Check current worldwide cases – USA 43 per million, Oz 31 per million.
US trend graph almost vertical since March 14th.

What a conundrum. In Aldi’s to get some capsicum, you gotta lick your fingers to open those thin plastic bags.

Can report that the madness seems to have subsided a bit even got some dunny paper 🙂

  3. feelthebern

Government bond markets globally are more orderly today.
The Fed reserve has opened up temporary dollar swap facilities with a lot of central banks, including the RBA.
Takes a lot of pressure of currency markets & government issued paper.
Another tool the RBA is using is ceasing issuing government bonds for the next week at least.
This means that anyone expecting to bid into primary issues will now be forced to buy from the market.
    2 very small sounding things.
Hopefully we’ll see corporate bonds recover something this evening.
The big one is oil, we need an ongoing rally to take the pressure off high yield debt markets.

  4. The Beer Whisperer

    They’re coming for cash.

    Get it while you can.

Grabbing cash is a great big FU to the elites. Time for an ATM pit stop.

It’s pretty clear our UNiparty Govt full of self indulgent traitors wants no part of sanctioning the Asian shop strippers. Because votes. Or those shipping dozens of pallets daily in baby food to export while our fucking shelves stay empty. Because donations.

    We are on our own.

The elephant in the room, SloMo?

  6. struth

Well here we are at still six dead in Australia.

The countries and states like Victoria, run by commos and following Chicom orders, seem to be the ones pumping out doomsday scenarios while we just can’t seem to get people to die.
    How very inconvenient.
I’m sure if it reaches ten victims, dunny paper will be gold with all those shitting themselves.

Seeing it is now painfully obvious that this is an MSM, in bed with Chinese Communists, massive beat up , let’s talk about rights and responsibilities.
Because Australians aren’t acting like responsible adults and are shitting themselves everywhere, we’ve lost more rights.
    And freedoms.
We now have Sco Mo bringing on the destruction of Australia , categorically stating that he won’t stop China buying our folding companies (caused by him and his UNiparty filth anyway) while he has basically erected an iron curtain around Australia, and doing all he can do to wreck the joint.

I ask you scummy , MSM fooled arse wipes to stop panicking.
You actually have a duty as an adult to fucking stop it.
Stop repeating MSM reports, reports by Marxist government departments, reports from groups looking for funding from this and realise this is a war, an info war against the west and it’s resurgence under Trump.
The powers and their resources are well capable of this and we know it’s just a flu.

Our PM is a traitor and his actions prove it.

And every hour that passes most of you are working out that I have been right all along.

Now, how do we get our freedoms back?

Socialist control always rides in on the back of an emergency…………….
They’re doing it for our own good you know!

Rowville Woolworths overrun by 2 teams of people buying up all the Toddler Formula.. I was aisle wandering and noticed these 3, neither having a baby between them. They were literally bounding to and from buying 3x3x3 tins at a time, then coming straight back in the store..

Let’s call it what it is….the Chinese virus.

  20. Some History

    This time from Sadbeak Khan.

Sadiq Khan: ‘Covid-19 Is Not a Chinese Virus’, Trump ‘Disgraceful’

London mayor Sadiq Khan has complained that it is “disgraceful” to refer to the Wuhan coronavirus as “Chinese”, insisting it is a “global virus”.
“Covid-19 is Covid-19,” Khan declared to the London Assembly following a question from Unmesh Desai, who like the Mayor is a member of Jeremy Corbyn’s Labour Party.
“It is not a Chinese virus, and to use words like that are disgraceful [sic], and is the sort of language that leads to incitement and hatred towards people of Chinese origin,” he alleged.
“We are a city that celebrates our diversity and we think it is a strength, not a weakness, and it’s really important that we don’t follow into the trap of some to use this virus as an excuse to denigrate, demean, and dehumanise people,” he continued.
“And what’s really important is if we see people picked on, discriminated against, because of this virus, we act to stand with them in solidarity — but also the police will continue to have a zero-tolerance approach towards any form of hate crime,” he threatened.
“[W]e need a global response to this global virus, coming together rather than using this as another excuse to divide communities and divide countries and divide nations and divide ethnicities,” he insisted.

  24. Overburdened

This sojourn has taught me that the internet is only good to post a thought on this site safe in the knowledge that no one gives a shit, what with trying to be relevant and all, and then get back off the grid.
It’s not a case of being like Midas’ barber who told his secret into a hole in the ground or like the Roman slaves who would whisper into the victorious Generals’ ears something along the lines of remember you are mortal.
    It is pure selfishness.

  25. feelthebern

Only 17% of the people on the Diamond Princess got coronavirus.
    With a 1% mortality rate.
With that concentrated amount of people.
With that amount of oldies on board.

Why would you shut down a country?

What did you expect? The US usually has more than 8 times the number of tourists arriving on it shores than Australia, not including how many Americans go in and out.

That the numbers are so close together, is staggering, and not in a bad way for the US.

  27. feelthebern

Well here we are at still six dead in Australia.

    It’s up to 7 now.
The latest one was an 80+ year old who was connected to the 3 from the same nursing home that keeled over.
    7 dead in 2 months.
    Only one under 80.
4 from the same cluster (the Ryde nursing home).
    What a fucking beat up.

It’s a funny old world. Here we are, awash with cameras. People take photos of their dinner and post it for goodness sake.

Yet we seem to have only verbal reports of our mystery shoppers. Has anything, apart from Costco blue singlet man, been posted on social media to identify the culprits in the act?

  29. Some History

Oh, yeah! The Democraps would love that. A grand idea from Dillary Fenton:

Coronavirus: Hillary Clinton Calls to ‘Make Voting by Mail the Norm’ in 2020

Former Democratic Party presidential nominee Hillary Clinton called on Congress to “make voting by mail the norm” with “free postage” as a result of public health concerns due to the ongoing coronavirus outbreak.

On the good news front, still no infections in Papua New Guinea! They truly lead the world in health care.

    Malaria actually:

Some COVID-19 vs. Malaria Numbers: Countries with Malaria have Virtually no Coronavirus Cases Reported (18 Mar)

    Top 40 Malaria countries:
212.24 malaria per thousand = 0.2 COVID-19 cases per million

    Next 40 Malaria countries:
7.30 malaria per thousand = 10.1 COVID-19 cases per million

    Remaining 154 (non-)Malaria countries:
0.00 malaria per thousand = 68.7 COVID-19 cases per million

Add that to the finding that chloroquine appears to stop Wubug in its tracks and you have a very interesting story. Not sure what the story means or what its ending will be but.

I am relishing this bit of time to be here.

The same revisionism was employed when HIV wiped out the blokes with haemophilia because the homosexuals would not refrain from giving blood because they felt it was discriminatory against them because they are just like everyone else.

Except of course for a disease that they acted as a vector for so that it is now endemic in the community, and took the lives of people requiring fractionated blood products.

There goes a genocide with no attribution for you.

I know I have mentioned this before.

Italy is a one belt one road bought and wholly owned subsidiary of the Chinese communists.
    FACT.
It ALWAYS has way more deaths in flu seasons every year than any other country in Europe because of it’s culture and extremely elderly population.
    FACT.

Their hospitals aren’t modern and their culture is often emotional to the point of not being coherent in a crisis.
The stories coming out of Italy are at best exaggerated at worst pure fiction and with it’s Chinese control, should be completely disregarded.
    Iran is also Chinese owned.
The MSM never talk of age of victims and are also just repeating Chinese propaganda talking points.
On this, and six deaths here at the time, Sco Mo shuts down the country and puts up an Iron Curtain.

Love the way we’re all taking it so calmly!!

Taiwan has accused the World Health Organization of failing to communicate an early warning about transmission of the coronavirus between humans, slowing the global response to the pandemic.

Health officials in Taipei said they alerted the WHO at the end of December about the risk of human-to-human transmission of the new virus but said its concerns were not passed on to other countries.

Taiwan is excluded from the WHO because China, which claims it as part of its territory, demands that third countries and international bodies do not treat it in any way that resembles how independent states are treated.

The WHO’s relationship with China has been criticised in the past, with some accusing the organisation of overly praising Beijing’s handling of the coronavirus outbreak despite allegations local officials had initially covered it up.

Taiwan said its doctors had heard from mainland colleagues that medical staff were getting ill — a sign of human-to-human transmission. Taipei officials said they reported this to both International Health Regulations (IHR), a WHO framework for exchange of epidemic prevention and response data between 196 countries, and Chinese health authorities on December 31.

Taiwanese government officials told the Financial Times the warning was not shared with other countries.

Calli, Geelong Campbells Cash & Carry. On Wednesday. 4 x Chinese – 3 x men and a woman. I was in there to buy sanitary stuff for the wife. Not much there. These Chinese ‘shoppers” were on and off the phone, and 2 of them had tablets they were tapping away at. Bloke arrives at Sugar. Counts what was there. Makes a call. 2 minutes later, receives a call. loads up 100% of the sugar that was left. A few minutes later him and another bloke take all the Pal dog food cans left. Big trolleys – loaded up and out to the bloke parked up with the rental Pantech. Asked the lady at the check out — down from Melbourne. Been down for 3 x days. Stripped the joint. It was astounding to watch. But, like everybody else in the shop – I just lined up and paid and shook my head and grinned.

I have a ritual when I get back to my camp.

When I first get back I take a photo of the beach, go for a naked swim and then have a fire (a small one if it is warm, a big one if it is cold) into which I quietly and slowly toss in the windfall and other relics of the contract I have gathered while there.

If I drive I usually have a pile of windfall. When it’s fifo as this contract is, it’s only a few token sticks.

The first wave over my head washes me clean, and as I watch the fire and ponder how I could have been better and reflect on any good I have done I look at the sparks coming up from the fire.

If I look closely enough I see the contract disappear and I am home.

That local business owners are turning away anyone who doesn’t live locally, speaks to the truth of these rumours. Normally they’d be scrambling for business in the country. They are turning away paying customers, as a result of their experiences. They are paying for security guards and extra staff to check IDs. The proof is in the pudding.

I’ve spoken to a wide variety of a supermarket workers and owners of small food businesses (admittedly only from my local township), and I’ve spoken to residents from a much wider area. One of the checkout workers deleted photos, in fear of their job, before story came to the attention of the media. A regretful decision, but some others have circulated on FB.

These are not just rumours, but it doesn’t really matter who believes it or not. Rationing for desirable items has been introduced in most stores. That, and public awareness of the practice, appears to have put a dent in their modus operandi. Things are improving.

    7 deaths.
    All over 70 years old.
I think the reference to 700 cases were those who actually fell ill.
The number of positive tests was much higher (possibly over 2,000 from memory), due to people testing positive but exhibiting no symptoms whatsoever.
So the death rate is inflated if you only compare deaths to those showing symptoms.

The problem is that the politicians are terrified of being labelled as the ones who allowed so many to die because they weren’t prepared to wear the economic pain of a close down. By going for the close down they win either way because they can argue they stopped thousands of deaths which is a non-falsifiable argument that gives them an easy out. The other factor is that the world economy was already in a parlous state so they escape any responsibility for stuffing that up. They kill two birds with one stone.

There was a pointed example last night. Someone – sorry, can’t remember who – mentioned China and/or Chinese with a quick apology in case that was racist. Very telling. We’re being conditioned, by accusation and faux shame, to suspend normal conversation and adopt UNthink.

Wish I hadn’t reread 1984 a few months ago. Very scary.

I had a conversation yesterday with a young person and I said that this virus emanated from China…which is a fact. Well the person got very irate and said…oh no…no…we can’t be racist. I responded in a big loud voice…”that it is a virus from China and that stating the truth is not being racist….it doesn’t mean that I hate Chinese people…I DON’T…but I do blame the Chinese communist totalitarian government”. Well it shut down the conversation and the person didn’t say anything more.

I really think that so many young people are just now progressive zombies….they have their heads stuck in concrete.

If you have closed borders and a return of White Australia Policy, plus a UBI and a tariff-centred tax system as has been called for in this thread by others, the similarities with Mao’s China will be too multifarious to ignore.

Ah, like Labor in the first half of the 20thC, eh M0nty?

What a nice way to build loyalty.

And my Iranian pharmacist (female, sans headscarf) kept some Ventolin for me when stocks started running low.

Why is the media concentrating on boo hoos in the hospitality industry?

The New Broom has reported five cancelled contracts and another cohort of ones wanting to put works on hold. It’s just like after 9/11.

At least he took over with money in the bank.

Healthcare and life expectancy are not related.

Citing the WHO and Wikipedia is a very good way to lose an argument.

The Italian healthy system is renowned in Europe as a piece of shit.

  206. JC

We don’t know if the Italian death toll is large or small because we don’t know the number of fucking people who have the China bug there. You can only do that with a random testing of the population and so far no one bothered to do this in any country, which as the Stanford prof suggested, this is astonishing.

  207. Delta A

I responded in a big loud voice…”that it is a virus from China and that stating the truth is not being racist….it doesn’t mean that I hate Chinese people…I DON’T

Cassie, someone posted upthread a Trump presser where a young woman asked him if “Chinese food” is a racist term, Chinese food coming, as it does, from China. The answer, of course, was no, not racist.

Clever young woman then steered Trump to say that “Chinese virus” is not a racist term, either, since the virus originated in Chine.

This is all we need to say: Chinese food, Chinese virus. No apology.

It may be that the biggest danger is PFO if overindulging in the loot.

As for the risks posed by French Restaurant dining, I think the finger of opprobrium will always be pointed at the hipster backpacker Eurotrash taking work from honest Aussies who are too busy pulling cones and playing Keno, and not wearing a mandatory hair net.

I had a chat with my GP onthe lower Northern Beached yesterday. He mentioned he has tested 10 people included one guy who he swore that he had the virus-recently returned from North America high fever, dry cough, looked like shit. Took several swabs to be sure but when the results came back he didn’t have it nor did any of the others.

On the other hand one of his doctor contacts from down Campbelltown way said they tested 200 people and 10 had the virus. They may well have been linked to the Stanwell Tops cluster.

Said it was a pain in the arse testing as he had to put on the protective gear, do the test then take it off. Said it took 30 minutes.

One of my friends in Broome, recently returned from Asia came down with the symptoms and had himself tested. Came back clear after only 2 days which isn’t bad for Broome.

My only experience of Italian healthcare is a positive one.

Most docs there are glorified nurses. I have a cousin who was Australian born, didn’t have the marks to be accepted at an Australian medical school and went to Italy where the entrance for any course is basically proof of life. Ironically, she now practices here as an emergency doc at a major Melbourne hospital. I wouldn’t go within 50 miles of her. I reckon it’s getting a little like that here too. Two of wifey’s nieces (sisters) got into med school because they came from the country and were sheilas. A twofer.

Yesterday the manager (of Indian heritage) at my local Foodworks saved me some beef mince whilst I went to my exercise class.

Also..I only go to my local family run pharmacy…where I keep my scripts and where they know me. I don’t go to Chemist Warehouse or similar….there is no way my local pharmacy…run by the same people for over twenty years…would sell fifty Ventolins.

The ‘mentioning China is wacist’ meme is logically absurd.

Are ethnic Chinese from other parts of the world, born and living outside China, Chinese or not?

As I and others have mentioned the vast majority of ‘Chinese’ from places like Malaysia and Vietnam (not to mention Taiwan) detest the reds. Are they Chinese or not? Even in Australia we have ethnic Chinese who have no connection, other than their appearance, with mainland China. None. Their families have been here for generations.

It is abundantly clear that referring to a disease based on its point of origin is a long standing practice, and does not reflect on the general population of that place. It’s just a handy way of naming things.

Most of us have acquaintances, friends, relatives, or work collegues who are ethnic Chinese. The way we respond to them has a lot to do with whether or not they have links to the PRC, not to their appearance.

I am on good terms with the proprietor of my mall’s coffee bar, and a more dedicated capitalist would be hard to find. I don’t know where he comes from (he is not a native Aussie) and it would be rude to ask. But he works like a beast, seven days a week, and gives great service, and flogs the often useless staff foisted on him by relatives unmercifully to do the same. 🙂

Because of that, it is business as usual for him. Perhaps one or two morons are boycotting his business, but there is no visible change.

It has nothing to do with racism against ethnic Chinese. Nothing at all.

Oh, and I really feel for that couple who got married at the resort in Stanwell Tops whose guests are now testing positive. They, and the resort owners, are completely innocent, but they have been plastered all over the media, poor buggers.

    Life isn’t fair.

Diane Feinstein cleared out her portfolio too.

Congress have made it perfectly legal for themselves to do insider trading, but illegal for everyone else, although enforcement is highly selective.

It’s very hypocritical, but one of those open secrets that’s been around for quite a while. You never hear that come up as a question in any televised debate though. Powerful people do powerful things, then wring hands and pretend to care about the poor, or minorities or some special interest group.

Look, if you’re like really really sick, pay the dolls and head to the US. In choosing a doc, make sure they’re from one of the prestigious schools and it’s a white male because there’s no fucking around with any affirmative action bullshit. They got into med school on their smarts and not because of their skin color or they squat on a toilet if taking a leak.

Based on practical experience, the best advice would be for every sensible person to fuck off out of there and send all arrivals there to deal with the indigs, crocs, snakes and desert.
