More like the Dark Ages

With education the way it is, neither the cartoon nor this story will any longer have meaning and resonance: Venezuela returns to ‘Middle Ages’ during power outages.

“We make lamps that burn gasoline, or oil, or kerosene — any type of fuel,” explained Lizbeth Morin, 30.

“We’ve returned to the Middle Ages.”

They have gasoline, oil and kerosene so hardly mediaeval. It is instead late nineteenth century, time travellers back about 150 years, but that is insane enough since they brought it on themselves. Unenlightened self-delusion in the form of Democratic Socialism – that is, in the form of politically-sanctioned theft. Could happen anywhere.

Any politician who will not say the words, “capitalism and the free market are good – socialism is bad”, should never be elected. If they will not say these words, they are themselves mediaeval, wishing to return us to the days of an aristocracy and their dependent serfs.

In the war of memes the Left are just not cutting it. I like the orange man bad reference on the modern guy.

  2. NB

People voted for socialism, and they have it!
I am not sure why they complain.

That cartoon is the funniest and yet most accurate I’ve seen in quite some time.

It’s right up there with the meme about the kiddies wanting to start a revolution, only to have someone point out to them they couldn’t start a lawnmower.

Those voting for the nightmare of socialism are the least equipped to survive the result.

  5. Venezuela also shows us what going full renewables is likely to achieve.

And as I predicted the blackouts are not being blamed on incompetence/malfeance. The line I saw on the news last night was as I predicted blamed on the US

Any politician who will not say the words, “capitalism and the free market are good

Politicians will not declare capitalism is good because they believe their audience (and possibly themselves*) think ‘capitalism’ is equivalent to ‘greed’.

A lot of people accept that the “greed is good” speech in the movie Wall Street represents the argument for capitalism (and remember, this was the bad guy making this speech). Once they have determined not to accept that then capitalism is unacceptable.

*In general politicians’ personalities are so attenuated and wispy that nothing of substance experiences any resistance as it shoots through – so their souls can properly be ignored. Their intelligence is unsubstantial.

BTW, I believe there was nowhere near as much war as people believe of the middle ages.

One of the less agreeable traits of the Renaissance mind was intellectual pride, and they liked to belittle their forbears by depicting them as ignorant, superstitious, sickly and stunted. Essentially the opposite of what they loved in themselves. They saw themselves as the dawn – a dawn that would be more splendid as the preceding night was blacker.

Successive generations have joined in heaping scorn on the middle ages even as they know almost nothing factual about them.

The Reformation clinched it by viewing the Mediaeval world as Catholic, and therefore by default saturated in any calumny they could heap on it. The reformation was not an intellectual movement so the abuses were the mental equivalent of the storming of churches and benighted wanton destruction of art.

And so it is to this day.

The mighty and most equitable Lord Marx has written thus: Darkness is the one and true equity.

We must all strive to bring forth the Darkness and banish divisive light. Even the candle must ultimately be surrendered.

The way it works is that the urban, NPC “footsoldiers” who will be doing the bidding of their puppet-masters, robbing and murdering REAL people, will, in the time-honoured way, be the first up against the wall when it’s over. Then, when there are not enough NPCs and slaves left to make everything work, the whole thing will steadily collapse and the rotting mess will be “liberated” by another expansionist power.

As per the cryptic Biblical, “Wheels within wheels”.

I’m not sure being in a nursing home makes you equipped to survive anything, let alone a brownout.

I doubt many Venezuelans are falling for the US sabotage lines any more.

    Only the completely delusional.

Saw footage of the opposition & government marches, they looked about the same size, so there are plenty of deluded souls

Who is there that has the profile to, in Australia, to start mounting the arguments and explaining how the real world works to the population so they will be capable of more informed opinions?

Our politicians are busy about their own political neuroses, indifferent to how much they ruin the future as long as they remain in office this week. And our j’ism class are breathtakingly ill-informed and as utterly devoted to their ignorance as their egos can make them.

It seems to me we need to get some other ‘memes’ in circulation. They don’t have to be ‘the last word’ on topics – let their contrariness to what currently passes for wisdom create its own momentum.

Politicians are not suddenly going to become principled or advocates of freedom, and journos (by and large) are not going to suddenly admit that they do not know everything.

A few people like Bolta are placed to launch a few of these.

    E.g.

Less than half of Australia’s population thinks AGW is a major issue, and yet almost 100% of politicians treat it as if it is.

Politicians are supposed to implement the people’s will. Instead they have imagined another Australia and they are imposing this on us. When they pass laws that restrict our freedoms they have failed.

Businesses get money when they give people what they want. When they stop businesses making money it means we cannot get what we want.

There will likely be some room for contention – some freedoms may be impacted by protecting other freedoms. Similarly crony businesses help themselves at the expense of the rest of us. But they contain a heterodox insight that people need to be aware of.

It has always been instructional to me that those who have lived under true socialism (or communism) are usually rabidly anti-socialist (or anti-communist) when given the opportunity to relocate to a democratic society or otherwise speak out. In their past experiences they have seen what actually happens, they understand the shortages, they have seen the corruption, the strict application of laws of compliance, the seizure of property, media censorship, Government leering into every aspect of your life……

That anyone would voluntarily want to live under anything approaching these conditions is bewildering. Yet, the march towards the initial ‘soft’ socialism continues in many western countries. Even the USA is not entirely immune with the election of Occasional Cortex. Or, that Bernie Sanders, a self proclaimed socialist, could have even been considered a Presidential candidate is bizarre. In fairness, the USA will be a hard nut to crack and will likely, with a few of the former USSR satellite countries, be the last holdouts against the socialist advance.

But make no mistake – the Left are playing a long game and they will not be sated until socialism is embedded and western democratic society is destroyed. Ironically, “those voting for the nightmare of socialism are the least equipped to survive the result“. Couldn’t agree more.

That anyone would voluntarily want to live under anything approaching these conditions is bewildering.

In my experience there is typically one of two components:

Vanity: The ones who see themselves as the natural elite. There have been problems before when it has been tried elsewhere that ultimately boil down to them not being there to impose their intellectual stamp. No one who dreams of socialism as a political thing imagines they will be a factory worker, and in fairness they usually don’t. Instead they end up standing, shivering in a tiled cellar with a single crackling light bulb and single drain ringed by a black crust, expecting that explosive noise they know they will in fact never hear. But they need to mobilise a demographic so they cultivate and preach…

Envy: People who have been convinced by the ‘vanity’ type that they are entitled to everything other people have. They were right! Other people have been keeping things back from them. They can have it all! Live in a beachside mansion! Drive a Mercedes! Drink champagne (which they hate) while watching the footy. Cook a BBQ with solid gold tongs. Socialism is the right ‘-ism’ for them! They know it will work.

Just tried to access Blazing Cat Fur via Optus and was blocked. Bugger that! Having asked fellow Cats for their VPN appraisals a couple of weeks ago, just now signed up to NordVPN ($107 for three years) and it works a treat. BCF loaded as per the pre-Christchurch norm.

The first mystery: why did our corporate betters decided BCF was verboten?

The second: why do Australians habitually put up with being treated like children?
