Alice Weidel, German politician talking sense on Brexit

Alice Weidel is a the Leader of the Alternative for Germany Party in the Bundestag since October 2017. She sounds like a good egg and she is of course described as far right and hated by the left. She suggested that the EU should be reformed or Germany should leave as well.

The speech has subtitles, these are notes. The speech is simply brilliant and not long, the notes don’t add much, go to the subtitles.

0:19 Chancellor Merkel had just given a speech about the upcoming European Council summit in Brussels.

0:26 Valerian is a herb that helps you fall asleep.

1:18 In February 2016 (4 months before the Brexit referendum) David Cameron went to the EU looking for concessions regarding Britain’s relationship with the EU, he got little in return.

3:33 The 1963 Élysée Treaty established stronger links between France and Germany. The 2019 Aachen Treaty was intended as a renewal / deepening of this treaty.

4:07 Qualified voting in the EU: decisions need a yes vote from 55% of the 28 members AND 65% of the population.

5:27 Barnier said this in 2016, according to French magazine Le Point.

6:07 The AfD’s position is that first the EU needs to be reformed, and if those reforms are not possible should Germany leave. [looks like a glitch in translation]

Date of speech: Thursday, 21st March

EU has reached its use by date.

  2. mh

Germany should be invaded and occupied by Poland, Hungary, and the Czech Republic.

  3. Dr Fred Lenin

Mh , ‘the invaders woukd probably find many Germs woukd collaborate with them , the sensible ones are heartily sick of the polliemuppets of the EU ,perhaps they should inade the UK to implement Brexit , there again many people would support them .

    @mh:

I doubt any of those countries would like to occupy Germany, if it meant taking on the million plus recent ‘migrants’.
They are more likely just to build a wall.

    A good speech.
And quite a telling point when she outlines the billion dollar black holes UK exit would cause as well as the loss of the minority veto which might see Germanies biggest nightmare, Greece style spending.

  6. Beachcomber

And yet she still seems to think the the EU can be a good thing if it is reformed. WRONG. WRONG. WRONG. It is an irredeemable Soviet Union style Merkelite global socialist tyranny. Western Europe is forked.

Rees-Mogg has tweeted this speech – and been attacked by BBC for linking to a … right … racist… islamophobia… etc etc.

She may _sound_ like a Good Egg Rafe, but few who follow German politics from any viewpoint within the traditional bounds of liberal/conservative discourse would agree that her party is. They range from the distinctly unpleasant nationalists to the full range of racists, fascists and the like.

Rather like UKIP, the founders – Eurosceptic right-wingers, politicians and academics – have walked away (and now sit in the European Parliament with the UK Conservatives as ‘Liberal Conservative Reformers’) as it was infiltrated by an altogether unpleasant group of nationalists.

  9. Pyrmonter

(on the background to her party: https://blogs.lse.ac.uk/europpblog/2017/03/11/the-strange-case-of-afd/. Lucke is a rather better egg than her)

Not sure that what she is proposing is what the British want. The biggest issues with Brexit are free movement of people with EU countries, immigration quotas and above all the Irish border.

She has discussed none of this. Instead she talks about club med states, which, ironically are themselves unhappy with Brussels.

I’ve been going to this site of blog posting catching on. It takes significantly less time to follow a link and read a transcript than to hear a speech out. I want expecting a20 second scroll to catch all the key points, but i do know i would be cynical if i wasn’t already familiar with some of your summaries.

    MH /pyromonter
Austria, Hungary, the entire middle and Eastern Europe are looking at a trading block outside of the EU.
It’s the Austrian Hungarian Empire and Jagellion Empires combined with out the Med countries involvement. Question is will it be Vienna or Vilnius as the hub.
Finally you mention nasty nationalist – what about nasty commies who kill people for no reason . Why is violence by u ions and .socialistsbin Oz encouraged and defence against this violence as the perpetrator.

  13. Beachcomber

It’s the Austrian Hungarian Empire and Jagellion Empires ….

Yes it seems that the Polish-Hungarian-Austrian alliance is forming again; to defend themselves against the Marxist EU hegemony and repel the Merkel mozlem invasion.

What a crock of BS! Parroting the BBC Marxist establishment media slanders.

It really irks you Marxist establishment elites to see any nasty ‘nationalists’ in parliament. Heaven forbid!
