Twenty seconds is actually quite a long hug, Stimpy. Uncomfortably long.

Sometimes clients mistake me for a huggable type, and I’ve had to perfect the ‘accidental’ elbow in the throat. You just have to swivel with the correct foot. They make funny noises when the elbow meets the throat.

  2. feelthebern

I did tip, but always reminded the manager, if in earshot, that he/she needed to pay his/her workers a decent wage so that tipping wasn’t necessary. I usually got blank looks.

Just in case numbers thinks this will be forgotten quickly, here it is to remind everyone on page #2 of the Monday forum.

Prime Minister Scott Morrison hints he will fast-track tax cuts for millions of Australian workers – saving some more than $7,000 a year

    And the vote buying/bribing begins/continues(?).

  4. Tom

    I think you’re misunderstanding Numbers.
I don’t think he minds paying a $2 tip, he just wants everybody else in earshot to know about it.

Like all two-bit bums overseas who give Australians a bad name.

  5. JC

Misfit, you idiot tax cuts are not vote buying. It’s returning money to the actual owners.

It is wrongthink to act as if their signed paris convention on the economic genocide of western industrial civilisation isn’t sacred.

They signed it, you live it or be purged.

Like all two-bit bums overseas who give Australians a bad name.

My cousin came back from the US last week whining about the tipping. I told that’s the custom there and if he didn’t like it, he shouldn’t go again. Frankly, he’s an embarrassment to me in other ways too.

feelthebern: thanks, Tiabbi is on the reading list for later tonight. Ms Summers and Young Chip are both very upset about the Mueller report. Her little boy is a nob, and a nob in PEN as well.

Wouldn’t it be fun if a bunch of non-lefties piled on and joined PEN en mass — the reverse of what does with every organisation it colonises?

My ex-sister-in-law took up waitressing when her marriage broke down. She made minimal pay but up to $250 a night in tips. Ask her if she wants the minimum wage and she’ll stick her thumb in your soup.

  12. Bruce in WA

Have a friend who’s a (multi) millionaire who won’t go to the USA because he refuses to tip. Won’t tip in Australia, either, or even round the bill up.

Read someone who wrote that her daughter worked in NYC in a restaurant and could earn up to $300USD on a good weekend night (Friday or Saturday). She didn’t mind tipping at all.

Love your grasp of the language, John Constantine.
    Might I suggest Rouge Green?

Numbers, I think what the point of the post was that the BOM got it wrong with the info staring them in the face, but they tell us they KNOW what will happen in 20 years!
They KNOW the temperature will be .78432 degrees hotter, with a margin of error of .5 degrees.
They KNOW Jack Schitt! They read off what their computer is guessing.
All they’re doing is trolling for money. Like the freakin ABC.
I’ve been through 20 or so Cyclones. Most of them before the BOM got all excited about them. Some with the school teacher looking out the widow, and saying, “Jeez, it’s a bit windy. You can all jump on yer bikes, head off home and take the rest of the day off! Be back tomorrow!”

Errr, Struth, what’s your opinion of Jupes? 🙂

But JC, they really aren’t ” returning money”.
They’re only saying (and likely lying) that thet’re going to “take” less!

Twenty seconds is actually quite a long hug, Stimpy. Uncomfortably long.

Muddy, you don’t just walk up to strangers on the street and hug them for 20 seconds, even if it is Science.

Former CIA Director, Brennan is really kind of fucked.

  25. struth

    Oh why don’t we?

    Lets.

And we can talk about Sisi attending a Christmas Mass at the Coptic Cathedral in Cairo after an islamic attack there (some months later, but far braver, all the same) and any other world leader attending any mosque/church/temple/synagogue after a terror attack

It had nothing to do with feelz but how world leaders are supposed to respond after a national tragedy, doesn’t matter if it a man made or natural disaster or who the victims are

I was pointing out your hypocrisy.
Somehow me believing we are the majority is “feelz” to you.
After your girlish and idiotic rejoice of the superficial,– submission to males by horse features when she put a tea towel on her head, I thought that was a bit rich.

You didn’t go to town about Gerard Henderson saying Arden handled the entire thing very well which was far far further than anyone here went as far in relation to Arden’s OOT response.

He’s a dickhead who we also had a go at for using the old “right wing is white wing” bullshit, and I had a crack at that.
May I remind you though, he isn’t the PM of New Zealand and your insistence that his crime is just as bad, shows us quite clearly, yet again, your civilizational ignorance.

only a problem if women milady suggest being appropriately dressed when visiting a house of worship, innit?

I am appalled at our western women showing their subservience to the Men of Islam, as you, if you had a brain in yer head, should be too.
Seems I’m more for western women’s equality than you are.
Especially when they happen to be a PM.
It’s not Christian headwear and it is specifically designed for women by misogynistic men.
“Going into a place of worship” is a dickhead christian view from you because Moslem women have to wear it outside the place of worship as well.
You keep projecting chistianity on to it.

But here’s the truth Notafan, when you blurted out you approval of her wearing the head scarf you hadn’t even thought of the consequences.
    Which is my entire point.

Every time you rant about women people are reminded it is not about the issue, but the side.

Boo fucking hoo if I don’t let silly bints run off at the mouth, without reminding them that with equality comes responsibility.
Due to this very characteristic you show here, and the feminisation of the west , we are going down hill.
That’s where all of a sudden you girls have got the power to change things by just yapping non stop about shit you haven’t even thought through yet.
And as we see, even right wing women do it, as the point I was making.
If you were honest your comment regarding how it’s a good look and appropriate for her to wear the tea towel would have not been made if you contemplated about what now has come to pass,

Are you suggesting I don’t have a go at men here?

Not to mention digging up ancient history rather than addressing the issue was supposed to be a female tactic

It was only two days ago.
At least with you I’m certain “ancient” history won’t be necessary.

    hysterical

    You certainly are.

New Zealand shooting: Jacinda Ardern announces royal commission into attack

“It is important that no stone is left unturned to get to the bottom of how this act of terrorism occurred and what, if any, opportunities we had to stop it,” Ardern told reporters at Parliament House in Wellington on Monday.

They have the killer banged up, some sort of manifesto, know where the guns and ammo came from, who was killed/injured – what additional facts that require the coercive powers of a Royal Commission? Are the intelligence services and police withholding embarrassing cockup evidence?

Or is Jacinda extending her time in the Sun as the World’s Most Woke Politician?

I hear that Trump is sending a group of trade negotiators to China to insist they buy West Virginia coal of they want better trade terms with the US. This will hurt significantly our coal exports to China.

    Re interest rates.
What I wanna know is why, when I owed money on my house, my machinery, and my business loan, interest rates were 15, 16, 18 fkn percent.
My bank manager said, “We’re raising the rate on your loan.”
    “Why?”
“Because we think you’re finding it hard to make the payments.”
“What! How the fuck does that make it easier?”
    (But I digress.)
Now, when I am in excess at the bank, by about $10.46, I am paid interest at 2 percent!
If everyone wants interest on their deposits raised, just toss me a few shekels, and I’ll set up a loan at the Bank. Interest will be at 15% before the days out.

Commenters at the Australian wondered when the ABC Collective would go after Ita.

They just couldn’t hold it in. Even for their class surely this is a bit premature, and dangerous for the cabal. No doubt they are telling themselves this is proof of how even handed they are.

So if they have decided that going after their new boss means using ABC resources to trawl her words and thoughts over her life maybe Australians should return the favour. Why is the Australian War Memorial shop selling the following? Will the new renovations produce a ‘frontier wars’ exhibit?

Port Phillip’s free settlers often said that they were civilising a wilderness. The truth was that the occupied country already had people, laws, politics, and economies. What did ‘civilisation’ mean to the free settlers? And what was the relationship between civilising and violence?

The Civilisation of Port Phillip tracks the violent history of the first years of British settlement in the Port Phillip District, now the state of Victoria. It illuminates the underlying free-settler rhetoric that advocated and abetted violence on the frontier. For the first time, we hear the settlers tell us in their own words what the civilisation of Port Phillip really involved.

Frontier violence in Port Phillip involved Aboriginal peoples, convicts, free settlers and colonial officials. This history shows how the lives of these different people interconnected in early Port Phillip, in unlikely friendships, dire misunderstandings, and fatal clashes. It paints a vivid picture of the period drawn from archival records, a thorough re-reading of older histories, and new ideas in the scholarship of violence.

As well as sheep and firearms, free settlers brought Enlightenment ideas about civilisation to Port Phillip. When these European ideas were coupled with Australian frontier experience, they manifested in an exterminatory attitude towards people deemed undesirable in the coming colony. The Civilisation of Port Phillip shows how free-settler rhetoric, law, and systems of classification reinforced and sought to justify the violence of the frontier.

Australia singled out for ‘resistance’ to move from coal at World Economic Forum
    Jack Houghton, The Daily Telegraph
    Subscriber only

Foreign economists for one the world’s largest think-tanks have turned to activism by publicly shaming Australia for not “abandoning coal”.

The World Economic Forum released its energy transition index on Monday which singled out Australia for its “resistance” to moving away from coal while begrudgingly admitting radical climate policies had created “social unrest” in countries like Paris.

The group, which has “Industry Affiliations” with several renewable energy companies, ranked Australia 43rd on its energy transition index behind the likes of Mexico, Romania and Lithuania.

World Economic Forum head of future energy Roberto Bocca targeted Australia saying it was one of only three large economies to lose marks “primarily due to their low scores on environmental sustainability”.

William Connolly, the Melbourne teenager best known as “egg boy”, has spoken out for the first time since his egging of Senator Fraser Anning.

Mr Connolly, who egged the Queensland Senator in the wake of his comments blaming Muslim immigration for the Christchurch terror attack which killed 50 people, said the incident has been blown out of proportion, while appearing on Channel 10’s The Project this evening.

The 17-year-old Melbourne teenager told host Hamish Macdonald he realises it was not the “right thing to do”, but he was not expecting Mr Anning, who threw two punches at the teen, to react to being egged.

“I didn’t expect him to react, I thought I was just going to walk out there. I didn’t think this was going to blow up,” Mr Connolly told Macdonald.

From the Oz. Fraser Anning is to be commended on his restraint.

A teenage prison inmate who carved an Islamic State slogan into the forehead of a fellow prisoner
while in a NSW jail later threatened to turn the state’s prisons “into slaughter houses” after claiming to have turned his victim “into an Islamic State sketch pad”.

Bourhan Hraichie also threatened to kill NSW Corrective Services Commissioner Peter Severin in public by cutting off his head.

On April 7, 2016, Hraichie was made to share a cell with Michael Sean O’Keefe. After learning O’Keefe was a former soldier in the Australian army, Hraichie used a razor blade to carve “e4e”, short for the Islamic State mantra “an eye for an eye”, into O’Keefe’s forehead.

Hraichie claimed his cellmate had made disrespectful comments about Islam, later telling police his intention was to kill O’Keefe.

After he was transferred to Goulburn on April 9, he wrote the letter to Mr Severin in which he threatened to kill the prison chief if his conditions in custody weren’t improved.

“I turned your Army [sic] soldier into an Islamic State sketch pad,” part of the letter said.

During his September 2016 police interview, Hraichie also praised the schoolboy killer of NSW Police accountant Curtis Cheng as a “little lion” for the “fear he put into the hearts of Australia”.

Notice the language. It wasn’t an assault, apparently (look up the definition of assault in your home state), just a frivolous ‘egging.’

Ditto regarding both your statements, Zulu.
Regardless of the age of the assailant (which is relevant only if charges are laid and the issue reaches a court of law), the incident constituted a physical assault. Anning, who I know nothing about, and have no opinion of, was struck by an object physically propelled by the assailant’s hand onto the top of his head. That the object propelled onto the victim’s head was an egg, is relevant only in regards to the seriousness of the assault when a charge is laid against the assailant. That Anning was assaulted from behind and could not have immediately assessed his assailant, could be used as mitigation of any claim that Anning responded with inappropriate force.

I don’t recall the Gillard sandwich incident, Bern, but I agree. There is, however, a very small difference, though it probably doesn’t amount to much. Despite it being an egg, an object being propelled towards a victim while remaining in a hand will arguably possess more force upon impact. Replace the egg with, say, a shoe, and then compare with a shoe thrown (leaving the hand) at a similar distance. Yes, it’s a bit pedantic, but we need to be pedantic when it comes to the malignant media soft-framing these things.

I assume you are slim, JC. Fat men, especially those with a beer belly, are very unattractive.

  197. JC

Not very dark actually, but I’m okay in rest of that department… not that it matters so much for males.

    Main course … crow.
    Dessert … humble pie.
Oh, and don’t forget to tip.

Oh dear lord … lordy, lordy lord! My ex, who absolutely loves Bette, will be totally devastated. 😞

Your ex was a gay man?

    Hahaha, ah fuck me.

I think monty’s ample girth & gelatinous arms would make him a good cuddler.
    A sweaty cuddler.
But a good cuddler all the same.

No, her ex was Caitlyn Jenner. He went from being a straight man to a straight woman.

The 21st century was supposed to be flying cars, but we got this sort of thing instead.

I don’t overeat and exercise, so presumably I’m fine. However, I’m not a gym rat and wouldn’t resemble an old commenter here – Adonis Rippling – aka Laserjet8600.

World Economic Forum tries shaming Australia for not abandoning coal quickly enough?

If righties really believed the climate change thing, and that we had 10 years to turn it around, we’d have already started bombing coal power stations in India and China, right?

I mean, if the planet was truly facing an existential crisis that could be averted by nuking one of the shithole countries, then we’d just do that, right?

  215. Snoopy

The Federal Agriculture Minister and cattle industry leaders say police need greater powers to stop animal rights activists from trespassing on farms, after more than 100 activists stormed a feedlot in Southern Queensland over the weekend.

The activists arrived en masse at the Lemontree Feedlot near Millmerran, west of Toowoomba on Saturday, and walked onto the land despite the property owner’s objections, taking photos and drone vision of cattle.

Inspector Graeme Paine from Dalby police said officers attending saw no need to make arrests.

“The actions of the protesters at the time didn’t warrant physical arrest from the police to address any public safety or any disruption concerns at the time,” Inspector Paine said.

What a weak xunt. Politically cowed.

Jordan Peterson argues that mystical experiences while under the influence of psilocybin proves the supernatural.

If I understand him correctly, I think he believes the fact that drugs can stimulate certain areas to have that effect shows that a a portion of the brain is devoted to spirituality. That this exists (and is activated WITHOUT drugs) suggests that it has some evolutionary advantage, and to his way of thinking, some greater purpose.

There’s a lot of debate about whether the so-called “God spot” exists in the brain, but whereas as some skeptical types would see its existence as proof God doesn’t exist, The Jordan Peterson types seem more inclined to believe that it proves he does.
