Francis walks in empty Rome to venerate the famous Plague Crucifix of 1522.
Liberty Quote
Civilization is the progress toward a society of privacy. The savage’s whole existence is public, ruled by the laws of his tribe. Civilization is the process of setting man free from men.

I’ve been so many times to Rome and knew none of this.
People forget the power of prayer.
Are his five guys ordained?
I like the idea of firearm-armed security priests.
He’s entirely justified to have them after the Turk shot John-Paul II.
It’s a wonderful photo. It captures the quiet, the serene, the everyday.
And in the middle of it all, an outcropping of the eternal.
Not priests, Bruce, no.
Swiss Guard.
They are armed with Sig P220 pistols and Heckler & Koch MP7 sub-machineguns.
Yes C.L. Don’t let the ones in ceremonial garb fool you. All of them are very highly trained soldiers.
is that a bear or a pope???
looks like an argantinian communist to me
All symbolism, no substance, like all good communists. How about shelling out some of the Vatican’s billions for the poor and vulnerable in Catholic communities in failed countries? Nah, just a quick stroll up the Via della Conciliazione commemorating a plague 700 years ago will serve just as well.
Amadeus – piss off you ignorant fool.
From calli at 10:00 pm:
Yes, it surely is special.
Some years ago Daughter No 2 was in Rome alone, waiting for a girlfriend to join her for their holiday. Wandering about the Vatican she had a Swiss guard chat her up and offer for her to attend Mass with the Holy Father. She responded that she understood he was away at their summer place but the guard told her he was back unexpectedly and she found herself being escorted into Mass with Pope Benedict.
She woke me in tears an hour afterwards – it was an immensely powerful moment for her, locked her into her faith for life.
Nice picture of the Wedding Cake but who is the guy in white followed by the men in black? Could be a preview of the next movie.
Amadeus you’re playing with something but it ain’t the piano, maybe the harpsi.
Amadeus has got a point though.
I like the idea of firearm-armed security priests.
I’ve met a man of the cloth (not Catholic) who worked in a risky area in one of America’s great cities and has since gone on to lead his denomination.
He had a concealed carry permit.
There is one in Rouen France, near the cathedral similiar thing.

I’m actually a concert pianist, PF, and am familiar with the harpsichord and pipe organs as well. St Peter’s has a fairly good pipe organ but getting sound around the Basilica is problematic due to the interior design of the cathedral. Organists and choir conductors find it a bit of a nightmare.
Due to the problems with the original organ, a new digital organ donated by Allen & Co in 2017 is now mainly used for recitals and choral work.
But then what would I know. According to our “friendly commentor” above:

Amadeus – piss off you ignorant fool.
There endeth today’s lesson.
From Bosnich at 10:51 am:
Demonstrating that he is an ignorant fool, yes, as you have just done for yourself.
From Amadeus at 12:38 pm:
You’re a liar to boot.
May God give strength to those who need it in this time.

Where’s the money, then?
And don’t talk about art treasures and architecture.
For sure.
Pope speaks against gun manufacturers.
