Its interesting to note that there’s a “gofundme ireland” ABN registered – which strongly suggests tax shenanigans.

Let me guess: GFM Ireland bills GFM Australia for ill defined services. GFM Australia declares this as a business expense, GFM Ireland declares this as revenue. Voila, profit teleported to a lower taxation environment than Australia.

First, neither that chart nor the article defines what their “disabilities” are. They certainly don’t relate them to childhood diseases or vaccinations.

Second, read the article. Disability claims are big business in the US. “Disability” isn’t a diagnosis, it’s a form you convince your doctor to sign so you can cash in.

When you are a kid, a disability can be anything that prevents you from progressing in school. Two-thirds of all kids on the program today have been diagnosed with mental or intellectual problems. (Which is how they get on the money train)

Jahleel is a kid you can imagine doing very well for himself. He is delayed. But given the right circumstances and support, it’s easy to believe that over the course of his schooling Jahleel could catch up.

Let’s imagine that happens. Jahleel starts doing better in school, overcomes some of his disabilities. He doesn’t need the disability program anymore. That would seem to be great for everyone, except for one thing: It would threaten his family’s livelihood. Jahleel’s family primarily survives off the monthly $700 check they get for his disability.

Jahleel’s mom wants him to do well in school. That is absolutely clear. But her livelihood depends on Jahleel struggling in school.

    FMD Zatara,

please calm your jerky knee down.

I was responding to numbers’ idiotic statement implying vaccinations caused a 10-fold increase in childhood disabilities, quote:

You do realise that childhood disabilities have increased tenfold since the widespread use of vaccines don’t you? (US census data).

The increase in disability numbers shown by the chart, whether they be real or just a reporting artifact (as you point out), clearly occur post 1975, with a 5-fold increase since 1990.

So even if they were real disabilities and not an artifact, the increase is so long after the introduction of widespread vaccinations in the US that it cannot be caused by them.

Catholic cat hour is upon us again

    no rest for the wicked

I miss the good old days. You remember. Back when the only thing people knew about the Middle Ages is that they were Dark and filled with evil barons wresting a living off the back of their serfs, not to mention lecherous clergy imprisoning young maidens so as to rape them and then accuse them of witchcraft.

You remember, right? What it was like when the Middle Ages were Dark? The Roman Catholic Church made slaves of everyone, stripped them of their sense of dignity and independence and made social status a matter not of achievement, but birth. The Church hated science and industry and did everything in its power to keep people in chains. It guarded its authority with the sword and the stake, stifled all innovation, and fed the common people lies.

Gofundme did indeed support legal defence funds in supporting egg boy and he said that if was for his legal defence and for more eggs. I remembet because it was false pretenses as there was no legal case and so he was essentially making money from the death of muesli from a terror attack. They did not take it down they did not stop people donating and they certainly kept it up for days and days. They never refunded anyone and it was people like me who pressured him and go fund me to donate the monies to the victims families and I have no idea how much both egg boy and gofundme profited from that venture. So gofundme is lying.

  39. Some History

It seems that Pete the Pontificating Poyret has more orifices than usual and is squealing out of all of them at the same time. There are some whopper contradictions.

The people have spoken, and now Folau should listen

Firstly, it may mean that Folau might have to – hold the presses – dip into his own pockets to fund his legal appeal, instead of building it on $5 and $10 donations from a lot of well-meaning people who actually seem to think this is about religious freedom in Australia, as if that was ever under threat…

What it mostly means though is that, whatever the law will ultimately say on the Folau case, the Australian mob stands firmly against both the whole absurdity of the “gays are going to burn in hell” thing, and the very idea of using a crowd like GoFundMe to make it legally safe to shove that view in the face of your employers, even when you have firmly promised not to.

Paul Collitts in fine form at Quadrant:

The Tele is, and always has been, the rugby league bible, and so is devoured daily by much of Western Sydney (not so much in Newtown and Bellevue Hill).  It has always had the front page headline shockers, once upon a time the page three girls, the politically incorrect cartoons, an active crime beat reportage, and a tilt towards Aussie television culture of the Home and Away rather than the highbrow variety.  In short, Tory but working class, a marvellous antidote to the head-up-its-own-fundament Sydney Morning Herald.

Sad to report though is The Telegraph’slatest effort (Sunday, 23 June; paywalled) to become a spear thrower in the escalating, all-fronts total war on Israel Folau. Here’s a sample of the Tele’s editorial:

Israel Folau’s homophobic beliefs are not the views of the ‘silent majority’.  Donors are flocking to a GoFundMe page set up with the premise of supporting ‘religious freedom’, but Israel Folau’s fight with Rugby Australia was never about religious freedom — and his views are out of step with the majority of Australians.

There are four problems here.  The first is the assertion of homophobia.  The second is the sneer quotes around religious freedom.  The third is the simply absurd proposition that the Folau matter is not about religious freedom.  This is Blind Freddy territory.  The fourth is the claim that Folau’s “views” are out of touch.

I believe donations to Quadrant are tax deductible.

There’s something about Israel Folau that is sending them mouth-frothingly nuts. Is it because he’s brown? Is it because his name is Israel? Is it because he has money? Is it because he’s Christian? Is it because he quotes the Bible? Is it because he is telling them they will burn in Hell if they don’t repent?

Papers have “merit” if they tell you what you want to hear, even if you don’t understand how they came to their conclusions and even if the conclusions make no sense.

I understand how they came to their conclusions. Various studies have found particles of HPV, periodontal spirochetes, and measles within and around amyloid aggregates, the idea being that amyloid is toxic to these pathogens. I not a big fan of the hypothesis that infections are a dominant cause(as argued in the paper) because in animal studies it is very easy to induce dementia that have nothing to do with infection(eg. MPTP). My view is broader and incorporates the idea that latent infections(what do you think Shingles is!) can drive dementia but the picture is rather complex and this is not the place to discuss things like that.

One of the reasons the bugmen had to shut Folau down was that they were holding two losing tickets in this raffle if it proceeded to court.
Firstly, if the legal principle is entrenched that you can’t sack someone for religious beliefs, the march of the bugmen wanting to beat up Christians in the workplace is halted (at least for a moment).
Secondly, if it is found that it is open slather to fire people for religious beliefs, then any employer could happily trawl through the social meeja posts of moosley employees and rissoling anyone who suggests infidels need to be decapitated. And we don’t want that.

  85. BrettW

I guess torn sounds so much more dramatic than taken down. My question is if GFM had such standards how come they did not realise the problem as soon as Folau created the campaign.

As for “will he return the cash” I don’t think Folau has actually received any of it yet. Surely more accurate to say “will donors get their cash back”.

I think bigger donors who would not be using GFM will just tip in more now.

    Stuff And Nonsense
    Blogging about balderdash and baloney
Numberwang! Child Health Safety On Measles
Here, Child Health Safety tackles the fascinating topic of measles incidence and mortality. CHS refers to “grossly false claims by the US Centers for Disease Control [‘CDC’] – vastly exaggerating the threat measles as a disease poses” and accuses them in the title of lying.

CHS quotes (accurately, surprisingly enough) the CDC as stating that:

Worldwide, there are estimated to be 20 million cases and 164,000 deaths each year.

He then cites a figure from the World Health Organization that there were 226,722 reported cases of measles worldwide.

    What happened next?

Did CHS mention the time difference between the two sources referred to? No. (The CDC page states that it was last reviewed in 2009 and the WHO figures cited are from 2012.)

Did CHS tell readers that there might be a difference between estimated actual cases and reported cases of measles that might at least partly explain this huge discrepancy? No. The possibility of under-reporting is not mentioned. In spite of the fact that there are gaps in the table linked to (not many in 2012, but including France, which reported 15,000 cases the previous year), and some columns where a zero might raise some eyebrows (for example, the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea had 3,550 cases in 2007 and zero in every other year, except where there were gaps).

Did CHS cite a WHO figure for worldwide deaths from measles? No. Interestingly enough, there is a figure for worldwide deaths from measles in 2011 here. That figure is 158,000, which isn’t that far removed from the 164,000 cited on the CDC page which CHS claims “vastly exaggerates” the dangers of measles and makes “grossly false” claims. How odd. CHS was very keen to compare the CDC’s estimate of worldwide cases with the number of cases reported to WHO, but neglects to compare the CDC estimate of deaths with figures from the WHO. Very strange.

Instead of comparing the CDC figures for deaths from measles with the WHO figures, as he did for cases, he compares the CDC figures for worldwide deaths with a hypothetical number of deaths based on the WHO figures for worldwide reported cases and the mortality rate in England. I don’t think I need to point out that England is not the world, or that there might be reasons why England might see a lower mortality rate than developing countries (but I will, apart from anything else: Measles case-fatality rates have declined in association with economic development and associated decreased crowding, older age at infection, improved nutrition, and treatment for secondary pneumonia).

Brilliant. Take the estimated cases and deaths figures from the CDC. Take the reported cases figure from the WHO. Ignore the deaths figure from the WHO. Pretend that the mortality rate in England will reflect the mortality rate elsewhere. Then simply call the CDC liars, accuse them of making grossly false claims, and assert that they have vastly exaggerated the threat of measles.

There were one or two other slightly odd things in the CHS post.

One was the mortality rate figure that ranged from 1 in 25,000 to 1 in 5,000 (which doesn’t match the DH figures I’ve seen or the Miller paper that CHS cites – I presume it should be 1 in 2,500 and CHS has copied and pasted a figure from the DH website without spotting the error).

The other was the figure of “162,000 more deaths”. CHS seems to think there should have been 2,000 deaths rather than 164,000 but I can’t see how to get to 2,000 from the figures used in the post. Using the WHO reported cases and the English mortality rate I get 45-90 deaths and using the CDC estimated cases and the English mortality rate I get 4,000-8,000. 2,000 deaths from 20,000,000 cases would be 1 in 10,000, which is not a figure referred to by CHS. I’m guessing what CHS has done is to divide the number of worldwide deaths estimated (according to the CDC) by the number of worldwide cases the CDC reported and multiplied it by the number of reported cases from the WHO table. CHS seems to have taken various figures that cannot be meaningfully combined and stitched them together to weave a misleading narrative based on inappropriate calculations that are not made clear to the reader.

Sorry to table this stuff but loons like Rtp always quote fellow nuts to prove their point.
I used to have to trawl through “data” presented by the anti GMO crowd to refute misinformation on behalf of Farmer Orgs.

Unfortunately, GFM has a catch-all escape clause tucked away in its terms of service:

Without limiting the foregoing, you agree not to use the Services to:
raise funds or establish or contribute to any Campaign with the implicit or explicit purpose of or involving:

    27. any other activity that GoFundMe may deem in its sole discretion to be unacceptable.

In this case, it took GFM 3 days to work out that its #1 Australian account, $750k, and 10,000 donors was “unacceptable“. GFM probably had some outside help in deeming at its sole discretion.

Also unfortunately, you can expect mv’s excellent account to be shafted on this same ground.

FROM John Penley I am hearing from a Navy vet with knowledge about drones and electronic warfare that this story is complete bullshit. He says that the Navy and the Pentagon were completely shocked and stunned that Iran had a surface to air missile that was able to beat their new high tech drone and an electronic warfare manned aircraft that was in the air with the drone. Actually the Iranians said they could have shot the manned aircraft down along with the drone but chose not to. My friend says the real reason the US called off last nights strike on Iran is that until they figure out what the Surface to Air missile that took out their new drone is capable of and how to protect against it they are afraid to strike Iran because all US military aircraft in the air anywhere near Iran and even ships if the Iranians have missiles with the capability of avoiding US electronic warfare countermeasures could be taken out. This makes a lot of sense to me. Along with this missile technology which the Iranians used and the US had no idea they had what else do they have that we are unaware of ?”

It could be S400 surface to air. Very deadly against 4th gen aircraft. If Iran has sufficient numbers of S400s, which are mobile hence will adopt shoot and skoot, that represents a serious threat to US air power. Not insurmountable but losses will occur.

Therefore the question should be, who inspected and approved that project as well as the Opal building?

As I understand it, the certification of these buildings has essentially been privatised and private operators are loathe to knock back a certification for fear of losing future work from the construction company.

I note a relatively new apartment building in Melbourne’s CBD was last night suddenly declared uninhabitable due to faults resulting in failure of water supply and electricity in the building. Occupants turfed out into the cold night air.

I note Morrison has wasted political capital by actively facilitating the repatriation of children of terrorists from Syria and urging Australians to “embrace them” so they can have successful lives.

As justification he claimed the children were not responsible for the decisions of their parents. Maybe so, but then children do suffer the consequences of their parents’ actions every day and the government doesn’t necessarily step in to remedy the situation.

Even Anne Aly said today she hoped the children had been assessed for how they have been impacted by their parents’ radicalism or they could have trouble settling into Australian life.

Reports suggest in depth assessment has not been undertaken, but will be left until they arrive in Australia.

Middle Ages is that they were Dark and filled with evil barons wresting a living off the back of their serfs

Catholic Church made slaves of everyone

The Middle Ages were the period in history that got rid of serfdom. It was common at the start of the Middle Ages, rare at the end. It wasn’t as if there was somehow a peak in serfdom during the Middle Ages.

Yes, during that period, the Catholic church did dominate. It used its influence to reduce serfdom. In fiefs where bishops rather than hereditary lords ruled, you did not, in general, have serfs. The church was a significant force behind the Magna Carta (doubt this? read clause 1).

More seriously, apart from Mr N I get sneered by just about anyone to whom I express my views and I’m probably lucky that only I can fire me but inevitably there are some among them who have come back to me later, sometimes years later , and say I was right. This despite me being often wrong in the past. And sometimes you get surprised at the reaction or just surprised. A short while back even one of the extended offspring contacted out of the blue to ask me what I thought of Jordan Peterson. I had not seen this kid for maybe a year and I certainly have never mentioned Jordan Peterson to them or anyone purely because I don’t watch him even though I know of him. The RBA basically forced Australian banks into implementing a system that would enable customers to more easily switch banks.

PayID emerged from the resulting negotiations between the RBA and the banks.

    No, it’s government regulation.

The only avenue for the SJWswould be to somehow try and sit on the RBA. If the RBA wanted to act, it would have to force through changes to the banks to enable such action, which would take over a year. Plus, the RBA could find itself in problems with section 116 of the constitution if it did try anything.

I don’t agree with Israel Folau’s views of gays going to Hell and asking for donations for his industrial case. I think he could have handled that better.

None, I haven’t been able to keep up with threads very much lately. Dip in here and there.

Of interest: the sadly homeless schizophrenic female (I’ve just met her) who is currently residing on my second son’s couch turns out to hail from a household only two blocks from us here at home in Vaucluse. She is shy and sweet and crazy off her meds and not young, definitely over 45 (that’s a relief; no babies forthcoming). I will do what I can for her, which may not be much, as she is likely as not to have flown this coop in a week.

I wasn’t too surprise to hear of her origins. I’ve already been busy for years supporting a grandchild produced via a similarly sad and homeless female, who turned out to be the daughter of a well-known Labor politician (and it was NOT Neville Wran, btw, that’s yet another one). So many of the people I have come across who are living on the streets (I move in strange circles sometimes) have fallen a long way from where they began. Others, not so far, simply druggie parents and thus druggie kids, from Sydney’s deprived West and South-West, with a fair sprinkling too of kids from lefty inner-west ‘woke’ parentage… and they are perhaps the saddest of all, gifted victim status by their parents as they struggle with addictions.

Meanwhile, Attapuss is home, wailing his way back in the car in his cat bag. Nervous of course at first. Until he saw Hairy, when he perked up in recognition immediately. Talk about outflanked, I felt positively ignored. They had a big love-in and now Attapuss is having a wonderful all-over grooming session to show how happy he is to be home.

And home just wasn’t the same without him.
