    ABC don’t understand this.

  2. Lets see? Hypocrisy? Nah! Just Their ABC.

Not sure if this is a surprise. The ABC is a Left / Greens politically centred corporation watched by mostly Left / Greens orientated viewers. It is for that audience.

I find it dull as there so much content on climate change, indigenous/reconciliation issues and the hate Trump stuff of course, and hardly ever watch it now. Why bother getting uptight about it. It is what it is.

Candy…I get uptight about the ABC because my taxes pay for this far-left garbage…and the bottom line is that it shouldn’t be what it is. Ignoring the bias at the ABC and not fighting it is precisely why the ABC has become a collective of smug inner city far-left Marxists.

  5. egg_

A case of Their ABC’s cesspool projecting?
Look at what their brethren bull dyke is doing to devout Christian, Folau.
They must be preaching to their own tiny “congregation”, as mainstream mums and dads must think that the Thunderburger is being exploited/exploiting kids.
/Don’t interrupt your enemy when they’re making a mistake

  6. It is for that audience.

You’d be surprised how many may not be inherently Green/Left inclined, but believe that Their ABC is a pure, honest and unbiased news source. Trust is being abused.

ALPBC bias , hive off country broadcasting as a service to the country people unit , then float the rest as a public company on the ASX , pay out employees entitlements , and pensions and super in company shares, then lease premises and equipment to the company at commercial rates .. a meeting of shareholders can then appoint a board to run the new private broadcaster ,they can tnen compete with the other left wing private companies for sponsorship . The savings for the taxpayers would be huge,no billion odd a year subsidy and the rent from the company for the three months it would last ,and most importantly no more lefty gangrene GBHof our ears ,its a Win Win situation for the majority of us .
The Dr Fred Institute ,problem solving is our business .

  8. Elizabeth (Lizzie) Beare

It’s different when they do it, of course. As we always say, to the point of weariness. Thus I understand Candy’s feeling that we should just turn them off and not let them get on our nerves. That’s what I try to do. But I also take Cassie’s point that we can’t just leave it at that. We do need to engage and call them out, here on Catallaxy, on their own sites as much as we can, and in any publication platforms that are still open to us, as well as letting our friends and neighbours know what we think of the ABC/SMH undergraduate behavior.

Encourage mockery. It has brought down communism before today.

The Cat Q & A forum has been recommended to me by some surprising people, people I didn’t know were turning towards ABC critique and who had no idea I commented here. The fun of it is what makes them see the light. Such forums also let the ABC know precisely what galloping fools a lot of smart and sensible people consider them to be, and they don’t like it. I have that on good authority too. 🙂

  9. struth

I will not watch the ABC.
I only watch Skynews on free to air.

There are enough here who watch it, and report on it, for me to get a gutful of it anyway.

Many moons ago I applied for a Cadetship with ABC. The editor-in-charge who conducted my interviews was old school — he never would have allowed a grievous tautology like “shred a 16-year-old to pieces” to see daylight. But those days are long gone.

“But … but … but … that’s different!” I can hear some leftist hypocrites spluttering.

So which politician is going to close this verminous shithole funded by the public yet which works traitorously against the public?

  15. Robber Baron

Morrison must appoint Tony Abbott, Cardinal P#LL, Rowan Dean, Ross Cameron, Mark Latham and Maurice Newman to the ABC Board.

The staff would immediately go on strike. Perfect!

Them on strike ? Great !they dont get paid on strike , try to make it the longest strike in history , like 40 or 50 years , thats $40 or 50 billion minimum ,heres a solution , tie other unions up with lawfare so they cant afford to help their alpbc comrades ,help the lawtrade make the economy boom with all the fees they collect from the comrades , two birds ,one stone .
Just imagine the blissfull sikence from their radio and TVstations. ,the best sounds they ever broadcast.

There exist the ignorant and the stupid. There exist also those who are both. But the author is special. Not merely ignorant and stupid, but ignorant of the fact they are stupid and thus unwilling to undertake any learning that would alleviate their ignorance about the global warming scam or the marketing scam that is the nasty piece of hate expressions Thornburg.

  19. Whalehunt fun

Can someone in prison serve on the board of the ABC? I hope so. Forget Pell and Abbott and Dean. I would appoint every peee doh currently in prison just so the staff recognize the level of hate contempt and disgust in which I happen to hold them one and all. I would appoint the lowest most vile people to be found. And I would be sure to choose old white males. Sadly Australia lacks anyone worse.

hive off country broadcasting as a service to the country people unit
Emergency service announcements feature on most free to air and locally sms messages for fires etc. Many regional listeners tune in to radio via phone app so abc is ineffective. Market reports are also freely available.
    No need for abc.

  22. struth

We know what the ABC is.
A bunch of lying, thieving left wing c….ts.

We know the Liberal party are not right wing while they bnot onlyyy tolerate it but support it.

We, in this and many other ways , just screams at us, absolutely smacks us about the head, letting us know we no longer have a functioning democracy, and really maybe for only a short time did we ever have one, but right now traitors and money grabbers are the majority of all those who are meant to represent us, and the unelected are calling the shots.

  23. My husband and I have watched the 24 Breakfast ABC program for some years. Although I disagreed with Virginia Trioli on most issues (& frequently told her so through emails), I mostly respected her guts and (erroneous) conviction. Her fellow broadcaster, Michael Rowlands, is a decent interviewer, though he too adheres to some weird ideas. But the replacement of Trioli, Lisa Millar, is a pathetic lightweight with a limited intellect.

As a result, we now rarely watch the ABC. We occasionally watch Australian Story & flip briefly to see if Leigh Sales is interviewing anybody worth watching. But that is it. We watch the the much feared Sky “after dark” for the intelligent discussions it provides, and now mostly turn to Sky Breakfast in the morning. So there it is – another ABC viewer lost, Ita.

The ABC are schoolyard bullies who love nothing better than taunting us from behind their taxpayer funded pulpits. Without the ABC, SKY would have nothing to enrage the quiet Australians.

  27. Elizabeth (Lizzie) Beare

Oh, forgot to include up above that we should keep on bombarding whatever politicians we can with our complaints about ABC bias and inability to stick to their Charter. Loud and constant complaints please from lots of squeaky wheels.

  28. Nighthawk the Elder

Thanks to the invention of the interwebs, there is no longer a need for a taxpayer funded broadcast service for the country folk.

Shut it down or flog it off, but we out in the sticks don’t have a requirement for the AB friggin’ C.

  29. Old Lefty

Your thoughts about reshaping the board are to the point, Whalehunt fun. As Gerard Henderson reminds us, the ABC, thanks to its Whitlam-appointed chairman’s support of Richard Neville and his appalling Lateline program in 1975, is the only institution in Australia that is officially and openly pro-p3d0. Chairpersons Spigelman and Milne declined Hendo’s invitation to retract their predecessor’s 1975 statement, and Spigelman treated it as an opportunity for some snarky anti-Catholic ‘humour’

  30. Old Lefty

The heading of an ABC on-line item this morning referred to critics of Thunberg as ‘troglodytes’. The ABC is sounding more like the late unlamented Pravda every day.

It is years since I watched an ABC news or current affairs broadcast, radio or TV.

We’ve seen separations of “production” and “transmission” in other industries.

Do the same with public broadcasting, and make the production/content funding contestable – that should neatly circumvent the argument that the ABC can’t be touched because it serves non-metropolitan audiences which the commercial broadcasters don’t. The same would apply to SBS.

  33. Mark M

Troglodytes – not to be confused with Proglodytes.

The shocking thing is it’s being done without a trace of hesitation.

  39. Tintarella di Luna

Greta Thunberg is an actress, that is all.

Like Obama, Greta doesn’t deserve a Nobel Prize but she will get one because … climate change is the current cult of worship without salvation.

What Greta does deserve though is an Oscar, for the being the greatest actor on planet Earth.

Greta has been schooled within an inch of her tight plaits and overalls. Greta is from a long line of theatricians, embued with theatre and in my view her theatrics and hysterics is all an act.

Avery good act akin to Lady Macbeth’s Out Damned Spot, or a frail on-the-edge Ophelia, she spruiks hysteria and depression and hopelessness. Thanks but no thanks Greta I ain’t buyin’.

Angela Shanahan has a good article on Greta’s pathos in the Oz; I spoke to a 16-year old boy who said he didn’t go to the climate-hoax demo because he said he thought it would be boring, three of his friends went and said that it was boring. I asked him if it had been held on a Saturday would his friends have gone, he said no way, and that’s the nub of it:

Angela’s article is here and I’ll post it in full:

Last week the great climate change strike by schoolchildren was on, and one intelligent young lady I know decided to go to the demonstration. She had permission, some of her other friends were going, they were only missing PE, and it might be fun to be at a demonstration — and there was the school dance that night.

But to her disappointment the demonstration was full of clueless primary school kids and their excited mothers. It was, in her words, pretty lame so she and the other girls went off to have their hair done for the dance.

That is definitely a normal, healthy teenager’s thought processes. But then there is Greta Thunberg. What good is the school dance, of fun, of youthful ephemera, if you are on the edge of extinction? “You should panic. Yes, it should be your constant state,” Greta cries, her young face straining to spit out imprecations of doom, a picture of sheer stress. Poor Greta appears far from being a normal teenager.

The adult pundits commenting on Greta’s riveting performance at the UN — and she was riveting — appeal to our rational sense of proportion about climate change because climate change should be a topic of rational discussion, informed by science and, dare I say it, history, and of course a child can’t know all about that.

But the Great Greta phenomenon is not about climate change, let alone the rational arguments about it. It is really about Greta and the girls who follow her. Oh yes, we should indeed be worried, even panic, not because of climate change but because of Greta. Greta is a sign of the times and Greta has a vast following among teenage girls.

This girl is the embodiment of all that is wrong with modern teenagers, especially girls. She is the embodiment of adolescent anxiety, a phenomenon that propels pathologies from drug taking to transgenderism and suicide, yet parents and teachers are holding up this child as a role model to young people and especially to girls. Adults who are complicit in this should be ashamed and, yes, afraid of the consequences.

Anxiety is a diagnosed illness affecting a huge number of young people. It can lead to suicide. The constant refrain among parents is: why does this happen in the richest, the most secure and the most privileged society that has existed? The really poor and the miserable in other places do not seem to suffer in this way. Perhaps it is because among the truly poor, adults and children alike are too busy trying to keep body and soul together. The children of the poor are too intent on bettering themselves. So, when we wonder why this happens, perhaps we need to look beyond ourselves.

We live in a materialistic spiritual wasteland, so the Greta phenomenon gives affirmation to people who have a sense that they are missing something. There is indeed something greater than themselves, an almost spiritual cause to hang on to, something that changes the way we live, think and behave.

However, the climate change cult, although often compared to a religious movement, is itself essentially a product of neo-Marxist materialism. So, unlike religion, which promises at least grace in the struggle leading to the salvation of the individual soul, the extreme cult of climate change looks only to the historical necessity of their triumph, saving the planet. It has much in common with the failed ideals of communism. The climate warriors constantly invoke science, but they are really ideologues.

Climate extremism is also essentially negative because it is a product of extreme fear and anxiety. The message is: we have only one chance or else it is doom, Gotterdammerung awaits. Negative messages are not good for kids.

This week in New York, Scott Morrison decried the anxiety imposed on children by climate change extremists. He also reminded people that there have been great existential disasters in the past and children have survived, although children are told that climate change is like no other great man-made disaster. Really?

World War II seems to have disappeared from the consciousness of most parents and teachers. Who remembers the great anxiety around the possibility of another world war, the imminent possibility of nuclear war? “Ban the bomb” was the slogan du jour of the generation who had come to maturity during World War II and had seen the newsreels of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. They were afraid.

Consequently, the threat of nuclear war hovered in the infant consciousness of the postwar generation. Then, as teenagers, all but a few became less preoccupied about it and, much like the girls who didn’t last at the school student strike, were too busy with exams and, naturally, having a good time to worry about possible nuclear annihilation.

The Prime Minister was right to criticise the anxiety-producing mass hysteria of the Greta phenomenon. Many children today are peculiarly vulnerable to that hysteria. Nor do I think most people realise how anxiety is naturally heightened in children. A small thing can turn into a big thing in a child’s mind, and a big thing can become enormous, almost beyond childish fearful comprehension.

There are grave consequences of imposing on impressionable children the burden of a threat to their existence, and climate change warriors, especially the adults who are complicit in this panic, should stop and think about what they are doing. By compounding the anxiety and fears of some young people, embodied in the image of a young girl called Greta Thunberg, they could be propelling the girl herself and many of her young followers to a dangerously unstable future.

  40. Tel

I don’t care for Greta but also do not shred her.

No one did “shred her”, that’s a total fantasy coming from the ABC.

With the Catholic school kids the Twitter mob were saying “punchable face” so go find any one, even one person who said similar things about Greta.

All anyone said was that she is young, not a climate scientist, has no knowledge about climate change other than what her parents and teachers have fed her, and therefore no particular reason to listen to what she says. The “10 years left to save the world” story is nothing even remotely similar to any of the science from the IPCC.

Also, that she is linked to Antifa in some way, which was a direct response to her and her parents photographing themselves in Antifa shirts then uploading. They want to wear the shirt, what do the expect people to think?

Greta has been schooled within an inch of her tight plaits and overalls. Greta is from a long line of theatricians, embued with theatre and in my view her theatrics and hysterics is all an act.

Greta has certainly been schooled to play it all up, no doubt about that. As Angela’s piece suggests though, even children schooled to act can be vulnerable to being taken over by the hype of it. Greta has been encouraged in this, so maybe she is acting, but I think it is a case of the act becoming the person, and the autistic tendencies she has are brought to the fore. Her ‘acted’ distress becomes genuine distress. It becomes a case of self-conviction, a sort of self-fulfilling prophecy.

This is the sort of self-deception, a quality of mind, that French structuralist anthropologist Claude Levi-Strauss (a serious thinker in the 1960’s) noted regarding traditional sorcerers and faith healers, who may use all sorts of tricks and gadgets to produce their results, but still essentially believe in the efficacy of their ‘magic’.

Playing around with the emotions of an autistic child is an evil thing to do. I have an autistic grandson and he is always on a knife edge emotionally, quite self-obsessed, easily engaged in fantasies of grandeur and prone to frequent breakdowns of his fragile persona. Just like Greta.

  44. Twostix

Use of teens like this to snatch control of of politics from the mass of older, wiser adults and place it into the hands of a minority group of heavily controlled, emotional teenagers and early 20 somethings has a long history.

Usually it is met with a firm no and fizzles out. When it works – when adults are unconfident or timid and weak and start letting their school aged children tell them how it’s going to be: mass misery for a nation is never far behind.

  45. Percy Popinjay

The Prime Minister was right to criticise the anxiety-producing mass hysteria

In his own fat stupid waffling insincere prevaricating manner. The man is an embarrassing imbecile.

So which politician is going to close this verminous shithole

No such creature exists. Every single day that the ALPBC continues to blight our lives hardens my resolve to mercilessly pound it and its pathetic creepy enablers into ever more infinitesimal pieces. They’ll get theirs.

As of this posting, the ABC “news” website still returns no mention of Carl ‘Nick’ Beech. The top result for this search is still:

Antarctic coasts melted by warmer oceans

A search of the same site for ‘operation midland’ only returns the original stories from 2015, the top one being the allegations against Edward Heath, flatly incredible at the time and now completely debunked.

I saw this pairing many times on the commute home from the city on the day of the ‘strike’ in Melbourne. They were just like the parent/child groups you see coming back from the Royal Melbourne Show, except they were clutching home-made placards rather than showbags.
