Hopefully next move will be to replace John Stanley with Jane Marwick full time.

Jane is a very sensible lady.

Poor old JC is so embittered by his hatred of me that he is defending the absurd notion of a national temperature average. It’s kind of flattering to have the equivalent of Trump Derangement Syndrome aimed at one. That said, it’s sad that somebody who can act rationally in the financial markets completely loses it when somebody he doesn’t like says something.

There is no such thing as an average temperature for a continent. Any competent statisician, geographer, or observer of the BoM’s metrics could explain why. It’s a meaningless concept.

It was dreamed up by the warmenistas to generate scary headlines, faithfully reproduced by the stenographers.

BTW, have you had that mole checked recently? I would, if I were you. 🙂

  3. This may be an unpopular view in this part of the internet, but I have no problem with the rigorous enforcement of perfectly justified, indeed necessary, laws prohibiting mobile phone use while driving.

Juan I might have thought you were someone else, so what do you think of stand your ground laws and the castle doctrine?

The BofBullshit has just told us that today was the hottest evah:

Time for a minor amendment to ScoMo’s recent Administrative Arrangements Order.

Remove the climateers from the BoM, and put them with their fellows in the CSIRO. Tgendirect that the BoM provide forecasts for no more than four days ahead, and report each day what they forecast, and what happened.

Then screw down the CSIRO budget for climate “research”.

Seems Smith will do weekend shows

Is he joining the The Garden Clinic or The Continuous Call Team? 2GB doesn’t really do Smith’s style of show on weekends.

Chris Smith was offered Steve Price’s old evening slot once 2GB decided to go with Steve Price for afternoons; he turned it down.

Steve Price was also offered his old evening slot once 2GB decided to go with someone else for afternoons; he also turned it down.

So it looks like John Stanley’s job is safe!

A hundred km in 3 hours? Yep, we’ve hurtled into the 21stC we have.
It’s fun that Gladys’ trams were also very very slow this week.

A diesel bus will go no faster. Not everyone lives on the side of a highway Bruce. A city bus has a lot of stop start and traffic, that’s what they are all like.

Electric motors can give all the speed you want, that’s never been a problem. I’m fairly confident an electric bus would move off from the lights quicker than a regular bus.

A random sample of ‘the hottest evah!’ day in Aus. Remote stations with some sort of history., so we can ignore UHI. This is BOM’s own data.
I’ve picked what looks like a common hot day in the past for the following sites.

    Site / Today / 2Jan1973
    Bourke NSW: 40.4 / 43.6
    Broken Hill NSW: 41.3 / 41.8
    Birdsville QLD: 47.2 / 45.5
    Halls Creek WA: 43.8 / 41.5
    Giles WA: 42.9 / 44.5
    Oodnadatta SA: 43.8 / 45.3

    mean: 43.2C / 43.7C

Sure, this isn’t comparing apples, but it shows that this random scattering of remote sites had a least one hotter day in the past (and I just randomly poked around, so I am certain this is not the highest).

Giles only goes back to 1956. I’d love to see the homogenization bullshit the BOM came up with to determine older records. I wonder just how old their ‘Australian average’ number goes back.

This is hilarious – the strongest trend in warming over Australia since 1910, of 0.2°C/decade is smack bang where there are no stations

Alice Springs is to blame for that:

I now turn to Alice Springs, which ‘has a notably large “footprint”’. Too right it does- its impact on the national climate signal is 7% to 10%, according to the 2011 Review Panel, p. 12.

Alice Springs, cooling slightly compared with neighbours, has been adjusted (-0.57C at 1/1/1932) so that the Acorn reconstruction is warming (+0.66C / 100 years) relative to its neighbours. The adjustment is much too large.

And exactly where are these neighbours?

Tennant Creek (450 km away), Boulia (620 km), Old Halls Creek (880 km), Tibooburra (1030 km), Bourke (1390 km), and Cobar (1460 km)!

The site with the largest impact on Australia’s climate signal has been “homogenised” with neighbours from 450 km to 1460 km away- except the adjustment was too great, resulting in the reconstruction warming too much (+0.66C / 100 years) relative to these neighbours. The same applies at Kalgoorlie. Meekatharra’s record only starts in 1927 so its effect can be discounted. These are the only remote Acorn sites that had large adjustments at this time. All other remote Acorn sites open at this time either have similar trends in raw and Acorn or had no adjustments in this period.

Sorry, C.L. if it was just a garage band (and that’s what it sounds like) nobody would give it five seconds.

  51. dover_beach

As of this writing, at least ten studies published since 2010 report a tremendous rise in ED. Rates of ED among men under 40 ranged from 14 percent to 37 percent, and rates of low libido from 16 percent to 37 percent. No variable related to youthful ED has meaningfully changed since then, except for one: the advent of on-demand video porn in 2006. It’s worth repeating: we went from less than 1 percent of erectile dysfunction in young men to 14 to 37 percent, an increase of several orders of magnitude.

Whatever you think of fMRI of the brain, those numbers re ED and low-libido among men under 40 are worrying and call for some explanation.

Whatever you think of fMRI of the brain, those numbers re ED and low-libido among men under 40 are worrying and call for some explanation.

You need to point to a possible causal mechanism. Sperm rates have been declining for decades, testicular case incidence is increasing, we still don’t know why. The most common cause of ED is vascular. Too many fat young men with advanced atherosclerosis is a more probable cause because in these days, especially in the USA, there are concerning findings of atherosclerosis even in teenagers. Lack of exercise also means lower T levels and low sperm counts certainly suggest that. Long ago a friend of mine warned me that while there is an issue with xenoestrogens there may be a problem with anti-androgens. That is another possible explanation.

Men who chronically watch porn are losers, mostly fat lonely alienated slobs jerking off to relieve the tedium and desperation of their lives. If they get ED they bloody well deserve it.

There are studies that point to a possible issue but the ones I looked also were not conclusive and argued for higher quality studies. The three large studies below argue against the association.

To be directive: when you see journalists and others making the arguments as in the original link don’t trust it. Look for supporting evidence. I hate to admit but in the world today there are so many people pushing barrows I almost invariably need to find supporting evidence.

The Potential Associations of Pornography Use With Sexual Dysfunctions: An Integrative Literature Review of Observational Studies

There is little if no evidence that pornography use may induce delayed ejaculation and erectile dysfunction, although longitudinal studies that control for confounding variables are required for a full assessment.

    2015
Is Pornography Use Associated With Sexual Difficulties and Dysfunctions Among Younger Heterosexual Men?

    Abstract
Introduction: Recent epidemiological studies reported high prevalence rates of erectile dysfunction (ED) among younger heterosexual men (≤40). It has been suggested that this “epidemic” of ED is related to increased pornography use. However, empirical evidence for such association is currently lacking.

Aim: This study analyzes associations between pornography use and sexual health disturbances among younger heterosexual men using four large-scale online samples from three European countries.

Conclusion: We found little evidence of the association between pornography use and male sexual health disturbances. Contrary to raising public concerns, pornography does not seem to be a significant risk factor for younger men’s desire, erectile, or orgasmic difficulties.

Is Pornography Use Related to Erectile Functioning? Results From Cross-Sectional and Latent Growth Curve Analyses. J Sex Med 2019;16:111-125.

Conclusion: In conjunction with prior literature, we conclude that there is little or no evidence of an association between mere pornography use and ED, consistent evidence of an association between self-reported problematic use and ED cross-sectionally, and no evidence of causal links between any pornography variables and ED. Just watched Marriage Story on Netflix. I’m surprised it’s out so quick because wifey went to see it with a couple of friends in NYC and that was only about 4 odd weeks ago.

Adam Driver’s in it. I always took him for a bit of a cuck, he is a little bit of one in the movie, but he did a decent performance. Scarlett Johansson’s is in it too with short hair and wow, is she getting more masculine by the day. I wouldn’t be shocked if she has a sex change.

But the one I really can’t stand is Laura Dern. There’s just something about that woman that turns me off. She is so Californian.

Overall, it’s watchable if you have nothing to do.

Driver wasn’t that much of a cuck in real life. He seems to only play those roles.

Shortly after the September 11 attacks, Driver joined the Marines and was assigned to Weapons Company, 1st Battalion, 1st Marines as an 81mm mortar man. He served for two years and eight months before dislocating his sternum while mountain biking. He was medically discharged with the rank of Lance Corporal.

It is sacred due to its past as a place of healing and retreat with many legendary associations into the deep past, enhanced by a monastic presence there in early Post-Roman Christian times.

It is certainly still sacred today to many Christian pilgrims, as also is its founding House on St Columba’s Iona in the north-west just off Scotland.

    Both are similar places.

The most common cause of ED is vascular. Too many fat young men with advanced atherosclerosis is a more probable cause because in these days, especially in the USA, there are concerning findings of atherosclerosis even in teenagers.

But the thesis is men’s inability to maintain an erection with real women, not an erection at all. As PEG writes:

Online forums are full of anguished reports from young men about ED. An agonizing story is eerily common: a young man has his first sexual experience; his girlfriend is willing, he loves her or at least is attracted to her, but finds himself simply unable to sustain an erection (though he is perfectly able to maintain one when he watches porn). Many more report a milder version of the same problem: during sex with their girlfriend, they must visualize pornographic movies in their heads to sustain their erection.

You can’t wave that away by means of obesity as it doesn’t explain the ease of maintaining arousal by means of porn, though not with an actual women filling his five senses. And the difference does point to a causal mechanism associated with the brain.

Reading through the lines, I think he’s deeply, deeply upset by it all. Those canutes haven’t given him a single day of clear sailing from day one. It’s been one hoax after another.

Adam Schiff and Nadler deserve a seriously decent hiding.

    Here’s and admission

We have some pals who are on friendly terms with politicians and because we lived where we did, they were on friendly terms with D’rat pols. I thought it would do my kid some good padding his resume if I managed to get him an internship in Washington over our summer. Washington internship with a US pol…. It would look great starting out on the first job. It would look good after law school.
I asked our friend if he could arrange it and he did with Jerry Nadler. Nadler’s Washington office emailed our friend and said they would be happy to take him in. And then, and then our kid flaked out. It was summer here and he wanted time off in warm weather and didn’t want to leave his girlfriend at the time. I ended up with egg on my face with our friend because of the massive flaking.
It was a fortuitous flake I think… although I still reckon it would have looked great on his starting out resume.

A huge culture change occurred way back in the 70s when Flint got the green light to publish photos of vulvas. I just read the Wiki entry out of interest and wasn’t surprised to see the mainstreaming of child molestation by him (and other mags) throughout the 1970s. This is a fact being assiduously disappeared nowadays. The political left everywhere in those days was strongly pro-molestation. That was their default position.

In 1984, conservative academic Judith Reisman received a grant from the Department of Justice to complete a study at American University concerning the cartoons of Playboy, Penthouse, and Hustler, specifically the sexual depictions of minors in these cartoons. She finished the study in 1986, and found that on average, the number of times per issue that Hustler referred to children, crime, and violence was 46…

Hustler’s chief cartoon artist Dwaine Tinsley was arrested on May 18, 1989, after being accused by his 18-year-old daughter Allison of molesting her since she was thirteen years old. According to court records, he allegedly told his coworkers, “You can’t write about this stuff all the time if you don’t experience it.” Tinsley was found guilty of five counts of child molestation and sentenced to six years in prison although he only spent 23 months behind bars. Tinsley was the artist behind the regular “Chester the Molester” series, which ran from 1976 to 1989.

You can’t wave that away by means of obesity as it doesn’t explain the ease of maintaining arousal by means of porn, though not with an actual women filling his five senses. And the difference does point to a causal mechanism associated with the brain.

Lack of exercise and poor diets have very worrying effects on the brain. It is very well established that exercise is one of the best means to induce neurogenesis. There is literature pointing to hypothalamic inflammation arises from fat laden diets. Obesity causes systemic inflammation and that has implications for so called executive functions, a recent study even pointed to possible dopaminergic disruption. This health-behavior linkage is old news, all the way back to Benjamin Hart’s concept of sickness behavior. The brain is not separated from the body, the brain is not the sole mediator of behavior.

The literature does not support the argument for porn and ED. In biomedicine it is not enough to have a logical argument. I joke with people that there is so much research it is easy to create plausible arguments. Evidence is critical and the peer reviewed literature does not support the claims. Why are you supporting an argument when the evidence is not sufficient?

Online forums only prove that people have too much faith in anecdotal reports.

I have no doubt that there is a number of people for whom porn is a serious problem but that can be said of a multitude of things in the world, even sugar which activates the reward pathways. That’s the price we pay for an open society.

Mitch you are not an expert.

Mitch, at its crudest, the oft spruiked relationship between exercise and longevity is a bust.

Sort of but irrespective of longevity, which has a strong genetic component, odds are regular exercise is a good strategy because it delays the onset of chronic health problems. In the “blue zones” the individuals who live long don’t exercise like we do, it is more that their lifestyle keeps them moving most of the time in a gentle way whereas in our culture for most people that isn’t possible so we go to gyms, do yoga, run, swim, whatever and then go back to sitting behind a desk looking at a screen. I don’t have the genes for longevity but I enjoy the time at the gym and so does my body.

Never saw a 16. Maybe it was for spoken word only libraries.

We had all the other speed records.

The thing was that each speed would slow down or speed up music and the pitch would be altered by exactly an octave compared to the next one.

So you could learn to play a tricky passage by switching down to the next speed and it would still be in tune.

Or at least it worked near enough by playing a 45 at 33.

    Mater’s Meteorology Challenge Update

Predictions for High in Horsham for Fri 20 Dec 2019
    Current Time: D-1

    Weather.com.au:
Weather.com.au, has revert to its ‘bold move’ strategy and stepped their prediction back up to 48 degrees.
    (Previously – 42, 38, 48, 47, 47, …)

    YR App:
YR has gone with 45 degrees again.
    (Previously – 39, 42, 44, 45, 45, …)

This close to the event, YR has also started providing predicted hourly temps. So in fairness, I’ll provide their equivalent of what WeatherZone has done for the entire 7 days:

    1500 hrs – 45
    1600 hrs – 45
    1700 hrs – 45
    1800 hrs – 44

    WeatherZone:
After a brief soirée in the lower temps, WeatherZone has returned to its original prediction of 47 degrees. The Temperature Curve looks quite flat. The Error Band has continued to tighten…if only slightly.
    (Previously – 47, 47, 45, 46, 46, …)

    1500 hrs – 44.9 (Previously – 44.8, 44, 41.9, 43.9, 44, …)
    1600 hrs – 45.3 (Previously – 45.3, 44.9, 42.7, 43.7, 44.5, …)
    1700 hrs – 45.6 (Previously – 45.6, 45.6, 43.6, 44.6, 44.6, …)
    1800 hrs – 45.6 (Previously – 44.7, 44.8, 43.1, 44.4, 44.3…)

    Error bar – 43.8->47.5 (Yesterday – 42.5->47)

The hottest day evah will probably have the same effect as the extreme heat in late 1973. It will drag a strong monsoon south and produce a wet 2020 as was 1974.

When are the men going to stand up and stop the female hysteria so gripping the west?

I love women, but that is not the point.
Men know what women are and we should no more give them power to rule as we should let them fight our wars.

Has anyone ever really encountered a female boss who wasn’t overcompensating for the fact she is shitting her knickers underneath.
They are not born for it, and do not want it.

The rare ones who do, used to rise to the top without help, like Thatcher, as it should be.
These people who we should hold up on pedestals for all that they are, humans totally different than us and wired that way, instead we let , actually push them (other females telling them what they should achieve) into a world they are uncomfortable in and we must hold ourselves to blame.

    Put it this way.
How would the Climate Change movement be going without the participation of a sex that can believe in astrology, something men laugh at?
Women are timid and fearful even when they say they are not, and it leads to the panic we see amongst the majority of kids out on climate strikes who are fearful young girls, and those strikes in turn driven by the very female dominated education system of fearful gullible hags that aren’t ever being countered or opposed by men.
Men of the west, to let your young children down like this, by not standing up to female hysteria, as is the very bloody reason you were put on this earth, is shameful.
Most of the bullshit regarding the sexes is female led and would never have seen the light of day, and never did, right up until women started calling the shots that underneath they do not want to call.

The experiment has caused untold misery for men and women alike, and yes technology has changed the world, and the pill etc, and men no longer need to work harder and do the jobs that women could not physically do , like wheat bag stuff, but there at least needs to be a redressing here.
Please realise our overarching responsibility is first and foremost to be men.
To take the fear from women’s hearts and calm them down and give them security.
To make them admire you enough to want to be in your tribe.

    Our civilisation depends on it.

I’m just putting it out there, as I realise there are many men here on the Cat with the integrity and strength of conviction and decency that marks a man.
I just want to get messages like that out to young blokes other than my son and to those who have seriously never contemplated that by birth right, they are here to lead with all the terrible responsibility that comes with it.
If we don’t as a nation become a nation of men who care enough to say no to women, we can forget our civilisation.

  183. Shy Ted

I still can’t believe the Ron Brierley story.
Me too but maybe for different reasons. Am I missing something here but 200,000+ images? Would that be a movie broken down into screenshots or something like that? It just doesn’t seem feasible that anyone could actually look at that many images let alone download them. I just did a quick image search of snakes and counted the number on a single page. You’d have to be sat at your computer all day, every day for months running into years to even glance at that many.

The literature does not support the argument for porn and ED. In biomedicine it is not enough to have a logical argument. I joke with people that there is so much research it is easy to create plausible arguments. Evidence is critical and the peer reviewed literature does not support the claims. Why are you supporting an argument when the evidence is not sufficient.

What the literature says is in dispute. I don’t know whether the evidence is conclusive, but I support further investigation of sound arguments.

The Supreme Court Must Not Let Google’s Theft of Intellectual Property Stand

Creepy as its invasions of user privacy lies to the public are, it would be one thing if Google were playing by the rules. But the company has not proven itself a trustworthy actor in that regard, either. As it’s grown larger, it has begun to break the law with increasing impunity, daring its competitors to engage in years-long, expensive lawsuits and betting that policymakers are too slow to keep up.

Google is currently embroiled in a lawsuit with the software-development company Oracle, over what Oracle claims is outright theft of its intellectual property. If Google prevails, the outcome will fundamentally change digital-copyright protections as we know them.

At the center of the dispute are 11,500 lines of code that Google is accused of copying from Oracle’s Java programming language for use in its Android mobile operating system, the most popular mobile OS in the world. According to the legal filings, Google initially approached Oracle about licensing Java for Android after trying and failing to write its own code. When negotiations stalled, Google simply copied the code anyway. Oracle sued Google in 2010, alleging that Google’s use of the code violated copyright law. Google doesn’t dispute its wholesale copying of the code. Rather, it argues that its theft of the code falls under the “fair use” doctrine of copyright law, because it has sufficiently transformed the code by placing it in a new context — namely, a mobile OS.

Oh please. Porn has been around forever. Just look at some of the murals in Pompeii and Herculaneum.

Not at all. The thesis is about the easy availability and variety of copious amounts of free porn online. BTW, the comparison to ancient Rome is absurd. Huge segments of the population didn’t stand in front of murals masturbating, then move on to another mural to continue. Nor were artists painting different actors in ever increasing debauched scenes to maintain the interest of viewers.

The kiddie bad pictures are swapped around as packages, hundreds in one go. Read a few crim cases involving these perverts and you find they trade them like property. Thousands at a time. It would not take long for a sicko to get hundreds of thousands just takes some money and he had plenty.

If you read their sentencing you see the same pattern over and over of swapping / buying it in bulk.

The question for Ron’s case is did he undertake any attacks on kids himself. With this news some now adults may be prepared to come forward.

Further research may be important regarding the impact of pron on young men’s sexual functioning, given its ready availability, but the causal chain must inevitably be diffuse in any finding. Internet pron is just one aspect of a much wider phenomenon that psychologically affects young men today in ways that may be deleterious, i.e. the rise of feminist and other social agendas that denigrate them. There is also the confounding issue (perhaps) of increasing plant and animal oestrogen levels in the food chain, plus there is also the lack of a male culture of bonding and fighting, age-old male forms of interaction which may be emotionally important in hormonal terms, especially re testosterone production and maintenance. Even football and other sports, a good proxy for this, are being feminised. Add these factors above to the general stressors of modern life for males in the workplace and the diversity of non-usual sexual relationships encouraged for men and the causal picture regarding male sexual psychology and sexual functioning gets even more murky.

    Just sayin’.

2010??? Pftt – As an Old 360 Assembler Programmer working on IPARS under TPF Op System

IBM developed APIs with American Airlines to create PARS and in 1965, they then developed IPARS with BOAC which became QANTAM Reservations System

The UI package which supports input and output messages for terminals logged on to reservation type applications, contains tables which are used to determine the program to be executed based on the message action code. There are two entry tables and one enter table for each application which uses the UI package (up to five applications are allowed). If the package is to be used, you must define in segment UIIA which entry and enter tables are to be used for each application. The entry and enter tables are contained in program segment UIIB, and if required, UIIC through UIIF. You must code the entry and enter tables specifying the action codes to be used and the programs to be activated for processing.

The entry tables convert the action codes to index values. One table converts the action codes which come in as keyboard entries, whereas the other table converts action codes which are the result of a function/action key (also referred to as the pushbutton) entries. These index values are subsequently used to address the enter table which contains an ENTNC or ENTDC macro for the required program.

z/TPF was originally designed as the operating system for the Programmed Airline Reservations System (PARS) and for the International Programmed Airline Reservation System (IPARS) application. The UI package was that part of the application which supported the sending and receiving of messages to terminals logged on to the reservation application.

The message router requirements for the UI package are those for an application using an LNIATA rather than a resource identifier (RID) (see Message router application attributes). If the PARS/IPARS application is required you must specify RES=YES on the CONFIG macro and also supply the PARS user dependent variables via the USEREQ macro. The Fare Quote/Issue Ticket program product may also be included via the FQTK keyword of the CONFIG macro.

My comment on Porn is this.

I was talking to my FIL the other day who told me that the young guys around his son’s age prefer to choke the chicken than going out talking to the fat dumb sluts in this area.

    Fine state of affairs.
It’s a spiral of what cum first, the chicken choking or the fat egg.
Again it goes back, in my view to my previous comment about the role of women in our civilisation.
Young men, come out of our education system, ruled by Marxist women assured that if they shaved their heads they’d find 666 on their body somewhere.
    Men let this happen.
Dealing with the insane, fat, entitled,do nothing females available to them, I can totally understand that they would rather knock the top off it looking at a decent looking female, the likes many other countries seem to have, who if you snagged one might even cook you dinner once in a while.
    Let’s face it, it’s a total mess.

I often say that “it starts in the schools” and this result of cultural Marxism also started here.
An attractive young girl who you could win that would work alongside you in marriage is just a thousand times better than porn for a young bloke, as they always were.
There’s always been porn around, and a playboy was as erotic back in the day as a porn hub video is today, but young men preferred the real thing and still do when it is attractive and worthwhile.

Remember these young blokes have been told they are shit all their lives from hysterical women in education, drugged for being male and we focus on the porn available?

Marxist harridans have purposely brought down both sexes to be so unappealing to each other, the porn really is the only option left.
We get our schools back from the Marxists and bring up young people who are attractive and appealing to the opposite sex and the joy of it all, of being in love, of puppy love etc, remember, and porn would only be the losers vice.
Right now we have way too many losers that wouldn’t be if we hadn’t let the Marxist harridans at them in education.

Johanna it is my opponents who care about what other people do in the privacy of their homes. I used those points to illustrate that the behavior is mediated by more than the brain. I’m not a libertarian, far from it, but I am suspicious of moral crusaders cherry picking research to justify laws regulating our lives.

Regulating porn won’t stop people playing with themselves so people will still have their ‘privacy’. BTW, have I denied that behaviour is mediated by more than the brain? Not at all.

Basically a lot of young men find chasing substandard in all ways females a stupid proposition.
Everyone of them knows what the family court is all about and what risks they take with the real thing in Australia.
My point is, maybe we should look at the reasons they’ve given up participating in what should be the most exciting time of their lives, hearts full of desire, excitement , dizzy with it all, as many of us were with the superb level of females available to us to try and win.

Struth, insomnia is worse if you worry about it. For what it’s worth, here’s my cure: just get up, get a hot drink (milk is good if you like it) or even a cold drink, have something like a bikkie to eat, go to the loo, then go back to bed and read a book. Use a little book lite to avoid disturbing Mrs. Struth. You just have to take your mind off the day’s happenings and into another story. See the doc for a physical if it continues, and ask him/her for a script for Temazepam if you can convince them you aren’t going to rely on them forever (which you aren’t). Take half or even a quarter to settle yourself down. This way, a pack of 25 can last for a year! Or do the same with Panadol. The very act of self-treatment kicks in a placebo effect anyway.

Dividing spoils of $190m stolen wages win ‘risks injustice’

    Exclusive

Torres Strait Islander women who had their wages stolen by the Queensland government will be paid less than half the compensation for Aboriginal men, under a proposed $190m settlement scheme based on race and gender drafted by lawyers for the indigenous workers.

Federal Court judge Bernard Murphy will on Thursday be asked to approve the dispersal of the $190m July settlement from the Queensland government, after thousands of indigenous workers had their wages taken by the government, or effectively worked as slaves, between 1939 and 1972.

The Australian can reveal the settlement scheme is based on whether the workers are alive or have died, their age, race and gender, with $50m to be carved off first for the litigation funders and lawyers.

Settlement documents show that, broadly, Aboriginal men will receive a certain amount, Aboriginal women’s payments will be discounted by 20 per cent, Torres Strait Islander men will be paid half of what Aboriginal men are paid, and Torres Strait Islander women will be paid 60 per cent less than what Aboriginal men get.

Aboriginal leader Mick Gooda — who led the Queensland Stolen Wages Reparations Taskforce that paid out $21m in 2016 — said the dispersal plan and the fees were “flabbergasting” and risked perpetuating an “historic injustice” and creating division.

Justice Murphy will be asked to sign off on $38m — or 20 per cent — of the settlement going to litigation funders Litigation Lending, which took on the risk of the class action, and $12.5m for legal costs to be shared between solicitors, barristers, accountants and anthropologists.

More than 11,000 workers and their descendants will share in the remainder, about $140m.

Justice Murphy will be asked to decide whether the scheme is fair, reasonable and in the interests of the class action members.

Cairns-based Bottoms English Lawyers, solicitors for the workers and their relatives, helped devise the settlement scheme. Associate Jerry Tucker said a flat distribution would be unfair, and the scheme had been based on evidence and the law. “The reality is, female Aboriginal workers such as cooks or domestic servants received a significant disparity in wages (compared with Aboriginal male stockmen),” Ms Tucker said.

“This is a deeply unfair historical aberration, it’s not something we support, and we did not make that decision lightly, but we could not ignore the reality.”

She said Aboriginal people were in line to receive more than Torres Strait Islanders because evidence showed Islanders working on pearling and fishing boats received more pay, and had more control over their bank accounts.

Sometimes, Struth, I find that you can actually enjoy your insomnia, wandering around the house peering out of windows to see how the world looks at this hour, or sitting down enjoying your place in a new perspective, in quietude.

It helps to know too that all over town there are people like you, awake, some of them at work of course, but others just sitting having a think, like you are. It is comforting to know that. You aren’t alone, but you are being left in peace. Rather nice.

    Thanks Lizzie.
I have been a truckie/ tour driver for much of my life and four hours a night was probably the average, sleeping in trucks or swags.
Now I am home and just playing the odd gig I can sleep for eight …..ten hours what ever I want most of the time.
I wake up after four or five hours, but I get back to sleep mostly.
I do as you say, but the book I read is just catallaxy……………………it’s light reading and easily fall aslee……………………………………….snore……………………..

    Oh the ironing!
ABC radio bemoaning the lot of the refugees and our cruel no boats policy and the very next story is about swine flu in Bali. Not a mention of the risk undocumented boats pose dropping in on our shores loaded with Asian piggy snacks.
    Peak stupid.
