After reading his coffee thread yesterday….Phrasing !!

  2. Some History

    Repeat.

Anthony Albanese has become the new leader of the Australian Labor Party.

Now being head of the Labor Camp, “Albo” will just no longer do. He needs a name more befitting a leader like, say, Albodross.

European elections result UK: Brexit Party STORMS to victory as Farage CRUSHES rivals

NIGEL Farage struck fear into the heart of the British political establishment as early results from the European elections showed him polling as much as 40 percent of the vote in some areas – even higher than the most bullish predictions.

The Brexit Party took 38 percent, versus 23 percent for the second place Liberal Democrats, in the East of England.

In the North West of England region the Brexit Party stormed to the lead taking two of the regions three MEPs, with Labour picking up the third.

Wales saw another Brexit Party win on 33 percent of the vote, with the nationalist Plaid Cymru in second place ahead of Labour.

The Brexit Party also stormed to the lead in South-East England, taking four seats with 36 percent of the vote. … In the South West the Brexit Party took 36 percent of the vote, with the Liberal Democrats following on 23 percent.

    Abandoned on the dead fred…

    Interesting…

The EU liyterally has the “uniparty” in charge.

The grand coalition of left and right is set to lose its 40-year majority: the European People’s party and the Socialists & Democrats are on course to share 44% of the total seats. The centre right did well in Austria, while socialists topped the list in Spain, Portugal and – to some surprise – the Netherlands.

  10. Don’t make yourself out as some sort of anomaly.

Par for the course for those pig-ignorant, self-serving, selfish pricks.

  12. What garbage. What complete garbage. No-one but no-one carried grenades in their pack

Bullshit. Not everyone behaved like 5 RAR (fortunately).
We were charged if we carried our grenades on our basic webbing, after an incident when someone in (I think) 1 RAR jumped of a truck and had the pin pulled out of the grenade by a fitting on the truck.
It killed him and seriously wounded two others. We were expected to stow them (taped) in the top side pockets of our packs.
    Johno has a real problem.
He seems to believe that every unit in Vietnam operated in exactly the same way as his.
    Thank Christ they didn’t.
5 RAR must have been a shower of shit at some stage, because when we took over their lines on arrival at the Dat, and did some burning off to clean the place up, discarded ordinance would go off now and again. We also found grenades under the floorboards of their tents. They were obviously slack when it came to care and stowage of ammunition.
5 RAR apparently was Johno’s unit.
    ‘Nuff said…..
We were allowed to carry grenades in our ammunition pouches provided they were taped. Problem with this was, we were also expected to carry at least six full mags in these same pouches, so if you personal weapon was an SLR, it didn’t leave much room for grenades.
After the first op, we carried far fewer grenades, as they weren’t used in any of the contacts we had. The M79 was a much better proposition. We did use the SLR mounted launcher, but gave it away after a digger was killed in an ambush when he fired a normal round (rather than the special grenade launching round) into a grenade mounted on the spigot for the purpose.
The launcher used ballistite cartridges (with a crimped neck and no projectile, obviously).

  22. Mater

You most certainly are, by clear and direct inference. Two years (or even one year – which was what most Nashos served) is not long – but service induced injury has nothing to do with length of service.

    Hmmmm.

“Whether in war or peace, the military is a dangerous profession, and longer service brings greater risk of serious injury. According to the survey, those who served 10 years or more are twice as likely as those who served two years or less to suffer a service-related serious injury (16% vs. 7%).”

All grenades were taped and carried on webbing Standard procedure in 5RAR,6RAR and 8RAR.All units I served with.I suspect that 7RAR have only discovered they had to carry grenades in packs today so Sniffy’s bullshit won’t be discovered.
As to the slur that 5RAR were a shower of shit. My Rifle Coy, D5 were the most decorated Rifle Coy to serve in SVN.
We used grenades quite extensively. You apparently did not see much action.
Lock and load that one into your bullshit memory. Fraud and a dork.

  25. Tekweni

Numbers, why don’t you just go away. You have nothing of sense to contribute and those of us who served in the military don’t live in the past trying to relive their experiences on this blog. So you carried an SLR. Whoopee! You are not the only one. You are just boring.

Did anyone see this YouTube video of Bari Weiss, a staff editor for the NYTimes opinion page?

She got absolutely DEMOLISHED when she tried to push a narrative about a US politician but instead only revealed her complete lack of knowledge.

    Highlights include:

Bari Weiss: (naming potential Dem candidates against Trump in 2020) Kamala ((Harris)), Kirsten Gellibrand..
    Joe Rogan: Tulsi Gabbard..
BW: *scoff loudly* Monst… ..-rous.. ideas
    JR: Why?
    BW: She’s an Assad toadie..
JR: What does that mean? What’s a toadie?
BW: I think I used that word correctly… Jimmie can you check what toadie means..

*writes for the NYTimes as a staff option editor*
*Doesn’t know what the word ‘toadie’ means*

    Where.
    The.
    Fuck.
    Do.
    I.
    Start…

but it gets better (or worse…):

BW: (spelling out ‘TOADIE’ for the producer to google the definition) A-D-I-E..
    JR: What does it mean?
BW: I think it means what I think it means..

    *insert Picard-facepalm-gif-meme here*

But wait!! There’s more (and it’s glorious in just how much worse it becomes):

    BW: Yeah it’s prov-… that’s… it’s known about her
JR: Where did she say that?
    BW: I don’t remember the details… I read it somewhere…
JR: Well wait a minute, before we say that we should probably read it..
BW: Well I have read it

BW: I think she’s like the motherlode of bad ideas… I’m pretty positive about that.. but maybe I’m wrong..

The best description of this woman, which can then also be applied to the ENTIRE leftwing MSM, comes a little later where she is described as being “SMUGNORANT”…
(I am so stealing that term from now on, btw)

I can’t even list the rest of how bad this went for this woman… and believe me, no matter how bad the above was already… it got WORSE…

Just watch and be amazed at just how much of a trainwreck her appearance was on the Joe Rogan podcast, and how Jimmy Dore and his fellow comedian/commentators just absolutely take her to town..

Australia’s obsession with cheap solar is derailing the market, insiders say

Rooftop solar industry veterans say Australia has become a dumping ground for poor-quality solar products and some are questioning the regulatory oversight of household rooftop solar installers and products

    Key points:
-An audit found 1.2 per cent of rooftop solar installations have been inspected by the Clean Energy Regulator
-The regulator’s inspections found one in six solar installations were “substandard”, and about one in 30 were “unsafe”
Based on the sample, the audit found there would be tens of thousands of “unsafe” installations

Anthony Albanese reaches out to PM on climate, constitutional recognition

    Richard Ferguson

Anthony Albanese has reached out to Scott Morrison for deals on climate change and constitutional recognition of Indigenous Australians in his first outing as Opposition Leader.

The new Labor leader who often talks of “fighting Tories” said today he would be “no Tony Abbott” and would not rush to announce his policies before the 2022 election.

Elected unopposed to lead the Opposition today, Mr Albanese warned the Prime Minister he would hold him to account but signalled a softer approach on energy and other issues compared to Bill Shorten.

“I say to him that I will hold his government to account, strongly, forcefully. I am a values

    politician,” he said.

“But I also say this to Scott Morrison – I’m not Tony Abbott. People want solutions, not arguments. They have conflict fatigue.

“Our nation is diminished by not recognising first Australians in our constitution. And while Indigenous Australians are the most disadvantaged in our nation. Labor stands ready to cooperate on how we advance the agenda of the Uluru statement.

“Climate change is real, we must act … But the time for the ongoing conflict over these issues surely is over.”

Anthony Albanese has refused to give a position on the Adani coal mine, but says he intends to go to Queensland tomorrow in an effort to build relationships with people who didn’t vote Labor on May 18.

Mr Albanese claimed he would be “no Tony Abbott” in his first outing as Opposition Leader today and said he would reach out to Scott Morrison for deals on climate change and constitutional recognition of Indigenous Australians.

But the new Labor leader would not reveal his position on the Adani mine, despite the damage the issue did to the party in north and central Queensland electorates.

“We will go through in terms of our processes, all of those issues, but the truth is that the Adani coal mine has been approved at the federal level by the [Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act]. It’s been approved not just once, it’s been approved twice. It is going through Queensland government approvals,” he said.

“And then there is the other issue with regard to Adani and indeed to the whole issue of the Galilee Coal Basin is the issue of the economics of it. The basic cost benefit ratios.”

Mr Albanese said one thing he didn’t support was the government subsidising a railway line for the mine.

I read on Twitter that Albo criticised ScoMo for not appointing Bishop US Ambassador. I cannot, however, find a source confirming he did so.
If he did, that’s some pretty batshit crazy notion right there. Aside from being useless, her recent insult to Melanie would have ruled her out, even had she been in the running.
I’m so glad she resigned her spot. She only did so expecting Libs to lose. No doubt she’ll blame others for that mistake.

I’ll bet IT’s left knacker (the good one) that Bishop had a wink and a nod from Schorten that she would be plonked into a cosy role somewhere.

Watching British SkyNews. Hot spots of the World: Caracas, Venezuela. Piece on the riots, and then the blackout, and how terrible it all was, but not a mention anywhere of the word ‘socialism’. Just one specially selected woman saying the new hopeful leader was ‘marvelous, just like Obama’. All the problems presented as due to the current government, ‘not a good one’, doing ‘poor management’.

Sickening report, no wonder socialism still keeps rising, the many-headed hydra. No-one gets told about how bad it is until people die, brutal repression takes over, and even then, the milk-faced typically leftie ‘concerned’ SkyNews lot descend to tell viewers firstly, how brave they are to be there, and secondly, that things (they don’t say what) must now change to improve people’s lives. And that someone like Obama is the answer is the agenda these TV nitwits set for others and live by themselves.

    From the last thread:

Elliotte Frankie was one of the Royal Military College’s most promising pupils, on the fast-track for success and glory, when she was given a new pair of boots …

Yeah right. Of course she was. (Is glory still encouraged in the 21st century ADF?)

I was going to. But I took a step and crumbled. I sunk into the grooves of the carpet in her office, my dignity leaving me as tears poured from my eyes.

    Ah yes, the modern ‘soldier’.

I was training to be an officer at The Royal Military College in Canberra (RMC). Once graduated, I was to be a lieutenant, in charge of up to 30 personnel in a certain speciality: engineering, signals, infantry.

Looks like the army dodged a bullet with this numpty.

I did well during training so was selected to be part of an exchange program in New Zealand, where I was to graduate … But it didn’t faze me; I was a masochist when it came to physical training … and I was compared to a regular person — not the athlete I was prior to joining …

Fuck I’m Good Just Ask Me.

I became mentally unsound, and in an 18-month period, I have about six months of missing memories.

My relationship with my family and some close friends suffered, and still now, I don’t have them back.

All because of boots, three sizes too big.

Imagine what combat what do to her?

In total, I saw four doctors, every nurse available, two sports specialists, six psychologists, two psychiatrists, two pain specialists, six bosses, countless of their superiors, three military chaplains, my close friends and my family … “It’s so good that you got medically discharged: free money and free healthcare!”… My free money was helpful, though … I often made jokes I wasn’t the one paying, the army was, to ease the shame of receiving “incapacity payments” without ever wearing the uniform in a real-time capacity.

Yeah, let’s get more women in the military. Seems like you get plenty of bang for the buck.

    Not sure what this signifies

Perhaps because he would have to admit guilt in asking for his punishment to be reduced.

  170. Stackja:

When Carr declared Welcome Reef would not be built, it seems he tried to make sure no future government could reverse his decision. He locked up 6000ha of the land that had been set aside for the dam and declared it a national park.

Carr can go root his boot.
Declare it a water retaining area.
What’s so bloody hard about it?
Or is it just an excuse for the other team to sit on their arses and do nothing about water storage?

All grenades were taped and carried on webbing Standard procedure in 5RAR,6RAR and 8RAR.All units I served with.I suspect that 7RAR have only discovered they had to carry grenades in packs today so Sniffy’s bullshit won’t be discovered.

What that signifies C.L. is that Pell is maintaining his innocence. He is simply appealing the conviction of guilty. He’s not going to appeal the sentence and ask for three years instead of 6 I mean why should you if you’re innocent you shouldn’t be in jail in the first place. The fact that Pell is in jail is an absolute utter disgrace and I have not forgotten Morris is weasel words about that either.

  173. Mater

I recall when I was in the army there were a few diggers in the same boat. There’s not much than can be done for them. They really shouldn’t be in the army.

Much like flat feet. It is what it is.

I would assess that the majority of her issues comes from her obvious narcissism (the story is full of it). When such people find they are unable to cope (or at least struggle) with the rigours of Officer training, they find it almost impossible to admit it to family and friends, whom held such high hopes. The obvious out is to claim either bullying and/or injury. After all, being such a superstar, her failure couldn’t have been caused by anything but an outside influence.

For such a confident lass, the sudden realisation of her short comings would play havoc on her mental state.

    Seen it lots.

It’s extremely rare to see anyone leave under the pretence that it was just too hard for them.

Developed shin splints, like most grunts do to one degree or another if you spend enough time with a pack. Three sizes too big my arse. You got all ouchy walking around because you weren’t up to it.

More from jupes link a 3:31 re the army compo malingerer …

There were days where I couldn’t walk and a good six months where I never hit REM sleep, which is when your body and mind repair.

    Yeah, nah.
Firstly, there is no way for an individual to self-assess whether they have been in REM sleep or not.
If someone physically observed you very closely, they might pick up some basic signs, but the only way to analyse this for sure is to be wired up to a brain monitor.
Secondly, the claim that REM sleep is somehow more healing or restorative than normal sleep is hippie-shit. Sounds good, but no basis in fact.

My pee turned brown, my body suffered the shakes regularly, and I couldn’t recognise my reflection.

I can fake or replicate every one of those symptoms at will.
She is your classic Section 8 malingerer, but no-one dare call her out.
Meanwhile, a bunch of SAS guys are going to cop it for disrespecting dead Tally-bans.

    ‘Your Mum’s not a judge.’

    And she’s tone deaf.

  183. As to the slur that 5RAR were a shower of shit. My Rifle Coy, D5 were the most decorated Rifle Coy to serve in SVN.

Johno has a very casual approach to historical fact. He believes that “close enough” is “good enough”.
This is scarcely important, except that he invariably abuses me when I post any reference to incidents in Vietnam.
According to available records, here is a list of honours from another rifle company (D Coy 6 RAR) –
Distinguished Service Order (DSO) – Brigadier David Jackson and Lieutenant Colonel Colin Townsend
Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) – Captain Maurice ‘Morrie’ Stanley (NZ)
Military Cross (MC) – Major Harry Smith
Distinguished Conduct Medal (DCM) – Warrant Officer 2 Jack Kirby and Corporal J. Carter
Military Medal (MM) – Sergeant Bob Buick and Private Ron Eglington
Mentioned in Dispatches (MID) – Lieutenant Adrian Roberts (Cavalry – not 6 RAR), Second Lieutenant Geoff Kendall, Second Lieutenant Dave Sabben, Warrant Officer 2 Jack Roughley, Corporal Phil Dobson, Corporal W.R. Moore and Private Bill Akell.

Note that this list is derived from one encounter (Long Tan) where my school mate Frank Topp was killed. I haven’t bothered to check citations for D Coy 6 RAR on other tours.

Now here is the list from D Coy 5 RAR for both tours. Note this information is taken from 5 RAR’s website. Not all honours citations identify the rifle company involved, but unless the 5 RAR website is wrong, D Coy 5 RAR is demonstrably not “the most decorated rifle company to serve in SVN” –
Military Cross (MC) – Major Murray Phillip Blake (also MID) and 2nd Lieutenant Dennis Claude Rainer
Medal for Gallantry (MG) – Private John Douglas Campbell Burridge
Distinguished Conduct Medal (DCM) – Sergeant Brian Kent London
Military Medal (MM) – Pte Franck Fitch
Mentioned in Dispatches (MID) – Sergeant Robert George Armitage, Second Lieutenant Robert Anthony Fenwick and Private Laurence Victor Lewis

This has the same mythical flavour as “every National Serviceman who fought in Vietnam was a volunteer”.
Remember, Johno, I’m waiting for you to apologise and declare your bona fides so I can organise a structured questionnaire for the Nashos at your reunion.
These are all well deserved awards for brave men, but I’m interested only in the facts of history, not mythology. The truth honours these men. Mythology dishonours them.
