Recount in Wisconsin

An election recount will take place soon in Wisconsin, after former Green Party presidential candidate Jill Stein filed a petition Friday with the state’s Elections Commission, the first of three states where she has promised to contest the election result.

The move from Stein, who raised millions since her Wednesday announcement she would seek recounts of Donald Trump’s apparent election victories in Wisconsin, Pennsylvania and Michigan, came just 90 minutes before Wisconsin’s 5pm Friday deadline to file a petition. Now it will keep some hope alive for many Hillary Clinton supporters for another few weeks while Wisconsin recounts ballots before a December 13 deadline.

I enjoyed this statistic:

Trump secured a total of 1,404,000 votes in Wisconsin, according to the commission; Clinton had 1,381,823. Stein secured 31,006 votes.

But for the Greens Mrs Clinton would have won the state.

Update: Five Thirty Eight analysis here.

I’m sure the recount will remarkably reveal a win to Clinton. You heard it here first.

  2. Andrew says:

It’s hardly news, RB. The Greens aren’t about to spend $7m unless they felt the rerun election would deliver them the result they want. They have had the signal that the “missing” 24000 ballots are now in place and ready to be counted.

The fix is in. Podesta signalled it on election night.

Happy, “fresh-faced” Hillary at the shops is just biding her time.

I suspect yhat Trump will not be nearly as sloppy as the GOPe would be in this matter.

Any “mislaid” boxes of votes that suddenly turn up will need to have a cast iron provenance.

Say the recount in Wisconsin goes Clinton’s way, would it be enough? From memory the EC vote difference is huge.

  9. john constantine says:

Overthrowing the government would suit them, but their media is hellbent on assassinating the legitimacy of the Trump government.

This provides a string of media cycles that will attempt to hammer anti–Trumpiness into the voters instincts.

  10. Sinclair Davidson says:

    would it be enough?

No. She needs to take all three states.

  11. Indolent says:

Say the recount in Wisconsin goes Clinton’s way, would it be enough? From memory the EC vote difference is huge.

No, they would need all 3 of the states Stein mentioned and the differences are much greater in the other 2.

Stein is nothing more than a proxy for Clinton as she has, and had, no chance whatever of winning. If there was any genuine attempt to route out election fraud Trump would probably win 5 more states. Obama publicly encouraged ineligible non-citizens to vote and there were plenty of examples of voting machines switching votes from Trump to Clinton – not to mention the total preference of dead people for Clinton. There was no way that the Democrats could even raise this issue so they brought in a ring-in.

Apart from a feeling of chaos and an attempt to delegitimise Trump’s victory I can’t imagine what they hope to achieve but probably my imagination can’t plumb the depths of their depravity.

“The New York article includes just one example, a finding that Clinton did worse in counties in Wisconsin that used electronic voting machines instead of paper ballots”

That finding could be used to demonstrate her fake mail-in paper ballots just as easily as they are trying to tie it to ‘hacking’ of the vote machines.

  18. Andrew M. says:

If it were discovered that the Reps and Dems had each been rigging the election in different ways, wouldn’t that be embarrassing for the pundits who have “explained” Trump’s victory.

  19. Andrew says:

That finding could be used to demonstrate her fake mail-in paper ballots just as easily as they are trying to tie it to ‘hacking’ of the vote machines.

Just as easily? Scrutineer was sacked for reporting election officials sitting in a room filling out a pile of Crimton ballots! It’s a mathematical certainty that the voting machines are closer to voter reality than the paper ballots.

…. and now with Fidel Castro dead, the Democrats have no heroes left….. They must face life with Trump with no living Socialist icons left alive. The sound of thumbs being sucked will become deafening.

  24. Entropy says:

The purpose of the recount is not to change the outcome, but to provide a justification and narrative for undermining the legitimacy of Trump’s win for the next four years. The ROP should remember this, both for next time they feel too many dead have voted, and to drive the case for proper ID requirements in elections.

  25. candy says:

Trump’s win was legitimate but the Left media will use any tactic to make it seem illegitimate in the eyes of the public so that his new administration will be seen as erratic and dangerous and therefore illegitimate. Nothing will be too low.

I think that tactic is pretty clear. It is a precarious time for America. Does anyone really see the Left accepting his victory?

  26. Robbo says:

Hillary and her weeping lot not accepting the election verdict? Surely not.

  27. Zatara says:

If that’s all they have this whole supposed recount effort obviously has another purpose.

And Mr Trump hits it out of the park, as usual:

“This recount is just a way for Jill Stein, who received less than one percent of the vote overall and wasn’t even on the ballot in many states, to fill her coffers with money, most of which she will never even spend on this ridiculous recount,”

  28. MD says:

The current count is 306 to 232, Michigan having been declared for Trump the other day.

There are 46 electoral collage votes in the three states in which the Left are talking of a challenge – Wisconsin, Pennsylania and Michigan (10, 20 and 16 votes respectively):

All three states would have to go to Clinton for her to have the necessary 270 votes.

What is really amusing is that Stein, the ‘Greens’ candidate, raised more money for the recount than she did for her election campaign.

This demonstrates two things: how hateful the Left are; and that the Left’s politics is defined by what they are opposed to rather than what they support or believe in.

Take the Left’s adulation of Castro. The Left adore Castro because they hate America (or the concept of a free, capitalist America). They love Chavez and hate Israel for the same reason.

Consider, also, the reason for the Left’s embracing of ‘renewable’ energy. They don’t give a damn that forests are now being cut down and burnt as a ‘renewable’ fuel or that birds are being chopped up by turbines or incinerated in mid-flight by solar concentrators. All they care about is shutting down the fossil fuel industry. Why? Again, it goes back to the rise of the anti-Americanism Left in the 1960s and 1970s. At the time, the US was by far the dominant economic, cultural and military power in the world and the giant US oil and mining companies were the ultimate symbols of America’s economic colonisation of the world, which is why they have been targeted by the Left ever since. Just look at the current attempts to persecute Exxon. Not Shell, not BP, not Total, not Nippon, just Exxon, the largest oil and gas company in the world – and it is US based.

Last year I was searching through some US trademarks and came across this one about leftists suffering from a mental disorder. How true it is.

  32. Monkey's Uncle says:

But for the Greens Mrs Clinton would have won the state.

That assumes the vast majority of Stein’s voters would have gone to Clinton. Many of them would have not voted at all. Taking Stein off the ballot would have likely added a few thousand more votes to Clinton’s total, but not enough to flip the state.

  33. Monkey's Uncle says:

“The New York article includes just one example, a finding that Clinton did worse in counties in Wisconsin that used electronic voting machines instead of paper ballots”

At Five-Thirty Eight, they seem to conclude that the differences are not statistically significant once you take into account other demographic variables. Also, in Iowa and Minnesota (which are similar states to Wisconsin and use paper ballots) Trump did better relative to the usual Republican vote in presidential elections. So the circumstantial evidence looks weak on that count.

Statement From President-Elect Donald J. Trump on the Ridiculous Green Party Recount Request

    NOVEMBER 26, 2016 • MAKING NEWS
    For Immediate Release

    November 26, 2016

    Media Contact: [email protected]

“The people have spoken and the election is over, and as Hillary Clinton herself said on election night, in addition to her conceding by congratulating me, ‘We must accept this result and then look to the future.’

“It is important to point out that with the help of millions of voters across the country, we won 306 electoral votes on Election Day – the most of any Republican since 1988 – and we carried nine of 13 battleground states, 30 of 50 states, and more than 2,600 counties nationwide – the most since President Ronald Reagan in 1984.

“This recount is just a way for Jill Stein, who received less than one percent of the vote overall and wasn’t even on the ballot in many states, to fill her coffers with money, most of which she will never even spend on this ridiculous recount. All three states were won by large numbers of voters, especially Pennsylvania, which was won by more than 70,000 votes.

“This is a scam by the Green Party for an election that has already been conceded, and the results of this election should be respected instead of being challenged and abused, which is exactly what Jill Stein is doing.”

  37. Andrew says:

Anyone still taking bets on Crimton 2016? I wouldn’t mind a punt on them finding 100,000 votes or sufficient electoral college suddenly dying to flip the result.

  38. Fisky says:

The Donald has called it –

US President-elect Donald Trump has called a request for a recount of votes in Wisconsin a ‘scam’ by the Green Party.

Wisconsin’s election board on Friday approved the recount requested by Green Party candidate Jill Stein. She has said she wants to guarantee the integrity of the US voting system since computer hacking had marked the November 8 election.

‘This is a scam by the Green Party for an election that has already been conceded, and the results of this election should be respected instead of being challenged and abused, which is exactly what (Green Party leader) Jill Stein is doing,’ Trump said in a statement about the recount on Saturday.

‘This recount is just a way for Jill Stein, who received less than one per cent of the vote overall and wasn’t even on the ballot in many states, to fill her coffers with money, most of which she will never even spend on this ridiculous recount,’ Trump said.

No one can out-think this guy. Don’t even try it!

  40. Squirrel says:

“But for the Greens Mrs Clinton would have won the state.”

Poetic, perhaps – but for Ross Perot, Hillary may never have been First Lady.

  41. gbees says:

Why no recount for states Clinton won with a far less majority than the ones won by Trump being recounted? Rhetorical question of course!

  42. Elizabeth (Lizzie) B. says:

Surely there has to be a very good reason for a recount? It seems the difference in the ‘machine voting’ areas has no statistical significance when other demographic factors are controlled for. Or maybe Trump voters in those areas are simply less phased by technology?

Are they actually accusing vote tampering with solid evidence of it? If not, then what is the case?

  43. Elizabeth (Lizzie) B. says:

If a recount is required on such slim evidence in Wisconsin then ALL votes everywhere are due for a recount. Who is the electoral official, committee etc, who makes the decision on this? They should know what a can of worms they are opening. Where. Is. The. Real. Evidence?

  44. john constantine says:

Their abc radio national handed their bully pulpit to an american lesbian christian singer of colour this morning.

She described how she and all her friends wept in inconsolable anguish upon hearing of the Trumpening, and how she was going to cancel her Australian tour to remain in America and work against Trump alongside all her friends.

“We can never accept hate and allow it to win” was the message from the billion dollar bully pulpit.

  45. Nerblnob says:

MD, I think you’re right about the left’s mania about Exxon, but I think Aramco is still the largest oil co.

Greenies don’t like to mention NOCs though, because there’s a whole soft left faction who would keep oil but nationalise IOCs.

The other thing about Exxon is that they haven’t accommodated greens in the way BP and Shell have.

To be honest, Exxon can be a bit arrogant for service companies to deal with. Their attitude is “we hire the best and brightest. Our engineers and scientists are far better than yours. Who are you to tell us anything?”

The most aggravating thing is that mostly they are right.

Anyway, let the recount go on. I can’t think of a better way for the left to annoy the public even more and further marginalise themselves.
