And on it goes

I wonder what Malcolm thinks about all this. As an actual plan of action, what do you suppose he has in mind?

In regard to the last story about Iran, the news at the end is the best bit:

Iran’s stockpile of low-enriched uranium had increased by 460.2 kg in the past three months to 8,305.6 kg, the report said. Under the deal with major powers, that stockpile must be slashed to no more than 300 kg.

The senior diplomat, however, said the increase was a normal fluctuation.

“There is nothing special in that. It’s the normal way,” he said.

If by normal we mean typical, I’m sure that’s true.

AND HOW COULD I HAVE MISSED THIS? Islamic State says ‘Schweppes bomb’ used to bring down Russian plane. The story comes with a picture.

A photo published in Islamic State magazine Dabiq shows a can of Schweppes Gold soft drink and what appeared to be a detonator and switch on a blue background

Just let that sink in for a bit. Specially when you consider this: ISIS: Sharm el-Sheikh Soda-Can Bomb Plot Originally Targeted Western Airliner.

No enforcement mechanism from the Chamerlains of our time. Enforcing might offend someone!

    Only a matter of time

There is no use in multiplying examples. The point is that we are all capable of believing things which we know to be untrue, and then, when we are finally proved wrong, impudently twisting the facts so as to show that we were right. Intellectually, it is possible to carry on this process for an indefinite time: the only check on it is that sooner or later a false belief bumps up against solid reality, usually on a battlefield.

George Orwell, ‘In Front of Your Nose’, March 1946.

    Here comes the battlefield.

Look – I am only playing internet CSI here, but I wonder if this isn’t some red herring from ISIS to get security looking in the wrong direction for other bombs ?

So there is a container ( the can), a detonator and a switch.

If there is no timer or pressure switch – and I am not good at electronics, so I can’t tell if the switch has more to it than just ‘on/off’ – than somehow someone would have had to hit ‘on’ to detonate.

If it was this, it must have been rigged in the galley or toilets against a door – how would a trigger bomb go off by itself in the baggage bay ?

Happy to stand corrected, but I suspect ISIS are playing with us here and want everyone to be looking at soft drink cans.

Here is a plan for your consideration. The mission is to resolve the fundamentalist muslim threat, once and for all, by resolving some of mankind’s most fundamental philosophical questions. In essence, it is global conflict resolution by experiment.
I refer to setting up a deliberate, direct and widely publicised test of the Islamic equivalent to Revelations, the end of days apocalypse. The plan centres on a prophecy, said to be written down by Mohammed as dictated by Allah. It concerns a major battle starting at Dabiq, between the faithful and “Rome”. The West takes the role of Rome. If you don’t know about this prophecy, then you will never understand fundamentalist Islam. I am not going to tell you about it here. Not my job. Do your own research.
So, this prophecy includes a strong role for us, the westerners. Not that they consulted us.
It requires us to assemble an army, under 80 “banners”, with 12,000 soldiers under each banner. For the non-mathematically inclined, that is 960,000 troops. These days, it probably involves more, what with support arms (tanks, artillery), air support, and the needed long logistics chain. That army is going to take up a large part of central Syria, centred on this Dabiq place.
Now we would also need a large media contingent, to widely broadcast the outcomes. They can do it as straight news, or maybe even as a lifestyle program on a grand scale. Don’t care, so long as the world is watching.
    So, the battle will advance, with a final face off at Jerusalem. Now at this point, according to the prophecy, some of the remaining Muslim army clears off, some are killed and some are victorious. However, and here is the good bit, the victory is achieved when Jesus suddenly appears, and spears the leader of the Roman army. Now if that happens, I want it on camera. It will prove several things;
    Jesus is a muslim.
The fundamentalists were right all along, and
We should welcome our new Muslim overlords.
    But, if it doesn’t happen;
The islamic army will be destroyed, and
Islamism as a creed will be shown to the world as fraud, and (in the absence of pretty serious reformation) will blow away like dust in the wind.
Atheism and Agnosticism get a bit of a leg up.
So, is that a plan or what?

    From Pickering:

If you doubt where Turkish hearts lie, witness Monday night’s soccer game with Greece where convenors attempted to hold a minute’s silence for the 132 Parisians murdered last Friday. The 30,000-strong Turkish crowd erupted with boos and screams of Allahu Akbar… there was no silence.

  12. I am the Walras, Equilibrate and Price Take says:

    Phill,

    I like your thinking.

Won’t happen, not for a little while anyway, because Islamic State has nothing to do with islam. Maocolm and George Brandis told me, so it must be true.

The only question now, given both what is happening and the refusal of elites to believe their lying eyes, is – how many people have to die before western leaders acknowledge the reality of islamic terrorism?

That really is the $64,000 question, I think.

It will require a mass casualty event or pollies involved before anyone even considers reality.

    Keep them end-time narratives rolling.
They fit nicely with an argument that allied ground forces in the region just provide ISIS with oxygen and recruits, while broadcasting the truism that the allies are in a war against Islam.
Obamites give the impression that US proxies will participate in a power-sharing government in Syria with Assad and his allies. But those US proxies now mostly appear to be closely linked to ISIS.
So what do the Americans really want to achieve by preserving ISIS?

Is that really enough to bring down a plane?

The evidence supports a scenario where the tail separated from the aircraft during normal flight at an altitude of about 10,000 metre. The scenario is not consistent with the drink can bomb- how could it so rapidly trigger such a major structural failure of the aircraft?

Applying our laws, strong ones against threats and violence, to those who live amongst us holding violent beliefs is the best we can do, as well as taking no more Muslims into our country. There are plenty of other displaced people to help.

Think about the facilities and equipment that are housed INSIDE the passenger cabin of your basic airliner.

If the integrity of the pressurized fuselage skin is breached at 30,000ft., things will get VERY nasty, VERY quickly.

But, it is always worth keeping in mind that a LOT of the bozos who appear on the NET and elsewhere dressed up and ready to meet their “virgins”, are wanna-be types and cannon-fodder, used to distract and divert, in the classic muslim way.
