Leftard zombie relativism scales new heights:
Of course, this jibberish is penned by a young female, fresh out of her SJW indoctrination at J-school.
Sweetie, Rule 1 of journalism, if you don’t want to be laughed into the WPB, is don’t make shit up — like the words I have bolded.
You read stuff like this and end up thinking it’s not possible. It’s not possible there’s this sort of evil and negligence in the world.
Traveller letters: Airbnb hack could save you hundreds of dollars
CLEARING THE AIR
As Daniel Nolan mentioned (Traveller letters, March 23), rather than going to airbnb.com.au always search for the name of the Airbnb property elsewhere to avoid paying the hefty fee it charges. Airbnb does not even scale down its commission.
If you are staying in an expensive property, say $5000 over a week or so, you are paying about $900 to Airbnb. I think it’s disgusting it takes so much. No other site, such as homeaway or booking.com, charges as much as it does.
Also try searching through the photos for a direct contact number, too – generally means the owner is happy to deal direct.
New …
This is real: latest SJW thing is that dogs are white supremacists.
dogs are white supremacists.
No, they’re conservatives: they like everything to remain as it was yesterday and start barking if it changes.
So-called “trolls” want everything to be about them and to disrupt intelligent discussion.
Numbers comes here every day and wins; he beats the living shit out of all of you.

A Massacre of Christians
Terror bombings kill hundreds on Easter Sunday in Sri Lanka.
By The WSJ Editorial Board
The Easter Sunday slaughter of Christians in Sri Lanka is a jolting reminder that killers motivated by religious animus continue to be a threat to innocents around the world. Large-scale terror attacks outside the Middle East have been fewer in recent months, but that is due more to the West’s efforts at pre-emption than to any lack of murderous intent.
The explosions hit three churches and hotels known for foreign visitors in or near the capital of Colombo. At this writing at least 207 had been killed and several hundred injured. At least 27 foreigners were among the dead, including “several” Americans, according to Secretary of State Mike Pompeo.
World leaders are denouncing the attack on “humanity,” but make no mistake: This was an attack on Christians. The killers didn’t pick any random Sunday. The bombs went off at places of worship during services on the holiest day of the Christian calendar. The killers may have taken their bloody cues from the attack on Coptic Christians in Egypt on Palm Sunday in 2017. Police were on watch for a reason outside the church we attended this Easter Sunday morning in New York City, just as they’re often outside synagogues after a terrorist event.
Sri Lankan authorities have arrested several people in the attacks but hadn’t identified them by Sunday evening. Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe said information about a possible attack had been circulating but hadn’t reached the cabinet. Sri Lanka has a terrible history with terrorism from its civil war, but less so in recent years. Christians (7.4%) and Muslims (10%) are minorities in the majority Buddhist nation.
There is a natural tendency toward complacency in human affairs after a period without a major terror attack, until we get a reminder like Sunday’s in Sri Lanka of the costs of inattention. The threat will be with us for many decades and demands constant watch.
Indigenous affairs commentators have questioned why the fire at Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris has sparked nationwide grief, but the potential destruction of sacred trees on home soil remains largely ignored.
Just a wild guess…most Australians don’t believe in “sacred trees”?
..
Rubbish.

Because that’s a typically stupid African-American first name.
His continued success in getting teaching jobs despite being a known molester also suggests that he was an untouchable creature of affirmative action.

COMPARE DI NATALE’S SRI LANKA TWEET WITH HIS CHRISTCHURCH ONE

Compare the tweet that Greens leader Richard Di Natale sent in response to the bombings today of Christian churches in Sri Lanka with the one he sent after the slaughter at a Christchurch mosque. The missing word becomes even more glaringly obvious.
Today:
Deeply saddened by the attacks in Sri Lanka and the targeting of people gathering in peace.
The @greens grieve in solidarity with the people of Sri Lanka and Sri Lankan members of the Australian community for those who have lost their lives and been injured.

Last month:
The news unfolding in Christchurch is tragic and deeply saddening.
Our thoughts are with all of those affected.
We stand with the Muslim community, here and around the world.

Muslim targets are Muslims. Christian targets are “people”.
Why?
Silly question. I may try to answer that on the next Bolt Report on Sky.

We learn this morning from Andrew Bolt that corrupt Victoria Police led by its perjurer commissioner illegally leaked a (false) version of a bugged phone call between George Pell and a friend (a senior priest who was also a key, exonerating witness) to Fairfax. They were caught out because the dumb broad at Fairfax reported the conversation between a ‘tearful’ Pell (apologising to the witness) occurred at a dinner on the night prior to the day of the verdict. In fact, the priest couldn’t make that dinner and wasn’t there. He had spoken to the cardinal in a phone call that night, however.
This is just astonishing and infuriating.
Pell doesn’t need to be innocent for these investigative tactics to be a scandal.

Numbers is just a very poor troll.
No, he’s really not.
He’s been beating the shit out of all of you for years.
Did you mean boring, driving us to tears with his inanities?
Elle, thank you for your apology. I have just spotted it. Accepted, of course. I am no sort of hater.
My daughter used to have physical things she called ‘her feelings’ when she was about eleven, which she would bleat about if they were ‘hurt’. When necessary, we would kiss them better, but would not in general encourage ‘offense taking’ over trivia. Toughen those feelings up, we would say, and suggest sometimes how to respond to schoolyard hurters of feelings, or familial battles with us or siblings.
I suspect when we grow up, our ‘feelings’ turn into more complex things like concern about our ‘reputation’, how others see us in the wider adult world in which we have to live, and a dislike of insults with unwarranted implications, or of constant niggling attacks which arouse the flight or fight response. ‘Feelings’ in adult life thus can shade into legal concepts such as slander and defamation.
A bit of that sort of concern may explain some of my reaction as well. That, plus the internet also tends to ‘flame’ with words, lacking non-verbals as it does. But as I’ve said before somewhere, hey, it’s just an anonymous blog. But not letting people get away with too much on it is still important. I hit back. 🙂

Andrew Bolt: Did police poison the public against Cardinal George Pell?
Andrew Bolt, Herald Sun
Did police poison the public against Cardinal George Pell — including by leaking to the media details of a private phone call?
Monsignor Charles Portelli was amazed last February to read on The New Daily website a story by Lucie Morris-Marr, who’d earlier broken the story that police were investigating Pell over alleged sexual abuse.
This time, Morris-Marr had a scoop that to some readers may have implied Pell had a guilty conscience.
She wrote that Pell tearily apologised to Portelli on the day a jury declared the cardinal guilty of sexually assaulting two choirboys in the sacristy right after Mass.
Portelli had given evidence in Pell’s trial that as Master of Ceremonies, he accompanied Pell everywhere at Mass until he left the cathedral, so these assaults could not have occurred.
That was not the only evidence that left many legal experts astonished by the jury verdict.
The jury somehow believed Pell had assaulted the two teenagers in a normally busy room with the door open, and while dressed from neck to feet in heavy and belted cassock-like clothing. What’s more, one of the boys, now dead, told his mother he’d never been abused.
Now Portelli read this on The New Daily: “A tearful Cardinal George Pell was comforted by a key witness in his child abuse trial on the night following his shock guilty verdict …
“A source told The New Daily the cardinal had dinner at a friend’s house in Melbourne with Monsignor Charles Portelli … ‘Pell got quite emotional … and was actually apologising to Portelli for getting him into the mess of the court case and effectively being dismissed as a liar,’ the source said.”
Portelli was surprised because he never made it to that dinner.
What’s more, the conversation occurred three weeks earlier, and in a private phone call: “The cardinal rang me on his mobile and he rang my mobile.”
Pell was not “tearful”, and had no guilty conscience, says Portelli, who firmly believes in Pell’s innocence.
“He apologised to me because the prosecution tried to do to me what they had done to the witness before me. They had tried to bamboozle him.”
Portelli told The New Daily its story was false. The publication said it stood by the story, yet pulled it from the website.
But how did a private phone discussion find its way into a report by a Pell critic who’d never spoken to Pell or Portelli?
One obvious possibility is that Pell’s phone was bugged.
Neither Portelli nor I believe that could have been done by Morris-Marr, so I asked Victoria Police: Was it you?
If so, should police be leaking details of private calls to the media, directly or indirectly?
A police spokesman responded: “We do not provide comment on police methodology. This information has been passed on to the Victoria Police Professional Standards Command for further assessment.”
Morris-Marr, for her part, denies that her source was a police officer, and says suggestions that Pell’s phone was bugged were “rather ridiculous”.
They are? Not to Portelli.
This goes to the wider issue of how Pell could be convicted “beyond reasonable doubt” of such an inherently implausible crime.
The suspicion must be that the jury, like many Australians, had its opinion of Pell poisoned by decades of venomous media attacks, including false claims that he abused other children, offered hush money to a victim of p#edophile priest Gerald Ridsdale, and sheltered other p#edophiles.
Sadly, Victoria Police helped to destroy his reputation. Graham Ashton, now chief commissioner, falsely told a parliamentary inquiry that the Melbourne Catholic diocese under Pell had not referred any victims of p#edophile priests to the police, and falsely claimed that victims compensated under a scheme set up by Pell had to sign confidentiality causes.
Then, with Pell vilified, police set up an inquiry into sexual abuse by him without having had a single complaint. It instead advertised for accusers, and after years of publicity about the compensation the church was paying.
As Britain found with the scandals at Bryn Eastyn, St Williams and Greystone Heath, there is no surer way to suggest false memories and get innocent men jailed.
Sure enough, many Pell accusers did come forward, only to have their stories collapse in court — all except this one.
So how did Pell’s private phone call become public gossip? Until there’s an innocent explanation, we must wonder if this is more evidence that Pell has powerful enemies determined to believe the worst of him, and to make others do so, too.
Areff, I meant to say how amused I was by that piece you linked on ‘the difference between men and women’. I was at the time having one of those little huffs people have when married, because he didn’t listen to something emotionally important that I said, and he thought I was going on about something he’d always regarded as not on his register of interest. Best to just sit through it till she gets over it, is Hairy’s usual response at such times, settling into some sport on TV. Why can’t he see what I mean and why my feelings are hurt? I continue to think. Why doesn’t he say something? It’s the silence that’s deafening.
So I text a girlfriend about how I am feeling down, and she responds saying comfortingly that she doesn’t know how I cope etc etc. I feel better and Hairy gets hungry and says what’s for lunch? So together we make some eggs (using Motelier’s wonderful egg-poacher) and we watch Outsiders, and we start to chat about that, and suddenly we are friends again, and he does understand me, I know from his smile and the way his eyes crinkle when he smiles lovingly at me ‘cos we share so much, and I do love him so much, and, and, then I read your linked piece, and I realise men really are from Mars, every last one of them. 🙂

IS THIS SHORTEN’S MOST CLUELESS POLICY?
Andrew Bolt: Bill Shorten doesn’t know what his plan will cost the economy — or you
Andrew Bolt, Herald Sun
Is there anything Bill Shorten actually understands about global warming and his dangerous plan to “stop” it?
His ignorance about his hugely expensive plan to cut our global warming gases by 45 per cent by just 2030 is frightening.
Here’s a list of things the Labor leader either doesn’t know or refuses to say.
Shorten doesn’t know what his plan will cost the economy or you.
In fact, he last week repeatedly dodged that basic question, and eventually suggested the answer didn’t matter: “If you don’t believe in the science of climate change, no amount of evidence will ever convince you because, fundamentally, it’s a stupid position not to take action.”
Opposition Leader Bill Shorten’s ignorance about his hugely expensive plan to cut our global warming gases by 45 per cent by just 2030 is frightening.
But unless we know the cost, how can we know whether Shorten’s pain is worth the gain?
Here’s another thing Shorten doesn’t know: there is no climate “emergency” for him to stop.
Last week, he savaged climate sceptics because we allegedly “never look at the cost of extreme weather events”.
Wrong. In fact, Professor Roger Pielke Jr, the world’s most famous expert on damage from extreme weather events, points out that “weather/climate losses have decreased as proportion of global GDP”. We lose proportionately less stuff than ever to weather events.
That’s another thing Shorten doesn’t know. In an interview last year, he disputed a clear fact I put to him: we’ve been getting fewer cyclones, in Australia and the world.
Shorten also falsely believes global warming is drowning Pacific atoll islands: “Paradise is drowning,” he’s declared
In fact, as Professor Paul Kench has shown: 43 per cent of low-lying atoll islands studied have grown, and just 14 per cent have shrunk.
Here’s more that Shorten doesn’t know: the inconvenience he’ll cause with his plan to make us drive millions more electric cars.
When asked how long they took to charge, he said “eight to 10 minutes’. But today’s models take 30 minutes, even with a fast charger.
Nor, critically, does Shorten know that his policy won’t work. As Chief Scientist Alan Finkel admits, even if Shorten banned every car, plane, factory and power station, the effect on the climate would be “virtually nothing”.
Yet Shorten still insists “it’s a stupid position not to take action” — including his action: a fake fix to a fake climate scare at a price he won’t say.
How can you vote for such insanity?
Not “a twist of logic”; a statement of historical fact.
My bathroom scales smiled lovingly at me this morning too.

I think there is a bit of a Malcolm factor about Chloe. The big end of town, privilege, mother the GG. She won’t necessarily play well with the women trying to find the money to pay the electricity and clothe the kids. Scott’s wife and family seem more ordinary, and so does he, especially for aspirationals. Or are we just grasping at straws, hoping against hope that the country won’t be stupid enough to fall for Bill?
No, really, that’s lovely.

“Traditional Hi-Lift Jack vs ARB Jack”
Shorten was nowhere to be seen here in the most marginal of marginals, Corangamite, over Easter. I thought maybe with Bells on he would have donned his wetsuit and headed down to Torquay. Perhaps he was afraid of being questioned about the lack of surf and what he would do to remedy this. Because, of course, if you can control the weather then perfect waves are a given.

We truly need an obstructionist Senate.
Yep, but not to keep other pollies honest, we need an obstructionist senate to keep the bureaucratic bints in line! FMD! Women!
What the Mueller Probe Really Means
The real fireworks will only begin now as Trump seeks to investigate the investigators.
by Conrad Black
As there is clearly no excuse for the special counsel to have been established, Mueller devotes the second half of his report to an effort to scratch together a virtual justification for it, by leading the reader through another maze to imply that there might be a conceivable case against the president for obstruction of justice. He acknowledges that he does not have a clear idea of the president’s motives, and so cannot judge if there was a corrupt motive, but cannot exonerate him either.
This is a reprehensibly unjust and shabby device. A special counsel is not in the exoneration business. If he thinks he has evidence of a crime by an incumbent president, that reaches the point of being beyond a reasonable doubt, he recommends impeachment.
Rosenstein should never have tolerated the assembly by Mueller of an investigative team that was so incandescently partisan and anti-Trump, and the acting FBI director, Andrew McCabe, was too conflicted, with his wife’s status as a Democratic state candidate in Virginia and protegee of the Clintons, and should never have had anything to do with any of it. All of these positions that should have been adopted but were not, should have been looked into by Mueller, instead of his wasting over a year in nonsense about obstruction, when it was obvious from the first day that there had been no crime to cover up or incite obstruction.
Even the most militant Democrats acknowledge the game of impeachment is up. Chairman Adam Schiff of the House Intelligence Committee doesn’t admit that there’s no ground to impeach, only that it can’t be done without any Republican collaboration. Speaker Nancy Pelosi comes to the same conclusion because “the president’s not worth it,” as if they had the ability to remove him but wouldn’t do it out of their high public responsibility and the president’s insignificance. The country is unlikely to have much patience with any more investigations of Trump. But it will be startled by the findings of the inspector general of the Justice Department, Mr. Michael E. Horowitz’s next report, and possibly by the mysterious special counsel John Huber (of Salt Lake City) looking into the Uranium and related activities of the Clinton Foundation for the last eighteen months, and by Attorney General William Barr and the Senate Judiciary Committee’s inquiries into how this destructive smear job was launched against the president in the first place. Some combination of those investigations is going to lay bare this entire sordid business, and some swollen and much-talking heads will roll.
This was the origin of VicPol rigging the prosecution of Pell.
For this false testimony, Melbourne archdiocese’ barrister bashed Ashton specifically and VicPol generally for their lies. Victoria Police wanted revenge and the tactic they used was “trawling” – literally advertising for mentally deranged people to come forward and make false allegations. They then liaised with the ABC and Fairfax to ensure any potential jury would convict Pell no matter what. Ashton is a lying, oily slug who belongs in a jail cell.
After the Christchurch shooting, Fairfax had an offensive cartoon that had statements by Abbott et al, inferring that such words caused the incident. Strange that when terrorism is created by non whites, there are few if any thoughts as to what the causes may be at all.

Surely there is a publisher who reads the Cat. It’s the new ‘shaming’ for progs
Yes it is a thing
Stop blaming the US for the Vietnam war, they didn’t start the war and were really just defending a culturally and historically separate people from invasion by the communist backed northerners. This was a conflict that started well before the French arrived in the 1700s and it’s a tragedy that the US pulled out to leave the now southern minority to the brutality of a communist regime. Continuing to read distorted versions of the story that don’t reference the real fears of South Vietnamese of the consequences of a North victory only adds insult to injury.
Thank you, Arky.

GetUp!’s guerrilla game plan
Peta Credlin
Forget the sham claims of independence, since its inception, GetUp! has been running guerrilla campaigns against Liberal MPs, especially conservative ones.
After the 2007 election, when GetUp! ran a how-to-vote website that no matter what questions were asked, advised voters to put the Liberal candidate last, the Electoral Commission branded their website “misleading and deceptive.”
In 2016, GetUp! boasted that it had ejected the former decorated army brigadier, and conservative, Andrew Nikolic from his Tasmanian seat of Bass.
This time it has even bigger targets: in Queensland, home affairs minister Peter Dutton; in Victoria, health minister Greg Hunt; in WA, attorney-general Christian Porter; and in NSW, their main focus, former PM Tony Abbott.
In the 2016 campaign, GetUp! supported the former Australian Idol host James Mathison in Abbott’s seat of Warringah. Mathieson only got 12 per cent of the total vote but it was designed as a dry-run.
This time, GetUp! is supporting former skier Zali Steggall who’s being marketed as “liberal-lite” but has admitted never voting Liberal in her life (at least federally) and wants a 60 per cent (!!) emissions reduction target.
Naturally, Steggall denies that she’s getting support from GetUp! but her co-campaign director is a GetUp! operative (the other one is a former Labor staffer) and GetUp! are mobilising literally hundreds of left-wing activists to pour into Abbott’s electorate.
For an organisation that still cries, “we’re independent”, their role as the “faux community” arm of the Left is now laid bare. Politics in this country used to be about debating the merits of one policy over another, with voters making the final decision. Sadly, it’s now about silencing debate, shutting down the contest of policies and ideas, and by targeting Liberal and conservative MPs, shifting Australia’s political “centre” to the left.
GetUp!’s claim of one million “members” might sound impressive but these are actually just people on its email list who might have signed an online petition at one time or even donated something as small as $5 dollars in the past and who have no voting rights whatsoever.
Far from being democratic, GetUp! Inc is controlled by just 12 directors (six of them Labor-affiliated and all of them left-wing activists). One of its founding board members was Bill Shorten.
All up, over the past 15 years, GetUp! has spent at least $42 million on political campaigning. A good proportion of GetUp!’s money ($12.5 million reported last year) does indeed come from smaller donations but the biggest single donor ($1.1 million in 2010) has been the militant CFMEU.
Despite advocating against foreign donations for years, GetUp! has accepted plenty of foreign money from left wing groups like the European Climate Fund ($93,000) and AVAAZ (a New York based “people power” group — $268,000). It’s even been reported that GetUp! has taken donations from a communist-backed organisation with links to the former Soviet Union.
One of GetUp!’s big local donors, the Sunrise Project (which gave $495,000 last November) is an anti-coal, pro-climate change mob that receives money from the US Tides Foundation, a “progressive” charity dedicated to “daring change”.
In Canada, Alberta premier-elect Jason Kenney (who won this week on a platform of scrapping Alberta’s carbon tax) declared in his victory speech: “to the Rockefeller Brothers Fund, The Tides Foundation…The David Suzuki Foundation and all of the others, your days of pushing Albertans around with impunity have just ended”
Last year, fellow conservative Doug Ford won the election in Ontario pledging to dump that province’s carbon tax too. Right around the world, everyday families and small business battling ever-higher energy costs are fighting back against the Left’s push to wind back our standard of living for absolutely no environment gain.
GetUp! and Bill Shorten like to categorise their opponents who want a sensible debate on climate change policy (and with transparent costings too) as “knuckle-dragging cavemen” but that’s where we’re headed if we insist reliable and affordable power is a modern-day luxury.

Mini satellites set to beam broadband Down Under
Chris Griffith
Technology Reporter
The chief of a leading global company offering low-orbit satellites is in talks with Australian firms to bring its new-age broadband service to Australia.
Conventional satellites in a geostationary orbit of about 36,000km offer slower broadband and suffer from slow response times (latency) due to the long distances that radio signals travel. But a new wave of networks of toaster-sized satellites travelling at 500km upwards from Earth promise to bring gigabit speeds to rural and regional areas and where fast broadband has been hard to install.
OneWeb is among a growing list of firms interested in the technology. They include SpaceX Starlink, Amazon and Facebook. Adelaide-based Fleet is among firms already adapting low-orbit satellites to collecting data from tiny sensors around the world. The technology has been adapted to high-resolution photography of Earth from low space.
Adrian Steckel, chief executive of OneWeb, said Australia was definitely on OneWeb’s agenda and he confirmed he had held talks with local companies.
“Yes we have, and I’m under a non-disclosure agreement so I can’t divulge the names,” he told The Australian
The company plans to put at least two earth stations in Australia. These earth stations would help OneWeb deliver the connectivity that could help connect the rural and remote towns, cities, people across Australia and Southeast Asia, he said.
OneWeb chjef executive Adrian Steckel (right) with founder and chairman Greg Wyler (left) and investor Sir Richard Branson.
Hundreds of small satellites the size of toasters form a constellation network.
OneWeb launched its first six satellites for its network in French Guiana in February. OneWeb and its joint-venture partner Airbus are preparing a major production of these satellites from June.
“We’re going to be building basically one satellite a day, and we can go up to two satellites a day by the end of the year,” he said. “We’ll be launching 35 satellites a month, every month for the next 20 months, starting December.”
The initial constellation will be 650 satellites orbiting at 1200km with commercial operations starting in 2021. The initial service will provide about one terabit of broadband communications. Mr Steckel’s next target is 2000 satellites by 2026.
It’s the latest communications project by Mr Steckel, a US-Mexican businessman who previously had been involved in rolling out many forms of communication technology in South America.
OneWeb was founded in 2012 by US tech entrepreneur Greg Wyler and initially focused on satellites in distant geostationary orbit. Steckel had spent 25 years in the communications business in Mexico heading firms offering cellular GSM, CDMA, HSPA, LTE and more.
He was also president and CEO of Azteca America, a subsidiary of one of the world’s biggest producers of Spanish-language television globally, and CEO of Unefon, a Mexican teleco with 1.4 million subscribers.
Working with the parent firm Grupo Salinas, he said he invested $US25 million ($35m) in OneWeb in 2015 and $US75m in January 2017. He became CEO of OneWeb last September.
He said the low-orbit satellite push had turned into a multibillion-dollar project.
“It’s taken us a while to get all the right partners on board and to get the engineering right,” he said.
“We saw the potential for low-orbit satellites in 2015 when we made our initial investment.
“We had a lot of experience in using (conventional) satellite and being unsatisfied with them as they have relatively small use cases. And the latency is very big.”
The Mexican conglomerate employed 80,000 people in Mexico at the time.
Through Grupo Salinas he also oversaw the building of fibre networks in Peru and Colombia.
Much of OneWeb’s charter is to deliver fast broadband in the developing world, but OneWeb’s financial backers also want their services available in the developed world, including countries such as Australia. He said it translated into higher GDP and development for all.
“They have different use cases. Aviation, maritime use, and land mobility would be what we most concentrate on in the developed world, and in the developing world, I would be working also with small businesses, and also with telcos to help broaden their networks.
“So you might want to put up a base station with 4G or 5G in a town. But getting the fibre optic cable there may not be practical, and you might connect through our satellite.”
Mr Steckel doesn’t see low-orbit satellite as being in direct competition with fibre networks such as Australia’s National Broadband Network or cellular, although these satellites and 5G are both perfect vehicles for collecting data from the millions of sensors expected to be installed to monitor agriculture, livestock, transport and more.
He sees them as complementary technologies. “If you have fibre in the ground, the fibre will always outperform any other technology. So we want to help broaden the reach of those systems,” he said.
“And we’re all about broadening the use case of satellites. We see a future where you have flat panel antennas in a car, on a train, on a plane and on a boat that are inexpensive, and allow you to get quality broadband at speed.”
A 3D rendered image of a small OneWeb satellite in orbit.
In Australia he sees future working with a local partner providing broadband services in regional and remote areas. Antennas needed less power to reach lower-orbit satellites so many earthbound users would communicate directly with them, other installations might involve a node of many users linking to the satellite.
In that vein, his satellites could offer last-mile solutions for Australia’s internet services including the NBN. OneWeb was particularly interested in fast internet connecting schools and community centres.
“We will certainly have ground stations that connect into the NBN in Australia,” he said.
The theoretical throughput of one terabit per second by 2021, or 10,000 connections at 100 megabits per second, means it won’t be taking over broadband delivery, but OneWeb promises to be effective plugging the gaps. Its satellite offering is small compared to plans announced by SpaceX and Amazon but its credibility is that it’s getting satellites launched.
Over time, that capacity would increase as newer “toaster” satellites were launched and the throughput capacity of each satellite would jump 10 times or more.
Mr Steckel said enough satellites would be launched to ensure continued connectivity across the globe with a satellite visible at all times. “We don’t see weather as being an issue,” he said, adding the system would be suited to aiding disaster recovery.
Again he saw low-orbit satellite as complementing 5G providing fast broadband, but he said it could service areas that 5G can’t such as boats at sea.
“These are tools in a toolkit. Generally speaking, there’s no magic, there’s no one tool that solves all problems.”
He said OneWeb was in contact with regulatory bodies to ensure its satellites don’t add to the proliferation of the already astronomical amounts of space junk in orbit. Options included using a robotic arm to collect older satellites or forcing them into lower orbits where they burned up.

I sat on an old box and at thirteen or fourteen didn’t have much myself to swing around in a buxom milkmaidly manner, although Old Lady had plenty. Friesians, as noted back thread, are the tremendous milkers, huge udders producing thin blue milk; my dad had some agisted with a guy who did all the work and who ended up with the lot when things finally went belly up for us at home. I don’t know what possessed my father to think he could ever become a small-scale farmer with a few pigs, chickens and a share in a ten Friesians, horrible big kicking animals who had mental problems at full moon. I fed the pigs and chickens every morning before school, as well as milking Old Lady. If I didn’t get to school, too bad. No-one seemed to notice, so I’d take a book down the creek to read. Many back blocks farm kids had poor attendances in those days.

Gab,
Pre-empted years ago by The Bishop’s Gambit in Yes Prime Minister
While Bernard is away, the PM asks Sir Humphrey to define “Modernist”. The Cabinet Secretary explains that, in Ecclesiastical circles, “Modernist” is code for an Atheist. “An Atheist clergyman,” he elaborates, “couldn’t continue to draw his stipend. So when they stop believing in God, they call themselves Modernist.”
Stunned, the PM demands to know why the Church would recommend an Atheist for Bishop of Bury St. Edmunds. Sir Humphrey explains that the Church of England has nothing to do with Christianity — it’s “part of the rich social fabric of this country” and the ideal Bishop is “a cross between a socialite and a socialist”. Then, Bernard returns with Canon Stanford’s record — the prospective Bishop is not only an Atheist, he is also a Marxist and a militant opponent of the Cold War. What is worse, being Bishop of Bury St. Edmunds will give Canon Stanford a platform in the House of Lords. Calling the Canon “a political troublemaker”, the PM announces that he doesn’t want to approve either candidate. Bernard and Sir Humphrey, however, explain that that would not be advisable.

IEEE Spectrum – How the Boeing 737 Max Disaster Looks to a Software Developer
Design shortcuts meant to make a new plane seem like an old, familiar one are to blame
The 737 first appeared in 1967, when I was 3 years old. Back then it was a smallish aircraft with smallish engines and relatively simple systems. Airlines (especially Southwest) loved it because of its simplicity, reliability, and flexibility. Not to mention the fact that it could be flown by a two-person cockpit crew—as opposed to the three or four of previous airliners—which made it a significant cost saver. Over the years, market and technological forces pushed the 737 into ever-larger versions with increasing electronic and mechanical complexity. This is not, by any means, unique to the 737. Airliners constitute enormous capital investments both for the industries that make them and the customers who buy them, and they all go through a similar growth process.
Much had to do with the engines themselves. The principle of Carnot efficiency dictates that the larger and hotter you can make any heat engine, the more efficient it becomes. That’s as true for jet engines as it is for chainsaw engines.
It’s as simple as that. The most effective way to make an engine use less fuel per unit of power produced is to make it larger. That’s why the Lycoming O-360 engine in my Cessna has pistons the size of dinner plates. That’s why marine diesel engines stand three stories tall. And that’s why Boeing wanted to put the huge CFM International LEAP engine in its latest version of the 737.
There was just one little problem: The original 737 had (by today’s standards) tiny little engines, which easily cleared the ground beneath the wings. As the 737 grew and was fitted with bigger engines, the clearance between the engines and the ground started to get a little…um, tight.

Personally I’m pretty sure the diggers would rather have the $12k while they are alive and kicking and able to enjoy it; as my dear old dad used to say, when you’re alive, live in clover, cos when you’re dead, you’re dead all over.
Come to think of it, don’t suppose shorterarse could cut me a slice of the $12k too. Perhaps on behalf of my whole family: for Mum and dad stoically working their arses off travelling all over the country to get work and feed & educate 5 kids, being too proud to take the dole, doing any work they could before finally getting together enough for a humble retirement, then falling off the perch after a lifetime of PUTTING IN. And for my 4 siblings and me, working from early to mid-teens to get ahead without so much as a single dole cheque to offset a lifetime of paying taxes. Dad must be turning in his ashes urn.
All this without so much as a thank you from the likes of this moron who now wants to clip the retirement tickets of the generations who made this place, so he can buy the votes of the new ‘privileged’ classes that keep getting shipped into the country, who are even less grateful. Words fail.
Commentor on the Oz website says that, between them, Bill Shorten and Richard Di Natale will make Gough Whitlam look like the blessed Saint Margaret Hilda.
I wouldn’t be putting too much faith in this clown’s report.
He was the bloke who thought Peter Strzok’s appointment didn’t result in bias.
How are the debil debil coal convoy celebs getting back to Tasmania?
Old Ozzie, That article is just about complete garbage.
He lost me at “The most effective way to make an engine use less fuel per unit of power produced is to make it larger. “. His Lycoming has large cylinders because it is low revving and hence needs the capacity to develop the required power. The reason for low revs is to avoid using a reduction gearbox to keep the prop tips from going supersonic.
The larger fan on the LEAP engine is for better propulsive efficiency to better match the exhaust velocity to the speed of flight. Any efficiency gains in the core don’t make it bigger, just hotter so less fuel required to drive the larger fan.
The time you took to read the article is time you’ll never get back.
While the media refuses to tell us the obvious – Mus lims did it – they are working hard on finding the Trump angle:
BuzzFeed News editor takes heat for suggesting Trump would be more outraged if Sri Lanka victims were white

It’s the Crying Game Election.

Any msm outlet mention the religion of pieces yet re: Sri Lanka.
Thank you for that banner, Sinclair.
Seven did this morning, cohenite.
Amazingly, they’re still broadcasting.
Don’t hold back, whats really on your mind.
If Oz gets a shortfilth government i hope you have a bolthole to go to.
Part of me misses Australia, it is where i come from and will always be part of me, but a bigger part of me doesn’t miss it at all.
That is very clever, i may borrow that line

Ok everybody stop commenting now, interwebs won for today.
Sri Lanka attack victims: British mother and son killed
Ah yes, it was very brief and as they say in the business smothered by other facts.
Sri Lanka: One jihad mass murderer was well-known Mus lim preacher who said “Allah created this land for Mus lims”

When it comes to a certain religion, the MSM goes into Zaphod Beeblebrox mode; 2 talking heads at odds with the peril sunglasses in opaque mode.
Their abc operate on the basis that truthful is not always helpful and if you can’t say anything helpful, it is best to say nothing.
If you say something helpful that is not yet truthful, it is obviously not a lie, simply something said a little too soon.
Comrades.
Uh oh. I’m in the bad books for that comment.
From now on I promise not to publish movie spoilers.

Well said!
I never managed to watch the Crying Game all the way through, and somewhere in my mind always confused it with Reindeer Games.
Something about a transexual deer fighting for the IRA.
Ben Affleck played the deer IIRC.

Compare and contrast the speed which “right wing” terrorism was blamed for the New Zealand massacre, to the obfuscation going on here about Sri Lanka. The West Australian never even mentioned the M word until near the end of the article, where they reckoned that Buddhists had been picking on the M people. Got that? It’s the Buddhist’s fault!
Here is the ABC throwing smoke:
What’s the bet that Slomo and Dolly never even mention the M word in relation to this.
Seriously, what is the point? Who do think they are kidding?

And of course, Liam Neeson, playing Rudolf, had that great line:
“You can’t handle the hoof”.
We live in a strange world, where:
No one has died from climate change per se, yet lives to be lost is a main reason for change. Yet 290 people dying from terrorism is no big deal.
People judge Pell as being guilty without knowing the evidence against him, yet will say that we can’t judge as to who was behind the events in SL as ‘we don’t know all of the facts’.
Some, non-economic, differences between scomo and tits:

While the lardy Mzzzz Payne is opining or, more truthfully, forbidding opining on SL mass murder…
Any updates on Dr. Ken Elliott? How’s DEFAT (appropriate acronym) going on securing his whereabouts and release?
Death toll now 290.
Sadly there will be more to come, prospects not good if you’re wounded and in a massively overloaded hospital system.
cohenite #2994632,
Show me where Sco-Mo has gone out and campaigned on ANY of those issues you listed. Show me a speech putting forward their side and contrasting themselves with the other guys.
Has Jacinda Jihadi said anything monumentally stupid on the Sri Lankan mu slim terrorist attack yet?
You know very well Tel, that the controversial stuff is not front and centre because conservatives are cowards these days but they generally don’t touch these issues like the left. Of course the lacuna between libs and liars is razor thin too hence the success of the SSM crapola. But right now these issues are treated differently by the majors. Just saying.
Is FA conservative?
The ABC have decided who is responsible for the massacre of Christians in Sri Lanka. It is right wing white extremists.
If Mozlems are involved it is only because they are understandably responding to the Christchurch shootings.

Sri Lankan Defence Minister Ruwan Wijewardene described the bombings as a terrorist attack by religious extremists, although there was no immediate claim of responsibility.
Well obviously.

Portugal.
And who is Portugal’s oldest ally?

That voluminous POS Payne knows goddamn well who’s responsible for the Sri Lanka bombings, killing 290 and injuring 500.
The Australian public are, in general terms, more informed and aware than ever before of world events.
To even mention the word ‘conjecture’ in public discussion is both an embarrassment to herself and insulting to the public.
I’m having trouble processing this.
Instead of feathering its own nest and its delegates rorting free piss for life from building site managers, the CFMEU almost, almost, seems to be publicly displaying an interest in actual and prospective mining jobs.
If – IF – this is true, then………. *ahem*
Well done, CFMEU. There, I said it. I know the unions have a knack for playing the long game, but still.
So Sheridan will be a Christian today, ardern will cover herself in crucifixes and every media outlet and politician will disparage the religion of pieces.
Moment of Zen.
Just as fascism was Marxism applied to a national group identity, so we can complete the analogy into a full circle by noting that the envy and hatred of the successful by leftist Progressives is simply rascism applied to an economic group identity. In both cases, once you’ve mentally relocated all your own shortcomings onto an other, attacking that other becomes the solution to all your problems.
Hope I didn’t oversell it.

There is no excuse for terror attacks against innocent people but as a journalist I saw Western Christian missionaries unscrupulpusly converting Buddhist orphans for food and shelter after the Asian tsunami. Don’t send your prayers. #SriLankaBlasts
So let me unpick this.
M**slims blew up Christians because some Christians tried to convert Buddhists after the Asian tsunami?
Another attendee of the mirror man school of facts.
Nah. The CFMEU is trying to dispel the notion that “Bill is bed with the unions”.
Its simply a trick to allay voter fears (that is probably polling/survey driven). The wuckers will get thrown under a bus the minute Bill is confirmed as PM.
I see that Sinc has doxed Jesus with his latest banner.
To think that a Facebook post about drunks and gays has had more media examination and outrage than 300 people being blown up during Easter.
This morning on Ch 7 a newsreader referred to the election of a former comedian in “war torn Syria“.
In the meantime, the backdrop showed assorted cyrillic writing and cheering Ukranians.
