put to work in a factory in the death camp. There was NO relief..,people were bewildered, confused, hysterical and utterly fearful when they arrived at the death camp…she can still see her mother and sister being taken away, she can still hear the screaming of being parted from her mother and sister and she can still smell the stench of burning flesh.

Lizzie, darling, it’s Lizzie. No, I absolutely agree with you, that’s all. We should all be cheerful. The Good Lord knows there is enough political and existential misery already in this current vale of tears.
Badly-fitting shoes. Now there’s a topic. They’ve been around since the Ugly Sisters banned Cinderella from that [email protected] Personally, I don’t try to fit my feet or any other part of me into something ill-fitting. 🙂

Mr Photios’s former business partner and Liberal powerbroker Nick Campbell also confirmed yesterday that his firm, Nexus, had this year donated to Labor and had joined the Federal Labor Business Forum.

And that is why my local Lib MP will not get my vote. She is not bad but if the major parties are now The Uniparty I am voting minor parties.

Makka, you dumb lathe apprentice. Last evening you were arguing that Australia hasn’t suffered a recession in 30 years because of the “population ponzi” scheme.

Today, you highlight this comment by the RBA Gov

But if you look at the economy on a per capita basis, we’ve had a couple of recessions over that period.”

…that offers further evidence your claim was total nonsense and I was right to take an open hand swing at the side of your fat head. You post evidence that categorically disproves your claims and you aren’t even aware of it, you big, useless buffoon.

Areff, your ex sounds like a fiery gal. Like her ingenuity.

    Likely to be true

So, my assertions in fact are correct and the facts I’ve posted support it. High immigration numbers have been and are still a/the major factor in Australia avoiding technical recession. At least the senior 2 financial boffins above, with their models, agree. What you blather on about is irrelevant. Worthless essentially.

You know I only take up these stoushes as a community service to readers so they don’t fall for your bullshit.

How can Rudd get away with saying something like this? Everybody knows Rudd/Conroy put NBNCo off -budget because it was to be run like a business and make a profit. He also states it would have been finished by 2018 if Coalition did not change to FTTN

    https://www.afr.com/opinion/letters-to-the-editor/letters-kevin-rudd-on-nbn-nab-crisis-and-franking-credit-debate-20190207-h1az7m

It was never envisaged that the NBN generate a commercial rate of return. That has never been the case with fundamental economic infrastructure. If it were, the railway and road networks would never have been built. Such ideological claptrap fails to understand the fundamental economic drivers that basic infrastructure provides for the rest of the economy.
The bottom line is our proposal for an FTTP NBN would have been completed by 2018 had not the Abbott-Turnbull-Morrison government agreed, consistent with Rupert Murdoch’s position, to kill the network and instead substitute an inferior FTTN.

The sugar is back on the table?

  223. Elle

Lizzie! Badly fitting shoes? Oy! I will suffer later on in life. Dam those high heels. Love, love, love though. After a night out, the heels come off first then the bra. My order 😉

  224. JC

So, my assertions in fact are correct and the facts I’ve posted support it.

Absolutely not, you ridiculous moron. Last evening you argued the “population ponzi scheme” was what had averted an Australian recession in the past 30 years.

I suggested that claim was untrue and I also demanded to see the modeling offering evidence to your claim. The RBA’s gov’s highlighted comment disproves your assertion and yet you’re now taking that up as a cudgel. You really are an idiot. A first rate dumbo.

You know I only take up these stoushes as a community service to readers so they don’t fall for your bullshit.

Okay, have you finished digging that hole?

    Speaking of fake news.

In 1976, three decades of the postwar settlement had seen the UK reach “peak equality”, according to a 2013 economic study, when the country was better off than it had ever been before or since.

Heres what this severely educated idiot considers “peak Equality”.

    1976 IMF Crisis

The 1976 IMF Crisis was a financial crisis in the United Kingdom in 1976 which forced James Callaghan’s Labour Party government to borrow $3.9 billion ($17.2 billion in 2018)[1] from the International Monetary Fund (IMF),[2] the largest loan ever to have been requested from the IMF.[3]

Oh..and please tell me how that is similar to what is happening on Manus and Nauru?

Cassie, the Daily Telegraph is running with that story, and allowing comments. Want to try their site?

Numpty, I know these facts I’ve posted annoy you. Your mission here is to convince everyone that for Australia, high immigration, low wages, open borders and bespoke barista employment is the utopian future for us all. Though it really does get up your nose when your scam is exposed. I get it. So calm down, go back to regailing us about your NY apartment reno.

Open handed swing? Lol. A shortarse like you couldn’t reach it.
