Support Peter Ridd, free speech and genuine science

A conversation with Peter Ridd.

In May 2018, after an academic career of more than 30 years, Peter had his employment terminated as a professor of physics at James Cook University in Townsville, Australia. Peter had spoken against the accepted orthodoxy that climate change was ‘killing’ the Great Barrier Reef.

I was actually reading Professor Ridd’s chapter in Climate Change: The Facts 2017 over breakfast this morning. I’ve had the book for some time but not gotten around to reading much of it. Ridd highlights the selectivity of research selected for publication, which I found interesting.

Digressing just slightly, I believe that so-called ‘activists’ (wreckers, saboteurs, economic insurgents) are the new criminal class, for there is certainly a great deal to be gained (for them) from their damaging behaviours. The rest of us pay the costs.

I’ve never been sure whether membership of the IPA is for me, so while looking through their website, I’ve stumbled across the Young IPA Podcast, and I’m presently listening to a bit of good-natured prattle between the hosts during the most recent episode. I’ll have to listen longer to come to a judgement, but good on the IPA for presenting a product like this.

Wouldn’t refusing to use any coal related products be a better outcome for the environment?

Muddy, re the new criminal class, sometimes I tag my climate posts Terrorism as well as Global Warming Policy.
Re mixed feelings about the IPA, all the groups have a portfolio of concerns that depends on a mix of ideology, who is in charge at the time, funding, and priorities they assign to the array of issues that they might take up. The IPA has taken up western civilization and youth, both possibly encouraged by Ron Manners at Mannkal in the west where they stumbled onto the youth program that has sent hundreds of students to the East Coast for events and to foreign parts to get experience in think tanks.

I think a few Cats donated to his GoFundMe campaign last year and will watch this with great interest – I certainly will. Fingers crossed justice is done, that he is totally vindicated, and that those responsible for this traversty in the upper echelons of the University are humiliated. Unfortunately, any $ restitution will not come out of their miserable pockets.

Terms such as “godfather” “mafia” and “cosa nostra” spring to mind when discussing the skullduggery of the rent-seekers, along with images from the film, and the book by Mario Puzo, don’t they?

  8. Muddy says:

    John A,
I think we have to be selective about the choice of imagery, otherwise our claims will be easily dismissed as hyperbole or conspiracy theory. We need to think three or four steps ahead to what the response will be and how we in turn respond to that. We should respond, rather than react, and set and maintain the initiative. I am quite serious when I identify them as a new criminal class (using lawfare and standover tactics, for example), and I believe that argument can be made.
I know what you mean though.
