45 Whoppers about the Barrier Reef

Interesting that The Conversation (Academic rigour, journalistic flair) is funded by the Group of Eight leading universities presumably to demonstrate their commitment to learning and scholarship. Or is the “unlearning” motto at the University of Sydney a real aspiration and not just a malicious rumour? Anyway check out this story about the Reef.

Very slick and impressive presentation but!

Before you go…
It is easier than ever before for vested interests to spread disinformation on vital matters of public interest. If you want to know what’s really going you need to hear from the experts willing to drill down to the truth. But we can’t do that vital work unless readers donate. Please make a donation.

Vested interests spreading disinformation? The horror!

It reads like a political message from JCU.

JCDay and Scott Heron James Cook University “Drilling down to the truth “ the blurb says …..on a coral reef.? Peter Rudd has really stirred the silted research of JCU.

Any claim that the reef is at risk of dying off should be taken with a grain of salt.

Also the reef has been experiencing bleaching since we first started observations in 1928 but gbrmpa don’t put that info in their publications and it isn’t in the wikipedia article.

  5. It’s quite incredible that we’ve arrived at such a point where the Left can lie about anything without fear of being called out and taken to task. It certainly is taken to task by various blogs, but is the general public even aware of these blogs and who would they trust?

The only people who believe in global warmening are women who are highly insulated from reality and can afford to be.
Doctor’s wives and public servants and a few left wing beta males and those funded to proclaim the authenticity of their dead sea scrolls.
    The majotity are a wakevup.
The noisy minority was ever thus and without the evil fuckers in our schools who wotk under the racist abo flag none of this eould get a run.
We must bomb the factories and not wait to just defend from attack.

Perhaps the prestige associated with universities was always a blind – concealing its cranks, lunatics, and charlatans behind its more worthy luminaries.

Or perhaps they really were devoted to knowledge once – the classical image of a professor with a near savant skill who could tell you the life cycle of an obscure beetle in Uruguay, or reconstruct a civilisation from a few sherds of pottery…but cannot balance their cheque book – but the institutions have been co-opted by people with another agenda who have redesigned the universities to attract a different kind of student in their turn taking over the university in an accelerating decomposition.

For whatever reason, I find it hard to take any of their pronouncements seriously. And one reason is because they are so stupid they think we will.

Having gone from their parents house to the society of other students at uni who feel by nature seperate from the people outside like oil and water, and their bottoms finally taking position in the cloisters of academe, they have no idea of the world they deign to instruct us upon from on high.

They think the world is made up of ever ravenous plutocrats in top hats and tails, benightedly ignorant problems who can only peer confused from the dark empty gloom of their minds, savage bogans that care for nothing but their immediate physical satisfaction and perhaps public servants – robot like and incurious but among whom there are a few glimmers of enlightenment.

Yet, at bottom of it all is issues with their parents. An contest without end, an eternal whispered reproach, a craving for revenge, and the fury that mum and dad withhold the magic of those kisses that used to make things all better.

Tear down the walls that shield their fantasy world and watch them cark with limbs flailing like the legs on a dying cockroach.

I have a great idea for a business model.
You start a conversation, block, delete, insult over half your readership/commentators, then ask for money.
How’s that working out for you?

are people really agog when they read stuff like this?

    incessant doomsaying desensitizes

meh, school holidays and the roads are clear this morning, bliss .. it’s the little things that matter to me and you not the big things, the big things affect everyone and the more of us there are, the less they matter

    such is life

… but the institutions have been co-opted by people with another agenda who have redesigned the universities to attract a different kind of student …

LOL, that would be the vice chancellors who are interested in enrolling as many high fee paying overseas students. The money let’s them build big, shiny university structures on which to slap names of (in)famous Labor politicians.

I take it by this they mean that CSIRO is not doing its job. If so I will agree with them but not for the reason they seem to hint at.

  12. Mother Lode

    benightedly ignorant problems proles

    Frikkin’ auto-corrupt.

  13. Mother Lode

LOL, that would be the vice chancellors who are interested in enrolling as many high fee paying overseas students.

Yep – the VC’s happily shear the fleeces from their foreign students, so they can encourage the creation of and pamper the denizens of all the faddish new departments designed to tell hoi polloi how stupid they are, and how much the townsfolk ought to gather around the ivory tower singing songs of praise and snatching at the scraps they choose to let drop to the ground.

Make all the liars figures of public derision by publishing books of lies ,about climate ,energy cultimlturism ,politics , academia there are endless opportunities given by the global eelighhts .
Mock them ,laugh at their lies and stupidity make it so they cannot show their faces in public, drive them even more crazy than they are . That and total defunding would knock the insanity on the head .

Dr. Peter Ridd addressed pastoralists, farmers and interested public at four locations here in CQ last week. I wasn’t able to get there myself unfortunately, plans were severely disrupted.

I’m not too good at the link thing, but there’s a facebook page called A True Story: From the heart to Qld. The AgForceCQ facebook page has also shared the video.
The video posted on the True Story etc page at 9:13 on September 12 is well worth the watching, as it addresses many of these fallacies about the state of the GBR, all based in poor (actually abysmal) peer review and errors detected by Dr Ridd, yet that remain uncorrected, and are relied upon (or perhaps knowingly used) by the Qld government in their determined effort to destroy agriculture. Our state government is heavily infested with green ideologues who ignorantly think they can live without the food, fibre and economic contribution of the productive regions outside the SEQ enclave.

The video quality isn’t so good towards the end in the Q&A section, but there’s nothing wrong with the audio, and it’s well worth the time to watch to the end.

Here is the clue that the universities have been taken over by the left:

They are rejecting their radical predecessors.

Most progressives are driven by emotion. Emotion is something that exists in the present and inside the self.

Rational thought extends from the past, through the present, and into the future, and back again. It differentiates between self and not self and provides a means to to see the self critically from the outside. It is a tyrant and a servant.

For every lefty it is a vital conceit that they are the one the world has been waiting for. Their thoughts make the ground shake. Their acts will make different every day after this.

Because the only universe what resonates with them is one where they are the centre. Their appreciation of themselves is the ontological substrate.

They have no need for the last generation. Oh, they might toss an offhand nice word to those tired old donkeys that helped carry them, but only because they love their own magnanimity.

But as they continue to make the present all about themselves the old battles which they were not present for are dismissed as outdated and irrelevant. Even childish. The old feminism and political marxism are dismissed, replaced by identity politics of gender, sexual orientation, racism, privilege etc.

Last years doyens become this years personae non gratae. Germaine Greer is no longer germane, but rather denounced for not belonging to this generation.

And in a few years the next generation will have to invent new universes that will swirl around them, and the social justice warriors of today will be fuddy-duddies rambling on about some irrelevant old stuff.

Let the reef die, these clever climateers can make another one ,if they can change the worlds climate a little reef should be no problem .

  18. I_am_not_a_robot

The Great Barrier Reef is in trouble … coral reefs overall have declined to very poor condition …the overall condition of habitats is poor … GBRMPA.

At the same time Queensland.com and Tourism Australia are promoting the GBR as a splendid tourist destination.
If the GBRMPA version is correct both the Queensland and Australian government advertising misrepresent what tourists can expect to find and expose taxpayers to multiple lawsuits and class actions.

I’m surprised that the reef is still here. It’s been dying for as long as I’ve been alive and yet it’s still here. Maybe it has died like they said and I shouldn’t believe my lying eyes, just like how no islands have disappeared.

  20. Sydney Boy

The Conversation is nothing more than a left-wing Green mouthpiece. 5 minutes perusing the site will make that obvious.

  21. Cardimona

“Well, if the reef is dead we can drill it for oil.”

Great for starting a conversation with leftards.

I do worry about the mental health of our universities. But sadly the very people who could recognise and solutionise this vast brainwashing problem are revelling in the huge patient “wealth” that is being created in the next generation of students. This fruit will be ripe for their “help” about when AGW predictions fail and the scam become obvious to all. In business speak that’s called a killer strategy.

All faith on the medical profession is lost – they have followed the academics into super-commercialisation of their institution by turning their back on “do no harm”. The big 4 consultants are probably to blame.

A new movement called Trust a Skeptic (“TaS” branding) needs a serious marketing manager.
