I have to wonder, out loud, if the debasement of our public discourse by Donald Trump has actually infected both ends of the political spectrum. If so, it is both deeply ironic and tragic.

Why women sleep better with pets than their partners
Melbourne women get a better night’s sleep with their furry friends than they do with their partners, and TV’s Bondi Vet explains why.

Exclusive: It’s the news that will make animal lovers swoon.

Sleeping with your pets is officially good for your physical and mental health, and research has found women actually get a better night’s sleep with their furry friend than they do with their partners.

Dr Kate Adams, from the Ten show Bondi Vet, told News Corp sleeping in the same bed as their animals makes owners — particularly women — less anxious and stressed.

The US study, Dr Adams says, shows that for women, having their animals by their side at night makes them feel more safe and secure from potential intruders, leading to a better night’s sleep.

Dogs are also less likely to disrupt a woman’s sleep than a partner and pet owners tend to have a more consistent sleep routine and go to bed earlier, the research revealed.

“A lot of it is down to security and feeling like you can rely more on your dog than a human partner, Dr Adams says.

“As a result, women get a better night’s sleep when they have their pet in their bedroom.”

While such thinking doesn’t permeate the minds of all baby boomers — apologies for the many reasonable people of that age — it does appear to be disproportionately prevalent among those with a platform to express themselves.

    Wel, duh!

Otherwise you wouldn’t know what they think. And how on earth would you know what those without access to a “platform” think?

Daniel Greenfield takes on newest Dem candidate Michael Bloomberg…

Bloomborg is a short man – the little tyrant… he who would be emperor. He’d be an excellent candidate for the Barb De Niro high-fashion platform footware*. Bloomborg is part of the globalist swamp. He’s pumped billions into UN “projects”, particularly anti-tobacco. He’s already a UN Ambassador for Non-Communicable Diseases and a UN Special Envoy For Climate Action. The finger-wagging, egomaniacal pipsqueak wants lifestyle control over the “deplorables” a la eugenics – anti-tobacco/alcohol, dietary limits, exercise – and the elimination of fossil fuels. If that wasn’t enough, he has the charisma of a de-hydrated turd.

What the hell is a climate-vulnerable country?

  15. We were evaced last night. Kicked out really. Fair enough given the circumstances.
We were reasonably well organised. We had taken a couple of loads of important stuff to the rellies place during the day, and we had the car packed with immediate living items, and the dog, and the——, nope, not the cat. The bastard animal had taken off when we opened the garage door.
Eventually found the idiot. It was a close run thing though, the smoke was becoming disturbing.
We called into the local evac center to see if anyone wanted a real bed for the night. It was very impressive. Local mobile coffee bloke and a number of restaurants were there, mountains of pet food, medics, folks from the library entertaining the kids. Country folk are good folk.
Not allowed back yet but a firery called to say that the houses are OK but the gardens are pretty much wrecked.
I imagine that our worthless council, who are partly responsible for this mess, (no fuel reduction burning), will make us shoot cows, or abort kids or some such primitive rite to appease whatever hateful deity these morons pray to. There is nothing more anti-democratic than a country shire dominated by a rural city containing a CAE pretending to be a university.

    The wrong type of snow

“The wrong type of snow” or “the wrong kind of snow” is a phrase coined by the British media in 1991 after severe weather caused disruption to many of British Rail’s services. A British Rail press release implied that management and its engineering staff were unaware of different types of snow. Henceforth in the United Kingdom, the phrase became a byword for euphemistic and pointless excuses.[1]

Dear Mrs Court, honouring a homophobic zealot is problematic for us

    Peter FitzSimons
    Columnist and author
    November 9, 2019 — 1.00am

If only they could make me the media and communications director of Tennis Australia for a day, this is the letter I would send:

    Dear Mrs Court,

On behalf of Tennis Australia, I note with interest your recent comments concerning the approach of the 50th anniversary of your grand slam, and your desire that you be accorded the same kind of public celebration we gave to Rod Laver for his own recent 50th anniversary, to wit: “They brought Rod in from America. If they think I’m just going to turn up, I don’t think that is right. I think I should be invited. I would hope they would pay my way to come like they paid for his, and honour me. If they are not going to do that, I don’t really want to come.”

    You went on.

“I think Tennis Australia should sit and talk with me. They have never phoned me. Nobody has spoken to me directly about it. I think they would rather not confront it.”

Mrs Court, this is a rather difficult situation, as you will appreciate. Once again, we congratulate you on your many tennis achievements – more indeed, than any female player, ever. But we are, frankly, bemused by any suggestion that we haven’t honoured you. You’d surely agree the Margaret Court Arena is an extraordinary honour? And you would agree that our resistance – so far – against all calls to change the name because of your intensely unpleasant homophobic remarks, is a sign of our enduring goodwill?

Which brings us to the most delicate part of all …

You will recall a couple of years ago citing the Bible as you proclaimed that the only legitimate love is that between a man and a woman. Your starting point was that when it comes to the LGBT+ community, we are not all equal beneath the Southern Cross, because they are the work of “the devil”. This not only trashed the gays among your followers, it trashed you among our many followers, and it meant that honouring a homophobic zealot became problematic for us. For after you assert those with a different sexuality to you are not your equal, it is frankly a bit much for you to say you want equal treatment to Rod Laver who has never brought anything but honour to the game and his name.

At Tennis Australia we have no religious views whatsoever, and welcome everyone. Nevertheless, seeing as the Bible seems to be the only reference point you recognise, in the face of your loud attacks on us I feel I must cite St Paul’s advice in 1 Timothy 2:12, where the great Saint says: “I do not permit a woman to teach or to have authority over a man, she must be silent.”

    ….

I trust you see our point? At Tennis Australia, we believe in equality, and inclusion. For us to publicly honour those who trash those values is problematic. And for you to ask for equal honouring to Rod Laver, when it goes against the teachings of the very Bible you use to trash gays is … a bit much, frankly. And yes, I realise you may find it hard when people criticise you and ignore your achievements in tennis simply because they don’t like the views you have chosen to express. But that might be how the gays feel, when you discount and criticise them, simply because of the sexuality they were born with? The alternative to having no tolerance for intolerance is to tolerate it, in which case nothing would change. And we are changing, in tune with the world.

Nevertheless, we offer our regards, regardless.

volunteer for the New York Metro Suicide Hotline service was shocked when she received a call from former Secretary Hillary Clinton. She was even more shocked when Clinton tried to order a suicide from the service like a pizza.

“She was very cordial,” the volunteer who declined to be identified said. “She said, ‘I’d like to order a suicide.’

“I told her, ‘That’s not how it works, ma’am,’ but she refused to take a no for an answer. She kept saying, ‘Do you know who I am? I’m Hillary f**king Clinton. I’m the President of the United States. Are you trying to tell me that you’re going to deny me my Constitutional right of accommodation?’”

The volunteer was highly skeptical but she took down Clinton’s “order” and delivered it to the NYPD.

Rumors have circulated about the Clintons having something to do with the suicide of Jeffrey Epstein, but those have been debunked since Epstein confessed to killing himself on August 10 in a New York jail.

Peter – I am not sure that was me, a link would be useful.

My view is a mini ice age is likely, that is in keeping with the data. A Dalton v2.0. The Russians – Dr Abdussamatov and Dr Zharkova – have made pretty solid forecasts of that.

Ed Berry with a few points on why alarmism is the nadir of science:

Those 11,000 so-called “scientists” don’t know a freaking thing about climate science. If they were MD’s, they would be to using leaches to suck your blood. Today, they are opportunists who suck your money and your freedom. They are guilty of climate malpractice. There are not 11,000 real climate scientists on the planet.

    So, who are these people?

The public believes “climate change protesters” are climate experts. They believe those who “care about the environment” are climate experts. They believe Gretta is a climate expert.

Universities train students to be ecologists, environmentalists, climate activists, and socialists. These students graduate thinking they are climate experts. Governors appoint them to climate expert panels. The government gives them money. Congress, state legislatures, lawyers, and the media think these graduates are climate experts. Thus, they get the headlines. But they are not climate experts.

Climate change is a subject of physics. Without physics, there is no climate science. But who wants to study physics? It’s much easier to be a climate alarmist. Besides, the where the money is.

Here’s some basic science truth to help you decide who to believe about climate change.

First, no one can prove a theory is true. Climate alarmists have a theory. Their theory is that human carbon emissions cause global warming, global warming causes climate change, and climate change causes bad stuff to happen.

Then they claim the bad stuff PROVES human carbon causes climate change. Isn’t that what you read in the news every day?

In logic, their argument is called the “argument of ignorance” or “affirming the consequent.”

Aristotle explained their false illogic 2300 years ago. Here is a parallel version of this illogic that you will readily understand:
If Bill Gates owns Fort Knox, then Bill Gates is rich.
Bill Gates is rich. So, Bill Gates owns Fort Knox.

The point is events do not prove their cause. Claims that bad stuff happens does not prove we caused it. Get it?

Change during the interglacials is generally gradual as we have seen with the climate variations over the last 2 millennia. Things like the MWP, LIA etc were not only relatively mild but gradual in onset. Change at the cusps of interglacials and glacials and within glacials are much quicker and vastly more ferocious as Heinrich and Dansgaard–Oeschger Events show.

Humanity has lived in literally the best this planet has to offer over the 20thC which makes the lies of the alarmists even more egregious because we should be now preparing for worse times to come by weather proofing our society.

This is shaping up as the year’s greatest dumb money sting: Kerry Stokes and his top-rating Seven Network versus the leftard zombies who run the Ten Network:

Under the new broadcast deal, 10 is paying $100 million over five-years for Digital/Broadcast rights to the four-day Melbourne Cup Carnival. A dramatic increase on what Seven has been paying in the past. SEVEN has retained broadcast rights to a number of other key racing events including the Sydney Autumn Racing Carnival, Caulfield Cup, Caulfield Guineas, Cox Plate, The Everest, and the Magic Millions.
Bizarrely SEVEN has also retained the rights to broadcast the Melbourne Cup on its dedicated Racing.com channel. However in a deal revealed by this website last year, respected broadcasters Bruce McAvaney and Hamish McLachlan have been blocked from appearing on the Racing.com Melbourne Cup coverage.

So Seven didn’t give up the rights to broadcast the Melbourne Cup carnival, which it still broadcasts on Channel 78 under its joint venture with racing.com.

And, even though it bought daytime ratings it could only dream about until now, the Ten Network has completely botched its coverage of the cup carnival:

This year, 1.44 million metro viewers tuned in to watch the race itself, won by Vow and Declare, while 1.13 million watched the presentation.
By comparison, the 2002 broadcast reached 2.5 million Australians at its peak. It fell below 2 million viewers in 2017 and hasn’t managed to climb back up since.
Last year, people were more interested in watching The Block, the Commonwealth Games and the footy finals than the fillies.
Seven’s final Melbourne Cup last year brought in 1.836 million despite the event being marred by protests and a horse dying on the track.
In 2017, Seven managed to pull in 1.79 million across the metro market while 2016’s had 1.98 million.

    Well played, Kerry Stokes!

Another pivotal point is that increased inflammation not only occurs in depression but also in multiple other psychiatric diseases including bipolar disorder, anxiety disorders, personality disorders, and schizophrenia. These data suggest that inflammation is transdiagnostic in nature, occurring in subpopulations of patients within a number of psychiatric disorders.

Inflammation has specific effects on the brain and behavior

As we gain more insight into how inflammation affects the brain, it is becoming increasingly clear that there is a surprising specificity on the impact of inflammation on behavior. Such specificity is apparent in the neurocircuits and neurotransmitter systems that appear to be most affected by inflammation both in the context of the administration of inflammatory stimuli or in association with inflammatory markers in patients with depression or other psychiatric disorders (Figure). For example, administration of the inflammatory cytokine interferon (IFN)-α to patients or administration of typhoid vaccination or endotoxin to healthy volunteers has shown that inflammation affects subcortical and cortical brain circuits associated with motivation and motor activity as well as cortical brain regions associated with arousal, anxiety, and alarm.2-4

The State feeds anxiety and depression precursor chemicals posing as food to vast prediabetic wymynsys vegynsys herds. Then prescribes extra chemical medications/supplements taken daily for life as a short term cover-up.

If he hadn’t taken the course of action he did, it’s highly likely that the first and only victim of Australian fragging in that conflict would have been you.

Every time you post you display your ignorance and arrogance.
Fragging occurred on at least one occasion during the Australian deployment, when on 23rd November 1969, 61905, Private Peter Denzil Allen, killed Lieutenant Robert Tom Convery by placing an M26 fragmentation grenade beside the officer’s bed whilst he was asleep.
Allen was a regular soldier – a volunteer.
He was subsequently convicted of Convery’s murder and served ten years and eight months of a life sentence in Risdon Prison.
Another incident occurred on Christmas Day 1970, when Sergeants Allan Brian Moss and John Wallace Galvin were shot dead and Sergeant Frederick Edwin Bowtell injured when Private Paul Ramon Ferriday opened fire with his rifle into the Sergeant’s Mess of the Royal Australian Army Service Corps at Nui Dat, South Vietnam after an all-day drinking session. Ferriday was convicted on two counts of manslaughter and one of assault with a weapon, and served eight years of a ten-year sentence. Ferriday was also a regular soldier – a volunteer.

Used to see that a lot in the early 1990’s in Viet Nam and Cambodia. Not always a good idea, especially if you had just seen the delivery of large chunks of ice, covered in brown dust, organic content unknown.

At the time, the alternative beer serving option was very fresh beer, more a “live ale”, decanted from a keg which was kept “cool” by draping wet hessian sacks over it. In the summer months in Hanoi, such kegs of un-pasteurized brew had a VERY short shelf life. Amoebic Dysentery is NOT your friend.

In over twenty years of work and travel there, the only time I got really sick there was a dose of “rice-wine flu”, contracted whilst trying to “keep up” with the locals during one vaguely memorable Friday night “drinkies” / “tag-team-toasting”session.

So why does the pressure for women to partner up remain so rife? There is little evidence that, for them, being in a couple is necessarily better than being single in terms of life expectancy, happiness or health. It is, however, in men’s interests for women to believe that they should partner up. Studies have repeatedly shown that a man is likely to live longer and enjoy better mental and physical health if he is married to a woman. It’s little wonder that centuries of PR in a male-run world have been dedicated to teaching women that they are sad or somehow deficient if they remain alone.

The reality is, without decent men, women and children would be fair game.

Greens turn on the PM over fire emergency

Deputy Prime Minister Michael McCormack has pledged federal support for fire victims.

“The situation as it is at the moment, as it is unfolding, is very, very worrying,” Mr McComack told reporters in the Riverina, NSW.

He said for the more than 100 homes that have been destroyed, the government will act under emergency procedures with regards to financing for those people who are now homeless.

“Those people will not be left without shelter. Those people will not be left without cash,” he said.

Meanwhile, Greens spokesman for the climate crisis Adam Bandt in a statement said he was “deeply saddened” by the loss of life.

“Our hearts go out to all the families and communities impacted, as well as the firefighters tackling these terrifying scenes,” Mr Bandt said. But he then turned on Mr Morrison, saying he “bears some responsibility” and must apologise to the communities impacted.

“Scott Morrison has not got the climate crisis under control,” he said.

“Let me be clear. I’m not saying the prime minister is directly responsible for the fires and the loss of life, but he has contributed to making it more likely that these kinds of tragedies will occur.”

Giant Greta Thunberg mural to watch over San Francisco’s downtown

San Francisco, a city that prides itself on its eco-consciousness, will soon have a giant likeness of Swedish climate activist Greta Thunberg gazing upon its downtown, reminding residents to respect the planet.
The Argentine muralist Andres Iglesias, who signs his art with the pseudonym Cobre, is expected to complete the project in the central Union Square neighborhood by next week, SFGate reported. Cobre also painted a revered mural of the comedian Robin Williams that has since been demolished.
“Climate change is real,” Cobre told SFGate. “This girl Greta is awesome and she knows what she’s doing. I hope with this mural people will realize we have to take care of the world.”
The environmental not-for-profit group One Atmosphere reportedly reached out to Cobre after the mural of Williams was slated to come down and just as Cobre was searching for a building for his next project. The organization is said to be supplying all the paint for the project.

NSW is burning, people are dead (possibly as many as dozen) and homes are lost as heavy fuel loads lead to crown fires. Below, an explanation from “Ecologically Sustainable Fire Management for the Northern Rivers region of NSW“. Marvel at the hoops that must be jumped through before the drip torches come out:

… In NSW, unless specifically exempted, prescribed burns must undergo environmental assessment. For hazard reduction burns private landholders can apply for a Hazard Reduction Certificate; a streamlined assessment and approval process undertaken by the NSW Rural Fire Service.

However, if the intended burn is not exempt nor does it demonstrate hazard reduction benefits, there is currently no clear burning approval process.

Ecological burns are specifically excluded from assessment under the hazard reduction approval process, meaning private landowners must seek alternative authorisation under relevant environmental legislation.

For this proposal a Hazard Reduction Certificate could not be issued. With no streamlined assessment available, it was important to ensure that all relevant legislation was considered prior to the burn occurring. This included:
    •protection of Aboriginal and cultural heritage;
    •pollution prevention;
    •soil erosion considerations;
•controlling the spread of weeds; and
•adhering to any existing land management agreements.

As there was a number of nationally and state listed species identified, a licence under Section 91 of the Threatened Species Conservation Act 1995 was required. Issue of a licence requires considerable justification to show that an ecological burn will not ‘harm threatened species, populations, and ecological communities or damage their habitats’…

The same document notes that bristlebirds are down to their last breeding pairs because they need a regular fire regime to maintain a suitable local ecology.

It also notes that bristlebirds did well until 1988, which was when green bureaucrats began introducing the red and green tape detailed above in italics.

So now, instead of a restorative low-intensity ground burn, huge swathes of country are getting the full inferno that will sterilise soil and probably kill the last of the bristlebirds. It’s certainly killing a lot of other things, including humans.

Experts! Wheel out the tumbril and let’s burn them instead.

Buy your way into carbon heaven by paying to stifle developing nations people…
    https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2019/nov/08/greta-thunberg-effect-driving-growth-in-carbon-offsetting

Growing concern about the climate crisis and the “Greta Thunberg effect” are driving huge increases in individuals and businesses choosing to offset their emissions by investing in carbon-reducing projects in developing countries.

NGOs and organisations involved in carbon offsetting have seen as much as a fourfold increase in investment from people who want to try to mitigate their carbon footprints.

Climate Stewards funds a project in Nepal paid for by the purchase of carbon offsets, where 240 fuel-efficient cooking stoves have been built for remote communities. Each stove saves 6.5 tonnes of carbon dioxide (CO2) per year per household and the stoves last for about 10 years.

The price for a tonne of CO2 is not set globally, and varies between offset suppliers on the voluntary market.

The US Environmental Protection Agency in 2015 assessed that for every tonne of CO2emitted into the atmosphere, we sacrifice between $11 and $212 in environmental degradation and negative social impacts.

    But here come the fangs.
“Our position is that this should not be an optional or voluntary thing. Expecting individuals to be able to make fully informed decisions about such a specialist, complex area is madness,” he said.

“What we want is a scenario where corporates are mandated to pay a price on carbon that reflects the societal cost of dealing with climate change and carbon emissions, and to pay for mitigating their emissions.”

PVO is a fucktard of the highest order. But, he’s right, something needs to be done about boomers and it’s simple really. Forget the fluffing around the edges of every fucking policy from health to property there’s only one thing that will free up every issue in one hit.

Limit health care to only women under 68 and men under 73. If you’re lucky enough to kick on gracefully well beyond these ages then good luck to you. If not, housing will be freed up, aged care reliance will shrink and the burden on the health care system will subside. Guys, good luck, if you make it to 73 and beyond hopefully you’ll get a few peaceful years. The next wave of Chinese immigrants can enjoy not getting gouged at property auctions in the big city’s, drug fucked caucasians and indiginy can expect prompter service through our emergency departments and the funeral direction industry will enjoy a boom the likes have never been seen before. And fortunately, these issues should have all political persuasions on board. The greens will love it, euthanasia by default. Labor will enjoy fuller aldi bags with pineapples from their commy mates and the rush to bury the dead will lead to the Liberals investing in recycling to make cardboard coffins to meet demand. Climate skeptics more eco-friendly than global-warming alarmists: study (2018)

Published in the April edition of the Journal of Environmental Psychology, the one-year study broke 600 participants into three groups based on their level of concern about climate change: “highly concerned,” “cautiously worried,” and “skeptical.”

The “highly concerned” cluster was “most supportive of government climate policies, but least likely to report individual-level actions, whereas the ‘Skeptical’ opposed policy solutions but were most likely to report engaging in individual-level pro-environmental behaviors,” the researchers concluded.

Conducting the study, entitled “Believing in climate change but not behaving sustainably,” were Cornell assistant professor Neil A. Lewis Jr. and University of Michigan researchers Michael P. Hall and Phoebe C. Ellsworth.

The skeptics were the more likely than the “highly concerned” to recycle, use public transportation and reusable shopping bags, and buy eco-friendly products.

“Belief in climate change predicted support for government policies to combat climate change, but did not generally translate to individual-level, self-reported pro-environmental behavior,” said the paper.

They want the government to make other people pay to save the planet for them.

Visitors to my humble home (taken off the market this very morning when the bids topped out at an insufficient $3.1m) have spoken critically of items found in the fridge and the length of time they’ve been there. In order to avoid more of the same and because I’ll be tied up tomorrow, I’ve just had a clean out which found some sausage meat that should have been eaten back in September. Taken outside as an offering to the birds, it has been prompting all sorts of avian spite.

Wattle birds turn up first, followed by some native mynahs, then came a squad of sparrows (welcome, because there haven’t been many around lately). It looked like at an Indian wedding, with all the guests piling into the buffet — but then the ravens arrived, Mom and Dad and their screaming baby, who got the message that it is about time he filled his own beak. Much cuffing and bumping to make that point.

Then it got interesting, as a seagull arrived and then a second. It was the funniest thing! The crows were trying to protect the mince meat pile, smack Junior and stuff their faces all at the same time while the seagulls kept making sly dashes at it.

Eventually, one of the crows grabbed most of what was left — he could barely fly — and took it to my neighbour’s roof, where Junior managed to knock it onto the ground.

The next thing, Guido (neighbour) is heard screaming, “You fuckin-a-cows, get-a outa my yard. You fucking black basta!”

Pity they don’t eat lettuce (crows, not Italians). Because I’ve found two of those as well.

Will have to get a bunny.

Thanks, I got the to confused. Same difference 🙂

This story is pretty big. Two large media organizations get together and fire the wrong person. They can’t even get this right. The msm is fucked. Their cred is below zero.

  194. areff

A mere figure of speech, you pervert.

  195. Nick

Lol I’m not the one who will be tied up

Even better, the mob who arranged/facilitated the leak released an interview with the actual person claiming to be the leaker (identity hidden).

So not only have the colluded to sack an innocent person, they still have a leaker inside.

  197. areff

Pity. Especially if it involved a gag.

Yep, they fire a real whistleblower at the same time as moaning about the sanctity of the Dems’ fake whistleblower. Any wonder the MSM is on the nose?

    Whoops! Wrong whistleblower.

    There are just so many.

    Its better.

They fired a person innocent of the whistleblowing/leak at the same time as moaning about the sanctity of the Dems’ fake whistleblower.

    Its Monty level wrongology.

Worth a quick watch. Has most of the virtue-signalling repertoire in just 7 minutes.

It’s like a teeny-bopper concert. It’s beyond embarrassing. Though she doesn’t find hope in politicians, she is a politician. Greta™’s spouting a load of vacuous, political blather.

Sam Kerr has continued her incredible goalscoring run by netting both of Australia’s goals in an unconvincing 2-1 friendly win over Chile.

Playing in front of a record domestic home crowd of 20,029 at Sydney’s Parramatta Stadium, Kerr rewarded them on Saturday afternoon by scoring in each half.

How many of the tickets were sold at full price? I’m sure one of Australia’s famously curious journalists will find the truth.

  209. Ellie

I’m laughing, Nick. We all have a mouth full of gags.

  210. Ellie

… as in lol funny lines

Ahhhhh. I note the “Not okay Boomer” sign behind Greta.

I sense a worldwide target in the crosshairs.

According to a well known AFL commentator, Ben Dover was a boundary umpire, almost always working in tandem with Phillip McCrevasse.

Regarding the forest fires, there is a huge difference between ignorant greenie “environmentalists”

Greenies, Not Climate Change, the Cause of the Australian Bush fire Tragedies

    and educated, committed Conservationists

Prescribed Fire: A Safe and Important Wildlife Management Tool

As it happens I own a few acres of forestry land in Florida and I receive a nice subsidy check from both the US agriculture dept and the Florida wildlife people every time we do a controlled burn there. They don’t cover all the costs but they certainly take the edge off. I also get a stipend for contracting to maintain the land in that manner by the wildlife management people and financial/technical assistance in replanting from them after I harvest the trees. THAT is commitment to long-term Conservation, a concept the ignorant, flash in the pan greenies can’t get their heads around.

  221. areff

    Agreed, Zatara.

My friend David Packham, AO’d for his work perfecting prophylactic burns in WA, reckons Victoria probably WON’tT have a really bad Black Saturday-style holocaust this year. But next summer, with the fuel loads building as they, watch out.

I was out past Eltham the other day. Candle bark hanging in power lines, dense understorey, roadsides untrimmed and waiting to become green fuses.

    Fear David is right.

Robert Norris, known as the original ‘Marlboro Man’ used in ads for the cigarette brand, has died at age 90.

Norris passed away at his ranch in Colorado Springs, Colorado, on Sunday. He is survived by his two sons and two daughters, 13 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.

For 12 years, Norris graced billboards and magazines as the Marlboro Man, a rugged man wearing a cowboy hat in wild terrain – with a cigarette hanging out of his mouth or in his hand.

But despite him pictured holding cigarettes for more than a decade, Norris never smoked and he eventually quit the ad campaign when he felt he wasn’t setting a good example for his children.
