Notwithstanding my link to the fuckwit journo dissing islamophobes above no one can outdo phillip adams for pure shit; how his typewriter/computer doesn’t combust at the sheer arrogance and stupidity of his words is amazing:

    A

    comment on the commentariat.

It is always right. Hail to the wisest of wisdoms, the wisdom of hindsight. As history was happening it was being rewritten. The world was deafened by cries of “Told you so!” Loudest of all from those who hadn’t.

‘Twas ever thus. I’m old enough to remember the unapologetic media enthusiasm for the Vietnam War, the refusal to admit defeat. More recently, you’ll recall the sainted New York Times publishing fables of WMDs, providing justification for the invasion of Iraq. Even my friend Christopher Hitchens signed up. I remember the applause for Mission Accomplished, but can’t remember many “we were wrongs”.

    Not even from Christopher.

We in the commentariat – columnists and shock-jocks – have to claim a secular form of papal infallibility. If we were revealed to be as unreliable as the pollsters, the Earth would tilt on its axis. Oracles must be Delphic.

    Equilibrium must be maintained.

Thus the victory of you-know-who (sorry, can’t bring myself to type the name) has to be seen as this or that pundit’s prediction.

Well, I admit it. I was wrong. Despite a lack of enthusiasm for the Clintons (if only the Democrats had gone with Bernie Sanders or Elizabeth Warren), I refused to believe that someone devoid of human dignity, of human decency, could become the most powerful human in modern history. And that’s exactly what he is. Though 45 per cent of the electorate couldn’t be bothered voting – or were prevented from doing so – the new president will wield more political power than any of his predecessors for (count them) 100 years.

Ducks in a row. Planets aligned. The Presidency and Congress locked and loaded.

The Supreme Court about to start singing his tune. The protections envisaged in the US constitution? Behold a president unchecked and, in both senses of the word, unbalanced. He was and is despised by much of his party, including previous Republican presidents. Now, to borrow a phrase from fellow vulgarian Mark Latham, a “conga line of suckholes” stretches from Manhattan and encircles the globe.

Conservative critics queue to kiss his rump.

(Oops, almost said the T word.) These include our own Prime Minister, who had to await his 15 minutes of shame. Cory Bernardi, One Nation, the NRA and the KKK had got in first.

For US Republicans, no matter how repulsed they were at the prospect, there’s now loot to be looted, spoils to be divvied, jobs to be filled, fun to be had – as decades of hard-won reforms in everything from human rights and health policy to environmental sanity are trashed. He even promises to bring back torture, crueller than ever.

As the removalist vans head from Fifth to Pennsylvania Avenue, we will look back at the lunacies of George W as a golden era.

What a slimeball; every comment on his article scorns him. Why would Murdoch continue to publish such a dickhead?

    Statism at it’s finest.

Regulate the living shit out of something, suck all the joy out of it, bankrupt businesses to pander to noisy hippies, then blow a heap of other peoples money employing public servants and maaaates in marketing to cajole the oeople you’ve driven off to return to their past-time, while bossing them around the odd time they could be arsed participating. Apparently a majority voted for this. Devoltuon continues apace.

I’ve been away for a little while but having returned a few days ago can’t help but notice that Lizzie is back and Grigory seems to have disappeared. Are these two events linked?

I am back under HIA’s sufferance, an hour a day max. I wuz pining away with cold turkey. I left due to trouble at mill. Home front stuff. Nothing to do with Grigs, who still commented here after that.

I read the Adams’ article and if that’s his sarky way of saying sorry, so be it. He was still WRONG and continues to baste in it. Low and slow lefty cooking; just baste occasionally with a trigger word or two.

    I am getting worried.

    Relax Lizzie.

Could they really overturn the result and we get Crooked back?

Highly unlikely. DNC has even admitted there is no evidence of shenanigans in the election. The Greens are just being dickheads.

How would that work? Civil war?

If it ever got to that, then civil war is the only response. The good news is that The Donald has sewn up the gun owning demographic.

Only if you select migrants for their propensity to form Apex gangs, join motorcycle crime gangs (or unions), Islamists and welfarism then yes.

I’m not interested in how many runs Renshaw gets.

I want to see him occupy the crease. Australia is in dire need of batsmen capable of saving a test and hopefully Renshaw can do that.

  16. Tom

Move along. Nothing to see here. Just another day in Dickhead Dan’s lawless multiculti crime capital (Paywallian):

Four people, including a woman in her 80s and a child, have been rushed to hospital in Melbourne after a knife-wielding man pushed them off a train platform directly into the path of an oncoming train.

The daylight attack occurred earlier this morning when the man allegedly went on a stabbing spree at Glenhuntly station in the city’s southeast and proceeded to push four passengers on to the tracks.

It is alleged the 45-year-old man initially stabbed a woman’s handbag and then, after his knife broke in half, went on to assault the four women before pushing them off the platform and onto the tracks.

“The women were pushed off the platform onto the tracks and all sustained non- life threatening injuries,” a police spokeswoman said, adding that all four have been taken to hospital.

The woman in her 80s is reported to have suffered head and leg injuries while another woman in her 60s suffered facial injuries. The alleged attacker, a man from Carnegie, has been arrested and is assisting police with their inquiries.

Of course, he’s a wannabe terrorist, but Dickhead Dan will be on the six o’clock news to explain he has a mental illness and there’s no law-and-order problem.

  17. Makka

I want to see him occupy the crease. Australia is in dire need of batsmen capable of saving a test and hopefully Renshaw can do that.

A perfect example is the last innings by SA’s Cook. A gritty ton. Hung on like a limpet and frustrated our bowlers immensely. Paid no attention to his run rate just dug in and refused to be baited. Very impressive stuff.

I see Warner flailing about again. Fme.

    Ragu, Craddock’s doing it too.

  21. The Supreme Court about to start singing his tune. The protections envisaged in the US constitution? Behold a president unchecked and, in both senses of the word, unbalanced.

Where was this dickhead when Obama said all he needed was “a pen and a phone” and could make any executive order he wanted? When the Supreme Court simply made shit up in its decisions in Windsor and Obergefell? When state A-Gs simply refused to defend state referenda and their own constitutions? When the federal A-G refused to defend a federal statute that received almost universal support less than 20 years ago? He was as silent as a lamb, the turd.

I’m going to have to go back and listen to his conversations with the US ‘expert’ he regularly talks to on a Tuesday, if memory serves, and see what they said just before and right after the election.

Warner will win this test in the hour or so.

I like to see Warner attack the bowling because that can put games beyond reach for the opposition very quickly. The thing is we don’t need every batsmen to play that way. The key is partnerships and Renshaw’s role should be to hold up one end. So far he is doing well.

While I like Warner’s batting, I’m not a big fan of his TV ads. Apparently he loves sitting on his couch watching his OLED.

  40. Oh come on

The purpose of marriage for the activists is to force you to accept an alternative lifestyle as legitimate. That’s what matters, hearing you call them married.

If only that was all they wanted. SSM is about forcing ‘conservative’ institutions to be ‘progressive’. It’s a new(ish) but crucial front in the Long March Through The Institutions. That the progs get to redefine the institution of marriage is a nice bonus for them but it’s not the main attraction – bringing to heel and weakening institutions beyond their control is. They want the socially conservative and the religious to be prevented from objecting to or obstructing in any way the roll-out of the progressive agenda across society.

The push for SSM has never been about ‘love’ or ‘equality’ or any of the other high-minded ideals the progs spout when discussing their intentions. It’s not a matter of ‘civil rights’ – quite the opposite. They don’t actually give a rat’s about teh gayz and their ‘rights’. What they want is to use the proxy violence of the state to compel social conservatives and the religious to publically live the progressive morality; make it illegal to live a life that is inconsistent with that morality. SSM is but a useful tool for fulfilling that ambition. If there was a proposal to legalise SSM that also specifically protected those with a moral objection to SSM from discrimination claims as a result of refusing to provide services to SSM ceremonies, refusing to recognise same-sex partnerships as married etc etc, you can bet your life the progs wouldn’t be interested in the deal. What they’re primarily interested in is gaining the power to prevent their ideological opponents from opposing them.

By using the force of law to knobble the institutions of the religious and the socially conservative, the progs hope to make these institutions an irrelevance to future generations. They want to burn the seed corn of their ideological opponents. They are aiming for nothing less than the total and permanent victory of their perspective. SSM is simply a means to that end. If you genuinely care about civil rights, you must oppose the progressive effort to legitimise SSM.

  41. Anne

Nothing here about the case being settled, so I presume this is so she can look good when it does reach court:

Labor MP Terri Butler says she has apologised to Queensland University of Technology student Calum Thwaites after smearing him as a probable racist and perjurer during last week’s Q&A program.

Ms Butler, who engaged former employer Maurice Blackburn to represent her after Mr Thwaites filed a defamation act in the Brisbane Magistrates Court last week, told Sky News that she had sent an apology to Mr Thwaites.

Mr Thwaites was cleared of racism in the Federal Circuit Court after Judge Michael Jarrett accepted that he did not write a Facebook post with the word “niggers” in May, 2013.

“I’m pleased to say that I’ve sent him an apology today,” the Griffith MP said

“For me it’s not about him, of course, it’s about the broad issue of whether or not there should be any watering down of our vilification laws in this country, particularly at a time when it feels to a lot of people as though there’s a real issue in terms of community cohesion, in terms of attacks on multiculturalism.”

Ms Butler — who last Monday suggested that Mr Thwaites had posted the word “niggers” — is accused of causing harm and injury by falsely implying that Mr Thwaites is a racist bigot and perjurer who deceived the Federal Circuit Court.

Mr Thwaites’ lawyer Tony Morris QC filed a 21-page statement of claim seeking damages, aggravated damages and interest “not exceeding the jurisdiction of this court”, which awards up to $150,000.

Ms Butler, a QUT graduate, was given until just before Christmas to file her defence to the proceedings.

Earlier this month, Judge Jarrett dismissed a $250,000 racial hatred case brought under section 18C of the Racial Discrimination Act by QUT staff member Cindy Prior against Mr Thwaites and other students.

Ms Butler, who replaced Kevin Rudd in Griffith, made the brief comment about an apology to Mr Thwaites before launching an attack on federal Immigration Minister Peter Dutton.

“You had the immigration minister stand up in question time and talk about Lebanese Muslims, which was a terrible signalling to our community about having a Minister of the Crown being willing to single out a particular ethnic group and religious group for criticism in Question Time,” she said.

Ms Butler, from the Left faction, also launched a defence of 18C, which has been publicly criticised by government MPs following cases involving the QUT students and The Australian cartoonist Bill Leak.

“In all of those circumstances I think most people would prefer that we leave our racial vilification laws alone.”

“That we not make it easier to vilify people on the basis of their race, or on the basis of national origin or where they’re from.”

From the Oz – full article. Comments below are very negative about Butler.

IT is right. Cuckdom is an expression of Abbottesque cultural surrender: since the Enlightenment and the industrial revolution, English-speaking white people, with their commerce and technological ingenuity, have transformed the planet from a smoky, cold network of caves, not only allowing billions of people to breed and survive beyond childhood, but to prosper and attain happiness, underpinned by Christian morality that enables justice, fairness and human rights – only to have society’s losers, wracked with shame and self-loathing, now attempting to destroy Western civilisation – because it involves too much winning.

It’s certainly a lousy apology which confirms the high-handedness of Butler’s original imputation. Apologies can mitigate damages but this should be noted:

    DEFAMATION ACT 2005 – SECT 20
Effect of apology on liability for defamation
20 Effect of apology on liability for defamation

    (1) An apology made by or on behalf of a person in connection with any defamatory matter alleged to have been published by the person:
    (a) does not constitute an express or implied admission of fault or liability by the person in connection with that matter, and
    (b) is not relevant to the determination of fault or liability in connection with that matter.
    (2) Evidence of an apology made by or on behalf of a person in connection with any defamatory matter alleged to have been published by the person is not admissible in any civil proceedings as evidence of the fault or liability of the person in connection with that matter.
    (3) Nothing in this section limits the operation of section 38.

Butler is either arrogant to the point of stupidity or just stupid.

The claim that Trump is a truther is so incredibly weak that the tiny number of those making it try it once and don’t go there again. It’s certainly not a significant and recurring line of attack used against Trump. It would be (and justifiably so) IF he’d expressed truther perspectives. Thing is that he hasn’t. Arma, “hate” is too strong a word. But if it must be used I can say that I don’t hate Trump at all in the sense I hate, say, Hillary Clinton or Obama, because Trump clearly does not have ulterior motives behind his ambition to become POTUS. I was never a NeverTrumper.

I’ve said many times that he has, I think, a deep love for his country, unlike them. At one stage this was his strongest appeal to me, but since the election several of his appointments have been terrific and other actions, such as his excellent (prepared) statement addressing Castro’s death, have made me rethink some of the suspicions I’ve had about him.

Even the NYT interview isn’t troubling me because off the cuff he is often full of crap while his actions are increasingly speaking to me louder than his often incoherent an idiotic statements.

Bruce wanted to know….what is the great technical mistake in Camelot in the jousting scene. where Arthur meets Lancelot?

In medieval combat between horsed soldiers, the shield protected the rider’s left side. The lance was held in the right hand. In general action, you would use it anyhow, but in jousting – stylised fighting – you rode against the other bloke with him on your left. The shield protected you and the lance was held across your horse’s neck.

In Camelot they have each other on the right.

I don’t know and probably makes no difference, but could it be that both characters were left handed, either as in real live actors or the fictional ones they played?

I’m sure there were as many lefties then as now and they would have been at a clear disadvantage jousting in the ‘normal’ way?

  192. Ant

It would be (and justifiably so) IF he’d expressed truther perspectives.

Great. You’ve changed your standard. Very broad minded of you.

So here’s a no-ifs truther “perspective” as expressed by the man himself:

“They did know it was coming.”

Maybe I need to break it down: They, the Bush administration, did know it, the 9/11 attack, was coming.

So Bush knew it was coming but didn’t do anything to stop it. For you, holding such a stance is not ‘trutherism’ so it must be just mainstream opinion supported by findings from the 9/11 Commission which somehow leaves me as an outlier thinking it’s nuts.

Thing is that he hasn’t. And you haven’t provided any evidence that shows he has.

If you’re ever in court, stay clear of this line of defence.

BTW, what about your “not even the most fervent, most feverish, most hysterical anti-Trump fanatics characterise him as being a truther”, which was promptly refuted after simply googling “Trump” and “truther”? Still stubbornly digging your heels in on this one, too, I see.

This is the mark of the leftist.

The mark of a leftist can be many things, such as adopting Alinsky’s rule No. 13: “Pick the target, freeze it, personalize it, and polarize it.”

Notice this attribute in yourself in dealing with the issue at hand?

Unwritten rules. Carry a grudge until you sober up. Vaguely remember who might have insulted you in the past, and then accuse another Cat of doing so. Shrug your shoulders and pretend it didn’t happen. Deny it outright. Try to shit stir as often as possible. Don’t assume anyone has the same “sense of humour” as you. They don’t. Never argue with those who are smarter than your pre conceived idea of “smart”. Make friends of your enemies, and enemies of your friends. Always escalate. Avoid the “spaminator”.

Most importantly, don’t be a boring arsehat like Grigory. That will get you banned (deservedly so).

You might be right, those poleaxe guys are bloody fast, whereas I am old and slowing. But I am still very strong and can repalce speed with armour. mate and I are looking at HEMA, we both have an interest in Renaissance era fighting. I have found there’s a HEMA group on the Gold Coast.

Longsword/ Montate would suite me better than bastard and buckler, for example. And the Simple Rules of Diogo Gomes de Figueiredo’s “The Memorial for the Practice of the Montante” give an unusual basis for drill and solo practise (with a sharp!)

Mark A, it didn’t whether you were left handed or not, everyone managed their lance that way. it basically meant that in a line of cavalry everyone’s left was protected by the shield and your right was your sword arm.

The Camelot sequence is particularly silly in that they are using real horses and lances, and they were in quite a bit of danger in getting a blunted movie lance in their midriff.

The whole movie WAS a fantasy so I don’t imagine they had a technical advisor for that sort of thing.

Ms Butler, who received documents in relation to the defamation action late last week, described Mr Thwaites as the “plaintiff” during a brief apology made on Sky News yesterday.
