Calli, no word yet on the judgment in Pell v. R.

Usually they are done within a couple of months. No idea how efficient the Vic appeals court is.

I think it is completely impossible for any reasonable person to say he is guilty without reasonable doubt.

You can believe the victim but still have strong doubts about veracity of story given all the unlikelihood’s that needed to fall into place, let alone ignore the testimony of the Monsignor who was with him the whole time.

Non-church goers don’t (or don’t want to) appreciate how a cardinal giving mass is treated like a rock star – eyes on him the whole time, people swarming to greet him when over etc.

    It. Just. Did. Not. Happen.

A professor of philosophy and has some connection with an art gallery.

En tour. Not quite a professor but a pony tailed philosophy student from Amsterdam. An enraged Cape Buffalo had already brought down our guide, who managed to fire but one shot, which may have glanced off its horn and temporarily clouded its malign attitude. Once the beast had regathered its composure, it took off after the junior philosopher. The latter in full flight with hundreds of kinetic kilos in splenetic pursuit. Twenty or so minutes later the spent ruminator returned having discovered in a few minutes the true meaning of life.

After bumping into a few people that picked me from the cat a while back,[ positive feedback] i learned to be more discrete with personal anecdotes and times and places.

Being just a prole from nowhere that matters i have nothing to lose, but some of the people i know do alright from State contracts and services to godless commo oligarchs and cartels.

The Tryant’s chicom secret police could sell an artificial intelligence program to the australian stasi anytime soon that could identify and dox all dissenters, so we can expect that once available it will be used.

It would probably be better to consider using in real life identity now to incentivise discretion, but not as satisfying.

U.S. to Send 1,000 More Troops to Mideast

The U.S. said it would send an additional 1,000 troops to the Mideast in response to “hostile behavior” by Iran.
U.S. military officials said the additional troops will help provide security and intelligence in the region amid heightened tensions over a series of attacks on oil tankers in the Gulf of Oman. Washington has blamed Iran for the attacks. Tehran has denied any involvement.

I really don’t understand this argument some people make that ‘hey, we can believe the [so-called] victim and acknowledge his sincerity but, yeah, this didn’t happen.’

No, you can’t believe him and no he isn’t sincere.
The only things you can say are … 1) he’s a sane liar; or 2) he’s ill.
Ergo: if Pell is acquitted, his accuser should be subjected to a thorough and ruthless investigation.
We need to see all of his medical records, for a start.

My instinct has always been that this bloke needed a royal flush of sympathy to offset something he has done and was assisted in doing so by a psychologist who co-crafted a ‘recovered’ narrative from his boyhood brush with fame as a choirboy.

Starting this week, Beyond Meat is selling a new “meatier” version of its Beyond Burger that the company says is a source of complete protein and both looks and tastes more like real meat.

The new burger uses a combination of coconut oil and cocoa to imitate the look and taste of “marbling,” the white, fatty specks you get in meat that contribute to its rich flavor. The burger also new uses apple extract so that it browns more as it’s cooking.

Although the burger contains the same 20 grams of protein as before, its pea, mung bean, and rice protein combination means that it’s now a source of “complete protein,” containing each of the nine amino acids that are necessary in a human diet. Complete protein can be tricky to get without resorting to meat or other animal-derived foods like milk and cheese, but Beyond Meat’s products are all vegan. They also use a time-honored tradition for vegetarian complete protein: beans and rice.

The new burger has been developed as part of what Beyond Meat refers to as its “rapid and relentless” development process. In a Vergecast interview due to be released later today, Beyond Meat CEO Ethan Brown says that this development process is designed “to try to make the product that you just bought obsolete as quick as we can.”

“As much as I love to hear that you know you’ve gone out to buy [our existing burger], part of me cringes because I know that I have a product here that’s so much better than that,” Brown says.

Beyond Meat, and its main meat-free burger competitor Impossible Foods, have both enjoyed enormous success this year. Beyond Meat’s sales tripled last quarter, and the company expects to break even this year. Meanwhile, Impossible Foods is now selling its Impossible Burger in Burger Kings nationwide, and both company’s burgers are available in a wide range of other burger chains. There have been growing pains however, The Wall Street Journal recently reported that both companies are now struggling to meet demand for their burgers.

Beyond Meat’s new burger is available starting this week in stores including Whole Foods, Kroger, Safeway, Publix, Wegmans, Target, and Sprouts. Look out for a small red label on its packaging that reads “Now Even Meatier,” to make sure you’re getting the new burger.

Heard a tale of the AFL this morning from a medical professional.

At the football drinking a container of that well known beverage coca cola he was approached by a behaviour monitor who claimed he was suspected of consuming alcohol (on absolutely no grounds whatsoever) who demanded to sniff said container .

Be my guest good sire said my acquaintance.

Naturally no alcohol was detected and as the container was nigh empty acquaintance asked if the behaviour monitor would be so kind as to dispose of said sniffed container.

Much (expected) offence taken and an attempt was made to throw said acquaintance out of the ground.

Thwarted, a behaviour monitor posse formed and remained vigilant nearby until the end of the game hoping for some infraction that would warrant an ejection.

General and gratuitous opinion offered, the AFL wish to quash the punters calling out appalling umpire decisions under changed rules (not my area of expertise) so any criticism of umpires is jumped on.

They will not rest until the crowed observe complete silence for the duration of the game.

The fights that still occur after the game outside the ground of course are of no interest to the AFL.

CL, you can believe a witness is truthful to the extent they have that belief themselves, but disagree that their version is correct.

EG a witness to a car accident says the red car was at fault for not stopping at a stop light, but the cars involved are clearly not red – i.e. they mistakenly recalled the colour wrong.

Here, you could believe this witness has a memory of an event they firmly believe is true, but have the date wrong, the time wrong, the parties wrong or some other fact wrong. You could argue they are doing their best to be truthful, but in fact are total liars compared with the truth.

I accept here it is a accept it or not situation – for some though who have trouble believing the fellow is lying, there is a way to say he is not deliberately lying, but still mistaken.

In the McDonalds Monopoly lawsuit the Federal Judge had 18 witnesses who claimed they were given old winning tickets simply say they were mistaken and had not lied under oath.

For myself, the witness cannot be accepted as truthful based on other evidence. Not even a need for reasonable doubt.

CL, you can believe a witness is truthful to the extent they have that belief themselves, but disagree that their version is correct.

Except in this case there is no disagreement about the exact details of an encounter, there was no encounter. How can you believe a ‘version’ of something that never even remotely happened, there was no invasion of the sacristy, no wine swigging, no nothing. the entire story was created out of whole cloth.

Which is why Cardinal Pell will return to his. for legal purposes, unblemished state of innocence.

I suspect it is much like the case of Br Tyrrell where a chancer thought he could spin a yarn to get his hands on some money and was subsequently greatly encouraged by a couple of women with skin in the game and police and prosecutors who are required to treat the most ridiculous accusations as absolutely bona fide (don’t forget Belinda Wallington threw out one claim of satanic abuse because it was too rich even for her). Vivian Waller who represented the accuser had previously made an outrageously false claim, during the RC iirc that Cardinal Pell was present during a rape in 1969 when he was not even in the country.

Unless you are “Chad’ on tinder you dont get laid in the US of A.
    https://spectator.us/sexbot-apocalypse/

The share of American adults having no sex has reached an all time high. Twenty-five percent of 18-30 year-old men remained involuntarily celibate throughout 2018. Since 2008, the share of men younger than 30 reporting no sex in the last year has nearly tripled, to 28 percent.

The Births, Deaths and Marriages Registration Amendment Bill 2019, to be introduced into state parliament today, will allow applicants to self-nominate the sex listed in their birth registration as male, female, or any other gender diverse or non-binary descriptor of their choice.

The move will change current laws requiring individuals to undergo surgery before their birth certificate can be altered.

Attorney-General Jill Hennessy said everyone deserved to live their live as they choose, which included having “a birth certificate that reflects their true identity.””

So even if you are born with a penis and you haven’t had any surgery to get rid of that penis….if you wake up and decide you are a woman…then you’re a woman. Bingo….I’ll just get that changed on my birth certificate. Cardinal Pell, the Sydney Archbishop, again rejected claims by Melbourne lawyer Vivian Waller that he was present in 1969 when a child described being raped to another priest. Cardinal Pell attacked the claims as ”seriously defamatory” and possibly a contempt of Parliament and professional misconduct. .. Dr Waller told the [Victorian parliamentary”> inquiry that Cardinal Pell refused to listen to a boy who was raped in Ballarat in 1969, and that Cardinal Pell was in the room when the victim told another priest what had happened. Cardinal Pell said he was not in Australia when the boy was raped and did not go to Ballarat until 1971. Ms Waller replied that although the rape was in 1969, she did not say when the victim tried to tell him. Cardinal Pell went to court in November to get the transcript of the trial of the rapist, Brother Robert Best. The statement posted on Thursday by Cardinal Pell’s media director Katrina Lee says the court transcript shows the victim did try to complain in 1969, when Cardinal Pell was overseas. ”It is of some concern that Dr Waller made these false allegations against Cardinal Pell and then failed to retract them when it became apparent to her that they could not have been true,” Ms Lee says. ”False accusations such as this are not only seriously defamatory but can (in certain circumstances) amount to a contempt of Parliament and professional misconduct. At the very least, the inquiry, the media and the public has been seriously misled.” Dr Waller said she would respond to the inquiry after talking to her client. ”If the archdiocese of Sydney believe I have engaged in professional misconduct I invite them to bring a formal complaint,” she said.

The argument was simple: that for supporters of gay ‘marriage’ there could be no logical objection to a man legally ‘marrying’ a beagle if the legislature did away with two (for now) extant requisites, humanity and consent. And voila. Now we have governments legislatively abolishing gender on official documents using the sacred rubric of “choice.”

Details of costly blowouts and delays on troubled military projects are being kept hidden from public view by the Defence department.

Australia is spending $3.5 billion on 47 new MRH90s — a multi-role helicopter that will eventually replace the ageing Sea King and Black Hawk fleets.

Defence sources acknowledged the MRH90’s capability and sustainment has improved, but the fleet is currently limited on certain missions because it cannot shut down its main engines due to problems with the auxiliary power unit on board.

Glenn Reynolds likes to compare and contrast sex-bots to vibrators. The former is invariably essayed as a dire cultural crisis and “calls” are made for bans etc; not so for the latter. I don’t know enough about the actual popularity of vibrators to know if he has a point. Interesting argument, though.

    From the Paywallian

Australian Conservatives leader Cory Bernardi has opened the door to returning to the Liberal Party, a move which could give Scott Morrison a 36th senator.

Senator Bernardi defected from the government in early 2017 to form his own party because of his disagreements with then-leader Malcolm Turnbull, but his party has not succeeded in absorbing centre and hard right votes since.

Today, he told Sky News he was open to a conversation with the Prime Minister and said his main goal in this term of parliament was to help the government’s agenda.

“I’ve said no to that because I’m over party politics but I do consider myself to be a traditionalist Liberal,” he told Sky News.

“I do think Scott Morrison has claimed a lot of the territory that was very fertile for the Australian Conservatives. He’s a man of faith, he’s a relentless campaigner.

“In the last month or so I have been openly thinking and canvassing what my role will be in politics, I still enjoy it, I do like it very much.

“I do want to see this government succeed so I’ll think about how best I can do that.’’

Asked if he was open to discussing a return to the Liberals with the Prime Minister, Senator Bernardi said he was.

“That conversation hasn’t happened yet … I’m open to having a conversation with the government about how I can best serve their agenda but I’m not compromising myself,” he said.

Senator Bernardi is considered a reliable crossbench supporter for the Coalition. If he returned to the government, it would leave two One Nation senators, two Centre Alliance senators, and Tasmanian independent Jacqui Lambie on the crossbench.

The government would only need three of those votes to pass bills if Senator Bernardi re-joined it.

Coalition senator and hard-line conservative Eric Abetz said today anyone who signed up to the Liberals’ principles was welcome to do so, but did not endorse Senator Bernardi returning to the fold.

“Everybody who is willing to sign the 17 principles we believe is more than welcome in the Liberal Party,” Senator Abetz told Sky News.

“If Cory was willing to join us again, that would be up to the South Australian division of the Liberal Party to determine.

“There are some sensitive issues which need to be worked through … the important thing for Cory and the government to do when the senate resumes is to work together for the betterment of our nation.

When Bernardi first formed the AC it was never meant to be a separate political party – only a conservative pressure group within the overall Liberal Party structure. then Turdbull started moves to push him out, and rather than be pushed, Cory jumped.

I don’t say this to defend him, because I think this latest news is a slap in the face for all those who rallied behind him. Nonetheless, at the end of the day he is a mainstream party politician, and like all such creatures political survival is his number one objective.

Everybody else is just so much collateral damage – “unintended consequences”.

Two protesters who glued themselves to a zebra crossing and shut down a busy street in Brisbane’s CBD have finally been removed.

It took several hours for police to remove the pair, with dissolving chemicals used to end the sticky stunt by the man and woman in Queen Street which disrupted traffic from 7.30am today.

Several other protesters from activist group Extinction Rebellion gathered around the couple, while backed-up traffic added to peak hour inner-city commutes.

Asked what they were doing, the man said they were protesting against “an extinction”.

While the protest was not related directly to the Queensland Government’s approval last week of construction of Adani’s Carmichael mine, one of the protesters was wearing a T-shirt that said “Adani, no means no”.

In a statement, Extinction Rebellion said the group was “disrupting ‘business as usual’ in response to Australia and Queensland’s dangerous lack of climate action”.

Broadway play ‘Hillary and Clinton’ closing early due to low ticket sales

A Broadway depiction of former President Bill Clinton and former First Lady Hillary Clinton will be ending its run early due to underwhelming ticket sales.

The production of “Hillary and Clinton” was scheduled to close July 21, but producer Scott Rudin announced Monday that its final performance will be held Sunday. June 23. The play cost $4.2 million to produce and accumulated only $4.7 million at the box office, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The show, titled “Hillary and Clinton,” takes place in March 2008 and offers a fictional behind-the-scenes look at the former secretary of state’s first presidential campaign as then-Senator Barack Obama began gaining momentum. The play stars Tony winners Laurie Metcalf as the Democratic candidate and John Lithgow as former President Bill Clinton.

A pack a day smoker, goes off to get her hair done for a tick over 100 bucks every other week it seems. Visits her bloke who lives 130km away.
My query is this, if she is getting more than me just by being on Centrelink and I slog away slowly chipping away at my own debts that I have accrued, and I make sure that my kids are looked after when I have them, what is my obligation to her? Any money I give I want the children to experience, not for her to indulge in personal dealings.

Seats with less than 2% margin post May 18th :-
    .
    Seat ; State ; Party; TPP%
    .
    Macquarie ; NSW ; ALP ; 50.19%
    Bass ; Tas ; Liberal ; 50.41%
    Chisholm ; Vic ; Liberal ; 50.57%
    Lilley ; Qld ; ALP ; 50.64%

    Wentworth ; NSW ; ALP ; 51.31%
    Boothby ; SA ; Liberal ; 51.38%
    Indi ; Vic ; Independent ; 51.39%
    Dobell ; NSW ; ALP ; 51.50%
    Moreton ; Qld ; ALP ; 51.90%
    .
So, the Liars hold 8 of the 13 seats sitting on a 2PP of under 2%.

The independent is Indi, which is a rural seat in Victoria, and has traditionally been Liberal. Without the oxygen enjoyed by Kathy McGowan in a hung Parliament, the current independent will be starved. This one is never going to Labor. In fact, of all the Independents, only Wilke’s seat in Tassie could be argued as notionally a Labor seat. All of the others (Mayo in SA, Warringah in NSW, Kennedy in Qld and Indi) would probably all flip to Liberal without strong independent candidate with a cashed up campaign.

Of the remaining four Liberal seats, I would expect Wentworth to solidify into Liberal control without the Trumble interference.

Fun fact, that Brazilian mother that mutilated and beheaded her own son with her lesbian lover has received little to no news coverage in the country in which it occurred, Brazil. Why is that? This is the sort of story that would receive headlines for weeks but…nothing in Brazil. And nothing in Australia as far as I can ascertain. Is it because it involves ‘homosexuals’? Is it because bad publicity during Pride Month is verboten? Is it because of the misandry involved? (His penis was ripped off? Not cut off, but torn off?) Is it because she is claimed to have admitted they did it because it reminded the mother of the boy’s father? Is it because his face was also removed? That he was quartered and dumped, and not given a fit burial? Is it because the court awarded the mother custody?

Poor, poor boy. To be the father of this child in the knowledge of what he has been put through must be harrowing.

Mayo is gone to the Libs whilst Sharkie is running and Clark is gone to Labor whilst Wilkie is running. When they retire the Libs and Labor may win them back.

They are coming for you soon in the middle of the night:

AFL commentators have been left bewildered by footage of a security guard briefly stepping onto the field during an AFL match in an attempt to separate two tussling players.

In Saturday’s match between North Melbourne and the GWS Giants at Bellerive Oval in Hobart, the security guard made to separate Kangaroos player Jack Ziebell and Giant Heath Shaw, who were wrestling close to the boundary line.

The security guard hastened from his position on the fence to intercede, only for umpire Nathan Williamson to send him away.

“Hey, no, it’s alright, you can’t come on here,” Williamson said in audio picked up by his microphone.

AFL chief executive Gillon McLachlan admitted the security guard should not have attempted to intervene.

“That was wrong and that was a mistake,” McLachlan said at a media conference in Melbourne this afternoon.

McLachlan also apologised for what fans believe has been a crackdown on security this season, saying spectators should not be frightened by the presence of venue security officers at matches.

Memo to Dover Beach: birth certificates are not public documents.

Rubbish. The purpose of registering births on a public register, which the law provides for in all jurisdictions, is so that the many legal consequences of registration as male or female will follow. In various situations one can obtain an extract from that public register. If Martha is registered as Arthur, and the law requires that the world at large regard her as a him because of the registration on the public register then absurdities will follow.
