Light relief, climate alarmists stuck in the ice again

Lightning has struck again, this time in the Arctic.

German AWI research vessel gets stuck in the Arctic: “Two-year drift ice too thick”

The climatologists at the Alfred Wegener Institute (AWI) are involuntarily stuck in thick pack ice, while two sister ships are waiting in a fjord near Spitsbergen. Let’s see how long this is going to take.

The German icebreaker and research vessel ‘ Polarstern ‘ has been on a MOSAIC research expedition of 140 million euros through the Central Arctic since the beginning of October 2019

Promo for the expedition. Embark on the largest polar expedition in history: in September 2019, the German research icebreaker Polarstern has set sail from Tromsø, Norway, to spend a year drifting through the Arctic Ocean – trapped in ice.

The goal of the MOSAiC expedition is to take the closest look ever at the Arctic as the epicenter of global warming and to gain fundamental insights that are key to better understand global climate change. Hundreds of researchers from 20 countries are involved in this exceptional endeavour. Following in the footsteps of Fridtjof Nansen’s ground-breaking expedition with his wooden sailing ship Fram in 1893-1896, the MOSAiC expedition will bring a modern research icebreaker close to the north pole for a full year including for the first time in polar winter. The data gathered will be used by scientists around the globe to take climate research to a completely new level. Led by atmospheric scientist Markus Rex, and co-led by Klaus Dethloff and Matthew Shupe, MOSAiC is spearheaded by Alfred Wegener Institute, Helmholtz Centre for Polar and Marine Research (AWI).

    Fun! Did they miss the virus?

  2. They really do appear to be taking climate research to ‘completely new level’. Maybe they should be looking for icebergs in the Atlantic.

    “Maybe they should be looking for icebergs in the Atlantic.”

    At night, with their radar switched off.

    Back in the good old climate wars days I postulated that the reason that the Arctic ice cap was shrinking was because all the science and sightseeing Icebreaker cruises broke up the ice and te Arctic Gyre flushes it out.

    They are still at it!

  5. Climate science automatically attributes year to year decline in sea ice to AGW climate change apparently without the need for carrying out a test for that causation. This kind of confirmation bias is common in climate science research.

    If they had bothered to do the math they would have found that the assumed evidence for causation of sea ice melt by AGW is not found in the data.

    Second year running the average high and low temperatures in my neck of the woods has dropped. But for global warming my place’d be frozen over by now. Average highs and lows are:
    2017-18: High = 19.5, Low = 9.7.
    2018-19: High = 19.3; Low = 9.5
    2019-20: High = 18.4; Low = 9.3
    Method:
    BOM daily high and low;
    sum of highs for year, sum of lows for year;
    divide each sum by number of days.

    I’m still waiting for the North West passage to open.

    The envirofascists keep promising us that all the ice will melt, and then they go get stuck. Every. Damned. Year.

    I’m sure the burgeoning polar bear population up that way will at least be happy to have some variety in their diet- Seal is soooo fatty after all…

    And it’s only fair they get some entertainment- The penguins have had all the fun with the idiot humans up until now.

    “German AWI research vessel gets stuck in the Arctic: “Two-year drift ice too thick”

    Are you sure its not stuck in all of those dead and dying bodies of polar bears? You know – all those polar bears that the climate change cultists are claiming to be dying from global climate change………………

    As I was searching for warming air,
    I saw some ice that wasn’t there.
    It wasn’t there again today,
    I wish, I wish it would go away.

    Hahahahaha! They can’t possibly have proof-read that bit!

    Mark M gets the gold star from me.
