We urgently need a Royal Commission into the ABC

From Wikipedia: “Royal commissions are called to look into matters of great importance and usually controversy. These can be matters such as government structure, the treatment of minorities, events of considerable public concern or economic questions.”

Things have gone beyond tolerable. Picked this up today on the letters page at The Australian:

It’s pretty clear that the US riots sparked by the death of George Floyd have been hijacked by radical groups. US Attorney-General William Barr has sheeted much of the violence home to Antifa and its bunch of hard-left radicals. Far right groups are believed to be in the mix, too.

Listening to the ABC on Sunday you’d be in no doubt as to where the ABC came down on infiltration and mob violence: it’s almost entirely the work of the far right. The ABC interviewed one Andy Fleming, described as an “anti-fascist researcher”. He described the involvement of far right groups in the riots. Prompted on the involvement of Antifa and the left, he was strangely reticent.

Bemused by Fleming’s stance, I did a quick search and found out that there’s a little more to Fleming than the ABC suggested.

It seems that mystery man Fleming is “an Australian anarcho-communist journalist, academic and activist”. It’s pretty poor form that the ABC didn’t inform listeners of Fleming’s allegiances.

The ABC no longer represents anything other than a small smattering of far-left ignoramuses. Virtually no one any longer turns to the ABC for news, current events, documentaries or entertainment. It is a divisive institution filled with far-left ideologues which no longer serves any social purpose. It is a national embarrassment.

Make them justify their existence in front of a Royal Commission, if they can, which I doubt. And if they can’t, wind the place up.

As for Andy Fleming, this is what it says on Wikipedia, at least right now, until they try to hide the evidence:

Andy Fleming, also known as Slackbastard, is the pseudonym of an Australian anarcho-communist journalist, academic, and activist, known for his study of far-right parties and movements in Australia.[1][2] He has written for Guardian AustraliaNew Matilda, and the Overland journal.[1][3][4]

Fleming’s blog Slackbastard has reportedly received 7.5 million views since its foundation in 2005.[5] He has studied nationalist groups such as the United Patriots Front and Reclaim Australia.[6][7]

His use of politically motivated doxxing has been criticised as a form of political violence.[8] Despite attempts to identity Fleming, they [sic] currently remain anonymous.[9]

We urgently need a government that will shut down the ABC.

There must be more activists studying the “far right” in Australia than there are actual far rightists.

Either that or “far right” is a label of convenience for the many hatreds of the activists.
    Perish the thought.

I said to someone on this site a few weeks back that in this day and age, everyone to the right of Stalin and Mao (however slightly) is a conservative, as far as the leftwing establishment is concerned.

In their eagerness to invent foes to destroy, we can just as easily be dubbed ‘far-‘ or ‘alt-right,’ and the legions of the faithful and the apparatus of the state deployed in force to crush us.

Pity all who just want to live and let live.

Howard could have done it, he had both the house and the senate. Little bastard took away our guns and signed up to Kyoto instead; and then later on gave us turdball.

Without the abc the twin abominations of alarmism and renewables would have been still born and we would not have the 32nd nations grievance industry costing this country $billions every year. The abc really is an evil place.

Don’t forget the ABC’s failed hit job on Fraser Anning, which also had as its mysterious source one Andy Fleming.

Let’s not overlook the role of the ABC Four Corners in killing the live beef trade to Indonesia. With the court case resolved in favour of the exporters, it will be our hard earned $$ going to reparations. There needs to be an investigation into the ABC to determine the extent of lies reported in that hatchet job and their journalists’ culpability. Another failed hit job?

I call semantics, but only slightly. No challenge from me.

Wake up Australia – an organisation that openly says kill all males, people who run businesses are exploiting people, good looking booby females are not allayed to get paid wearing a swim suit in public without being attacked yet fuglies get naked in public for environmental causes, real skilled job are ridiculed eg trades while professional amendicats eg charities ages are booming, productive industries mining agriculture building manufacture are ridiculed, openly racists, openly laugh at the victims of murder, openly wanting to close down sporting clubs, openly encourage people to break into people’s homes, encourage the bashing of people and the trashing of personal property, opening ridiculing people who disagree with them , the lies oh the lies this is USSR at its best – difference with the abc is they do not know what they do – so they are stupid.
Why is it actors and musos can earn 100 million yet gre local trade who owns his home and has $750k in super has been ripping people off.

The SMH has a lover of Antifa – Anti Fascist – called Mark Bray (they don’t publish his CV), with a puff piece showing that it is a benevolent organisation fighting right wing extremists and their leader (anti-christ), Trump. Together with their regular TDSer, Matthew Knott, they are doing their best to rival the ABC in painting Trump as evil in every which way. What do they and the “Democrats”, really want for the US? Is $24,000 refrigerator – filled with ice cream, Nancy and senile Joe going to save the nation? From what? If they prevail, the US and the non-Chinese world are lost.

    To put it slightly differently:

Just as well we’re all in this together………… Will now go and jump off handy nearby bridge.

    Good point. Conservative == Nazi

  19. Old Surfie

I remember a few years ago a caller on ABC radio was having a go at Fran Kelly about the lack of conservative commentators. Fran denied this, saying they had Amanda Vanstone. I think at the time Amanda had about a 30 minute slot, once a week!
I rarely watch or listen to the ABC these days despite being rusted on 30 years ago. Midday ABC tv news yesterday had some Yank bloke on for at least 6-7 minutes absolutely bagging Trump – there were no alternate views.
Today’s ABC is vastly removed from the one I grew up with. I would say it is now very biased and left wing in its views and largely caters to the minorities in our society.

  20. Mother Lode

Trust the ABC to know people in all the lowest places.

To find them they only need open the window.

  21. Mother Lode

As far as the ABC is concerned, Antifa can’t be bad because they are against fascists as they are.

And fascists are by definition of the right. That is the crime.

Leaving aside the fact that the historical fascists – who must be the holotype for the word defining the concept for successive uses – far more resemble communist states than anyone they accuse of it now, they are happy to ignore the street thuggery and exploitation of events (Reichstag fire anyone?) and see it as somehow permissable because they think it is not fascist.

They are truly at ease with the violence and destruction when they think it is in their cause. All revolutions have bloodshed, comrade.

And those soy-steeped blabbermouths, who are completely immersed in a closed but shared universe like gaudily costumed adolescents playing Dungeons and Dragons in their parents’ basement, have absolutely no conception of how they would fare if they were forced to make their way in the real world which races and swirls giddily around the outside of their cocoon, which it has done long before they were born and will long after they cease to be.

We have seriously the most mediocre elite intellectual class that has possibly ever existed.

  22. Mother Lode

Not even a message about being in moderation.

Comment simply dissolved into the ether.

  23. Dave of Reedy Creek, Qld.

Their AlpBC is just one body that continually does this “sneering at America” caper, the Australian and all leftist rags do the same thing, there is rarely a balanced article on the President (as if it’s our business anyway). Just the usual bagging and Trump Derangement Syndrome based articles. Hey, maybe we should stop bagging the US and start remembering what they did for Australia in World War 2 and what they would do for us again. Maybe the Leftists/Communists/Marxists know this and it is really the reason why they want to break down our ties with the US. After all we would be totally helpless in the face of hostile aggression and they know it. Why on earth would anyone with a brain not understand why the universities in this country are indoctrinating the young with socialism (Communism in a cloak) if its not to destroy us eventually.

A good exercise is to watch the ABC news on telly with the kids, or the wife, and just quietly say “opinion” whenever a blatantly made-up bit of subjective crap is pushed at us. It focuses the mind on how often an ALPBC sub will declaim “In an attempt to silence critics” or “The besieged PM”, about happenings half a world away about which they have f-all insight. Or spotting adverbs is another good one, although there is contention as to whether “extreme far-right populist” is a clutch of descriptors or a sort of happy-place mantra that gets put up like a windshield.
Alan Kohler is always fun. “The market plunged in response to…” …oh did it really? And why no thoughts- ever- on the last three years’ market growth?

    Agree with everyone you wrote.

I don’t know what others think…but I am heartily sick and tired of spineless, supine Liberal politicians saying that “they admire much of what the ABC does”…..it is like their prayer or preface whenever they are asked questions about ABC bias or some predictable ABC outrage…like the infamous Q&A episode last year (and it wasn’t the first time that Q&A had descended into squalor)…..the Libs are gutless…the only politicians who do call our the ABC are PHON ones.

What about the 55 part series on the Trump-Russia fairytale?

Well the payout to cattle farmers shut down by Gillard and Ludwig (remember it was his father that helped get Gillard top job) and the fact that even more than were in the class action can apply for reparation, Government are going to have an enormous bill. Maybe now the ABC will lose some of their billion pay

  32. Graham

The ABC cannot be reformed. It can be shut down or defunded. No government with the balls to do that has ever been elected. You can however refuse to watch, read or listen to it, whilst continuing to despise it and the weak politicians (shout out to Paul Fletcher) who won’t do anything about it.

  33. Old Surfie

I think it would be very difficult for the average person to get a job with the ABC these days – you would have to fit a certain type that is seen as being politically correct. There is obviously a bias in the selection of their reporters/presenters these days. Quite a noticeable increase in non European types, effeminate males, gays and other “different” folk. That butch bird on Landline that tries to look like bloke is a real turn off – the presenter Pip is not bad though! She looks like a normal woman as I used to remember them.

It would be fitting if their c. $1.25Bn p.a. budget were curtailed proportionately to the total Federal compensation payout.

weak politicians (shout out to Paul Fletcher) who won’t do anything about it.

Liberal politicians protest that it is the Government’s official News outlet for Policy releases, etc. – a spineless crock, one only has to look at the CV-19 App Ads broadcast on all the Commercials ad nauseam.

  37. Des Deskperson

‘I think it would be very difficult for the average person to get a job with the ABC these days – you would have to fit a certain type that is seen as being politically correct.’

Apart from the lower-level grunts, techies and middle management adminos, the selection criteria and processes for ABC staff – particularly those that you see and hear – as well as their employment arrangements and of course their salaries and perks, are opaque.

This ought to be unacceptable in any budget funded Commonwealth agency.

  38. MACK

A big source of ABC bias is omission, especially on their television news. For example, Victorians who watch only ABC news would not know that (Herald Sun): “One of Premier Daniel Andrews’ electorate office staff has links to the Chinese Communist Party and recently posted a video on social media suggesting the coronavirus was created by the US. Nancy Yang, who once worked in the Chinese consulate in Melbourne, has been working for Labor Party MPs since 2013. The Herald Sun has confirmed Ms Yang is working in the Premier’s Mulgrave electorate office one day a week. She also works in the office of backbencher Meng Tak, having previously been a staffer to former Clarinda MP Hong Lim. She also founded and chaired a Melbourne-based United Front-linked group and is a committee member of the Chinese Community Council of Australia Victorian branch.”

And the Belt and Road rarely gets a mention on the ABC.

And when reporting the legal judgement against the shut-down of the live cattle trade, the ABC did not mention Julia Gillard by name at all.

    They are rabid.

  39. Old Surfie

I do a bit of tour guiding in my retirement. I had a couple one day who were lefty, ex “educators” – also had a ABC journalist as well. Over lunch, I made the statement that I don’t watch or listen much to the ABC anymore due to their bias. I obviously hit a raw nerve there as I got howled down by all three. The rest of the tour that afternoon was rather subdued as I think their opinion of me was rather low by then! Surprisingly, the lefty male “educator” was the brother of a very well known Australian conservative and ex military figure. His departing remark to me was “my brother would agree with you”. I couldn’t believe how two blokes from the same family were obviously like chalk and cheese.

“The mayor later acknowledged the majority of arrests so far have been of Minnesota residents.

Leggat, the security consultant, said intelligence reports from his colleagues indicate most of the hard-core protesters in Minneapolis are far-left or anarchists, and that far-right groups have not yet made a significant appearance. He said looting is typically done by locals – usually people with no criminal record who just get caught up in the moment.”
