If orangutangs can work it out why can’t socialists?

You know, that incentives are necessary to promote productive activity and that an economy must encourage the supply-side of the economy if output is to grow. The article is about how Orangutans make complex economic decisions. As they conclude:

“Optimality models suggest that orangutans should flexibly adapt their foraging decisions depending on the availability of high nutritional food sources, such as fruits,” said Josep Call, researcher at the University of St. Andrews. “Our study shows that orangutans can simultaneously consider multi-dimensional task components in order to maximize their gains and it is very likely that we haven’t even reached the full extent of their information processing capabilities.”

Meanwhile Alexandria O-C and her Green New Deal think this is a worthwhile idea: if you are “unwilling to work” they will still pay you an income.

Interestingly this particular proposal is unanimously rejected by the students in this video, once they are told what’s in the GND.

The students interviewed are big on buzz-word ideologies they know virtually nothing about, but still with a few elements of common sense if more is explained. There is hope for us after all, slim as it may be. Perhaps these kids are smarter than the average orangutang, but they would be a rare breed on the left.

Oddly when a socialist restaurant asks customers to pay what they can they tend not to pay much.

Panera Bread’s Socialist ‘Pay What You Want’ Experiment Fails Miserably (12 Feb)

Panera Bread has shuttered the last of its ideologically driven “pay what you want” restaurants. The socialist-tinged ventures were called “Panera Cares” and the higher-ups have finally figured out that “caring” is not synonymous with “viable business model.” On February 15, the final Panera Cares, located in Boston, will close.

    It’s not a new finding.

10 For even when we were with you, we gave you this rule: “The one who is unwilling to work shall not eat.”

11 We hear that some among you are idle and disruptive. They are not busy; they are busybodies. 12 Such people we command and urge in the Lord Jesus Christ to settle down and earn the food they eat.

Why work when you can live comfortably on welfare and be on Facebook all day?

Has someone informed PETA (Peoples Eating Tasty Animals) that JC’s beloved Orang-Utans aren’t of the socialist persuasion?

  3. Sadly, for most of them, it’s still a case of Orange Man bad.

Didn’t Ken Henry identify as a Wombat ?

I once saw a motorcyclist ride up along the table-drain side of a road gaining an advantage on a long que of stationery cars stopped because of roadworks and the stupid bastard ran straight as a dye into a *Caution Wombats Crossing* sign. The biker got distracted when the college degreed *stop – go* message twister rotated from stop to slow and the cars started to move then, bang, straight into the wombat sign. And no, I didn’t stop to help because I thought the stupid idiot already had enough troubles.

Steve haven’t you admitted you were a leftist in your 20s?

Like dont get me wrong they are all kinds of stupid but weren’t most of us once upon a time? Not sure picking on youngsters and comparing them to chimps is the way to rally people to the cause of liberty.

  6. Perhaps these kids are smarter than the average orangutang

What’s smart got to do with it?
let’s substitute the word capable for smart.
O’tangs are capable of carrying their own weight and a little more when they raise their young.
Millennials don’t carry their own weight and many are not likely to for decades, if ever.

Give me an orange man any day.

  7. Oh come on

If orangutangs can work it out why can’t socialists?

To ask the question is to answer it.

You grossly underestimate the intelligence of the orang utan. We already know socialists are as thick as pig shit.

Lefties are the faeces throwing apes – Antifa et al.

Figure what out? Supply side economics? Is that what you think the issue with socialism is?
Socialism doesn’t work because it puts the collective above the individual.
Most conservatives don’t disagree with putting the collective above the individual, though.

So I wouldn’t worry about orangutangs.

Is it time now to thank all those heroic buffalo hunters who stopped 30-60 million buffalo from farting?

If only they eliminated cow farts 8000 years ago …

Animal fat on ancient pottery reveals a nearly catastrophic period of human prehistory

A bit more than 8000 years ago, the world suddenly cooled, leading to much drier summers for much of the Northern Hemisphere.

If only they eliminated cow farts earlier than what we first 97% thunk …

2013: “However, the new research, which is published in Nature Communications, reveals morphological and genetic evidence for management of cattle in north-eastern China around 10,000 years ago, around the same time the first domestication of taurine cattle took place in the Near East.

This indicates that humans may have started domesticating cows in more regions around the world than was previously believed.”

And to think these airheads aspire to jobs one day. Lucky employers!

So I wouldn’t worry about orangutangs.

I think he’s pointing out that orang-utans are more knowledgable than Socialists when it comes to supply-side economics … something that even you could agree with.

And what I’m saying is that he is on the same side as socialists, on a far more fundamental level than economics. So he’s not in a position to call anyone stupid.

It’s also why his economics will always bend as required. Hence his support for trade and immigration regulations, supporting the assault on the property rights and free speech of tech companies, etc.

As stupid as socialists are, conservatives and many libertarians are much stupider.

These kids are not leftist airheads. They are normal kids who when presented with a proposition can analyse it and decide for themselves whether it would work or not.

The main problem is the proposition that they all ACCEPT WITHOUT QUESTION.
This the proposition that the world is currently under severe threat of a major climatic catastrophe due to anthropogenic global warming due to the activities of an industrial civilization dependent on, and resulting in, the production of ‘excess’ carbon dioxide in the atmosphere.

They have no idea that there is considerable scientific doubt about the validity of this proposition. The media they read constantly reinforces that this proposition is valid and is backed by sound evidence. Their schools and universities allow no opposition to develop and no debate to occur on the validity of this proposition. The movies and TV shows they watch all commit to the validity of this proposition. Major corporations have all jumped on the bandwagon in order to gain kudos within it.

Thus, these young students all believe in the proposition that their way of life must undergo some significant changes. These include spreading income more widely in the name of ‘equality’, attaining something called ‘diversity’, and critiquing the existence and profits of large national and international corporations. The only way they have been offered to tackle these perceived issues is via socialism, and socialism has not been historically examined in their school systems and universities.

Climatic catastrophizing and socialist dreaming needs to meet some hard-nosed opposition.
Or we are lost for more than a few generations.

Socialism is riding in on the back of climate catastrophizing.

  16. Dr Fred Lenin

Surely you are not suggesting socialist drongos are as intelligent as orangoutans ? Everybody kniws that couldnt be right,I am speaking of committed socialists not the ambitious creeps who claim it for personal gain.like clintons shorten etc .

  17. Kneel

“And what I’m saying is that he is on the same side as socialists,”

Well, let’s see if you can live up to your own requirements then.

As far as I can see, anyone who shares a view with the left- no matter how trivial – is a leftist.
We know this because Peter has told us so, more than once.
We also know that he refuses to budge on this matter – from experience, clearly shown here at the cat.
We also know that he demands we accept his word on this and will not entertain arguments on the matter – again, the evidence is right here on the cat.

That sounds very authoritarian to me – that we MUST accept the pronouncements of the “guru”, or be disowned. Hard to see how that aligns with a libertarian view, innit?
Authority is an oft used excuse of the left as to why we should “obey”, with failure to comply resulting in excommunication – the exact same demands and consequences as Peter’s.
    Oh my.
Therefore, clearly and logically, and based on his own standards as applied to others here at the cat, Peter is a leftist.

    Welcome to dark side, Pete!

On the plus side, Peter is no longer on his own as the self-professed only right-wing person on the blog – now we know that by his own standards, he is a leftist, and since he has already stated everyone else here is a leftist, there are clearly no right-wingers remaining!

On the down side, it seems that since no-one here is right-wing, we’ll have to come up with a new tag-line for the blog, but I feel confident that this hurdle is easily surmounted – phew!
