Bloomberg, who is worth $US60bn ($90bn) and is the 12th richest man in the world, has already spent well over $US400m on advertising and has 24,000 paid staff. Could November be the battle of the billionaires — Big Donald v Iron Mike?

I know, the big campaigns have staff in all the states, but even so how is it possible to have 24,000 paid staff unless that’s also counting the numbers at Bloomberg LP.. it’s not a stretch to count them either. But still.

Jesus was a homo and refused to have children out of concern for the environment. This is the reason why his Old Man let him be crucified, and He only allowed Jesus to show up again after he’d sat down and had a damn good think about what he’d done.

After that his wayward kid showed signs of going down the same path again, so God (having had a gutful) grounded him. To date, his behaviour has not warranted him being let out of the house.

    Discuss.

Since when has this blog been filled with all this anti-Christian bile?

The top 4 parties elected at the recent Irish poll were open border/diversity loons.

Interesting how quickly the “Open borders and freedom for everybody, these people are only here for opportunity” turns over into “We give them all your stuff, now pay up and shut up.”

I think that bait and switch is so commonly used now that instinctively everyone sees it coming.

The mental health slant is interesting: it is a mitigating factor in RoP terrorism, but negligible when it comes to M on F domestic violence.

The dangerous aspect emerging now, as faced by Bettina Arndt and the investigating cop, is that any discussion of the case that strays from the feminist narrative ‘all men are bastards’ is treated as hate speech and condemned by the MSM.”

And not just by progressive, leftists and feminists….also by the likes of Credlin and co. Her spray last night at Arndt was totally unnecessary……it looks like all and sundry want to jump on the bandwagon.

Come to think of oit…..Credlin did similar eighteen months ago…when she launched into a tirade against David Leyenjhelm after his remarks…taking the side of that grotesque little fat fascist……Senator Whale-Watcher….forgetting of course that no one, absolutely no one on the left came to her defense when those nasty smears went out in 2016 about her and Abbott….most of which came directly from Turnbull’s office via the battered Savva.

And yep..isn’t it interesting how the left go out of their way to describe any terrorist attack as “mental health” related…..as far as I am concerned their mental illness derives from their religion.

  7. EvilElvis

there is no “x” trigger that goes anywhere near making the cut.

The ‘x’ trigger is bullshit. The straw the breaks the camels back is not the actual cause. Business pressures? ATO tyranny? Relationship breakdown? A woman who knows how to push your buttons? Roids? Of course, good old mental health? Etc etc. And yet the situation is well known to multiple government agencies tasked with dealing with this crap with more taxpayer funded resources and issue awareness than ever before. Lack of interest or weariness from family or friends, lack of any need for outcomes based efforts to sort a situation from the fucking PS and a hostile media that rolls in the dog shit of domestic violence virtue for its daily dose of agenda driven narrative disaster porn.

As long as big media covers for big government we will never get improvement. What a fucking country.

See, here’s the problem. Any dissenting opinion, researched or not is automatically hate speech.

The same level of derision should also be directed at the other end of the superiority spectrum, the professional atheists.

I’m a little manlet so you will have no trouble fronting.
You go to your doctor and get a letter stating you are fit to box.
You get a test for HIV etc.
You then get on a plane to Melbourne. I pay for you to stay the night at a shitty motel.
The next morning I will take you to a boxing ring and you can demonstrate that you aren’t a coward.
This will be a good thing and we can then both move on.
If you don’t take this offer up, do us both a favour and shut your fucking cowardly mouth because it makes me uncomfortable repeatedly pointing out what a weasel you are.
Now put up or fuck off.

  13. I read that Baxter was offered a 4 (to wife) 3(to him) per week split custody deal but rejected it and wanted get a 50/50 split from the court. I have no idea of the circumstances, but it might have diffused his anger were his lawyer been able to refer him to a mens’ support group. Someone there might have pointed out that he could have worked with what he was offered and over time built a strong relationship with the kids. They might have raised the inconvenience of a mid week split and and pressured the mother to go week about. My own experience was something like this.

Of course, the very existence of mens’ groups is anathema to feminists, and when they talk of more funding to intervene they mean more support for women to get at the fathers.

I do think there are limits to the ‘x pushed him to it’ reaction.
Pretty obviously, whoever or whatever authority put this bloke on the outer did their job.
That said, the trouble invariably begins when the feminist ghouls start with their hate-men agitation before the bodies are even removed from the scene.

The limits of ‘x pushed him to it’ had not even been approached before the screaming started. Obviously that aspect of the murders has been ruled irrelevant.
So, if a burgler who is allowed to go free, and then commits another burglery, the original judge who let them free should bear some responsibility for the second burglery?
Is that the logic being used here?
Why are not the facts of the matter in their entirety not allowed to be examined?
Or does that take us into unwelcome territory?

  34. Some History

Pretty well all of Glantz’s “studies” are questionable. They advance the prohibition “cause”, used to manufacture irrational fear/hate. He’s the author of the “heart attack miracles” studies following smoking bans (search Snowdon’s blog). Glantz has simply extended his “heart attack” crap to vaping, protecting pharmaceutical interests. And the vapers and “harm reductionists” were incensed. They weren’t outraged when the Glantz crap was used against smoking, his “studies” used as the basis for all sorts of antismoking laws and smoker denormalization. This hypocrisy is considered here:
    http://taking-liberties.squarespace.com/blog/2020/2/21/is-bad-science-ever-acceptable.html

Glantz has popped up all over the place in the last 3 decades. He’s produced hundreds of antismoking “studies”. He was all over getting the EPA (1992) report on environmental tobacco smoke to arrive at the right [antismoking] conclusion. He has been a contributor to Surgeon-General reports on ETS. He is heavily WHO-connected. His latest WHO-driven ventures is to harass Hollywood into completely eradicating smoking from movies, or, at the least, films depicting any tobacco use to attract an “R” rating.

It’s the fraudulent work of Glantz (and others) plus useful-idiot, greedy politicians plus WHO-owned bureaucrats plus a captured academia/media plus a gullible, prone-to-hysteria public that has manufactured smokers into the deplorables of the deplorables.

  53. Knuckle Dragger

‘It’s pretty easy to be a small-dicked wonder in this environment and take gratuitous pot shots at Christians and then hide behind the false façade of free speech.’

Absolutely, Porter. Except I’m not doing that. Wasn’t the intent, anyway.

The between-the-lines was cracking at. What I WAS cracking at was the attitudes of:

    1. My religion is better, and yours is stoopid;
    2. My variant of my religion is better, and yours is stoopid;
    3. You’d better believe what I believe, and if you don’t you’re stoopid; and
    4. I have no religion, and those who do are stooopid.

Personally, I wouldn’t ban mentioning any particular creed. But it ain’t my blog, and still isn’t the issue.

I have a level of personal faith, somewhere that I occasionally latch onto. But I don’t publicly advance its cause or compare it to others, and I especially don’t feel the need to try and convert other people who I (largely) personally don’t know over a blog. My way may not necessarily be they way of others, and I reckon that’s okay.

That’s why I enjoy having a snipe at ALL the abovementioned categories.

N.Y. County Legislators Propose Bill to Ban Smoking in Private Homes

Suffolk County is proposing the most stringent anti-smoking law in New York — banning private citizens from smoking in their own apartments, condominiums, and multi-family homes.
Legislator Sam Gonzalez, the sponsor of the bill, told a local CBS affiliate that he did not think the bill was excessive.
“It’s not going too far. We’re heading in that direction anyway. We can’t smoke in restaurants. We can’t smoke in buildings,” he said. “We can’t smoke inside the theaters. There are parks, there are beaches that you can’t smoke in. We are headed there.”
Suffolk legislator and medical doctor William Spencer agreed with the assessment.
“Let me be clear, any legislation that there is a vote required that would have an impact on preventing the public or innocent people who have made a choice not to smoke, from being exposed to smoke, I will support that legislation,” he said.
Two laws have been proposed to limit second-hand smoke in private dwellings — one being an outright ban, while the other limits smoking on balconies and patios where it could mix with public air. They are expected to be presented to Suffolk County’s Health Committee at the end of the month, before going to a full vote in March.

Abortion was outlawed in the Soviet Union in June 1936; this was accompanied by strong pro-natalist measures, including stipends for new mothers, bonuses for having large families, and longer maternity leaves paid for by the state (along with other supports such as prenatal services and expansion of childcare facilities). Accompanying restrictions on divorce were greater penalties for men who refused to pay child support.

I don’t particularly like posting entire articles but this is to important and Bernard Lane has done a stellar job exposing what’s going on here. Once again we have radical Marxist gender theorists hijacking public policy. The Queensland government wanted to pass legislation which would have enabled and entrenched and institutionalized the mutilation of children without even having consulted a single medical group. This is jail worthy corruption. I have also yet to hear of any instances of this so-called “gay conversion therapy” in Australia and see any proof that coercive or harmful procedures are not adequately covered by criminal or health law.

    LGBTQ conversion therapy’ ban misfires

Late last year Health Minister Steven Miles said, ‘there is overwhelming evidence that conversion therapy is harmful and that it correlates with high rates of suicide’. Picture: Annette Dew

    BERNARD LANE

AN HOUR AGO FEBRUARY 22, 2020

Australia’s first draft law to criminalise so-called “LGBT conversion therapy” has suffered a setback and forced a tacit admission that medical bodies were not properly consulted and the LGBT community is sharply divided over transgender rights.

On Friday, a parliamentary committee in Queensland urged a reworking of the Palaszczuk government’s conversion therapy ban to make clear exactly what practices would send clinicians and therapists to prison for a maximum of 18 months.

The committee, where Labor has a majority with Green support, stressed the need to consult doctors and “all sections” of the LGBT community on amending the legislation. The Australian Medical Association Queensland and lesbian activists, along with well-known psychiatrists and Christian groups, were prominent critics of the bill.

Conversion therapy bans have been promoted as a unified LGBT project by human rights organisations and lobbies such as Equality Australia, whose support for self-identified trans status has angered dissenters concerned about rights and protections for lesbians, women and children.

Last November Health Minister Steven Miles said the government was proud to lead the fight against “gay conversion therapy”, rejecting “the notion that LGBTIQ people are broken or sick”.

“There is overwhelming evidence that conversion therapy is harmful and that it correlates with high rates of suicide,” the minister said when introducing the Health Legislation Amendment Bill.

It would criminalise not only unethical practices to undo an adult’s fixed sexual orientation but also any attempt to “change” the inherently changeable “gender identity” of under-18s — unless this involved pro-transgender “affirmative” treatment.

Critics argue that cautious responses to children and teenagers who believe they were “born in the wrong body” could be outlawed at a time of intense global debate about the safety and ethics of “affirmative” hormonal treatment and surgery.

The committee acknowledged a host of submissions warning the bill was poorly drafted and based on scant evidence of any real conversion therapy today.

Opponents say the bill could shut down legitimate treatment options for young people diagnosed with gender dysphoria (distress at conflict between their body and inner “gender identity”), and entrench affirmative gender change as an officially sanctioned form of conversion therapy. Queensland Health denies these claims and stands by the legislation.

Kim Oates, an emeritus professor of medicine from the University of Sydney, urged Queensland “not to oblige therapists to pursue (sometimes deleterious) hormonal intervention as the only form of intervention and to permit psychotherapeutic support for selected cases (of gender dysphoria), as this has been shown to be effective”.

Before the rise of the affirmative model, the vast majority of young children diagnosed with gender dysphoria grew out of it, emerging as gay, lesbian or bisexual adults happy in their bodies.

Since the mid-2000s, there has been an explosion of teenage onset cases in gender clinics around the world. And an increasing number of regretful young adult “detransitioners”, most of them female, are emerging to complain that gender change had suppressed their same-sex attraction.

The Coalition of Activist Lesbians (Australia) took a stand against Queensland’s draft law and its conflation of sexual orientation and gender identity.

“This results in significant tension in the bill, because harsh medical treatments are outlawed for sexual orientation conversion, while extreme surgery and dangerous hormones are condoned and supported for children, in the case of gender identity,” COAL said.

The group also objected to the “disrespectful and unacceptable” redefinition of same-sex attraction as involving two people with the same subjective “gender identity”, a manoeuvre which allows biologically intact males to self-identify as lesbians.

“LGBTIQA+ conglomerates” were not representing lesbian views.

Meanwhile, this year’s Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras has cancelled a lesbian event.

A New York-based lesbian, Arielle Scarcella, whose LGBT YouTube channel has 634,000 subscribers, was listed to appear on a February 27 lesbian sexuality panel but the Sydney queer activist known as Professor Pauline Pantsdown complained Ms Scarcella “portrays transgender women as predatory rapists and borrows anti-trans tropes from the far right”.

Ms Scarcella tweeted: “Can you guys tell @sydneymardigras how insane this is? Calling me ‘right-wing’ (I’m not. Also, it’s not a bad thing). And saying I portray trans women as rapists because I posted ONE video calling out MEN for abusing self-ID”.

In a tweet, Mardi Gras organisers thanks Professor Pantsdown for alerting them, and said the event had been struck from the festival listings.

Women’s groups argue the risks involved in official acceptance of self-identified trans status are already on show with biological males convicted of serious crimes, including sexual offences, being shifted as “trans women” to female-only prisons. There are surgically-reassigned transsexuals who say uncontrolled self-ID trans is difficult to reconcile with protection of women and children.

The Brisbane-based trans man and drag queen Johnny Valkyrie, whose Drag Story Time event for children at the Brisbane Square Library in January was disrupted by Liberal National Club university students chanting “drag queens are not for kids”, launched a change.org petitionto deplatform Ms Scarcella from the Mardi Gras. (One of the LNP students, Wilson Gavin, who was openly gay, took his own life less than 24 hours after a torrent of online abuse and denunciation.)

The Sydney Les-Talk panel event with Ms Scarcella is scheduled to go ahead, but not as part of the festival. The Mardi Gras was contacted for comment.

In the debate over Queensland’s controversial draft law, a key question was whether or not Mr Miles’s 2018 conversion therapy roundtable — a key influence on the government’s policy — represented a wide range of opinion and expertise.

The LGBTI Legal Service Inc, which backed the Queensland bill, was among activist bodies at the roundtable but it has emerged that no mainstream medical organisations were present, despite a Queensland Health claim to the contrary.

In a dissenting report, the two Liberal National Party MPs on the six-strong parliamentary committee said there was “little value” in seeking to redraft the conversion therapy provisions, which should be abandoned or voted down. That part of the bill was described as “almost hopelessly unworkable” by the Queensland Law Society.

Bernard Lane should be given a medal for his fearless reporting on this.

Bear in mind that, in its last year, the Barry Bummer Administration banned smoking in a government-subsidized housing. Getting caught smoking can get you evicted and homeless again. It was hoped that the Trump Administration would overturn the sickly ban but not so. Rather, the Trump Administration has furthered antismoking. Thanks for the explanation Knuckle Dragger but aren’t you in a sense playing the same game by claiming that your brand of part religion (or whatever) is better than theirs, hence your judgement of theirs? I rest my case.

    Let’s look at table 1.
Let’s remove the African Americans, the Native Americans and the Hispanics from the equation.
It shows that white American women have a homicide rate (killed by firearms by intimate partners) of 1.5 per 100000.
The Australian rate is much lower, about 109 times lower, and that’s assuming all the women killed in Australia were shot by their intimate partners.
They weren’t of course, but that assumption simply clarifies how ridiculous your assertions are.
    There is simply no comparison.
To throw up the perennial red herring “it’s all about race” is a pretty desperate argument, and falls to pieces when you remove it from the equation.
As my original link attests –

States with the highest rates of firearm ownership (i.e., the top quartile of states) have a 65 percent higher rate of IPV firearm homicide than states with the lowest rates of gun ownership (i.e., the lowest quartile). Therefore, advocating for women to be armed with guns blatantly ignores what researchers, survivors, and law enforcement know too well: Access to a firearm is associated with an increased risk of IPV homicide, and disrupting that access reduces the likelihood of IPV becoming deadly.

Arming women is not the solution to IPV.
    It actually makes it worse.
Yet there are dipshits posting here who advocate it.

  78. Some History

It would come as a great shock to many that there is no federal/national indoor smoking ban in America. The Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA) has federal jurisdiction over workplace indoor air quality. OSHA does not consider typically encountered indoor tobacco smoke as a hazard. In the 1990s one of the two rabid antismoking activist organizations in America, Action on Smoking & Health, sued OSHA for a ruling on indoor tobacco smoke. The hope was that OSHA would declare no safe level – an antismoking slogan – of tobacco smoke and, therefore, a national ban on indoor smoking could be instituted. OSHA sat on the lawsuit for a number of years, looking at relevant incoming data. Pressured by ASH to arrive at a ruling, OSHA signalled that it would produce a ruling involving Permissable Exposure Limits (PELs) for indoor tobacco smoke. The idea of PELs for indoor tobacco smoke was the last thing that the prohibitionists wanted to hear. So, they dropped the lawsuit. OSHA in turn terminated the request for a ruling. The prohibitionists considered that it was best for the prohibition cause to have no ruling from OSHA and to approach Councils and State governments individually calling for bans on smoking, always failing to mention that OSHA has no ruling – seeing no need for one – on indoor tobacco smoke.

So, all of the many antismoking laws around America, now involving outdoor smoking bans more and more, are testimony to the influence/effectiveness of activist organizations peddling their fear/hate-mongering on clueless lawmakers.

I will now add for numbers benefit that the string of gun massacres in Australia came after activist and media attention to gun laws began, specifically after forming GCA in 1979-1980 and the media attention to the misnamed Milperra massacre. Activists and journalists incited a view that massacres were possible and easy in Australia culminating in the A Current Affair show of October 1995 which from the interview with the perpetrator appears to have helped inspire the Port Arthur Massacre.
The media and activists then went on a rampage to punish the people who didn’t and never would commit a violent act.
I am still being punished with stupid costs and excessive laws being enforced against me after 24 years.

  107. Knuckle Dragger

Indeed. A gulag, if you will. Except that they’re fictional.

    *Clearly, anti-Folau sentiment.

  108. Is there a term for someone who is incapable of feeling shame, remorse and/or guilt?
    Why yes, there is!

Does anyone know such a person?

  109. Arky

Gun laws are not a driver of homicide rates.
Anyone who has dug into the stats in jurisdictions that keep the relevant data (Australia doesn’t) knows it.
The big driver is demographics, specifically age demographics.
Violent crime rises with the rise of the 18 to 25 demographic.
    End of story.

  110. Arky

The biggest factor in the occurence of mass shootings, on the other hand?
    We know that.
Being resident in a gun- free zone multiplies your chances many times.
Being resident in a country like South Africa or Mexico, where private gun ownership is effectively banned, multiplies your chances of getting shot dead by a factor of 30.

  111. Arky

So age demographics drive violent crime.
Draconian gun laws drive mass shooting.

  112. cohenite

Now we go to American homicides using hands and feet alone, and we note that it is higher than Australia’s homicide rate by ‘All methods’. Explain how this is caused by different gun laws.

“If only the dead wife had a gun to defend herself and her children.”

    Was the proposition.

Explain the relevance of your post.

And if you look at “all homicides” you get – Australia .8 per 100000; USA 5.3 per 100000.
Their homicide rate is 6.6 times ours.

This discussion is proceeding as usual.
I provide an argument based on statistics.

Mike Bloomberg Says 3 Women Can be Released from NDAs

WASHINGTON (AP) — Democratic presidential candidate Mike Bloomberg said Friday that he’s willing to release at least three women from nondisclosure agreements that prevented them from speaking publicly about sexual harassment or discrimination suits filed against him over the last three decades.
Dozens of lawsuits have been filed against his company over the years. Bloomberg said his company has identified “3 NDAs that we signed over the past 30-plus years with women to address complaints about comments they said I had made.”
He wrote: “If any of them want to be released from their NDA so that they can talk about those allegations, they should contact the company and they’ll be given a release.”
Bloomberg was attacked repeatedly this week in his debut debate for declining to release women from the nondisclosure agreements.
He wrote: “I’ve done a lot of reflecting on this issue over the past few days and I’ve decided that for as long as I’m running the company, we won’t offer confidentiality agreements to resolve claims of sexual harassment or misconduct going forward.”

Bruce in WA, best wishes to you and your wife and please try to enjoy your cruise. It is disheartening to have to cancel and most of us with bookings don’t want to do that when the situation is still not an extensive pandemic. I think this virus in the West will become a slow-rolling feature of life and that no other time to go in the next year will be any better than now; so we still intend to travel, although not to an Asian destination (and I wouldn’t go near Iran/Iraq) but to Los Angeles transit to San Diego (both of which have some infections) and then to cruise for 16 days or so to third world areas in Mexico (viral status unknown), ending in Fort Lauderdale. We will then drive around to Louisiana and fly back to Oz from New Orleans. I note that as yet none of the deep south US States are showing cases, although one doesn’t know really what to believe.

Please buy some Glen 20 or similar aerosol disinfectant spray and do over the cabin plus get some good hand sanitizers (probably you’ve done all of this already). I’ve seen them spraying aircraft and it is fairly desultory, so a bit extra wouldn’t hurt in aircraft seat containers (I will put all reading material into a sealed plastic bag under the seat as that could be a potent source of infection) and TV’s and obviously in cabins – interior wardrobes and drawers are often forgotten, imho, and aircon vents. This will help ensure you don’t come down with any other bug that may be around too. I will also be putting pillows and cushions outside onto the sprayed balcony chairs plus doonas into fresh air and hopefully a little sunlight for a few hours. Hairy will laugh his head off, and carry on as usual, but even it is just busy work, I will have a more enjoyable holiday if I do all of this.

I’ve never gone crazy about nits, changing and sanitizing everywhere like some mothers did when the children had them, but simple precautions kept our home free of recurrence. Same for ensuring that bedbugs weren’t transferred to our place when backpacking son arrived home with a fine little nest of them in his bag pockets. Down to your undies at the door, mate, into the shower pronto, all your stuff out of the house and all material very hot washed, all other things such as phone etc wiped with double d Eucalyptus (bed bugs hate it), backpak sprayed in the shed.

    Oh joy, memories.

A CNN report is an “opinion”.
    Statistics are facts.

Um, Numbers, if you scroll down the “report” a little way you will find a lot of statistics.
In a big table of firearm homicide death rates, by race and by state.
And cites the source of the data.

The statistics show the rate of firearm homicides in Australia and the US in the caucasian community is basically the same despite a massive number of firearms owned in the US. The rate is a little higher in the US because the people who do the homicides tend to shoot people of all communities, not just their own.

The problem is a law and order issue not a firearm ownership issue. And the Left is the reason why one particular community is so lawless, because that has been allowed to happen in the Democrat-run cities where they overwhelmingly live.

But I can now similarly dismiss any CNN “report” you cite, can’t I?

A CNN report is an “opinion”.

It gave numerical data, numbers. You have either to show the data is wrong or to accept that it contradicts your claims. Calling it “opinion” doesn’t cut it.

Your ‘statistics’ claim has fundamental flaws which have been pointed out to you, conflating distinguishable sub-populations, and you simply ignore this.

Larry Tesler’s work philosophy included the idea that a software engineer should spend a week’s work in order to spare the user one minute’s work, ie work harder to make the product easier to use. Given the ultimate number of users, that makes economic sense.

  154. The problem is a law and order issue not a firearm ownership issue.

So allowing everyone to toolup in Australia will solve our DV problem?

The problem is a law and order issue not a firearm ownership issue.

    That’s a circular argument.
If the issue is political (and it is, given the strength of the gun lobby in the US) changing the politics (and policies) is the only solution.
That means providing the kinds of social services that improve the quality of life of these minorities.
Hell will freeze over in the land of the free before that happens, irrespective of the politics of the jurisdiction.
Similar ghettos exist in other western countries, and they have nowhere near the gun homicide rate of similar environments in the USA. The suggestion that gun ownership has absolutely no connection with the homicide rate has been refuted over and over again by multiple studies.
My argument has always been that one of the great benefits of our system of “law and order” (if you want to use that term) is our approach to gun regulation.
The majority of Australians, by any number of polls, (p15/17) agree with that proposition.
If you would be happy living in a jurisdiction where you can own a semi-auto for self defence, apply for US citizenship and emigrate.
The support for US style gun laws on this blog is simply an indication of the minority opinion of many who post here.
It’s not part of our culture.

I agree that Christianity offers a great moral system, but the foundations for it have nothing to do with its superiority. You can set up completely different foundations and derive the same precepts and the same moral sensibilities. It would be enough to start with the presupposition that Jesus was a man who was a moral genius. Falling into superstition doesn’t strengthen the moral sensibility, it weakens it.

  187. VW Beetles were a deathtrap for lack of an engine in front. If you had a head-on collision there was nothing to absorb the impact .

    Common fallacy.
The “absorb the impact” notion doesn’t compute.
The problem in any headon (or side on collision for that matter) is the human body colliding with the interior fittings of the vehicle when it (the human body) continues at the speed it was travelling until something stops it.
That “something” is usually the interior of the vehicle.
Modern vehicles are engineered to crumple to absorb the impact and dissipate the energy of the collision..
Older vehicles with front mounted north-south engines weren’t.
Another issue in Beetles was the front mounted fuel tank which sometimes ruptured and sprayed fuel all over the fuse box behind the dashboard.
They were unsafe – no question, but more because the rear swing axle setup caused the outside wheel to tuck under and the vehicle would pivot and roll.
The same problem plagued the Chevvy Corvair until the rear axle was redesigned. It was a larger ripoff of the engineering of the Beetle – horizontally opposed motor (6 cylinder vs 4), located behind the rear axle line, and employing a swing axle. The pendulum affect caught out heaps of US drivers weaned on front engined rear drive vehicles with solid rear axles on leaf springs.
Remember Nader’s “Unsafe at Any Speed”?

How Trump Made the Federal Courts Blink

The president lit into Judge Amy Berman Jackson while Twitter-jousting by noting that she had not only presided over this political prosecution, gagging Roger Stone in the process, but also allowed the malicious prosecution of the president’s former campaign chairman, Paul Manafort, denying him bail and leaving him in solitary confinement during his trial.

Well, the Deep State collectively fainted. The four lying prosecutors resigned (as if they had planned this theatric episode beforehand). The press called President Trump a dictator. And the leadership of the 1,100-member Federal Judges Association called for an “emergency meeting” that simply “could not wait.” Clearly, the Judicial Branch was gearing up for an unprecedented rebuke of the sitting president.

A funny thing happened, however, on the way to the courthouse. Two things, actually. First, the jury forewoman in Stone’s case outed herself as a die-hard Democrat who despises President Trump and his supporters as well as a former congressional candidate and far-left activist who still buys into the Russian collusion scam.

The judges have postponed their planned “emergency meeting” indefinitely. Like most things the president says that cause alarm for the D.C. establishment, it is not the recklessness of his words, but their truthfulness that rattles them, and the more truth he slings their way, the more rattled they become. The judges realized they were about to make a consequential mistake by taking on directly the one person in the country not afraid to put the Judicial Branch in its place.

And the Judicial Branch definitely needs to be put in its place.
In light of this recent standoff between President Trump and the courts, Rasmussen Reports re-released polling done days after I.G. Horowitz’s report on FISA abuse dropped in December. From that polling, a majority of Americans came to three conclusions: (1) the Deep State criminally conspired to prevent Donald Trump’s presidency, (2) the actors involved should be imprisoned or immediately fired from the federal government, and (3) it is likely that no criminal punishment of any kind will actually occur. Talk about a damning indictment of America’s criminal justice system! A majority of Americans believe that high-ranking members of President Obama’s intelligence agencies and Justice Department actively conspired to manipulate the election for president and overturn its outcome and yet also believe that the perpetrators will suffer no consequences whatsoever. Welcome to America, the only nation in the world where you can attempt a coup and walk away scot-free. Talk about the Land of the Free!

Our Own Intel Agencies Continue to Do Putin’s Bidding

Imagine you are Vladimir Putin. Your country is in relatively bad economic shape and you have few resources to expend outside of regional meddling. Despite all the braggadocio, you rule over what is essentially a third world dumpster fire. Your options are extremely limited in trying to harm the United States, your chief geopolitical rival. Sure, you can buy some Facebook ads or perhaps hook a few morons with phishing emails, but none of that changes much of anything.

But then you notice something happening in the country you were targeting. By a stroke of luck, you no longer even have to spend any money to cause a political meltdown in world’s only superpower. All you have to do is send a few signals to foreign intel agencies of what you “might try to do” and the division sows itself.

That’s essentially the situation we now face. Our own intel agencies are doing Russia’s bidding, possibly unwittingly, but with very little excuse at this point. What’s more disruptive? A stupid Twitter bot operating inside a bubble (political social media is already hardened with partisanship) or the nation’s major newspapers causing a red panic every few months? Which gets more exposure? Which produces more discord, hatred, and chaos?

    Shem Horne
    @Shem_Infinite
I hate to break it to the entire media, but Russia isn’t trying to help anyone become President, they are trying to sow chaos and distrust in our institutions, and you are the only ones helping them do that.

  209. Hence why I fitted a – “>Camber Compensator to the rear of my 62 1/2 Beetle – stopped the wheels from tucking under.

And American drivers did exactly the same.
In 1965, the second generation Corvair was released with a new fully articulated rear suspension which eliminated the danger of the previous generation’s swing axles. It was more expensive to produce than the swing axles.
The funny thing is, so long as owners of the swing axle versions maintained the eleven pound differential between its front (15/19lbs) and rear (26/30lbs) tires, the Corvair’s handling was friendly and innocuous.
But Yanks were (and are) not known for monitoring their vehicle’s tire pressure.
They ignored the handbook and put 24lbs all round.
That’s something that hasn’t changed about Yanks.
    You can’t tell them anything.

Heartbroken Dad Of Trans Teen Breaks Gag To Beg For End Of ‘State-Sponsored Child Abuse’

For the past 11 months, Robert Hoogland, a father in Surrey, British Columbia, has been forced to watch as his 14 year-old daughter was “destroyed and sterilized” by court-ordered testosterone injections. After losing his legal appeal to stop the process in January, Rob (previously anonymized as “Clark” or “CD”) is making a desperate attempt to bring his case into the courts of public opinion, even though it breaks a court order demanding his silence about the case.

“I had a perfectly healthy child a year ago, and that perfectly healthy child has been altered and destroyed for absolutely no good reason,” Rob said in an exclusive interview. “She can never go back to being a girl in the healthy body that she should have had. She’s going to forever have a lower voice. She’ll forever have to shave because of facial hair. She won’t be able to have children…”

Rob felt that at the age of 14—when the courts judged his daughter competent to take testosterone without parental consent—she simply did not have the foresight necessary to understand such consequences. Over the course of the past year, Rob has heard his daughter’s voice deepen and crack and watched her begin to grow facial hair.

“Sometimes I just want to scream so that other parents and people will… jump in, understand what’s going on,” Rob said. “There’s a child—and not only mine, but in my case, my child out there having her life ruined,” and yet, Rob felt, “people don’t [even] know.”

Police: Couple Ran Teen Boys off Road for Trump Flags

The left ruling class and its minions at work. Their sense of their superiority justifies any vile act. The 2-tier justice system in the US will get Trump re-elected. The irony is of course is that the left ruling is completely inept, stupid and destructive. Every Western nation has a swamp and it is like a parasite which destroys the host. Which makes Trump’s snip at Parasite winning the Oscar, as if anyone normal gives a rats about the Oscars, doubly insightful.

The left, they turn everything they touch into shit.

  237. Elizabeth (Lizzie) Beare

There’s a lot of human emotional investment in all of those experiences. Most people would know this from their own lives and their own extended families, as well as from work and professional lives. Stop the gender blame game.

Sounds like pointless dibble that’s spouted for decades Lizzie.

Can’t see your point here, Bespoke (from last thread) because I agree that the feminists are still blaming away like fury. I’ve continued to read the various comments about this horrific murder-suicide by a father so full of entitlement that he could even consider making these murderous plans let alone carrying them out. My point is that I am still on the side of Bettina Arndt, who would like to reduce the ‘blame the man’ kneejerk response (stop the gender blame game).

The first statement I made there simply says what we all know to be true – that marriages are complex and thus there must be a better way to approach marital break-ups than slam straight into the gender wars. Until we move away from doing this, then women are always going to bask in an assumed righteousness and men are going to get more and more angry at not being heard.

I viewed the video of that man with his kids. He obviously adored them, and like many men (my daughter’s husband comes to mind, and a nicer and better father you couldn’t find) the rough-house may get a bit too rough on occasion, spurred on by the kids’ delight. That mum’s nervous titter was a little sign to me that she had lost authority, I think, or perhaps was too much into the gym ideology to care. Many mums intervene when things get a little too tough for a toddler to cope well – close to the ‘it’ll all end in tears’ situation. That’s the difference between men and women, and viva la difference. That said, I don’t really know what was going on in that relationship, or with them both and the kids, because all ‘clues’ are post hoc and very tenuous. Let others more in the know sort it out, later. But meantime, give fatherhood its rightful place in the lives of children and don’t let all of the discussion skew to make women constant victims in cases where they are not. This would improve things in general and I know that this is what Bettina Arndt was getting at. Gender wars divide and that makes break-ups worse.
