Whahahahaha – ‘activist’ discovers free speech

Someone called Gary Burns sent David Leyonhjelm and Cory Bernardi an email:

If you two Un-Australian pathetic little turds are not happy with our multi-cultural Australian society why don’t you pack up your Mrs.and the kids and “ f ** k off ” out of our country.
There is no such thing as free speech in Australia.
If you two dangerous hate mongering bastards were to publish images ridiculing Muslims or Jews on the internet contemptuously it would be an unlawful act under the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977. ( NSW ).
According to you two incongruous imbeciles it would be free speech to incite hatred against the Australian Jewish & Muslim Communities.
Over my dead body !

Heh – well talk about leading with your chin. Reminds me of this classic line:

Princess Leia: I’d rather kiss a wookie.
Han Solo: That can be arranged.

David Leyonhjelm however, being polite to a fault, replied as follows:

Dear Gary
Go fuck yourself you communist turd.
Regards,
David Leyonhjelm

and then again

Dear Gary,
It appears you have not yet acted on my advice. Please do so. Go fuck yourself as soon as possible. The world will be a better place.
Regards,
David Leyonhjelm

Now David, that sets a very poor example; it should be “Kind Regards” not just “Regards”. You risk sounding abrupt and contemptuous. It is the little things that make people feel appreciated.

So how has our correspondent responded?

In what can only be described as an horrendous attack on myself, not only Senator David Leyonjhelm’s personal abusive and disgusting innuendo I am dealing with, there are also other parties wishing the same disgusting outcome to my person. [Organisation], an organisation that prides itself on mentoring younger adults, has emailed me other disgusting suggestions I should perform…Someone within that organisation that has access to their email address [email address here] , has sent numerous emails.

I am now in fear of my life and will be pursuing the NSW Police to see if I can obtain Apprehension Violence Orders against Senator David leyonjhelm and the person at [organisation]

Read the whole exchange here.

Update: David was provoked into the second email by a complaint from Burns to the Senate President:

    Yes, but isn’t he correct?

I applaud Mr Leyonhelm’s response – and deplore Mr Burns’ publishing of what I assume were private correspondence without the Senator’s permission – but at the end of the day, Burns is in the right.

Charlie Hebdo WOULD be prosecuted in this country under the racial discrimination act. The difference is that we find that deplorable, whereas he finds that a source of joy.

  2. Big_Nambas

Looks like there might be some good old poofter bashing in the offing!

  3. Grandma

This is a spoof, right? This clown cannot possibly be for real. He uses obscene language to the Senator and wants to complain when the Senator responds in kind? Who is this dick anyway?

  4. Token

I am now in fear of my life and will be pursuing the NSW Police to see if I can obtain Apprehension Violence Orders against Senator David leyonjhelm and the person at [organisation]

How can we check to see the amount of public money this vexacious troublemaker has squandered over the years?

  5. Clam Chowdah

Why did David even respond? Lacked class for a senator, but perfectly fine for an Internet time waster like myself and other Cats.

  6. Token

That was my thought. Every fruitbat and frightbat on the left with legal coverage will now be provoking him.

If you are wondering what I mean, look at the type who made the “punch” claim against Abbott and the types who stood by her.

  7. Tel

When I was a kid people used to say, “It’s a free country!”

I don’t hear that as often any more, suggest people should start using it again; irony is the new “bacon”.

I am now in fear of my life and will be pursuing the NSW Police to see if I can obtain Apprehension Violence Orders against Senator David leyonjhelm and the person at [organisation]

What a bullshit artist. Wasting police time like this is exactly the reason budgets keep going up while actual protection offered gets less and less.

  8. .

    “Vexatious litigant” comes to mind.

    Unbecoming a Senator?

Perhaps, but I consider it “counter trolling”.

    To wit:

I am now in fear of my life and will be pursuing the NSW Police to see if I can obtain Apprehension Violence Orders against Senator David leyonjhelm and the person at [organisation]

If it takes a loss of grace to make someone look like an idiot, I’d be prepared to be totally graceless.

  9. Bruce of Newcastle

    This is a spoof, right?

No. Mr Burns is a long time stirrer. He even tried to get ALP preselection, but he was so off the planet the Liars booted him. That is a badge of activist pride to be too far out to be a Labor comrade.

  12. John Comnenus

I thought being told to go fuck yourself was purely rhetorical as it is physically impossible.

It is beyond me how that constitutes a threat that to Mr Burns’s life. He seems to be fishing for compo or a damages settlement.

Even though I have no time for Mr Burns, who can dish it out but whinges when it comes back (verbally), it was foolish of Sen L to send such a rude email in reply. Of course Mr Burns will stand by his right to be rude to the Senators, but whinge if they are rude in reply. What a hypocritical jerk.

  13. harrys on the boat

David L’s response was spot on. Why would you debate such a complete twat? Go Fuck Yourself, was all that needed to be said.

  14. Robbo

I always like a good debate between people of equal intellect. It appears that Burns and Leyonhjelm fit that bill very well.

  15. A Lurker

A bully evidently didn’t like Senator Leyonhjelm standing up to him, and is now running home to tell on him to Mummy.

And here I am thinking that these sort of antics were confined to Primary School playgrounds?

  16. David

If this creature Burns wishes to engage in Lawfare so be it. Let the battle begin. There must be some law/regulation/restriction in this over-regulated country that prohibits referring to a Senator/MP in that way. If there is then, as much as I despise the idea, the Senator should bring out the big guns and give the little twit a salvo. Payed for by the taxpayer of course but then it would be money better spent than a lot of the other useless things our money is squandered on.
As for inviting Burns to have intercourse with himself why wish him any enjoyment at all?

  17. Andore Jr

If this creature Burns wishes to engage in Lawfare so be it. Let the battle begin.

If Leyonhjelm chooses that path then he will erode his own principles and become just like every other politician.

  18. Menai Pete

David Leyonhjelm has just gone up in my admiration. It is time that all pretentious, Fairfax reading, ABC listening, inner-city social justice wankers were treated with a similar measure of disrespect.

  19. JC

The real question to ask is why isn’t burns in a mental asylum. Sure, he tried preselection for the liars party, but still.

  20. .

    Andore

Lawfare is why conservatives and libertarians get beaten up.

Look at Peter Spencer for example.

    Look at Bolt.

Even a pacifist has a point where they fight back.

Are you a pacifist, or a passivist (no fighting back whatsoever, “absolute pacificist”)?

  21. Tel

… the Senator should bring out the big guns and give the little twit a salvo.

I believe that the Houses of Parliament have access to punitive powers. The key case being Raymond Edward Fitzpatrick and Frank Courtney Browne of the “Bankstown Observer” newspaper, who got thrown in gaol because of articles accusing Charles Albert Aaron Morgan (Member for Reid) of corruption.

    http://naa.gov.au/collection/fact-sheets/fs204.aspx

The power is exercised by the Privileges Committee and tends to be used very rarely.

The real question to ask is why isn’t burns in a mental asylum.

Does he have a productive means of employment or is he, perhaps, on some sort of government subsidy for his activism ?

  23. Yon Toad

” pursuing the NSW Police ” – pursuing? Whatever floats your boat I guess. I recommend STD testing before performing the self-harm.

  24. Why did David even respond?

    Very, very imprudent.

Silence is the best response to people like that.

  25. Mat

I see from the link that this old queen (his own self-description) is also a vocal supporter of our Islamist contingent. Why would you support a group who will kill you at their first available opportunity, whilst you harass and abuse the very people who stand in their way? Kudos to David L. – reasoned argument would be wasted on this individual.

  26. Andore Jr

Even a pacifist has a point where they fight back.

So do it with words and arguments, not lawyers.

As long as he resists the temptation to pick up the litigation phone, Leyonhjelm can proudly say he is engaging in full, frank, and open debate which should not be hampered by law – fully consistent with his position so far – however crude it is.

  27. JC

I am now in fear of my life

Lol. So this reprehensible lettwing scumbag thinks being told to go fuck himself is a threat to his life.

In all honesty I never thought there were beta males… Omega males as bad as this fruitcake.

I hope he does go to the police. They’ll get a good laugh from two but piker.

  28. I can see a disturbing amount of self disgust in old mate Garry’s writings.
On 27 September last year, he describes himself thus ” Garry Burns said , “ I may be an old Queen but …” which gives us cause to understand that he may be homosexual.
In reply to Senator Leyonhjelm’s enlightened suggestion, Garry seems to claim that rather than being the loving and caring action of committed adults, the recommended actions constitute “…self harm …., by penetrating my anus..” and that this was a “… disgusting outcome to my person”.
Does anybody else see this as just a tad of self loathing, or is it just hypocrisy?

Im with the senator on this one, a firm “go fuck yourself”, possibly followed by “and keep your nose out of everybody elses business” is the tonic over-regulated and nannied Australia needs.

Imagine the hell in Garrys mind that would be unleashed if people didnt feel they had the right to wag their fingers at others, and if every time a finger was wagged the senators response was standard?

I suppose that the Mr Burns now just waits to get a sympathetic judge who will demand Sen Leyonhjelm pay damages to Mr Burns.

That is why the Senator should have been very firm but polite. Telling him to get lost and get his nose out of other people’s business would have been sufficient. Interestingly Mr Burns doesn’t complain about being called a communist turd.

But I don’t get it. As Mr Burns is a homosexual activist, and presumably gay, then how can being told to penetrate his anus be considered malicious? I assume Mr Burns either has other men do this to his anus or he does it to some other guy’s anus or both. Either way he either enjoys it and or enjoys doing it to others – so how can it be assault?

Seems Mr Burns is really clutching at straws here. But, no doubt there will be some sympathetic judge that agrees with Mr Burns – he will just keep appealing until he finds the lotto Judge.

  54. JC

Never ever been banned, Ari. I didn’t take long for the first lie to appear in print, did it, you groveling little snake.

By the way, your link shows you groveling to Sinc over having been banned or something. Nothing to do with me.

  55. Petros

Nailed it, Token. He’s behaving like Abbott on that one.
Maybe they’ll really, really like me if I stick my neck out for them.

  56. In some ways I’d like to take things further. Let’s allow some conscientious objection rights to non-participants in the Charlie marching and Charlie signalling.

People who don’t like Charlie Hebdo or what it stands for (deep-green snobby urban Left) are finding themselves challenged to take a side, stand with the throng, to show courage by publishing etc. It’s assumed that if I’m not on the Charlie team I’m weak on freedom and western values. This is starting to look a bit like conscription (and I said “a bit” because I don’t want to play the victim here). I admire the enormous courage of those people who stood their ground, but I don’t admire their actual ground, okay?

Surely freedom of speech means I can wish the pusuit and death of terrorist assassins without having to get on Equipe Charlie. One reason I’m not Charlie is its own record on freedom of speech and other freedoms. Also, having lived around that part of Paris, I’m so thoroughly over bistro socialists with their Sartre tribute clothing and Sartre posturings. Lastly, I just hate the silly rag they produce.

We are yet to see how loudly Charlie Hebdo will speak out for those arrested in recent days for expressing opinions seen as favourable to terrorism. The comedian Dieudonne, another talentless oaf who gets by on shocking those he can’t otherwise entertain, is among the arrested. Wanting that Jew-hater’s freedom of expression is a real strain for me…but I do want it.

On the other hand, Gary Burns really should go fuck himself.

    Je suis Hypermarcher.

  57. Empire

    Well done Senator.

The left abandoned civility long ago.

    (so stupid it) Burns:

There is no such thing as free speech in Australia.

DLs response was concise and clever. He not so subtly exercised his right to freedom of expression, though it would have been lost on the commie turd.

I support my elected reps dealing with obscene leftist numpties with obscene retaliation. If you don’t, don’t vote for them and demand reps that ask nicely for the delinquents to please, if isn’t too much trouble, to stop trashing the joint. They won’t listen, but hey, manners.

  58. Andore Jr

How is Leyonhjelm supposed to gather a following of free-minded individuals if he can’t even resist the temptation to pick up the lawyer-phone?

  59. .

Token you’re imagining stuff that has never happened.

No one who was gay forced the party into supporting a very well considered form of gay marriage.

In fact, many gays were entirely sceptical, because we weren’t the usual left wing nutters who attach themselves to gay causes.

The point is that gays know now they don’t have to vote for leftists not to end up with Fred Nile.

The LDP tried to be too clever and surrendered on the question of gay marriage without demanding concessions and acknowledgement. In return for the gesture they have been treated with the disdain those activist treat anyone that acts like a soft touch.

I am happy to change my mind when I see the number of votes from the booths in Paddington return large number of primary votes for the LDP. I do hope NSW elections is as transparent as the AEC with its returns so we can measure the success of the “strategy”.

  66. J.H.

Gary Burns, quote: “Over my dead body !”

In a country that has speech laws Mr Gary Burns just intimated violence. He just invoked a fight to the death….. and he said it himself. “There is no such thing as free speech in Australia.” So he knows the full consequences of inflammatory speech.

The irony of course is that he immediately runs to Mommy State the moment he runs full tilt into some firm words telling him where to go….. It’d be funny if it wasn’t so pathetic.

  73. Leo G

What is the nature of the threat warranting an Apprehended Violence Order?
It can only be that Burns fears that he may act on the suggestions to “f**k himself”- an apprehension of self-harm.
How would an AVO against self harm operate? A court-ordered straight jacket perhaps?
Wouldn’t sit well on a gay activist.

  83. Boss Hog

It’s a pity that Leyonhjelm couldn’t have come up with some witty response rather than resorting to coarseness – sinking to an opponent’s level is seldom a good idea.
Drollery is usually admired and applauded: crudity, however, tends to leave an unpleasant aftertaste – no matter how much one might agree with the basic sentiment. I once had a rather urbane colleague whose invariable response to provocation was to, “go forth and multiply”! He was universally liked by both friend and by foe.
I think that the incident will hurt Leyonhjelm in the longer term. His operating environment is the Senate of the Parliament of Australia, not the factory floor.

  84. .

  88. Mk50 of Brisbane, Henchman to the VRWC

This is hilarious, and a very good indication of the stupidity and fragility of the left.

This window-licking, mouthbreathing “old Queen” is illustrating a few things vitally important here in the battle against the left:

    1. They cannot handle resistance
    2. They break down (probably mentally in this case, he’s obviously a chair-leg-savaging barking mad fruitcake) and reveal their utter idiocy when you refuse to play by their rule that ‘I can do anything, you must keep to a higher standard and cannot respond in kind’
    3. Using their own tactics against them is very effective.

While I not a particular fan of the Senator, he has just risen considerably in my estimate.

Using my right to free speech gary is definitely a maroon. (To quote bugs).

I was thinking of something like:
“Dear Mr Burns, your rude and crude proposals for the ruination of the Australian economy require some initial testing. In the true spirit of scientific endeavour, I suggest that you attempt same upon yourself (if you are able).”
and let him figure it out for himself. If he can’t get the joke, tough!

You’re never going to win votes being nice to pricks like this weirdo, never. Play them at their own game.

I reckon the Libs ought to adopt this method whenever dealing with these types, could you imagine Q&A episodes of the future?

Tony Jones – “Do you have a response to being called a heartless child killer Scott Morrison?”.

Scott Morrison – “Well Tony, I think Mr Burnside should go fuck himself. And you can go fuck yourself too Tony.”

Considering moving to NSW just so I can for for Leyonhjelm.

Oh, and Gary. Go fuck yourself.

Just sent the little commie an email my self exercising my free speech in support of Davids free speech.

Perhaps he was channelling Michael O’Donoghue

When the noted playwright George Bernard Shaw sent him two tickets to the opening night of his new play with a note that read: “Bring a friend, if you have one,” Churchill, not to be outdone, promptly wired back: “You and your play can go fuck yourselves.”

I am happy to change my mind when I see the number of votes from the booths in Paddington return large number of primary votes for the LDP.

If we cared about votes over principle then we wouldn’t have bothered starting a libertarian party to begin with.

  96. Mat

@ Craig Mc – I reckon Churchill’s actual response to George Bernard Shaw was way better –

“Cannot possibly attend first night; will attend second, if there is one.”

    Winston, that was hilarious!

Have you seen this idiot’s ‘activist’ site? It has to be the most narcissistic ‘look at me’ site I have seen for a while. The site is one typical of a person so self-obsessed and unhappy with themselves that they are perpetually hateful at the world. It’s quite sad, and I find it deeply pitiful, to be honest.

An irrelevant man, desperately trying to combat his own irrelevance.

Checked with a couple of the homosexual cousins. They know of this guy, and say he’s mostly disliked or actively despised in the homosexual community.

The words ‘loser’ and ‘tosser’ were about the most polite used. So even his own community does not seem to like his actions or him very much. Which turns ‘sad and deeply pitiful’ into almost lyrically pathetic, really.

People who don’t like Charlie Hebdo or what it stands for (deep-green snobby urban Left) are finding themselves challenged to take a side, stand with the throng, to show courage by publishing etc.

You don’t have to. Lots of people who attended the march, held placards and bought the next edition (millions!) did so not because they liked the magazine or what it stands for (very few did) but simply because they supported their right to publish what they want. A lot of them quoted Voltaire:

People who don’t like Charlie Hebdo or what it stands for (deep-green snobby urban Left) are finding themselves challenged to take a side, stand with the throng, to show courage by publishing etc.

Is that so hard to understand?

  101. BorisG

or that is not quite Voltaire. Meant to quote:

I do not agree with what you have to say, but I’ll defend to the death your right to say it.

  102. Mk50 of Brisbane, Henchman to the VRWC

Agreed, Boris. Hebdo reminds me of nothing more than Greenfilth Left Weekly. It aspires to undergrad level in every way and only a greenfilther would subscribe to it.

    Sultan Knish nails it:

It was not the Charlie Hebdo cartoonists, who specialized in offending all religions, who made their Mohammed cartoons into a symbol. It was their Muslim enemies who did it by killing them. It is intellectually dishonest for Muslims to create martyrs and then complain about their martyrdom.

Blasphemy against Christianity and Judaism fizzles because the lack of a violent response makes those responsible seem like bullies. Instead of revealing flaws in those religions, works like Piss Christ or Monster Mohel reveal the flaws in their makers.Their attempts at blasphemy prove self-destructive.

Muslim violence against the Mohammed cartoons however turns them into the bullies. The Hebdo cartoons did no damage to Christianity or Judaism. They did a great deal of damage to Islam, not because they were well done, but because Islam is shot through with violent anger and insecurity.

The spiritual power of religion balances between violence and non-violence. Most religions believe that there is a time to fight, but only Islam believes in violence as the first and final religious solution.

Mohammed cartoons exist because of the Islamic inability to cope with a non-theocratic society. Islamic Cartoonophobia is not only a danger to cartoonists. It’s a threat to all of our religious freedoms.

I reread Mr Burns original email.
Its fascinating how he lumped muslims & jews together in his seemingly disordered rant..
& how opposed he is to the concept of free speech.
No one in their right mind ,would have an irrational fear of any member of Australia’s jewish community running amok with AK47’s,..on the other hand….

Could he just have been exhibting a level of rat like ,leftish cunning of stalking the good senator ,in simply laying the ground work for another notch on his CV belt by achieving an AVO .
Typical MO of someone white anting our community in the community organiser /activist “Gramsci ” mode.
