Dr Paul Bauert from Flinders University in Darwin, a paediatrician, has said that the conditions and treatment of people in refugee camps in Nauru is worse than the treatment of the Jews at Auschwitz.
That someone could make such a claim shows just how far the political left has descended to the gutter.
The inhumane treatment of Jews at Auschwitz is beyond compare, with mass starvation, torture, beatings, forced labour and genocide on a scale unprecedented. The six part BBC documentary Auschwitz: the Nazis and the Final Solution documents the horrors of that camp.
Refugees at Nauru are free to move about (and depart if they choose), receive ample food, quality accommodation, do not have to work and are not tortured. No one envies their situation, but they are not mistreated and they have a better situation than those in UN run refugee camps.
To make the comparison that Bauert has is not only ridiculous but it is immoral as it is a form of Holocaust denial. I’m surprised he hasn’t been dismissed from his position because others have said things far less extreme have been hounded from office. This is an intolerable form of moral equivalence and shows that this man has lost his moral compass.
What happened at Auschwitz and Treblinka was an enormity in the proper sense of that word: a monstrous evil – systematic and deliberate murder on an industrial scale. Shame on you Bauert, shame. Your views are unspeakable.
