I don’t have a reference, but, yes, it would be interesting to see how many slaves have been sold in Africa ever since the Southern Confederacy went into involuntary liquidation.

Jordan Peterson has described the ABC as “tricky” for putting him on a Q&A panel with transgender woman Cate McGregor, but says he’s still looking forward to tonight’s show.

“It’s so predictable,” Peterson told The Australian. “It was a set-up, an attempted set-up. It’s another reason why mainstream media is failing, and why people are turning to YouTube and other channels.”

Peterson shot to fame a little over two years ago when he said he would refuse a Canadian government edict to use gender neutral pronouns such as “zie” and “zhe.”

“That is not how free speech works,” he said.

But Peterson said he had no problem with calling McGregor by her chosen first name, Cate, and he’ll happily refer to her as “she.”

Asked whether Cate was, in his view, a woman, he said: “A question like probably that has to be broken down in a variety of ways. It’s context dependent.

“I don’t believe that transgender women should be competing against women in (elite) sports, for example. I don’t think there is any excuse for that.

“I can’t even understand why somebody who had undergone gender reassignment surgery would pursue an athletic career of that sort, given the degree of unfairness intrinsic in the competition.

“So for that purpose, certainly not.

“For the purposes of casual public discourse, and politeness, it depends on the person. Generally my attitude has been, I treat people as they present themselves but when push comes to shove, there are lines that have be drawn.

“There is a mixed martial artist who has transitioned from a man to a woman and he is hammering women like mad. Why that is reasonable is absolutely beyond me. I think it’s pure narcissism.”

  7. Top Ender

    The rest of the article…

He would address McGregor “however she would like to be addressed. I’m not a great fan of gender neutral pronouns, mostly because their use was mandated by the government, and that was enough for me to refuse to use them, because I’m not going to have my speech mandated by the government, because that’s not how speech works in a Western democracy.

“But if the dialogue is reasonable, I’ll do whatever seems to be socially appropriate because I can’t see any harm in it.’’

McGregor — a graduate of the Royal Military College Duntroon, who served Australia in the armed forces for three decades – told The Australian that the ABC probably expected fireworks when it put the two of them on the panel together.

“It’s typical and it’s a bit cute,” she said, but she, too, is looking forward to the conversation, “which will hopefully be more than boring identity politics.”

“I hope most people would accord me the status of being one of the more interesting commentators on a range of issues.

“I hope the ABC doesn’t do an eminent guest, and a potentially large audience, a disservice by picking only prosaic, mundane culture war topics.

“I get called ‘he’ and ‘him’ every day, and it hurts, and do I think people should do it? No. Do I think they should be jailed? No.

“Using inappropriate pronouns deliberately is reprehensible. But I soak the insults up with as much dignity as I can muster. I’ve displayed much less fragility on this issue than the army of free speech zealots.

“They pile vituperation on me, and I keep my dignity. It is repugnant, and it happens every day online. But the way to deal with it is not to jail people, it’s to pull our shoulders back, and keep your head high, and rely on the generosity of our fellow citizens.

“I have mostly been treated with respect with regards my transition. I’m not unsympathetic to his (Peterson’s) line on free speech. In all, I’m looking forward to it, and I don’t come to it with any baggage about his writing at all. Much of it replicates my own attempts to find meaning especially in suffering.”

Cate tries to maintain her dignity?

That’s why, after getting one of her mad, unsolicited vituperative notes, I wrote her back with the news that my niece is now my nephew and I have no problem with however she wants to disport herself. But I did suggest that her mouthing off and publicity-whoring does her cause no good.

Since then, out of the blue and for no reason, she has publicly slagged me as a monster, a fascist and a transphobe, which would come as news to my ex-niece.

The measure of the woman isn’t that she now sits down to pee. it’s the way she betrayed Tony Abbott, who stood by her. Then she moved her pointless column to fairfax, figured she had better get in good with the mean girls at fairfax and repudiated their friendship in a column that should have made Tony question that misplaced Christian fantasy that there is good in all of us.

If you happen to bump into her, call her “sweetheart”. The reaction is galvanic.

I only know of social entertainment matters peripherally, however l was drawn to film person Spike Lee’s reported comments at the Hollywood Jerk Circle Extravaganza that is apparently on again.
If what he is reported to have said is true, then he spent time talking about the bubble he lives in, where black people win an award every ten years and black people have no say in what proceeds to production etc.
If the quote is correct, he stated that blacks have no say in the industry.
If it weren’t for his apparent ability to live a flamboyant lifestyle, it would be easy to assume he is exploited.
This situation does not occur in the real world in such absolute terms, although it does occur. It would have been a difficult task to get a gig working for Death Row Records or a position of influence with Snoop Dog’s posse if you were an outsider.
This is not to try to polarise the debate in terms of black or white. The same situation applies in tribal groupings (such as Corporations) and on the International stage.
Bemoaning your situation of the career choice you make (as I have offered to such people in my own field, find something different) is one thing.
To be so myopic and self centred that you believe it gives you licence to externalise this into the broader debate of civil liberties is a reflection of the character of the bloke.
That any forum would uncritically host such a lecture against itself without rebuttal tells a lot about that forum.
In the real world, nobody gives a fuck if they are succeeding in their own life, unless they have a mission to share their own joy of success.
I hope that the audience that suck up this shit year after year is progressively diminishing.

It will take control of Falls Creek Alpine Resort and Hotham Alpine Resort from Living and Leisure Australia Group (LLA), which is a subsidiary of Merlin Entertainments.

Falls Creek is Victoria’s largest ski resort and is noted as highly suitable for families and first-timers.

Hotham is the only ski resort in the Southern Hemisphere where the village is sited on the mountain top offering ski-in, ski-out opportunities.

“We are thrilled to welcome the guests and employees of both Falls Creek and Hotham into the Vail Resorts family and further strengthen our position in Australia, which is one of our most important international markets,” said Rob Katz, CEO of Vail Resorts.

The deal includes all ski school, rental, reservation and property management operations at both resorts.

Vail also owns Perisher ski resort which it acquired in 2015.

The transaction is expected to close ahead of the opening of the Australian snow season in June.

Is Shorten unbeatable – as nation’s most disliked leader?Peter van OnselenFollow @vanOnselenP

    25 minutes ago February 25, 2019
    No Comments

Tomorrow marks the 1000th day in a row that 50 per cent or more of the population has been dissatisfied with Bill Shorten’s performance. That is 241 days longer than Tony Abbott’s worst stretch as opposition leader.

Today’s Newspoll also chalked up a four-year run of negative net satisfaction ratings for Shorten, a period that covered 81 consecutive polls over nearly 1500 days. Abbott’s longest stretch was just over 1000 days across 65 consecutive polls.

It seems that we can now conclude that Shorten is the least popular opposition leader in Australian political history, more so even than the deeply unpopular Abbott. Yet for Shorten to fall short of becoming our next PM he would need to lose a seemingly unlosable election.

At one level the unpopular run is a testament to Shorten’s resilience — having lasted as long as he has as Opposition Leader. And to be completely fair to him, Shorten has seen off two prime ministers during that time and looks set to dispatch a third when Scott Morrison faces the voters in May.

The latest Newspoll also has the Labor Party in front of the Coalition 53-47 per cent on the two-party vote, the same advantage it enjoyed two weeks ago.

But the run of poor personal polls does also highlight a problem for Labor: its leader clearly isn’t popular, and represents a drag on the Labor vote.

Even if this doesn’t hurt Labor at the next election — with voters having already having made up their collective minds that the Coalition government must be punished — it could limit the size of the victory, or reduce the honeymoon it enjoys once in control of the Treasury benches.

From the Oz. Words fail me, they honestly do.

Well ladies and gentlemen of this fine blog, I am off, in the words of Al Bundy, to dive off Sears Tower head first onto a thumbtack. Watched The Drum for the first time ever. Paul Burke is apparently an economist, said so many times during the segment on ScoMo’s announcement of 2 billion on da climate change. Not once was said economist asked how much renewable energy would cost, except to say it was ‘fun and exciting.’ Hannah McGlade should be charged for whiteface if she identifies as Aboriginal. Make up was trowelled on. And Arky, get in here and describe how you would fix the production of this putrid show. Lighting was a disaster and ex Chaser boy host looked like he woke up from a 3 week bender. FMD.

A young mother is one of a group of friends accused of punching a policeman from behind in a sickening attack that was caught on video.

Childcare worker Kayla Potts, 25, and her fiance Jack Houldcroft, both from Melbourne’s south, were charged over the horrific attack on two officers in St Kilda on Sunday morning.

Footage allegedly showing the couple’s friend Phillip O’Donnell slamming Senior Constable Darren Shepherd’s head into the pavement went viral on Monday.

Senior police described the shocking video as ‘animalistic’ and the state premier slammed the footage as ‘disgusting’.

The Melbourne Magistrates Court today heard that Potts, her brother Trent Potts, Houldcroft and O’Donnell had been attending a 30th birthday party in St Kilda when they got into an argument upon leaving the venue.

A transgender woman intervened in the dispute but Trent Potts allegedly kicked her in the testicles. After she was attacked, police were called, and arrived on the scene just as the group were about to board a taxi.

There is a helluva lot going on here.

I also used the word metaphorically.

You should also be allowed to the Laundry and the shops.
You need a job, become a Nurse or a secretary.

Too many women in the work force have halved the relative take home pay of men and caused misery for men and women alike.
Not to mention the Public Service is mostly filled with women doing made up jobs that men in the private sector have to pay for, eroding the take home pay of men even more, making their wives need to look for work, when , like you, you’d rather stay home and do what comes naturally.
    Nest build.

But my point being is this.
Gay Marriage , LGBTIALPHABET crap and raging narcissism and quotas and bad white men, blah blah blah, all this insane noise.
How much of it would be happening if we even just banned women from parliament?
Let alone all the other positions to make dumb noise they infiltrate and subvert.

We never, at any time in History while men were the dominant sex, had this level of insanity prevalent, so unfortunately we must come to the conclusion the experiment has failed.

The US has a similar arrangement in sponsoring veterans to college. It’s a great way for African Americans to get a college education which they otherwise might not be able to afford.

Spent a few hours in a military transport in the Middle East on deployment, sitting next to a very black master sergeant in his 50s.

He was from the southern USA, and reckoned the US Army was the best thing that ever happened to him. One brother who he’d left behind in his old town was dead, shot down by a store owner in the midst of a robbery. Another had served much jail time.

Here was old mate, owned his own house, had another as an investment, and his two kids had both passed college and were well employed and married. It was his last month in the service, and he reckoned fantastic.

    What is Australian culture, DB?

    The English Language.
The rule of Law, and all that comes with our cultural history from The Mother country.
    I severe distaste of “bludgers”
Live and let live (not necessarily always a good characteristic)
The decency Australian men show toward women, only found in western countries.
    Strong belief in Families.
Whether people believe they are Christian or not , this country was founded on Christianity, and those not calling themselves religious still hold Christian values.
So, yes, it’s a Christian Country.
Until recently, a very straightforward speaking culture able to decimate and cut to the core of an issue, with very plain speaking.
Men who invoked fear in their opposition on the battlefield, top fighting men, that fought wars for righteousness and freedom.
Until recently, a culture that for such a small population excelled in inventiveness, music, exploration and world firsts in aviation and medicine, and top sportsmen and women and Olympics athletes.
A self deprecating sense of humour.

Some of these things are of course , lost forever, but, for the first couple of Hundred years, just the very best culture the world had ever seen.

No denying weather presenter Bunn is subtly selling climate change

For the past nine months, Channel Seven’s Melbourne weather presenter Jane Bunn has been inserting a subtle message into her nightly bulletins.

She never uses the words “climate change” but instead gently introduces the TV audience to the idea that the world is warming up.

Bunn … has been working with Climate Communicators, a program being run by Monash University’s Climate Change Communication Research Hub, who supply the presenters with graphics and info they can use if they wish.

Bunn and the ABC’s Paul Higgins are the first weather presenters to sign up for the pilot Australian program.

No comments about the industrial scale grooming and [email protected] of British girls by the pervasive alien culture?

Earlier on Saturday, the [CoE] synod called on the government to take action on advertising by the gambling industry, and impose a levy on it to pay for research and treatment.

Children were being groomed by pervasive advertising “relentlessly promoting” gambling, said Alan Smith, the bishop of St Albans. He accused gambling firms of “nationalising the costs of their industry while privatising the profits”.

The synod also agreed the church should lobby for and make land available for Gypsy, Roma and Traveller communities who face institutional racism.

If you take a position concerning Israel, and you have the exact same position on any other nation that acts the same, then, no, you are not anti-semitic.

Well, the Guardian does seem to conveniently overlook the 800-900 tonnes of reinforced concrete providing the foundation of each and every wind turbine, and the footings for each and every new transmission tower required to service them.

Perhaps a centralised, more energy dense generation source might be more friendly to the environment? To make best use of the transmission infrastructure already in place, perhaps we could put it somewhere like the Latrobe Valley?

    Lucky Lady II

Less than one year later, the Lucky Lady II, a B-50A (serial number 46-010) and a crew of fourteen commanded by Captain James Gallagher, completed the first nonstop round-the-world flight–23,452 miles–in 94 hours and 1 minute. The flight originated from Carswell Air Force Base, Texas, on 26 February and landed at the same location to complete its flight on 2 March 1949. The 43rd Air Refueling Squadron supplied four pairs of KB-29M tankers to refuel the aircraft four times while in flight through a technique developed initially by the British. The fuel delivery aircraft (KB-29M) would fly above and forward of the receiver aircraft (B-50A), and the crew would unreel a long refueling hose. The crew of the receiving aircraft would extend an apparatus from the rear of the aircraft designed to snag the trailing hose. Once the crew captured the fuel hose, they connected it to the refueling manifold, completed the transfer, and released the hose for recovery by the tanker crew. For this outstanding flight, the Lucky Lady II crew received numerous awards and decorations. Foremost among these recognitions were the award of the Mackay Trophy, given annually by the National Aeronautic Association for the outstanding flight of the year, and the Air Age Trophy, an Air Force Association award, given each year in recognition of significant contributions to the public understanding of the air age. The Air Age Trophy was later renamed the Hoyt S. Vandenberg Trophy in honor of the second USAF Chief of Staff. The success of the mission of the Lucky Lady II demonstrated even more rapid flight capability, supported by the fledgling ability to refuel in flight, and the ability to project global power through the USAF’s Strategic Air Command.
