    Jesus Christ.

Those cops know it is a debacle. A stitch up. You can read it on their faces.

To be fair, if the event was perpetrated by the people you want banned, you would still want them banned.

Why doesn’t the Big Mac index work well? Here is the classic Fed study.

  5. JC

I will numpty. I promise. Just as long as you can produce a link where I have ever proposed or promoted anything like that. Go on, show us all you aren’t a fking liar. Just once.

Of course you have. You recently suggested the high wages policy is a good one by suggesting that if we pay high wages to workers they go out and spend the money etc and the nation will be on a circular path to prosperity. That’s straight out of Trades Hall, you ridiculous canute and the only way you can achieve this is through state directed means. You’re always criticizing corporate profits by implying profits are evil and it’s taken away from da “wurkers”. Again, straight out of Trades Hall, you trades hall numbskull.

ABC reporting on Tarrant. Lots of hand-wringing about racist Australia, and a report from Grafton about the shame he had brought on the town. Woe are us. How could this be? What is wrong with us (i.e. you)?

Well, I for one have long suspected that Grafton is a hot spot for eco-fascism.

    Tel/None,

I won’t go into the ins and outs of telco checks during investigations, except to say that security agencies are partially beholden to other parties when doing them, and yes it does come down to budgetary constraints.

If you’re in a situation where you’re the recipient of some bad stuff and a telco check would assist your cause, please rest assured that it won’t be the attending cops that knock back the request for checks. It will be the people that pull the purse strings.

A check over a series of nuisance calls and a check relating to an actual homicide takes up the same amount of available space. Guess which one’s going to get the tick?

I haven’t got a dog in this fight. Just sayin’.

JC — Is there a link for the Big Mac PPP. It has always done well in the long-run.

It’s a rough marker when the differential is very very large. They only currency it doesn’t work with over a long period of time – since it was started… has been the Swiss Franc. Both PPP calculations and the index say the Swiss Franc has been grossly overvalued against the US Dollar and pretty much all others. However, it’s stayed overvalued for ages and will continue to in my opinion because its one if not the only place in the world where rich people aren’t as molested as they are or potentially will be in the future. The capital inflows are huge… or were so.

  12. Makka

Intelligence agencies might be able to work out how they were once again, completely ineffectual, but I doubt it.

So, there is in fact something to learn, if not understand. Like the Las Vegas massacre, nothing to learn or understand? It’s not wise to remain wilfully ignorant of such things. It’s discarding opportunities to act on prevention mechanisms.

I think “No Treaties Without a Referendum” would be much more betterer. Our governments have given away our sovereignty without any benefit to the nation, just so they can strut their egos at the right cocktail parties.
    Scum.

Got the idea many years ago from listening to Phatty Adams in the car on the way home one evening (keeping the rage burning). He said that all treaties should be incorporated in the Constitution. My immediate reaction was “Go for it Phatty. Not many will make the cut at a referendum”.

  22. Knuckle Dragger

I’m also a bit concerned about the current flood of Letters to the Editor and so on relating to the perceived inadequacies of intelligence and security services.

Every so often a spokeschick from what is now Home Affairs comes out and says there have been X amount of major terrorist attacks foiled since the year Y. That is for public consumption, and I am here to say the actual figure of MAJOR attacks foiled in this country is far higher. Public release of the actual figure would cause riots in the streets.

And that’s MAJOR attacks. Think the attempt to place multiple IEDs in the MCG on Grand Final Day in the mid 2000s. The incident in Christchurch, where a disaffected loony who’s come into some cash, has travelled but does not have an affiliation with a known terrorist group brasses up some civilians does not qualify as a major attack.

This is why Fixated Persons Units have sprung up in most States and Territories. Unfortunately, although the name’s nice they rarely have the infrastructure to achieve their aims. They do, however, do a very good job despite their shackles.

Like everything else, the services are governed by money. It’s not a bottomless pit like Indigenous Affairs.
Yes, they can keep track of everyone and everything if they quintupled their staff and were given an unlimited budget and free charter, but ask yourself – do you really, really want that?

I liken it to a soccer goalkeeper. He knocks away 99 strikes from professional players, and no-one says anything. The 100th hits the back of the net and suddenly he’s an incompetent moron who should be catapulted into a river of lava.

  23. DrBeauGan

If you can find the link please post it because its truly excellent. Durkin has done a wonderful job of exposing the green movement and showing their misanthropy dates back to the stirrings of the Germany nazi movement right through to the nazis. It’s a North European form of modern paganism.

Not by reading his stupid manifesto but by interviewing the evil sod to find out how he slipped through the net.

We should not tolerate the association of right wing with those prone to violence it’s a nonsense. Reality is there are people who are prepared to use violent means to progress their political and theological ends, whether they are Muslim anarchists racists animal liberationists eco fascists, separatists communists socialists etc.

They have far more in common with each other than they do with ordinary people.

what will happen now is an ordinary people who want to have reasonable discussions about the influences of Islam and immigration etc will be shut down because the definition of hate speech will be broadened to include anything that its not right think.

  27. JC

    vr

I don’t disagree with the Fed piece after reading the conclusion. They argue the index hasn’t worked for currencies pegged to the US Dollar. Well yes that’s true, because there are also many , many factors impacting value other than just PPP. Pegging, unless done properly is a recipe for disaster.

A good example of a decent peg that would last was Hong Kong as you could at one time go to the bank and exchange your Hong Kong dollars for greenback.

Most of the currencies that were in so-called pegs were in fact fixed to the US dollar. That’s not a peg. At the conclusion of the piece, those Fed people appear to make that mistake by considering the Argentinian peso to have been pegged. But it wasn’t. It was just a fix.. as we saw.

  28. Overburdened

    I will try to explain.

Everyday unsuspecting people were murdered going about their usual activities.

In my experience people are all the same at the human level with aspirations, love of family, a sense of community as well as human frailty.

The human condition is constant regardless of social and cultural overlay.

Whether or not you can relate to, aspire to or despise people that are different to you; people individually will generally respond to you in a way that you will understand according to your acts and words wherever you go.

I mentioned previously about the aspiration of holding all people in unconditional good regard until they demonstrate that they are not worthy.

I don’t doubt that you know people of various ethnic or religious persuasions, unless you are insular, and would say that some of them may even be friends.

To lump the affected people into a pile of corpses to serve as an example of you claim evidence for your case is what regimes do around the world.

The logical conclusion of this is war.

I am not opposed to war per se. It is part of the human condition, and has shown no sign of letting up.
When war comes to you suffering and loss are part of the process, even if you are on the winning side.

I would recommend Alinsky rules for radicals to see how seductive and commonly used by both sides the techniques are.

I would recommend Canetti crowds and power for a admittedly less than authoritative commentary on how we as individuals become part of the mass.

Ok, so you do admit and it’s been established again you’re a POS fucking liar. Good.

Yes, I do support market determined wages and labour rates. Always have and you won’t ever find a quote from me to the contrary.

However, what I do NOT support is the deliberate and artificial overwhelming of our current labour pool with turbo charged immigration numbers that every reputable economist including in the RBA agrees crushes wages growth in this country. Effectively “the market” is currently being manipulated for the sake of the population ponzi. ( You know that you will find previous links I have provided to support that assertion)The ponzi that essentially is making our cities increasingly unlivable and living standards heading towards third world. Which is what you are advocating here every day.

If all that is too complex an explanation for you of what I DO support numpty then I might dumb it down further for you.

vr, I don’t think it’s that .. that strong. It’s at the lower end of the range we’ve been in for about the last 5 odd years. I don’t look at the NZD/USD rate. I look at it as AUD/NZD… the cross rate.

I think the relative weakness of the Aussie Dollar vis the Kiwi is the continued discounting of the incoming economic Orcs around May, whereas as we know the NZD orcs as a known quantity at this stage. 🙂

Our commods are doing reasonably well so that ought to be supportive of the Aussie dollar. However, if you look a the price action, the Aussie is very heavy and never seems to hold a rally. This is capital flight, I think.

  43. Makka

Sure, there is latitude in such things, Trades Hall. It’s not the same as lathing a piece of steel down to the exact mil. This is why it sounds so confusing to you. Deriving PPP is not an exact science. We know, or at least we understand there is such a theoretical thing as a real exchange rate, but getting there is not for lathers for the obvious “exacting” reasons.

But gaining some understanding from his motivations to hate and act in such a terrible is not a worthless exercise. Not that such an exercise will be ever fully transparent.

  48. JC

Yes. There’s also the other issue that Chinese inflow to buy property here seems to have fallen off drastically. This may not be due to political risk though as it’s also dried up in the US.

Senator Fraser Anning attacked with an egg at protest after Christchurch remarks

    Subscriber only

A teenager who egged Senator Fraser Anning at an event in Moorabin this afternoon has been released by police pending further inquiries.

The egging sparked a violent confrontation as Senator Anning retaliated by slapping the boy in the head before punching him in the head.

A group of Senator Anning’s supporters then jumped on the boy, placing him in a headlock and tackling him to the ground.

Videos of the clash were widely circulated online, showing the 17-year-old boy casually walking up behind the Senator and cracking the egg on his head before the Senator lashes out.

The incident happened about 3pm and by 4pm a GoFundMe page was launched to raise money for legal fees for the 17-year-old, who was dubbed “egg boi”.

The fundraiser had by Saturday night whisked up dozens of donations from people describing his act as “heroic”.

Some thoughts on SloMo’s immediate naming of the killer as a “right-winger”, then banning Milo for alleged “hate speech”.

As Milo points out it isn’t “right wingers” or right wing rhetoric that leads people to mass murder. Real “hate speech” is exhorting Muslims to kill the Kafur, as in the Koran, or when people falsely blame Joos for evil things that they aren’t actually doing. Pointing out that Muslims are regularly killing and r*ping westerners in western countries is not “hate speech”.

However when our leaders lie about the nature of Islam, continue to import Muslims into the country, obfuscate about the motive for Muslim atrocities and publicly suck up to Muslims while denigrating anyone who dares point out the truth, then it leaves many people frustrated.

Western governments’ craven appeasement of Islam, such as SloMo’s actions in the last 24 hours, have done far more to inspire the Christchurch murderer than any so-called “hate speech”.

And you are 1000% supporting slave labour and family poverty while I have already stated I support a (manipulation free) market for wages. How about that, numpty.

You make zero sense as usual, you dishonest dickhead.

I whole hardheartedly support market determined wages and zero qualifiers. In other words labor hire is a private contract between consenting adults. That is not supportive of slave labor rates as though they even could exist in this country.

On the other thread you were arguing wage differentiation that would obviously occur in a market driven labor market is supportive of slave labor. You’re either too fucking stupid or just a dishonest moron with holes in your argument bigger than the one you were digging in Africa.

Haha Peter I was just reading about how egg boi who was arrested already has a gofundme page set up for his legal fees. As far as I know he tried to egg Anning because of the totally gross and tasteless tweet he put out just after the New Zealand mosque massacre. Iam sure egg boi was trying to make a point that Anning was racist or not even though Islam is not a religion. And the egg boy himself was the epitome of a peaceful Kumbaya inclusive non racist.
I must sat I think Anning was totally out of line with his tweet and he has now been given more notoriety than he deserves thanks to media and politician and now activist reaction. I’m starting to think that maybe he is a slightly off balance bigot. On the other hand seeing him slap and punch egg boi was sort of sweet in its own way. The right to self defence is sacrosanct.

No they are not , and these people in Christchurch were just going about their business praying in their mosque. They we’re not harming anyone. They did not deserve to die. They were innocent. And thirdly Anning was totally out of line to quote the gospel of Matthew in the end and somehow implicate Christians in there or infer that Christianity would demand his f****** stupid response. The commentary on that Barry Twitter feed is kneeslapping.

It’s not as knee slapping as they think. If this little bitch isn’t charged with serious assault the next attack on a politician could very well be with a gun.

Well an 800 cal diet for a month is actually really difficult to maintain – does it need to be that long – so respect to you Beaug. Maybe you can substitute cucumber for the broccoli. I love broccoli but I couldn’t live on it. Maybe try it as seat for a change (saute a bit of onion in butter then add chicken stock, broccoli and seasoning, cook till tender, puree but leave some bits for crunch and add some crispy bacon bits before serving. If you’re counting calories you could just omit the butter and/or bacon)

  157. Dear

George Houston Reid, that larger than life pioneer of federation, was pelted with flour and eggs at a rally when he was Premier of NSW. Cool as a cucumber, he retorted ‘See. I’ve made you so prosperous that you can afford to throw away good food?’

On another occasion, a heckler was taunting Reid about his girth. When the heckler asked ‘what’s it going to be?’, Reid replied ‘well, if it is a girl I shall name it after Her Gracious Majesty Queen Victoria, and if a boy I shall name it after the Prince of Wales. But if, as is most likely, it is all piss and wind, I shall name it after you.’

They don’t make politicians like that any more.

JC the correct thing would be to charge the egg punk although he will just get off with a slap on the wrist but Anning is about to get censured and I am sure they will make mileage out of him throwing a punch even though I back him on that 100%. I think he was out of line with his tweet and his statement and he needs to get some better political advice and hopefully the better advisor might tell him don’t lay charges unless the Punk decides to try his luck first.

You may think he’s out of line and I believe he could have left the last bit out which sounds awfully like retribution to me, but he should be free to speak his mind. Anning did say, at the very beginning, that he opposes violence. The way the dogs were set on him is appalling.

The cheeky eggy bastard actually starts to have a go back at Anning after the slap.
He’s kind of lucky to have security grab him by the neck methinks.

  166. jupes

The other amusing thing with the Anning egging video was a comment made by one of the “nazis” when the cops arrived to arrest the young dickhead.

You couldn’t see what was happening but I assumed a female copper arrived first because the “nazi” made some disparaging remark to a female being unable to physically control the young idiot. There was a bit of gap after that then we see about half a dozen coppers taking the young dickhead out. So the “nazi” was spot on.

I never said Anning should not speak. I just think his timing was appalling and his analysis was totally wrong and inflammatory and he is now suffering for it not unreasonably. It’s a bit like Bob Brown popping up while the Black Saturday fires were still raging and people were still dying and telling us the bushfires were caused by climate change.

I do think some of Anning’a opponents are equally over the top in their reaction – hello slow Mo hello Shorten – which I think has now gained him more notoriety and also ramped up the social media sewer and the Lefty chattering class to create an atmosphere where our politicians are now going to outdo each other in how many additional impositions they will throw at us in order to outdo each other in their dick swinging over Anni g and Christchurch.

I do not condone people attacking him physically and would fully support him laying assault charges against egg boi and fully support his right to defend himself. I’m just thinking that if he was a mature man and a responsible Senator he would act to diffuse the situation and lower the temperature in what is already a pretty febrile atmosphere. He can do that also with a warning that if this violence doesn’t stop the next time it would be quite serious as you say.

  177. jupes

Jupes I outlined three points where Anning was totally wrong.

Okay let’s go to the tape:

He seemed to imply that this lowlife terrorist was inspired by Muslim immigration.

No he stated it directly. Anning:

The real cause of bloodshed on New Zealand streets today is the immigration program which allowed Muslim fanatics to immigrate to New Zealand in the first place.

Let us be clear, while Muslims may have been the victims today, usually they are the perpetrators. World wide, Muslims are killing people in the name of their faith on an industrial scale.

    Fact check: True.

Secondly he seems to imply that all Muslim immigrants are extremist or terrorist or something.

Or something … Here is what he said:

And just because the followers of this savage belief were not the killers in this instance, does not make them blameless.

Fact check: True. Terrorists cannot exist without the support of so-called “moderate” Muslims. They come from them and live among them.

And thirdly Anning was totally out of line to quote the gospel of Matthew in the end and somehow implicate Christians in there or infer that Christianity would demand his f****** stupid response.

He didn’t implicate anyone. It was a direct quote. Very apt in my view. Anning is not “totally wrong”, you are you twit.

  178. DrBeauGan

So it’s broccoli soup for you then Beaugan. I think you’re not supposed to have too much broccoli if you’re on blood thinners though. I think that’s what my dad told me. Or maybe that’s just his excuse for avoiding broccoli.

I understand your dad’s position. I used to loathe broccoli, but now I quite like it. My taste buds have evolved over a few billion years to tell me what’s good for me, and I trust them a lot more than I trust the quacks.

I just debunked you point by point. So that would be a “NO”.

And yet you don’t see anything wrong with them.

As I pointed out, your three points are wrong. Anning’s points are correct.

Well that’s a revelation. You really think this m*********** Christchurch shooter was upset about Muslim immigration do you?

Well yes. Among a whole lot of other incoherent rubbish, he does seem quite clear that he does not support Muslim immigration. However that point is irrelevant to this discussion, which is about Fraser Anning’s post. Anning is correct that Muslim immigration is a major factor in yesterday’s violence.

Adding mustard to your broccoli not only tastes good but help improve the nutritional benefits.

…addition of powdered mustard seeds to the heat processed broccoli significantly increased the formation of sulforaphane.

  192. BorisG

Anning is correct that Muslim immigration is a major factor in yesterday’s violence.

  194. C.L.

The latest revelations about John McCain – that he passed around Russia’s fake dossier to more than a dozen journalists – raise questions about his loyalty to the United States. Essentially, McCain was working for the Kremlin.

  195. BorisG

JC, Of course it isn’t what it used to be. but maybe mafia’s funeral is premature. This wasn’t just the first killing of a reputed mafia boss in 35 years, but an extremely brazen attack that appears designed to send a message.

  196. JC

    Here, Boris.

Authorities continue to eye 72-year-old Gene Gotti, a brother of the late Gambino crime boss “Dapper Don” John Gotti, in the killing, according to law enforcement sources who say the hit on Cali was not sanctioned by New York’s five Mafia families.

Gene Gotti was released from prison in September 2018 after spending 29 years behind bars for heroin dealing.

“Everything was running smoothly. Everybody was making money and something like this is only bad for business,” a law enforcement source said. “Now they’re back on the front page.”

  197. C.L.

Let us be clear, while Muslims may have been the victims today, usually they are the perpetrators. World wide, Muslims are killing people in the name of their faith on an industrial scale.

This is axiomatic. An established, self-evident truth that cannot be denied.

  198. jupes

This is as correct as saying that the existence of Joos is a major factor of anti Semitism and nazism.

Only if you believe Joos have a detrimental effect on society. Quite obviously they don’t.

On the other hand Muslims are invited into western countries, refuse to assimilate and then proceed to attack the locals. The murderous Muslims come from and live among the so-called “moderate” Muslims.

The actions of our politicians in making excuses for their violence while bringing more of them in, is craven and is a large factor in the frustrations many of us have with Muslim immigration.

So take your moral equivalence and shove it up your arse.

  199. BorisG

JC a I have read similar theories but

Everybody was making money and something like this is only bad for business,” a law enforcement source said.

What kind of law enforcement it is if it allows an illegal business cyndicate to run smoothly?

  206. Zulu Kilo Two Alpha

How disappointing is Cory Bernardi, compared with Anning.

For what’s it’s worth, my understanding is that the Australian Conservatives have the third largest number of members of the political parties. Now, if Fraser Anning could join the Australian Conservatives….

  207. areff

    ‘da’ Pacific’, to be precise

  208. BorisG

Only if you believe Joos have a detrimental effect on society. Quite obviously they don’t.

My point is that whatever concerns you have about muslim immigration, or immigration in general, or dials in general, legitimate or othewise, does not in any way justify killing people, unarmed civilians.

Thus the link is wrong. Obviously the link does exist in the killer’s head, but to claim some sort of general causal relationship or to suggest that this event should trigger a rweconsideration of immigration policy, is wrong. By all means, call to reconsider immigration policy, but not because of this massacre. That is annings mistake.

  209. None

So all you’re saying Jupesis that Anning is a f****** heartless bastard and he doesn’t want us to have any sympathy for innocent Muslims who just lost their lives at the hand of some f****** anarchist nutter. Not even that 4 year old boy. Because deep down that all f****** terrorists. Well done Jupes you just told me you support terrorism as long as it’s against Muslims

  210. BorisG

Jupe, what you are implying, is that somehow because Muslim immigration is a real issue, while Joos existence is not, the NZ massacre is somehow more justified than an antisemitic violence. But IT IS NOT justified. Period.

  211. Fisky

Muslim immigration is a major factor in yesterday’s violence.

The only factor in yesterday’s violence was the decision by a Breivikian extremist to murder dozens of innocent people. What political outcome he thinks will come of this, only he knows, but if he was trying to garner support for immigration restriction, it will not work.

  212. BorisG

There is a difference between intelligence and evidence.

Well yes but these words smell of complacency. I thought the times when mafia bosses operated openly in front of powerless law enforcement are gone.

We can discuss more next week, I will be in Melbourne.

  213. BorisG

The book is an account of the Katyn Forrest massacres, after 1941, in where the Russians shot any Polish officers or intelligentsia, who may have been a nuisance. ….

  217. BorisG

t’s safe to say they’ve got a handle on who’s doing what, and they’ll strike at a time of their choosing for maximum baddie grief.

I hope you are right. But when a major mafia figure is sentenced only to two years in prison and then quickly rises to become a family boss, it suggests that some level of mob activity, within certain limits, is tolerated as a fact of life. He has been out of prison for 10 years. Seems the law enforcement has infinite patience. Definitely more patience than mafia rivals. That is certainly true in this case. Cali will not face law enforcement because he is dead.

  218. jupes

Jupe, what you are implying, is that somehow because Muslim immigration is a real issue, while Joos existence is not, the NZ massacre is somehow more justified than an antisemitic violence. But IT IS NOT justified. Period.

What is justified is the government acting in the national interest and banning Muslim immigration.

However, because they cravenly appease the Mohammedans every time there is a Muslim atrocity, it was probably predictable that some nutter would take the law into his own hands at some point. After the sheer volume of Muslim attacks on the west in the last two decades, it is amazing it has taken so long.

There is no equivalence to antisemitism whatsoever.

  219. C.L.

The only factor in yesterday’s violence was the decision by a Breivikian extremist to murder dozens of innocent people. What political outcome he thinks will come of this, only he knows, but if he was trying to garner support for immigration restriction, it will not work.

All of that is boilerplate, though.

Not quite. The Killer had any number of issues in his Manifesto, and he could have chosen any country for his terrorism but he chose New Zealand because it was Target rich ( I suspect the proportion of Muslims in New Zealand is way smaller than ours) and he was apprehended on his way to a school.
