Koch lost all of his “social licence” when even the SMH reported negatively about his “crass joke on-air about the former Prime Minister’s wife in 2004.”

Now he is on record as a partner in a two-man anti woman bullying team.
Not that the anti-conservative viewers would mind.

Appropriately, one of the main reasons that the Brits voted for Brexit is they are shitted to tears at having Eurocrat Daleks tell them what to do and when.
Just over a week to Hard Brexit.

Gird your loins, Brits. This is 1940. It’s GO time.
    Where the hell is Churchill?

  3. Numbers, thank you for donning the uniform of our country.
Now, could you put Vietnam behind you and move on with your life?

I have done so in spades, but there are random trolls posting here who routinely use my service as a form of abuse. I am simply following the advice freely given by the webmaster about dealing with them.

It’s pretty simple really, refrain from ad hom abuse based on my service, and you won’t have to put up with my posting about it.

Numbers – If you move to Russia you can learn to fire a machine gun!

Putin’s youth army plans to teach ONE MILLION children how to use machine guns

THOUSANDS of Russian orphans as young as eight are to be drafted into Vladimir Putin’s youth army and taught how to use machine guns and throw hand grenades.

The Russian President is planning a rapid expansion of his Yunarmia as he hopes to amass one million young recruits ahead of next year’s 75th anniversary commemorations of the end of World War 2. However critics have slammed the conscription of boys and girls as “immoral” and resembling the Hitler Youth programme. The move coincides with a senior Russian military official’s outburst that children in Russia have become “afraid of machine guns” since the fall of the Soviet Union, a development which he declared as not “normal”.

If you are worried about your age you can just identify as a teenager from Finland and he’ll let you in.

What a great start to today!

Drove past an anti-Abbott demo and had time to wind down the window, give them the thumbs down and boo them loudly.

Leaving a cafe after a very nice brekky, stood aside to let a young lady through the door first. She smiled nicely and said “thank you”.

Got home and went straight to Tom’s ‘toons.

The rest of the day will be a great one.

I also notice the media aren’t lining up to condemn Erdogan’s comments like they would an Abbott or Trump etc if they strayed off the media script.

The left agree with Erdogan’s comments, they want Muslims to kill critics of Islam. I’ve seen a bunch of them nodding in agreement that a Muslim should kill Trump and Hanson.

The left know exactly what Islam is and hope to use it to destroy what they hate. Any collateral damage along the way is too bad.

  12. Interesting 1999 parliamentary briefing about conscription and the Timor deployment.

An extract referring to the CMF –

It was also possible to gain exemption by joining the then Citizen Military Forces (CMF), now known as the Army Reserve. In practice this latter exemption had the unfortunate effect of filling up the Reserve with thousands of reluctant members primarily interested in evading fulltime military service and the possibility of being sent to Vietnam. This resulted in considerable dilution of the Army Reserve’s quality.

Conscription can now only be introduced in time of war, and with the consent of both houses.

There is no reference to gender, but age is between 18 and 60.

Property market ‘running scared’ of Labor’s negative gearing tax plan

By Mackenzie Scott and Turi Condon

Federal Labor’s proposed windback of negative gearing tax breaks would cause already nervous investors to desert the property market, sending prices falling further in most cities between next year and 2022, new economic modelling shows.

In a best-case scenario from SQM Research, housing prices will drop a further 4-8 per cent over a three-year period from 2020 to 2022, assuming an interest-rate cut of 50 basis points by early January next year.

Property sales turnover is predicted to fall another 8 per cent to 15 per cent by 2022 from 2019 levels with most of the declines in sales to occur in the 2020 calendar year, causing a flow-on effect to state and territory governments with an aggregate fall in state stamp duty revenue of $2.3 billion.

The negative effect: How Labor’s policy will affect property prices and rent yields.

SQM has also modelled a harsher scenario in which price falls could reach 15 per cent without an interest rate drop, and one where the current tax break remains untouched.

If there were no change to negative gearing, average capital city prices could rise 8-14 per cent over the three years.

Managing director of SQM Research, Louis Christopher, said the windback of negative gearing was needed in the long term, but should be implemented slowly as part of wider property tax reform.

How Labor’s policy will affect property prices and rent yields.

“Such a tax change during a housing downturn is, in our opinion, a risky move for the economy and so we encourage discussion of perhaps a phase-in period for such legislation that would reduce the economic shock that this tax change could create,” Mr Christopher said.

“Once again, (we) strongly encourage Labor to consider some of the investor issues, particularly surrounding the distortion their policy may create on pricing of off-the-plan developments and the likely losses investors in those properties would face come resale time to those who won’t have the tax concession.”

Labor said modelling that suggests the reforms will see the market drop were unfounded, with shadow treasurer Chris Bowen calling it one in a “parade of shonky property reports”.

Labor first announced its changes to negative gearing at the peak of the market to improve housing affordability. Only newly built properties would be allowed to be negatively geared under the changes, with the tax break to be grandfathered for existing properties. Capital gains tax would also be halved.

Treasurer Josh Frydenberg said the policy would be a lose-lose situation, particularly when the market is falling, with the policy most likely to affect mum-and-dad investors. “Labor’s idea of fairness is not only to discourage hardworking Australians to save, but to punish those that do.”

He also criticised Labor for not naming a start date for their policy, fuelling more market uncertainty.

The government said investors could see average net rental losses across several electorates, ranging from $8500 in a key Labor seat to $13,300 in the Treasurer’s seat of Kooyong, based on tax office figures from 2016-17.

Under its first scenario, SQM found that Sydney’s housing prices could drop 7-12 per cent over the three years, Melbourne’s prices fall 8-13 per cent, Brisbane’s prices could rise 2 per cent with the possibility of a 3 per cent drop over the period, Adelaide could be up 2 per cent to a fall of 2 per cent, while Hobart could see a rise of 3 per cent to a drop of 5 per cent. Perth faced a brighter future with prices rising 3-10 per cent.

Gallipoli memorials will be targeted like Civil War memorials as Big Australia dilutes into insignificance those with family links to the Dardanelles campaign.

Yes! And he created the AIF!
    As CEW Bean recorded

” Such were the vague notions entertained at this early stage concerning the main expeditionary army which Australia set out to create. A second expeditionary force, smaller and quite distinct, was being raised at the same time, in order to comply with a request of the British Government for the seizure of German possessions and wireless stations in the Pacific. This force, whose establishment came under the new Chief of the General Staff, Colonel J. G. Legge, and which sailed on August rgth, was known as the Australian Naval and Military Expeditionary Force. The history of that expedition is told in another volume. It was necessary to give the main force a name to distinguish it from the smaller one, and at one of the earliest meetings with his new staff General Bridges asked for suggestions. About a dozen titles were put forward by various officers.
“Too long!’’ said the General bluntly to some of these proposals. He would not on any consideration have the title “expeditionary.” “It’s not an expedition.” he said. “I want a name that will sound well when they call us by our initials. That’s how they’ll speak of us. We don’t want to be called the ‘B.L.U.F.’!” “Australian Imperial Force” was his own suggestion, and, like most strong men. he adopted his own proposal in the end. Though the day when every military institution was called by its initials-as happened during the warhad not yet arrived, he was perfectly right in his forecast. It was by the letters “A.I.F.” that the Australian Imperial Force became known throughout the Empire”

Could just be his shirt. Hairy once had a new shirt for a VIP’s wedding, and it was dreadful, an Italian material that looked good, like a twill, but turned out to be based on greenhouse principles – he sweated his way through the church service and the reception. We tossed it to charity in a most uncharitable move, for the deserving poor certainly didn’t deserve this.

An autocrat’s dangerous words insult and divide

    – The Australian Editorial

The founder of modern Turkey, Mustafa Kemal Ataturk, was a visionary and a reformer as well as an autocrat and a warrior. As a youthful commander, he was the scourge of the Anzacs at Gallipoli. At the Kemal Ataturk Memorial in Canberra, there’s an inscription attributed to the brilliant soldier that has defined the enduring and close bond between one-time enemies: “Those heroes that shed their blood and lost their lives … You are now lying in the soil of a friendly country. Therefore rest in peace. There is no difference between the Johnnies and the Mehmets to us where they lie side by side here in this country of ours … You, the mothers who sent their sons from faraway countries, wipe away your tears; your sons are now lying in our bosom and are in peace. After having lost their lives on this land they have become our sons as well.”

Today another Turkish autocrat is in power, but his words do not seek to heal or unite. President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has vowed to send “anti-Muslim Australians” back in coffins “like their grandfathers”. Mr Erdogan is campaigning in local elections in the northwestern province of Canakkale, home to the historic battlefields, and has used last Friday’s massacres at two mosques in Christchurch to whip up nationalist and religious sentiments. “The enemies of Muslims have shown that they continue to hate us. They are testing us from 16,500km away,” Mr Erdogan said. He may be using the tragedy of 50 Muslims killed by a right-wing Australian extremist for base politicking. But security experts warn his remarks are provocative, mimic Islamist firebrands and could lead to a spiral of extremist reprisals.

Australian leaders promptly pushed back, but with restraint. Scott Morrison demanded an apology from Turkey and dismissed the lame excuses served up by its envoy to Canberra. The Prime Minister said the remarks were an insult to the memory of our Anzacs. Bill Shorten described the Turkish leader’s comments as foolish, offensive and playing into the hands of those who seek to divide. “They do not protect the peace and security of any nation,” the Opposition Leader said. Mr Morrison is not inflaming the diplomatic crisis but he must send a strong message so Turkey is aware of the consequences of imperilling the safety of Australians and New Zealanders. Each year, thousands of pilgrims visit the Gallipoli peninsula in the northern spring to commemorate Anzac Day. Many are already in Turkey; some will now leave that country immediately, while others will postpone their travel to the region until the temperature subsides.

Turkey has long been regarded as a model of stable and prosperous Muslim democracy, a vital ally for the West in the fight against Islamist extremism. Yet the country is in deep recession. Mr Erdogan has been a malign force for repression and illiberalism. After the attempted coup in July 2016, the President embarked on a program of heavy-handed repression against his perceived political rivals; 150,000 people were jailed. Mr Erdogan has made anti-Semitic statements and has a talent for antagonising Western allies, especially the US. He colludes with Putin’s Russia, Assad’s Syria and the terrorist-sponsoring Iranian regime. That is the context for this desperate and divisive tirade.

In calibrating a response to such verbal recklessness, Mr Morrison declared “all options were on the table”. The government must ensure it does not escalate the crisis but protects our people, our interests and our heritage. Although they were bitter enemies in 1915 — who didn’t much bother about taking prisoners in the first weeks of the campaign — Australia and Turkey have ended up as friends. It is, as the late Les Carlyon describes in Gallipoli, one of the “peculiar” things about the Anzac tradition, or myth or legend. “They laugh with each other and share a dry sense of humour,” Carlyon wrote of the bond. “Their war, they feel, had honour; there is no incident that festers, no Burma-Thailand Railway, no Babi-Yar, hardly a dead civilian. It was a soldiers’ war.” We are reconciled peoples. Political leaders come and go, but only unifiers, peacemakers and reformers are truly revered or worth remembering. We don’t want any more blood spilled, funerals or tears. No more incidents, feuds or wounds that fester. The slaughter in Christchurch should be an end, not a beginning.

    Darby, Evelyn Douglas (1910–1985)
    by Peter Henderson
This article was published in Australian Dictionary of Biography, Volume 17, (MUP), 2007

After losing preselection for Manly in 1961, he resigned from the party. He successfully contested the seat in the 1962 and 1965 elections as an Independent, and was readmitted to the party in August 1966. The split was at times bitter and Darby did not advance past the back-bench when he returned, although he continued to represent Manly until he retired in 1978.

You know where the real “white supremacism” is? Stay with me

It’s clear from the last few days that what is meant by ‘white supremacism’ is anything or anybody that promotes our Western intellectual and moral patrimony. See, you can attack anyone that defends or promotes Virgil or Shakespeare, Aristotle or Aquinas, Michelangelo or Rembrandt, Allegri or Bach, Gothic or Palladio, and so on, as effectively ‘white supremacists’. It’s the dead white males of the 90s ‘culture of complaint’ taken to eleventy and with the added benefit of potentially being able to silence them with hate speech laws, deplatform them on social media, and so on, because they are, purportedly, ‘racists’.

    Polar Bear Populations Booming

Liberals apparently chose the polar bear as a poster child for global warming because the bears are considered cute, although no one who had a close encounter with a polar bear would describe it that way. Why global warming would be harmful to polar bears was never persuasively explained, nor was there any explanation of how the bears had survived many climatic changes over hundreds of thousands of years. In any event, it’s time to call the whole thing off. Polar bears are thriving:

Polar bear numbers could easily exceed 40,000, up from a low point of 10,000 or fewer in the 1960s.

In The Polar Bear Catastrophe that Never Happened, a book published today by the Global Warming Policy Foundation, Dr Susan Crockford uses the latest data as well as revisiting some of the absurd values used in official estimates, and concludes that polar bears are actually thriving:

That makes me a white supremacist. I wouldn’t have described myself that way, I suppose I’ve felt that the enormous superiority of Western Civilisation too obvious to need pointing out. Also, I see nothing particularly white skinned about it except historically, I don’t give a damn about the ethnicity of a Westerner. Also, there are also plenty of white skinned people with no claim to be members of my civilisation, indeed, who hate it. Still, if those haters want to label me as a white supremacist, I don’t mind. As long as it doesn’t mislead non-white skinned people into thinking I look down on them.

Go on Bernardi, I dares you.

Anything I post pales into insignificance compared with the propaganda that was around in the day, and persists here amongst other places, including the MSM.

  48. do you denounce all those on the left calling the NZ shooter right wing?
    If not, why not?

    They are absolutely correct.
But someone who claims Hitler was a socialist couldn’t abide that notion, so I’m unsurprised you can’t deal with it.
He belonged to that element of the far right best referred to as Harpics – so far gone, that he was clean round the bend. His beliefs and behaviour are eerily similar to Brevik’s – a manifesto/some rudimentary planning/defenceless targets.

The elements of that behaviour reside here in verbal form – targeting women/people with disabilities/transgendered people/anyone who is vulnerable because of who they are, rather than how they behave.

The shooter exhibited classic extremist right wing behaviour, the most notable of which is cowardice.

BTW, you’ve just posted the funniest thing I’ve read in a while – labelling ScoMo as “on the Left”.

NSW Election: Michael Daley stumped on cost of policies during Sky News, Daily Telegraph forum

Sid Maher NSW Editor – Sascha O’Sullivan Reporter

Michael Daley has stumbled over his education and TAFE funding commitments, telling a crucial pre-election debate he would “get back to you’’ when he couldn’t say how much Labor’s key policy promises would cost.

The Opposition Leader, who has been under fire over comments that Asian immigrants are “taking the jobs’’ of young Sydneysiders, was also fuzzy on how much it would cost to refurbish Allianz Stadium, which is currently being demolished and has been a flash point of the election campaign.

“I don’t know because don’t know what the stadium will look like,’’ Mr Daley said.

His apparent failure to grasp to detail of key policies handed Gladys Berejiklian a clear win in a forum at Western Sydney University on Wednesday night in what was likely their last face-to-face encounter before Saturday’s election.

An audience of 100 undecided voters decisively handed the debate to the Premier. Fifty said they would vote for the Coalition while 25 said they would vote Labor and 25 remained undecided.

The debate will hand a campaign boost to the Premier.

Asked about education spending, Mr Daley said Labor would lift funding from 77 per cent of the Gonski funding model to 100 per cent. But when compare David Speers asked him to name the difference in dollar terms, Mr Daley said: “I can’t remember the exact figure. I’ll have a look at it. I just can’t remember it off the top of my head.’’

Asked about TAFE funding, Mr Daley again became confused. “It will be, ah, about $3 billion on TAFE.’’

    Ms Berejiklian: “What?”

Mr Daley: “Let me check that figure.’’

Speers then asked Mr Daley: “You’re not sure on your education centrepiece, you’re not sure how much you’re spending on schools, and you’re not sure how much more you’re spending on TAFE?’’

Mr Daley: “I’ll just check that figure and get back to you.’’

Mr Daley later clarified that Labor would spend $2.7bn of a $7.4bn combined federal-state package over four years to increase public school funding.

At the Labor launch, Mr Daley announced the $2.7bn boost to public schools and an increase in TAFE funding of $64m.

Mr Daley started the debate attacking the government’s $70bn privatisation program and accusing the government of wasting $14bn on projects including the troubled eastern suburbs light rail.

Mr Daley also accused the government of being “at war with the environment’’ after one million fish died at the Menindee Lakes. He attacked the government as one that “doesn’t listen to people’’.

Ms Berejiklian plugged the government’s infrastructure program and said she wanted every person to “have the chance to be their best’’, arguing the government was trying to take pressure off households.

However, she faced complaints from the audience about mental health services in western Sydney and a lack of training places for graduate nurses.

On the environment, Mr Daley trumped Labor’s solar bonus to get 500,000 solar systems on rooftops.

He also said he would back students repeating last week’s climate change protest once a year.

    Daley stumble ‘no surprise’

Gladys Berejiklian said she “wasn’t surprised” that Mr Daley could not recall key education policy cost figures in the debate.

“I wasn’t surprised because the Labor Party has always lacked detail on the finances,” Ms Berejiklian said on 2GB’s Alan Jones Breakfast show this morning.

“If you don’t keep an eye on the finances the citizens suffer, that’s why they turned our (Allianz) stadium into a basket-case.”

“I’ve always been someone who is across my brief and across the detail,” Ms Berejiklian said.

In response to a question on how the Premier thought she went, Ms Berejiklian replied: “I’ll let others talk about it.”

“If my government is elected we won’t take NSW backwards,” she said.

“You might think that this is all too strong, that placing at least some of the blame on white Australia is a kind of self-centered masochism, that blaming a nation’s culture for the sins of a citizen is like blaming humanity for the crimes of one man,” Withers concedes, before saying that it must be done anyway since there is no other option.

What Ms. Withers may not be considering in her self-righteous screed is that embracing collective guilt by association opens the door to the very sins she seems to detest the most.

If all “white Australians” are guilty for the crimes of one white Australian, then why aren’t all Muslims responsible for the crimes of Islamic State terrorists? Why aren’t all Jews responsible for the death of Jesus Christ? Why aren’t all blacks responsible for the atrocities of Ugandan dictator Idi Amin? Why aren’t all leftists responsible for the crimes of Nicolás Maduro or Harvey Weinstein? The list could go on forever.

    Struth,
Fact is, in the American vernacular, Bernardi is a pussy. Forget him and AC. They will disappear without a trace.
Got this from what appears to be Bernardi although not signed in reply to some disgusting comments about Fraser Anning by Lyle Shelton and a slightly less dishonest one by Bernardi that arrived in my inbox the last few days:
“If you suspend common sense, compassion and basic humanity, then making comments of that ilk whilst the bodies were still warm is entirely acceptable.

I regret that peoples common courtesy and civil society are trampled by emotional outbursts. That is really, really dumb but clearly you disagree with me

And I probably know Senator Anning better than you. He may be a nice guy but his comments were still inappropriate

    All the best,”

    To which I have replied:

No, he actually said he deplored the violence but reminded us of who were usually the perpetrators thereof.
Pretty simple, true and again a reminder of why common sense is losing.
Where was the Muslim compassion after 9/11? We were treated to TV images of people in the middle east celebrating in the streets that 3000 Americans were dead.

AC is almost totally unknown. Look what happened to the Australian Liberty Alliance at the last election. Nobody heard of them because they were nice guys and got no media coverage. A few demos outside mosques and there would have been plenty of coverage.

You need to do a Trump and make the media cover you by saying controversial things or line up a new job post your parliamentary career.

Frankly I’m over the west being attacked by a bunch of barbarians who get kid glove special treatment, who have been let inside the gates by our political class who have denied their constituents a say via the normal political process and who are now jailing people for sharing information in NZ. How long before this happens in Australia?
Where is your and AC’s condemnation of this police state thuggery and also where is your condemnation of the physical assault on Fraser Anning and condemnation of the PM and Dutton’s call for Anning to be prosecuted. We now punish victims of assault? Funny really because they are doing EXACTLY what the Christchurch shooter said. To paraphrase, “it’s their fault for being there”. I guess Anning is at fault for merely being there?

Stick a fork in Australia, it’s done. Pity really. I used to think Argentina was where we would slide to but Venezuela seems more likely now.

Some things I’ve seen with my own eyes over the last few days:

    – There is a true blue bolshevik inspired wing in anglosphere politics that absolutely with all its heart does want to imprison, silence and kill anyone to the right of Malcolm Turnbull (who will get the Romanov treatment). They are absolute maniacs, I’d say they make up about 10% of the population and have decided that now is the time to move.

    – The NZ thing is simply not resonating with people the way the establishment wants it too. I’ve heard more real talk about muzzies in the last few days than ever before. The everyman’s heart has hardened, he laments violent bloodshed in all forms…but.

    – It’s easy to win public exchanges with the emboldened far left cranks by simply staying calm and bemused at their crazy antics and ideas. Remember that under the skin of every leftwing goon is a seething cauldron of personal inadequacy, hypocrisy, vast conspiracy theories, hatred of the Australian everyman and astounding ignorance. He wants to imprison and terrorsie most liberal and many labor voters. Use this.

    – On ignorance: years of gorging on Twitter, WAPO, NYTimes and being patronised and flattered by the pop-culture as well as cutting themselves off from the political right have left leftwing goons lazy and ignorant. They are ignorant of politics, history and world affairs and are easily blindsided by a real life opponent. They know all about political narratives (like a soap opera fan) but nothing about the mechanics of politics, and world affairs and the who the why and the where. Ask about what they know about the situation in the Phillipines and how that works in with their liberal voters are neo-nazis / muslim are a race angle. They are embarrassable.

Is there not the idea that if you are in hearing range of the muslim call to prayer, then you are automatically a muslim?

No, but if you fail to heed it you are a kufar.

In Islam one who fails to heed the call to prayer is revealing by their actions that they see no need to pray to Allah in the manner revealed to Mohammed, one of the pillars of Islam. That is tantamount to calling Mohammed a liar (takdhib in transliterated Arabic). This is one reason why Ardern’s call is very foolish.

    Been busy writing letters.

This one to my favourite show at the moment, Outsiders.

    Hello Rowan, and co

I love your show, the only show worth watching on television, in my opinion!

I am a right wing person, which means I believe in freedom of speech, free markets, personal responsibility, democracy, private ownership etc.
But it also means I’m not a collectivist, but an individualist.
I take people as I find them, and do not put them into categories or boxes based on physical appearances etc.
To be a racist, one first must be, a collectivist.
I am appalled at what the left wing MSM media and our political elite have done with the tragedy of Christchurch.

They banned the shooters manifesto and are now calling him a right wing extremist.
The problem is, the manifesto was on line too quickly and many know the truth, that he stated the exact opposite.
More closely aligned to communist China and an eco-fascist!

The left are now using this terrorist attack to close down websites and it won’t help your program at all, even though the right had, like usual, nothing to do with the violence.
It’s the old Hitler was right wing meme that has been allowed to poison minds.
Hitler was a socialist, just like the Anti semetic left are today.
Hitler controlled everything including the means of production, and I always laugh, and always shut lefties up, by asking them what made Hitler right wing in their eyes.
They always state, without fail, that he allowed private ownership of business.
They then like to tell me that Norway and European countries they consider socialist, are successful.
Those countries all have private ownership of business, so which is it?

Hitler was a white supremacist racist, that is for sure.
But there is no way on god’s green earth he was a right winger, and he wasn’t known as a right winger throughout and before ww2 .
Both my grand fathers went to war against a socialist, and that was their words.
He was your class A, typical left wing racist.
The race may change, the percentage of racial mix may change, but the lefty must always be in charge of racial mix.

If we don’t start fighting back against the “National Socialists were right wing propaganda”, we may as well kiss our arses goodbye.

If you wouldn’t mind, could you at least bring up on your show, the only show with true right wing conviction, the utter disgraceful lies of the left in calling the NZ shooter right wing.
I feel this is very important.

I love your work, and best of luck to you guys.

I never miss a second of your show, it’s the only sanity on television.

    Yours sincerely

I’m not sure they will disappear, but I do believe – and have been expressing this for some time – that they will fail to make much of an impact on the political landscape, for the reason that you and others have stated: a lack of public visibility.
Media attention needs to be demanded, not politely requested. It also does not need to take the form of symbolic stunts or novelties. Consider what the Malignant Media would get themselves all wet about. Political internecine conflict perhaps? Publicly differentiate yourselves from the Lieboral Party (forget them: they have nothing to offer you, and people who vote for you have done so because they did not want the fauxcon establishment zombies). Burn your bridges with them if any still exist. Declare publicly that the Lieborals have nothing to offer. Present yourselves as a strong, committed, alternative. It is one thing to not want to build a party around a personality, however what many of us are seeking is leadership. We respect a strong leader. There is no room in everyday politics for skulking in the corner and refusing to make eye contact. Step up to the biggest, ugliest bastard in the room, and tell them firmly that they and their mates have ten seconds to leave, because that room is yours now. Sure, it may not work, and you may get flattened, but I personally would respect you for showing courage.

Utter madness: University of Sydney researchers push to give plants and animal legal rights slammed

University of Sydney research probing into the “moral, legal and political status” of animals and the environment has been slammed as “out of touch”, prompting questions over who is funding the study.

A team of 14 university researchers studying “Multispecies Justice”, claim to explore rights for those that are “more than human” as part of the University of Sydney’s broader FutureFix program they themselves have dubbed as “counterintuitive”, as stated on their website.

“Justice is typically thought to be the preserve of humans, and advocacy has sought to ensure all humans are subjects of justice,” researchers wrote on the university’s website

“But harms inflicted on animals and the environment are coming to be understood as injustices.”

The 14 researchers claim they are working to reconceptualise justice to accommodate “the vast breadth of the multispecies world” in an issue the University deems is of “global importance”, according to the University of Sydney website.

Institute of Public Affairs Western Civilisation director Dr Bella d’Abrera said the project demonstrated the University was out of touch with real problems faced by Australians.

I believe it is vital that the Australian Conservatives differentiate themselves from the Liberals. Certainly the latter have more resources for an internecine conflict, however if the ACs were smart, they could work it to their advantage by positioning themselves as an alternative. They need to define the Libs as a threat, and work to neutralise that. One of my concerns about voting for and donating to the Australian Conservatives, is that I fear they will make deals with the Libs, and simply because a Liberal splinter party. There is no future in that. The Liberal Party has long been dead, and exists now only as a visual and auditory illusion, and as a nostalgic melancholy in older voters perhaps.

    Be decisive, Mr. Bernardi.

US judge halts hundreds of drilling projects in groundbreaking climate change ruling
In a rebuke of the Trump administration’s ‘energy-first’ agenda, a judge rules greenhouse gas emissions must be considered

The decision stems from an environmental lawsuit. WildEarth Guardians, Physicians for Social Responsibility, and the Western Environmental Law Center sued the BLM in 2016 for failing to calculate and limit the amount of greenhouse gas emissions from future oil and gas projects.

The agency “did not adequately quantify the climate change impacts of oil and gas leasing”, said Rudolph Contreras, a US district judge in Washington DC, in a ruling late on Tuesday. He added that the agency “must consider the cumulative impact of GHG [greenhouse gas] emissions” generated by past, present and future BLM leases across the country.

    Local News
Labor leader Michael Daley has been captured on video claiming that young people were leaving Sydney and being replaced by foreigners who were “moving in and taking their jobs”.

In the video, Mr Daley can be seen telling an audience at a pub in the Blue Mountains that a “transformation” was under way in Sydney and young workers were being replaced by Asian immigrants.

“Our young children will flee and who are they being replaced with? They are being replaced by young people from typically Asia with PhDs,” Mr Daley is heard saying in the video, now published on YouTube. “There’s a transformation happening in Sydney now where our kids are moving out and foreigners are moving in and taking their jobs. I don’t want to sound xenophobic, it’s not a xenophobic thing, it’s an economic question.”

Mr Daley was speaking at a politics-in-the-pub event in Wentworth Falls last September when he was deputy opposition leader. The Gazette did not attend the event. A man in the audience asked Mr Daley to clarify his comments because he was “deeply concerned” by them.

Mr Daley replied: “It’s just a statement of fact. Our young people are moving out of Sydney because they cannot afford to live here and they are being replaced by international workers.

“Most of those are from Asia – from China, from Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore. It’s not a bad thing because Asian kids are coming to work here, it’s a bad thing because I’d like my daughter to live in Maroubra rather than St Kilda.”

A spokesman for Mr Daley said he made the comments in the context of a discussion on “cost of living and housing affordability pressures on young people”.

Zali Steggall threatened with defamation proceedings by Advance Australia
    Ben James, Manly Daily
    March 21, 2019 2:00am
    Subscriber only

The Tony Abbott-supporting Advance Australia group is threatening defamation proceedings against independent Warringah candidate Zali Steggall over comments regarding the doctoring of her Wikipedia page.

The conservative lobby group has given Ms Steggall until 5pm on Thursday to retract comments the group alleges were “false and misleading”.

It relates to an interview Ms Steggall did with Channel Nine’s Today show host Georgie Gardiner where she was asked about opponents doctoring her Wikipedia page.

On the weekend of March 9 and 10 additions were made to her entry which included descriptions of her as a “men’s magazine model” and stated she had appeared nude and wearing lingerie in photoshoots.

When asked by Gardiner who she thought was responsible for the additions, Ms Steggall said: “There’s no doubt about it that it’s from an opponent’s point of view. So again, I wouldn’t want to point fingers at who it is, but we know Advance Australia are running ads where they are openly lying about my campaign platform, my position on policies.”

A spokesman for Advance Australia described her comments as “sloppy” and said Ms Steggall — who became a barrister after retiring from skiing — should know better.

“We represent 28,000 supporters from across the country and they expect us to maintain and protect the integrity of our movement,” the spokesman said.

Advance Australia has instructed the group’s legal representatives, Harpur Phillips, to send the warning letter to Ms Steggall.

“Your response to the questions ‘what’s your suspicion?’ clearly implies that Advance Australia made the changes to your Wikipedia page, and alleges that Advance Australia is dishonest in its dealings with the Australian voters,” the letter alleges.

“We are instructed that Advance Australia did not make any changes to your Wikipedia page, including the changes discussed in the interview.

I don’t care what muslims thought or think

We live by our standards, not theirs.

WE are the HOSTS who in good faith, welcome them and go out of our way to make them feel a part of our community.
THEY are the GUESTS who, having been invited into our ‘home’ DEMAND that the Host-Guest relationship be converted to a Conqueror-Conquered relationship. The good faith of the Host was not reciprocated by the Guest, whose intention has been the voluntary granting of access via the side gate, so that the front gate need not be assaulted (resulting in loss to the attacker). The GUEST THREATENS the HOST and demands a respect they have not shown to the host.
The GUEST has ABROGATED the commonly known and agreed-upon responsibilities and expectations of the Host-Guest relationship. The SOCIAL CONTRACT has been BROKEN, and the breaker of the contract, the GUEST, has forfeited any benefits that the contract had promised or implied, including a the benefit of social acceptance and high standing within the broader community.

Numbers – If you move to Russia you can learn to fire a machine gun!

My wife was born in Russia and as children at school (during the cold war), they had hand grenade throwing practice using ‘grenades’ made from wood that were the size/shape of the real thing. They would go to a park or other vacant area with a teacher, throw the ‘grenade’ and then duck for ‘cover’.

I have no doubt she would have enjoyed machine gun practice had it been available.

Agreed. However I think there needs to be more importance placed on the positions of the stakeholders, rather than their backgrounds. This would negate, to a small extent, the IslamoFAUXbia accusations. As GUESTS in their homes/society/culture/countries, we would not expect to be able to insult, denigrate, demand change to, or physically assault, our HOST, without enduring a consequence for breaking the unwritten social contract in the HOST-GUEST RELATIONSHIP.

For those think that I wish to detract from Islam being incompatible with our culture as a method of appeasement: NO. Consider the approach referred to above as a means to neutralise the screams, demands and shout-downs of those who ARE the appeasers and enablers. Have a think about it. Whether we like it or not, these people were here at her own invitation too.

She was politically wise to not make a deliberate show of offending Muslim feelings on their own turf at such a time of grief. As well, she was displaying a level of common humanity that was appreciated by many, especially those who voted for her policies, but also others. It is the follow-on from this disaster that requires the solid thinking and which carries much greater import than the immediate and humane response re a hijab. Mr Dalgleish said buyers such as supermarkets purchasing finished lambs direct off-farm were “aware of the impending tightening of lamb supplies”, contributing to the prices they were willing to pay.

Meat and Livestock Australia market analyst Alex McIntosh said the trade lamb indicator had been around the 650c/kg mark for some time, with the stability largely due to the consistency of lamb supply, despite the difficult season.

But, a supply shortage was expected “at some point, it is very difficult to say when”, Mr McIntosh said.

Meanwhile, over-the-hooks lamb indicators were trading at around a 20c/kg premium to saleyard prices, however, most categories had eased during the past fortnight.

The current high sheep slaughter rates were likely to cut into lamb supplies in coming months, as well as poor scanning results.
