TONY Abbott has visited his old friend George Pell at the Melbourne Assessment Prison. The Cardinal is being held in solitary confinement (regarded as a form of torture by the UN). It seems a prison officer – possibly on retainer – telephoned Seven News so a reporter could rush to the scene and ambush Mr Abbott as he left the facility. Visiting a convict hated by the world is exactly what Jesus would do. The former prime minister is to be commended for his steadfastness.
On Twitter, well known moralist Derryn Hinch is especially outraged. To their great credit, the Guardian newspaper’s Gay Alcorn and lawyer Greg Barns have called out Hinch for his nasty idiocy. Visiting the imprisoned is the sixth of the Corporal Works of Mercy. Meanwhile, The Australian quotes the unnamed father of the deceased “victim” – the young man who denied he was abused by Cardinal Pell – condemning supporters: “If it came out what went on in the trial, they would be horrified,” he said. But it did come out, sir, and, yes, we are horrified.
UPDATE: Premier Daniel Andrews slams Tony Abbott for visiting George Pell in Melbourne jail.
The usual suspects unhappy with TA.
The scribes join the Pharisees.
Tony Abbott has every right to visit any one he likes. The real issue is who tipped off channel 7, if it was a prison employee they should be sacked for breaching privacy. We see the greens cosying up to illegal immigrants all the time and no one makes a big deal about that
Tony Abbott may like me believe that Cardinal Pell is innocent. (That is based on my experience of what happens after a mass. The claim of the claimant is not plausible. It is very similar to saying it happened on the platform of a busy train station at peak hour and no one saw anything) In which case it would be poor form on his part to abandon his friend.
It is possible Abbott did the tip off. Possible.
It is possible Abbott did the tip off. Possible.
Extremely unlikely in my view. Just not Abbott’s style. Nor could I imagine what he’d think it would achieve.
To whom is the foreground saint raising the digitus impudicus?
99% of Pell-haters believe Roman Polanski should never have been pursued by the authorities.
I would hope so Tim. Abbott is however, a politician. I don’t trust any of that particular variety of human.

I think TA is the only past or present politician who would do something so kind.
I think it is possible his wife and family will be abused by the Left as a result, it is how Lefties work.
To tip off a reporter himself would be incorrect. Prison workers are not all trustworthy and honest and probably one of them was paid handsomely for the tipoff.
Not only that, I well remember the Left in Australia, including school teachers, defending the rights of pedos and keeping their identities and locations secret. And what about the ‘Safe Schools’ program where this almost becomes a sanctioned activity?
Of course there’s also the Epstein issue where the protection racket extends far and wide.
Had Abbott tipped off the media there would have been a scrum as he entered the jail.
As it was, he was ambushed on leaving, lending credence to the internal staff tip off theory.
Hinch was a one trick pony. Waste of space
Abbott, like Trump, is guilty…guilty of something, anything and everything.
Rinse, repeat.
Ummm, that is incorrect IF we still hold to the legal principle “innocent until proven guilty.”
The case is on appeal to the High Court. As a result, the decisions of the trial court and appeal court must be considered stayed until that avenue has been exhausted.
Another example of Diktat Dan of Victoriastan rewriting the rules.
Victoria’s premier says Tony Abbott should apologise after an apparent visit to convicted peeedophile Cardinal George Pell at a Melbourne prison.
On Tuesday, Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews said Abbott’s meeting is “shameful” and he should apologise.
Andrews should apologise for who he is and what does.
Contemptible man.
Hinch is such an Ftard.
Greg Barnes has always been a prisoner sympathiser. Never thought I would see him support Abbott on anything. Bet that hurt.
Good on Abbott.
Having followed the alleged trial and knowing how busy a sacristy it is, it’s ever been obvious that this was a railroading.

[Concluding comment too risky these days, Gyro – CL].
It is a tribute to the strength of character of Tony Abbott that he is not to be deterred by the haters.
And although this trial & imprisonment is a test for Pell – this man of faith must surely see it as the supreme test of his obedience to God.
The replacement liver was wasted on Hinch in my humble opinion.
Abbot would know about people getting fitted up legaly , he did that to Pauline Hanson on Howard’s instructions , to ingratiate himself . Now one of his mates is in the same position .
I don’t believe Pell did what they allege but he and all the High officials of his church were complicit in covering up the crimes of many church people . I know a guy who went to a school where no less that four priests and brothers were eventually charged with the crime ,been going on for years it seems ,my mate always says” I’m glad I’m an ugly bugger they didnt fancy me .”
I think Dr Fred above says what a lot of folk believe, that George Pell did not rape boys but some priests, very bad apples, did and Pell not helped by his outwardly cool unsympathetic personality must die in jail in solitary confinement for the grievous sins of the Catholic Church .
The HC judges must feel immense pressure to carry that out, like some kind of pagan thing.
You would think Hinch would be grateful for life after deliberately destroying his liver and getting a fresh new one, a little more civility would be nice and not call TA a p..do.
[Concluding comment too risky these days, Gyro – CL].
OK.
The times we live in!
Abbott is still pushing off all the right people.
Freakin’ auto-corrupt.
I typed ‘pissing off’.
Graham that liver could possibly have saved the life of someone who didn’t willingly self destroy two livers ,I believe Hinch was back on the wine again ?
Thanks for this post, CL. Beautifully done.
So, we have all these blind mole-type creatures unaccustomed to sunlight, open air, and space.
The nudge their way blindly through issues above ground as they would in their dark cramped domain. They have no perception of colour, or variety, or depth of field, or of things that they have not blundered into.
They will insist that the Cardinal was found guilty by a court and therefore should be treated like something that was disgorged from the anus of a possum. The court has decided and therefore there can be no recourse for divergent opinion as to guilt.
Now, if the Federal court upholds the appeal and overturns the conviction then stinking fungus nursery ruminants like Hinch must:
Flip their opinion because it is a court saying so – which means their opinions are no more substantial than an echo and as worthless before as they are now. Or
Stick to their original opinion which can no longer be supported because blind reliance on courts leads to contradictory results. Or
Accept that Abbott was more perceptive in identifying a truth that only extra adjudication revealed, while they the, selves did not. So they can hardly have digs at Abbott.
In reality it is possible for both courts to get it wrong. The Federal court might uphold the conviction following its own processes which are epistemologically far short of observation. If the likes of Hinch believe that the processes of the court are infallible, then he should feel free to state that the appeal will fail. Mind you, it would also mean that no appeal can ever succeed. But we know, of course, they do.
Perhaps more substantially, we should except that hinge and the other moles are not really following the judgement of the court, but they are citing it as endorsing their own prejudices. If the appeal is upheld, they will either say nothing about it, or they will pick on that court in detail in the way they did not pick on the lower court.
Hideous, old, ugly, and fat. He has a grudge against everything in the world. I personally hold his liver responsible for not doing the decent thing and letting the dipsomaniac dickhead die.
Sorry. I was hasty.
We owe a debt to Comrade Andrews for confirming that the criminal leak from his corrupt and politically prostituted Stalinist abortion of a so-called justice system was indeed authorised at the highest levels of the Spring Street politburo and that the perpertrator will therefore enjoy immunity from investigation and prosecution, like the leakers before him.
Take a closer look at the comments by the father of the deceased so-called victim. He claims to have knowledge of what transpired in the closed court sessions not available to the public. In that case, surely there has been yet another criminal leak – which again, of course, will go completely unpunished.
By the way, one of the many debts anyone who cares about justice and the rule of law will have to Justice Weinberg is his quoting of chunks of the complainant’s so-called evidence in his masterly dissection of it.
Contemptible man.
Andrews and his wife were involved in car accident where a cyclist got injured and neither Andrews or his wife were breath tested or charged. Police just ignored it because he is premier.
And Hinch who went to the top of the list for a new liver after destroying his own deliberately.
Nicely said, ML. But please – tell us how you really feel next time. 🙂

Thanks, Gab.
Thank you currencylad for taking the time to again post on this ongoing travesty, I don’t know how you have the stomach for it, but I’m glad your stomach is stronger than mine.
Wish I could, but I am a product of a decorous upbringing.
My Mum always said that, if you have nothing nice to say…
“Hideous, old, ugly, and fat. He has a grudge against everything in the world. I personally hold his liver responsible for not doing the decent thing and letting the dipsomaniac dickhead die.”
Beautiful. Thanks ML.
It is very hard not to think the worst of people like Andrews and Hinch.
Agree with the spirit of the post. However Pharisees were a prominent Joowish movement which played a pivotal role in the development of Rabinical tradition. They are not responsible for rank hypocrisy for present day personalities. Leave them alone.
Hinch, shame, shame shame.
For the life of me I can’t figure out why Sky gave this blow hard his own show which I doubt anyone watches. I suppose they have to find out the hard way as they did with Nicholas Reece.
Abbott is a fool, plain and simple – I have no doubt he had no ill intentions in the visit, I don’t think he is much for intention at all.
Pell is a jury convicted and part of an institution with a proven history of p-ph-les. Anyone who is not morally bankrupt knows that there are many people who are corrupt fat hanging that need to be cut from a system of faith that is trying to do good. I don’t care that he seemed like a nice person to some, or was friends with others, that is exactly how the sick and evil work, if they were easy to spot we would not have this problem.

Did anyone visit Hinch in jail?
https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-3678564/Derryn-Hinch-said-slept-15-year-old-lingerie-model.html
Pell was found guilty by Dodgy Dan’s “Get Pell Squad” some 12 months before any charges were laid.
There are still many who say that regardless of whether the alleged crime for which he was convicted, ever improbably happened or n ot, he deserves his imprisonment merely because he was in charge while other members of the clergy allegedly molested children. Former Anglican Archbishop and Governor General, Peter Hollingworth was tarred and feathered with the same brush.
If this is so, then who were the various State and Federal Presidents and Parliamentary Leaders of the A.L.P. when the A.L.P.’s Milton “The Molester” Orkopoulos, the A.L.P.’s Keith Wright, the A.L.P.’s Bill D’Arcy, the A.L.P.’s Terry Martin, the A.L.P.’s Bob Collins and the A.L.P.’s Bonking Billy Short-One were each respectively ‘enlarging the circles’ of their little friends?
Why are they not standing trial or in prison today?
Is it OK for Leftard Parliamentarians to be p-ph-les, but not clergy?
Was the source of the visit leak the same warder who might also slip a hardened boozer a drink or two for a suitable consideration, I wonder?
Thanks to Up the Workers for reminding us of the ALP roll of honour. If you want to know what a left-wing feminist teachers’ union activist turned MP really thinks of p33d0s, look up the story of Ms Jan Burnswoods MLC, who was banned from visiting NSW prisons after she tried to slip her old friend Orkopuolos a packet of figs.
So Hinch had sexual relations with a 15 year old?
That means he is a p..file surely? Or do the police overlook this crime because of who he is?
And Hinch met her at a party at Molly Meldrum’s place – after Countdown, I wonder? VicPol, like the Grand Poobah Justice McClellan, definitely won’t want to go there.
Ho-hum. Another hate-filled extreme leftist on the boil.
You very obviously did not follow the show trial at all.
There was no actual evidence of any kind. Even the other boy allegedly involved denied that anything had occurred – not that it was physically possible anyway given the timings. The jury was obviously influenced by 26 solid years of media and other vilification of the Cardinal
The Cardinal was “convicted” by a system riddled with persons whom his actions (ie, 1996 Melbourne Initiative) denied fresh victims to: the same class of people who ensured that he was “convicted” on the unsupported word of a single man.
It’s as antithetical to justice as someone making the same accusation against you, and you being convicted on that unsubstantiated allegation.
Justice, Comrade? We don’t want no steenkin justice, this is the Peoples Democratic Republic of Victoriastan! Show us the man, and I’ll show you the crime.
Pell wasn’t in a senior position when the worst of the attacks and exploitation was going on (60s add 70s) and when he was in a powerful position he was one of the first in the world to take meaningful action with the Melbourne Response.
Whatever its inadequacies, it was more than any such large institution was doing at the time.
Yet is relentlessly criticised by lefties who had nothing better to offer.
Wikipedia, by the way, describes Pell as a “climate denier” then as evidence, quotes him saying nothing of the sort.
And that is what gets you described as a “climate denier” in Wikipedia.
It’s surely no coincidence that the Get Pell campaign ramped up after these statements. (2006 -ish)
When I heard this story in the news yesterday, it reminded me of E.M.Forster’s famous quote (in bold below). I checked on the background to the quote and came up with this:
VicPol, like the Grand Poobah Justice McClellan, definitely won’t want to go there.
One can imagine underage boys and girls and drugs and older famous people taking advantage sexually.
Hinch said he thought she was 25 but he didn’t ask. So, kind of rape really. Especially if she was drunk/drugs and no consent given.
The Metoo folks should look into that. They won’t. They only investigate conservative men.
Ah yes, Gramsci – the pseudo-intellectuals’ G Spot. Do trans ‘women’ have one?
Exactly my point, Candy. There have been rumours about what went on in the ABC studios in Elsternwick for decades. And more than rumour about what went on in the ABC Studios in Brisbane with the conviction of Bill Hurrey, which also seems to have been flushed down the memory hole.
I watched the story of “Ivan the terrible” , a concentration camp guard who was tried in Israel, convicted, then acquitted on appeal.
He was later tried in the US, found guilty and appealed. He died before the appeal and was then classified as innocent or some such. Anyway he died without a conviction.
Just curious if that applies in Australia.
