    No.
One pays to make something go away.
    Regardless of liability.

It’s worth noting that the rationale for raising the CCP flag at Vicpol was to promote multiculturalism. In other words, multiculturalism is now openly about allowing inroads for foreign regimes, into the government and security services.

Employers would be given tax exemptions to pay the private health insurance of workers under a $1.2bn, five-year plan developed by health funds to stem the exodus of young people from the private system and limit premium rises.

I can’t help but feel this would drive down and keep wages down even more.
Also never convinced young people need health insurance at all – what on earth for? And if they have a serious chronic problem they won’t be working anyway.

It sounds like a scam of some sort.

Josh Frydenberg has declared Australia is not echoing Donald Trump’s view of globalism after Scott Morrison used a major foreign policy speech to warn his government’s international engagement will be “squarely driven by Australia’s national interests”.

The Prime Minister also paraphrased his mentor John Howard, saying as Australians “we will decide our interests and the circumstances in which we seek to pursue them”.

Opposition defence spokesman Richard Marles said he worried about these sorts of comments and labelled them “nationalistic talk”.
“There are a whole lot of challenges that face the world today which require global solutions, climate change being one of them,” Mr Marles told Nine’s Today show.

“The sort of almost nationalistic talk that we hear at the moment in the speech last night, but also that we heard from the US President a few weeks ago, I actually think is not the right tone at this moment in time.”

There is nothing at all creepy about a Victorian police branch holding a CCP flag raising ceremony and singing Mao’s national anthem, attended by party front member and agent of influence Gladys Liu. All perfectly normal.

That should have been labelled as Step 2.
Step 3. Anyone who doesn’t attend or sing loud enough, disappears.

    Bruce of Newcastle raised it.

    Yes I did.

I was irked by the hypocrisy of the ABC (whose story it is) and the Left in general who champion the extermination of babies in the womb. I do not include you Numbers as I know you aren’t a supporter of that.

The ABC would cheerfully support mothers killing their unborn children if that child was determined to suffer from cerebral palsy, as they do with children who suffer from spina bifida. The latter could benefit from such prostheses, or ones like them, as that lucky kid and his family in the story.

The unstated thing in the story is that the kid likely would never have been born if cerebral palsy was as easy to spot in the womb as spina bifida is.

That is what I was intending to point out. I do not resile from it at all. It would be nice if the Left would recant their support for abortion and instead put in place assistance of children who need it, whether it be adoption programmes for unwanted babies or medical support methods like the kid in the story.

Interesting article in October Quadrant Magazine – ex-Federal Court Judge Stuart Lindsay, like me a born Brittisher turned Aussie, is dismayed, like me there too, by the way things are turning in Britain. He decides to interview Anne Marie Waters, an Irish lesbian woman in her thirties who has started a new Party called “For Britain”, which has now been included with Geert Wilders “Identity and Democracy Alliance” of European dissenting parties. She is fierce on the cruelty of Halal which permeates British meat production, and very intent on standing up for Britishness as a heritage and Britain as a nation. A feminist but not of the ‘new’ sort, she is appalled at the way in which women are less secure in Britain since Eslaam’s rise in that nation, and the ways in which women living in Britain as citizens are still subject to religious subordination. A parallel in some ways to Kiralee Smith in Australia, not mentioned by Murray in this piece. Why, asks Murray, are British men leaving the heavy lifting to petite women like Anne Marie? Stuart Murray makes no bones of the fact that he is charmed by her spirit and verve.

Anyway, it’s a thoughtful interview giving insights into how the broad right tends, like the left, to fragment into disparate political parties and how a call to national pride in the way things once were, and might yet be again, still rouses people, especially in the rust-belts and farmlands of Britain. As someone who’s known the left well, and who has a particular interest in the longue duree of culture and sentiment in Britain, it’s clear why they see nationalism as something they need to attack and destroy. It does not fit a world-wide socialist agenda riding in on the coat-tails of climatic nonsense.

    Anne Marie:

Stuart, I spent years being a Labour activist in London, standing for elections, writing their speeches an campaigning for them. I know who these people are. I know they have no principles. I know how corrupt they are …

Yep. It really is whatever it takes.

Really, someone should give teachers Matt Ridley’s chapter on Malthus, from Ridley’s book ‘The Evolution of Everything’. He absolutely nails the problems, and evil, of the Malthusian perspective. Then maybe teachers could start teaching children some real truths about the world, rather than leftist fabrications about over-population and doom and climatic ’emergencies’ that rob them of life beyond their teens.

(I put this reply to JB in the “China Celebrates”, but thought it might also be worthy of a place on the Open Fred.)
There are eerie parallels with Japan in the late 30’s, down to the trade wars.
Both Red China and Japan were attempting to create their own Empires based on their own perceived superiority.
Both were dishonest actors on the world stage – demanding the rest of the world live up to rules neither country is prepared to do themselves, and playing the victim/race card whenever they were caught out.
Both feel insecure due to their lack of guaranteed access to raw materials at prices they would prefer to pay. Both treat their own citizens as economic units with no rights to speak of.
…and both have a disarmed populace.
Japan thought a limited strategic blow would keep the West out of its hair whilst it gobbled up China, but we didn’t play the scenario they wanted.
Will Red China make the same mistake, and will they go nuclear from the very beginning?

  55. Elizabeth (Lizzie) Beare

Attapus hit on me two nights ago, like a naughty child who didn’t know when to stop. We’d been playing and it all got rather out of hand when I called halt and sat down, and he wanted to continue. Now I have tooth and claw marks on my left arm as an expression of his displeasure, slowly healing. The glass of wine I was holding in my right hand went everywhere, and was then spread through the house as a drenched Attapuss fled in and out of various rooms from Hairy’s justifiably angry pursuit. The intention was to show Attapuss who was boss, but as we know, cats won’t be herded, nor obey. I forgave him but he and Hairy are still in standoff mode.

Me? I am still finding stray red spots after the pandemonium and clean up.
I doubt I’ve ever experienced such a major spill, I say to emphasise its extent.
Hairy begs to differ and reminds me of the paint pot episode, and several times when our guests at table have had to be introduced to new clothing. Persian rug will need a professional clean now though; there is that.

‘Should you decide to stir up either or both of the minister, presumably the Attorney General, or the HRC, start with an email, then follow up with a letter sent by registered post. That will prevent the “correspondence went astray” excuse from being used.’

Cassie, or anyone else wishing to take this further without being eligible to lodge a formal complaint might want to refer to the following section of the AHRC Act in relation to the Commission’s responsibilities

20(1) the Commission shall perform the functions referred to in paragraph 11(1)(f) when:

    (a) the Commission is requested to do so by the Minister; or…..

    (c) it appears to the Commission to be desirable to do so.

It seems to me that s. 20(1)(c) allows a citizen to draw the attention of the Commission to a prima facie case of discrimination. The Commission is not, of course, obliged to respond, but my own experience with it – for what that’s worth – is that its officials are fairly conscientious if by no mean always right.

The prima facie grounds for an approach to the Commission – directly or via the Minister is good old s.18C of the Racial Discrimination Act, 1975:

    (1) It is unlawful for a person to do an act, otherwise than in private, if:
    (a) the act is reasonably likely, in all the circumstances, to offend, insult, humiliate or intimidate another person or a group of people; and
    (b) the act is done because of the race, colour or national or ethnic origin of the other person or of some or all of the people in the group.

Alexander Downer needs to spill on his role in the attack on Donald Trump

Miranda Devine Daily Telegraph October 1, 2019

Two days later, Papadopoulos was phoned by a contact at the Israeli embassy in London, “political officer” Christian Cantor, who wanted to introduce him to his Australian girlfriend, Erika Thomson, an assistant to Downer. Papadopoulos claims when he met her, Erika badmouthed Trump as a “menace … He’ll be a pariah. No one will ever take him seriously. Downing Street hates him.” She said if Trump won the election, “the world is going to coalesce against him”.

A few days later he wound up on the front page of The Times calling on British PM David Cameron to apologise for denigrating Trump’s immigration policy. Three days later, Erika emailed to say Downer was “eager to get acquainted” and talk about “US-Australian relations”. Four days later the three gathered at the Kensington Wine Rooms. Downer, “oozing aggression”, told Papadopoulos: “Tell your boss [Trump] he needs to leave my friend David Cameron alone.”

Downer said “he’s connected to a British security firm called Hakluyt. He boasts about being a board member … He tells me he’s very pro-Clinton [Hillary] and he hates Obama”.

Then, according to Papadopoulos, Downer said: “I used to be the UN envoy to Cyprus and what you are talking about in Cyprus is wrong and it’s a threat to British interests.”

Papadopoulos was bemused. “Isn’t this guy supposed to be representing Australian interests?”

Never a turkey shoot with a bunch of fascists who have dozens of nuclear tipped ICBMs.
On such matters the climatistas have found something new to moan about.

Nuclear war between India and Pakistan could kill up to 125 million and launch a global climate catastrophe (2 Oct)

As many as 125 million people would die within days if India and Pakistan waged a nuclear war, according to a scientific study released Wednesday.

That’s more than the death toll during all six years of World War II.

“Such a war would threaten not only the locations where bombs might be targeted but the entire world,” said study co-author Alan Robock, a professor of environmental sciences at Rutgers University.

In the weeks and months after the explosions, a global climate catastrophe could follow, triggering mass starvation as crops failed across the planet.

Where have I heard all this before? I feel like being caught in a time loop. Maybe they’re angling for a new research contract on nuke-driven climate change once the global warming thing finally expires.

Speaking of Their Greta, I got this into today’s Townsville paper…

    The Editor

How can you be sure someone is an actress? They have an IMDb page, like Greta Thunberg does .

How does a young actress just under 17 years old get such wide-ranging exposure? She has a full-time coach, in Greta’s case that’s Luisa-Marie Neubauer of the ONE Foundation.

Where does the ONE Foundation get the money to pay Ms Neubauer? That comes from left-wing billionaires, including Bill and Melinda Gates and George Soros.

How does a youth get a gig speaking at the UN? I spent a week searching UN sites for a mechanism for that. There isn’t one. Billionaire backers are required.

Have youths spoken at UN climate summits before? Yes, David Suzuki’s daughter addressed the Rio Earth Summit in 1992.

Are “men” or “deniers” intimidated by Greta? In your dreams. But we sincerely dislike activists who indoctrinate and weaponise youth. Greta is being used as both a sword and a shield.

Why have the left resorted to weaponising youth (exactly as Hitler did)? Because none of their scary climate predictions have eventuated and people are bored with it.

Why do they persist with it? After losing WWII and then the USSR collapsing the global-socialists invested everything in a soft take-over via the UN and climate scares.

So does global warming from CO2 have any basis in reality? None whatsoever. Their “scientists” claim solar output never varies without even attempting to explain Earth’s regular ice-ages.

Do you know why the UN’s Agenda 21 was renamed Agenda 2030? Their plan was for world control by 2021 but the schedule is slipping which is why the new focus is on 2030.

    UNexit now.

Today I have been shocked at reports of two separate serious anti-Sem itic incidents in Victorian State Schools.

Following my conversation with Dvir Abramovich from ADC AntiDefamation Commission I have written to the Minister for Education calling for a full Independent investigation into these incidents.

No child should be vilified based on their religious or ethnic background and the Victorian Government has a responsibility to ensure every students safety in their school community.

The ABC would cheerfully support mothers killing their unborn children if that child was determined to suffer from cerebral palsy, as they do with children who suffer from spina bifida.

Some people here were recently sympathetic to the termination of a foetus with Mosaic Trisomy 16. You said nothing about it at the time. Do you have a view on that?

Happy to give you more time. Doesn’t need to be a long explanatory memorandum. Given how earnest your anti-abortion message was, you could say this again:

I was irked by the hypocrisy …

And then say that you are against terminations for Mosaic Trisomy 16. And maybe that you should have spoken up about it a little while back here.

  83. Mother Lode

The baby eater must have been a plant. Gotta be. No one is that crazy.

    Epic trolling.

The idea of eating babies is novel and dovetails neatly with the recent push on abortions and how foetuses are just clumps of cells (or protein).

On the other hand, there are always people who are just nutters, and this woman is just one woman. She is not the Dimocrat platform. In a place like NY you can find people who think aliens and the CIA are controlling people with mind rays by just kicking over a rock or two, and this woman would have ‘found herself’ – no need to track her down.

And to these deranged loonies it would seem that they have finally found a home with the garrulous pig-ignorant harridan AOC.

You read about one deranged person and shudder, but there’s always one who is just as bad or worse.

Federal investigators were closing in on Greg Lindberg. FBI agents confronted the North Carolina insurance tycoon last year as they probed whether he tried to bribe a state regulator. In March, officials obtained a sealed warrant for his arrest. His attorneys were negotiating his surrender.

Mr. Lindberg also had something else on his mind—the comings and goings of a number of women he was dating, interested in dating or, in at least one case, cultivating as an egg donor for his future offspring.

Mr. Lindberg paid for dozens of surveillance operatives to tail the women up to 24 hours a day, taking surreptitious photos and sometimes putting GPS trackers on their vehicles, according to former security staffers and copies of internal reports produced by these operatives that were reviewed by The Wall Street Journal.

“Information of Concern: Romantic Encounter,” read one such report just days after the arrest warrant was issued. Lindberg operatives had followed a Los Angeles woman as she met a man at a bar, then to his house, where she left “in the early morning hours.”

One Lindberg agent spied on a different woman by secretly enrolling in a school she attended, while his staff kept tabs on yet another by renting an apartment across the hall from hers, according to the reports and former staffers.

Also falling under such scrutiny were a former Miss Texas International and a Sports Illustrated swimsuit model.

Mr. Lindberg’s unorthodox pursuit of romantic interests is a previously unreported sign of the entrepreneur’s lavish lifestyle since he started acquiring life insurers in 2014. He bought a private jet and luxury properties, and just a few weeks after the Federal Bureau of Investigation confronted him about its bribery probe, he paid about $40 million for a 214-foot yacht.

The Israeli flag, while new, is based on symbolism which are millennia old. The Chinese flag represents symbolism which is not even a century old.
The Jewish community in Caulfield is probably more supportive of Israel than the Chinese community is of the current China.
So, of course it is every bit as appropriate to do that, and, surely, no one on the Left will oppose such a flag-raising ceremony, including singing the Israeli national anthem. It’s not like anyone on the Left suddenly will discover that singing the national anthem of a foreign county and raising its flag has some *political*, rather than just cultural, aspects, right? So, you will be doing all of that next year, right, Vic Police?

On this similar theme, when you put on the TV here in the US you will come across recruiting ads for the military. The ones we’ve been seeing talk about ‘warriors wanted’. They show soldiers fighting and shooting all sorts of things. They most certainly do not look like ads for a sort Peace Corps foreign aid worker who happens to wear a helmet. These are ads for fighting men and women, full stop.

When I saw them I thought immediately of Australia, and again not in a good way. Military ads in Australia strike me as having been fashioned by some diversity guru who misunderstood ‘warrior’ to mean ‘social justice warrior’. At times they seemed pitched at the caring, sharing segment of the population, those who might learn some nifty computer skills on joining. I hate those Australian ads for their implicit affirmative action and diversity overtones.

People think that the AOC ‘Eat The Babies’ lady is a plant…

..but could she actually just part of a new push within the climate cult?

With cannibalism support, climate change activists have lost their minds

Climate change activism went from paper straws to Hannibal Lecter way too quickly.

If you had guessed a few weeks ago that climate alarmism would jump from plastic straw bans to directives against having children to the promotion of literal cannibalism, it would have sounded like a ridiculous slippery slope fallacy. But here we are.

A couple of authors argued in an op-ed published by Newsweek that humans might want to break their pesky cannibalism taboo in the future.

“We suspect that we could adapt to human flesh if need be,” the academics wrote. “Some philosophers have argued that burying the dead could be wasteful in the context of the fight against world hunger — but there are much more palatable alternatives on the table than a haunch of human.”

As if that little endorsement of eating human flesh weren’t macabre enough, a Swedish scientist last week advocated for the use of cannibalism to help curb climate change, according to the Epoch Times.

The researcher, Magnus Söderlund, said humans should overcome the “conservative” taboo against cannibalism because it may be necessary for our survival once climate change has decimated the planet. Yes, you read that right. We should be OK with eating each other because the climate may someday require it.

Even he was squeamish about the possibility of applying his own doctrine, though. In response to a question about whether he’d eat human flesh himself, Söderlund said: “I feel somewhat hesitant but to not appear overly conservative … I’d have to say … I’d be open to at least tasting it.”

So, there are a couple of options here. Either the Newsweek authors and this poor, misguided scientist think hyperbole will scare people into cutting their carbon footprint, which definitely won’t work, or they genuinely believe their own ivory tower drivel, and they think the concerns of the planet outweigh basic human principles of dignity and morality.

This is the scarier of the two interpretations. As critic Sonny Bunch wrote for the Washington Post, environmentalists make great on-screen villains because their supposedly benevolent machinations are designed to inhibit, or even damage, our lives:

“Environmentalists make a useful villain because their malevolence can be obscured by a patina of reasonableness. Global warming and other manmade problems are going to end the world if we don’t do something — so just about anything is justified!”

The problem of climate change, as significant as it may be, does not necessitate the destruction of norms and mores. Yet climate activists have decided to use rising global temperatures as an excuse to demand fealty to all of their supposedly climate-saving wishes.

This week, author and not-a-climate-expert Jonathan Franzen wrote for the New Yorker that climate change necessitates a sort of war-time mentality on our part. We “must accept the reality of climate change and have faith in the extreme measures taken to combat it” and “be permanently terrified by hotter summers and more frequent natural disasters.” Every day, he writes, “instead of thinking about breakfast, they have to think about death.”

Well, if you followed the advice of the Swedish scientist, you would be thinking about death at breakfast.

It doesn’t make you a climate denier to push back on the narrative that climate change is so dire it requires that we reframe our entire political structures and systems of thinking. Some changes are reasonable, and paper straws are one thing. But cannibalism is beyond the pale, and any attempt to say otherwise is neither clever nor useful. It’s ghoulish, and it’s what happens when you make preserving the climate your ultimate standard of morality.

Cannibalism is not new amongst non-Islander types.

Soldiers of Raymond IV of Toulouse reported it amongst tribesmen in Asia Minor during the First Crusade.

It was the norm rather than the exception for shipwrecked/cast adrift sailors for centuries.

It was mentioned in European chronicles during the Great Famine of 1315-1317.

All these things were, I will posit, the result of emergencies. Live or die. As opposed to climate change, where this is actively proposed as a preventative measure against something we do not have control over.

    Much like Homer’s Tiger Rock.

Two-time failed presidential candidate Hillary Clinton accused President Donald Trump of wrongdoing because he suggested that China investigate Joe Biden’s alleged abuse of power when he was vice president.

Hillary quipped on Twitter: “Someone should inform the president that impeachable offenses committed on national television still count.”

Obviously, Clinton is suggesting that Trump did something improper by saying China should investigate corruption allegedly committed by a former Vice President.

The irony is that in May, Hillary went on MSNBC and directly asked China for help in releasing Trump’s tax returns.

“China, if you’re listening, why don’t you get Trump’s tax returns?” Clinton cooed on the Rachel Maddow show. “I’m sure our media would richly reward you.”

Hillary said “since Russia is clearly backing Republicans, why don’t we [Democrats] ask China to back us? Let’s have a great power contest. And let’s get the Chinese on [our side].”

It’s different when THEY do it…
