Black-Ball, the other AFL fuck-up this week was the “studs-up” rule (ie flying for a mark with the leg extended such that the studs in the boot contact an opposition player).
Toby Greene of GWS did it a couple of times a year or so ago.
    OMG!
    OMFG!
Someone is going to die! We need a rule!
    So they got their rule.
Jack Reiwoldt does it last week and is penalised.
    Outrage ensues.
    Rule deleted.
Greene is an annoying little shit, but that shouldn’t be the criteria to make or ditch rules of the game.

ACCR director of human rights, Dhakshayini Sooriyakumaran, said they were not at all discouraged by last year’s overwhelming defeat of the resolution.

Dhakshayini is an activist, entrepreneur, strategy consultant, and yoga teacher. She began her career as a civil engineer in the water industry at Sinclair Knight Merz (now Jacobs). After realising that she wanted to apply her technical and problem-solving skills to big societal challenges, she worked for organisations such as the United Nations International Strategy for Disaster Reduction (UNISDR) in Fiji, Net Balance (now part of EY), Small Giants, and Foundation for Young Australians.

    Wesfarmers withdraws its takeover bid.

On 26 March 2019, Wesfarmers announced that it had made a conditional, non-binding indicative prsal(Proposal) to the Board of Lynas Corporation (ASX:LYC) to acquire Lynas for $2.25 a share, payable incash, pursuant to a scheme of arrangement. The Proposal was subject to a number of matters including: Completion by Wesfarmers of its due diligence investigations; Negotiation and execution of an implementation agreement, for approval by both Boards; Ensuring that relevant operating licences in Malaysia are in force and will remain in force for a satisfactory period following completion of the transaction; and Securing regulatory and Lynas shareholder approvals, and other customary conditions.Wesfarmers notes Lynas’ announcement on 16 August confirming the conditions for renewal of the operating licence for the company’s LAMP facility in Malaysia. Notwithstanding this development, Wesfarmers has been unable to progress its Proposal and does not intend to pursue it further.Wesfarmers Managing Director Rob Scott said: “Wesfarmers remains focused on delivering value to its shareholders through disciplined capital allocation within our divisions and when considering new investments.

Police lose Bourke Street inquest secrecy bid

    By Agencies
    2:28PM August 23, 2019

Families of Melbourne’s Bourke Street massacre victims will find out about Victoria Police’s new car pursuit policies, after a court ruling.

Victoria Police has lost a bid to keep details of its new car pursuit policy secret from an the inquest into Melbourne’s deadly Bourke Street massacre.

Killer James Gargasoulas was pursued by police cars before driving down the city’s Bourke Street Mall, killing six people and injuring dozens of others in January 2017.

Lawyers for the police argued Gargasoulas had known the officers would back off from their pursuit, so details of the force’s new policy about pursuing suspects should be kept secret during the inquest to begin in November.

But coroner Jacqui Hawkins on Friday ruled against the force, and also ordered the scope of the inquest be expanded to look at the police’s actions up until Gargasoulas’ arrest.

  119. Thanks SATP. More fool me. Was just change over a few years I had saved up. Will talk to my accountant Monday.

Alas an ATO audit is unstoppable – if the bastards put you on their list for “random” audit.

A good way to get $100’s is pretend to pay your men in cash.
Most every employer who pays cash around here does it in $100 bills.
So put in a “payroll order” for a tonne of cash, & give how many of each denomination.
    Put in a few $50’s, coupla few more of $20’s, a few $10’s, a $5 or two, & a random amount in $2, $1, 50c, 20c, 10c & 5c

When it happened to me, I had Two ATO officers in the building for a week. About halfway through I picked up on what would have triggered the “random” audit.

A week or so later I initiated a very angry confrontation with the head teller at the bank – She gave the game away within a heartbeat, by heatedly denying. (i.e. she should have been totally puzzled as to what I was talking about)
I hadn’t done anything wrong, just they were bimbos & were marking my regular change orders as “unusual cash transactions”

  120. Black Ball

  124. Helen, if you ever find a hoard of old cash (even a thousand or so dollars) & want to change it into new groovy new plastic ones, just give advance notice to the publican you’re friendliest with.
I’d do it about twice a year, for a farmer/grazier/prospector/other harmless person, who remembers they’ve got a couple of thousand in old paper $50’s stored away & doesn’t know what to do about it without attracting attention.
I spend more time assuring them the bank will never even ask me where the obviously-stored-in-a-powdered milk-tin cash came from, than it takes me to fill out a deposit slip & slide it in with my regular banking.

    Heading to a cashless society.

Yeah, but the payment is able to be made in cash.
The bank is privy to many things, but not how your payroll works.
If necessary pull out a plausible story, eg “We’ll finish next week at [insert remote hell-hole location that would horrify a bank johnny] & being as it is close to [insert distant location like, say, Halls Ck] the men all want to go straight there to a rodeo (or whatever) when we finish on Friday.
There’s no signal out there, & anyway they’ll be assured of having cash for the rodeo [or insert random knees-up where ringers blow cash] if we pay them in cash, be a nice surprise for them, blah blah blah”

By the time you finish the yarn the bank won’t smell any rat.
If you tell them you’re renewing your mattress stash, they’ll smell rat so hard they’ll need a nose-peg.

Let me change the net worth for Koch.

    WSJ says

Mr. Koch, whose net worth of about $50.5 billion tied him with his brother as the world’s 11th-richest person in Forbes magazine rankings, gained most of his wealth from a 42% stake in Wichita, Kan.-based Koch Industries, which has interests ranging from oil to beef to paper and is the second-largest closely held U.S. company.

  144. I doubt you’ll score a tax audit for this one-off situation, Helen.

I wouldn’t be betting the farm on that.
Be prepared in case you get one.
You’ll be able to tell by the questions they ask at the start, there’ll be some random camouflage, questions like “You’ve been buying houses & small parcels of land on the Qld coast with cash, want to tell us anything about that?” (stupid question, of the type they trot out thinking they’re fooling you)
Somewhere in the dozen or so “random” questions, will be the key question – it may take quite a bit of detecting.

Now the Fed can show their stuff!
As usual, the Fed did NOTHING! It is incredible that they can “speak” without knowing or asking what I am doing, which will be announced shortly. We have a very strong dollar and a very weak Fed. I will work “brilliantly” with both, and the U.S. will do great…
….My only question is, who is our bigger enemy, Jay Powell or Chairman Xi?
Our Country has lost, stupidly, Trillions of Dollars with China over many years. They have stolen our Intellectual Property at a rate of Hundreds of Billions of Dollars a year, & they want to continue. I won’t let that happen! We don’t need China and, frankly, would be far….
…better off without them. The vast amounts of money made and stolen by China from the United States, year after year, for decades, will and must STOP. Our great American companies are hereby ordered to immediately start looking for an alternative to China, including bringing..
…your companies HOME and making your products in the USA. I will be responding to China’s Tariffs this afternoon. This is a GREAT opportunity for the United States. Also, I am ordering all carriers, including Fed Ex, Amazon, UPS and the Post Office, to SEARCH FOR & REFUSE,….
….all deliveries of Fentanyl from China (or anywhere else!). Fentanyl kills 100,000 Americans a year. President Xi said this would stop – it didn’t. Our Economy, because of our gains in the last 2 1/2 years, is MUCH larger than that of China. We will keep it that way!
