In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.

One verse that is hopefully unaffected, and another angle for Shelly, perhaps.

Just to add something to other good advice to Shelley above – a mental life needs to be balanced with a healthy physical one. I have a friend who’s a mathematician, every so often his brain gets stuck in a loop with a problem, and he has a breakdown. He rings the crisis team and gets told to hop in a warm bath immediately, stop worrying and just feel the warmth on your skin. That’s also pretty much what ‘mindfulness’ says, and the ancient Greeks, and the traditional British education system which balanced study with football and cricket.

If things get too much, have a nice meal, warm bath, glass of wine, go for a walk in a relaxing place, what ever works for you to restore balance.

In a weeks time, these protests will be ancient history.

Dude, news moves so quickly these days. It’s faster than light speed.

We used to say when something was old hat… that’s so 2017, so 2019. That’s now condescend to, it’s so April, so May. It will soon get to.. it’s so 2 June.

  5. calli

    What virus?

    The economy eating one.

  6. Arnost

I loves 2020. It’s my favorite year yet.

OK OK – you’re making a motza. So – with all these riots, and businesses being essentially put out of business temporarily, why are the markets so buoyant?

  7. min

If you are feeling down write down the triggers and then what are you thinking . Usually thinking will be full of cognitive distortions sprinkled with words such as never , always, CBT Beck
Or look for opinions or facts logical or illogical thinking shoulds and musts a as per Albert Ellis REBT .
    Further help by googling either

Also, this is the longest April Fool’s Day on record.

    It has become quite sinister.

  12. DrBeauGan

DrBeau, it isn’t “hysteria”. It’s observation and a sense of being unable to do anything about it. This is how people’s morale is slowly ground down.

Yes it is hysteria. And it’s dreadful to discover you’re getting got at too. You’re an honorary bloke, for heaven’s sake.

If you have a reasonable chance of eating next week, a warm dry place to sleep, and nobody going to come at you with a bigger knife than yours, you’re winning. Facing up to the worst thing that can happen to you and figuring out how to deal with it is what you do, not getting upset by other people’s problems. Mitch is right. There’s nothing much new going on really. China is a far smaller threat than either Nazi Germany or Stalin’s Soviet Union, and we saw both of them off. Yes, the enemy is within, but they are very stupid and not at all imaginative. Yes, we have to think about how to solve our problems, but getting depressed doesn’t help. Good healthy exercise, and sod the Karens. Read Wodehouse and the Bee. Yes there is massive stupidity about and a certain amount of malice and madness, but there always has been. But the afflicted are to be laughed at or pitied, not taken seriously.

Dude, trading wise I’m roasting it. Asset wise.. that is.. my investment portfolio.. is down like everyone else. I thought I had 3ish years supply of cashola I made from trading, but I forgot to take out (assume out) the fucking tax. In my trading account I don’t even get the capital gain discount. I made a little more money of late, but after tax I’m estimating I have about 2 years supply of cash to live okay. There won’t be any dividends to speak of for the next couple of years I think or at least I’m not counting it.

The busiest pre-lockdown train was the 17.11 Sutton to Luton which carried an average of 1,579 passengers.
The class of train is 2.8 metres wide, so a person could sit either side of the aisle, maintaining correct distance, just.
The train would have to be 1600 metres long, to meet pre-WuWog capacity. The 8 carriages used on the route are 162 metres long, so 80 carriages would be needed.

How do people here stop from spiraling into a near depression about it.

It’s an oldie but a goody, Shelley:

God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference.

Right now, we are facing an onslaught of challenges that we cannot change through physical intervention: it would be dangerous and foolhardy to rock up to these protests and start imploring rationality. But we can do our bit by lobbying MPs, writing to the papers, pointing out the hypocrisy that locks us inside while protesters are congregating in numbers.

And yes, avoid social media: the Karens (male and female) will pile on with righteous vengeance. Also, avoid – if you can – rabid lefties. Their agenda is to harass you into their way of thinking. In short, protect yourself as much as you can.

Finally, encourage strong men (we have a plethora here) to maintain the fight: Cardimona and his eloquent pen, Custard (who stepped out of his comfort zone to contest an election), Tailgunner (his report of the recent Melbourne protests was gripping), Arky, Winston… too many to list. (Yes, we have strong women, too – Tinta also sought change through election – but it’s mainly men who are instrumental in wreaking this havoc, and it will be mainly men who stop them.)

And if all else fails, we will fall back on the Metamucil Militia, now that Dear Leader Leigh Lowe has been restored to us.

I presume the US market is expecting a massive internal infrastructure spend [more govt/free money]? Possible. But all this and the COVID borrowing on the never/never liquidity into the economy must eventually devalue the USD big time. [And looking at history it is usually in a rapid / black swan type event]. And so the US stock (internationally exposed) owners will take a hit. You looking at this? If you’re trading on non-fundamentals, got the gamma risk exposure covered?

Wull my granma’s Irish granma came out steerage from Cork in 1840 something (round the Cape in those days, on deck all day), aged about 14. Only prospect on arrival was to go into ‘service’ on arrival then marry as soon as possible. Did so, got a patch of land to squat on, failed to monetise it per regulations, ended up back in Sydney with her daughter running a boardinghouse, went blind. Such is life.

Just realised she probably had to learn to speak English on the way out. Gave her something to do to pass the time I suppose.

The great state of Victoria…from The Oz…

“Police refuse to enforce social distancing at Floyd protest

Victoria Police will not issue fines for breaches of social distancing at a solidarity protest in Melbourne over the death of George Floyd in the US, despite fearing the event spread of coronavirus.

On Wednesday night, more than 30,000 people had registered interest in attending the event outside state parliament on Saturday, which has been organised by the Aboriginal community in response to the “Black Lives Matter” movement.

The death of 46-year-old unarmed black man George Floyd in Minnesota last week, after a white police officer knelt on his neck for nearly nine minutes, has sparked violent protests around the world.

Victoria Police Assistant Commissioner Luke Cornelius said police were respected people’s rights to protest, but would have preferred the action be postponed until after the COVID-19 pandemic has passed.

He urged those planning to attend to follow public health directions on social distancing to prevent any more coronavirus infections.

“As I understand, what’s planned on Saturday would amount to the largest mass gathering since the Chief Health Officer’s directions came into force,” Mr Cornelius said.

“Saturday presents as a real potential tipping point. It would be terrible to think that as a result of a large gathering, the most vulnerable people in our community … might, as a result of that gathering, be exposed to the virus.”

Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews said outgoing Victoria Police Chief Commissioner Graham Ashton and his successor Shane Patton had told him they would not enforce social distancing fines at the protest because it was “not feasible”.

“That’s a decision that Victoria Police has made,” Mr Andrews said, adding the decision had not been made by Police Minister Lisa Neville.

Mr Andrews urged those attending to keep the peace.

“If it’s not peaceful, then it is not a protest. It is something very different, and Victoria Police will not hesitate to maintain order,” Mr Andrews said.

“What we’ve seen happen in the United States is a tragedy, and it speaks to many of the differences between our society and the society in the United States.”

Well…whilst we’re talking about “differences”…just imagine if a right-wing or conservative group tried to organise a rally in Victoria……just imagine.

What’s moving shit in the US , causing everyone to cower at their might is the Fed. The fucking Fed has added something like 35% of this year’s GDP as liquidity into the markets. They’re even buying dance chits at NYC strip joints.

    More news out of Yarragrad.

Leftist “Christian” pastor tries to warn Christians about QAnon:

The Danger of Conspiracy Theories according to Colossians

Conspiracy theories are never far from the public imagination. In the midst of a turbulent event or changing culture, rumours and speculations emerge which attempt to offer an explanation. Conspiracy theories don’t rely on accessible knowledge, reasoned argument, and evidence, but rather, they join the hidden dots that allegedly lay behind the scenes.

What is QAnon and why is it dangerous?

Two weeks ago The Atlantic published a disturbing piece, The Prophecies of Q: American Conspiracy Theories entering a dangerous new phase. Written by Adrienne LaFrance, this is a lengthy and detailed description of the short history of QAnon. Q is an anonymous figure who began posting messages on the internet in October 2017. The messages are cryptic and relate to current socio-political dramas in the United States. These online notes suggest a world of intrigue that is taking place behind the scenes against President Trump by the so called ‘deep state’. For those interested, in addition to LaFrance’s article, Joe Carter has written an important summary of QAnon on The Gospel Coalition. Marc-André Argentino’s piece for The Conversation is another informative article.

At the time of reading The Atlantic’s exposé, I sent out this tweet.

“In light of the growing proliferation of nutty conspiracy theories, I’m pleased that we’re currently studying Colossians at Church. Colossians presents a clear repudiation of gnosis. Christians are to be people of reason not speculation, love not fear”.

In case I had doubt as to whether QAnon was a thing, within minutes I had people replying to the tweet, espousing QAnon ideas and carrying QAnon references on the twitter bios. Somewhat ironically, they have since deleted their comments and disappeared in the dark web once more. What was interesting about the comments are these 3 points: 1. They referenced belonging to a chapter of QAnon in Australia, 2. They used Christian language/categories, 3. They obviously exist.

The connection between QAnon and ‘Christianity’ (I stress the inverted commas here) became highly visible when Joe Carter wrote his article for TGC. Many comments were made by people who identify with QAnon. It is quite astonishing and concerning.

QAnon is connected to misinformation campaigns on COVID-19, suggesting it is a hoax, and also offering miracle cures for the pandemic.

Do you think the Cafeteria Christians are running scared?

How do people here stop from spiraling into a near depression about it.

Imagine how Trump must feel, especially at this time.

That walk to the church and raising the Bible like that seemed to be the action of a heavily burdened man. Think of the many disappointing cucks and cowards he has had to fire and the sludge through which he trudges daily as he deals with people like Pelosi and Schiff. He’s a positive, and energetic person but he seems disarmed and a bit crestfallen when things don’t work out. He’ll be getting all sorts of conflicting recommendations at the moment.

  129. Tim Neilson

I have been trying to get something actioned by Westpac for the last four months that’s essential for running my business (involves insurance).

Any transaction where that starts happening you just have to escalate it to the top of their complaints department straight away.
If it hasn’t been done after a few polite (or impolite) requests, that means that for some reason it can’t be done solely by entering data into their computers, but requires a human being to make a decision.
And there’s virtually no human being at any of the four majors that’s willing to do that.
So it just gets put to the bottom of the pile. The people you’re dealing with don’t even have the initiative to escalate it within the bank themselves to get it off their desks, in case that’s seen as an exercise of judgment. They’re just carbon-based data entry machines.

  130. Tim Neilson

He’ll be getting all sorts of conflicting recommendations at the moment.

Leftism seems to be very much a rich and clever man’s game. The innate contradictions fascinate me, as most (if not all) leftist arguments are predicated on emotion, and the ultimate outcome of leftist thinking is both penury and death.

It’s almost as if they think that being clever will automatically put them amongst the apparatchiks or the nomenklatura when the revolution comes. Whereas the rest of us know that just puts them a little bit behind the rest of us reactionaries, undesirables and unrevolutionary nuisances in the queue for the Wall…

    This:

People of privilege like to have their cake and eat it too. Only the bourgeoisie could feel so entitled that they would be the proponent and demographical enemy of something at the same time. Marxism has never existed in practice. In the end, it is peasants with rifles who determine what exactly Marxism is. What you get at best is Animal Farm, which is the reality of Marxism as opposed to some utopian fairy tale. It also causes brain drain. Why can’t people see that the “dissenters” are quite frequently your most talented, driven, and useful people? The only realistic equality Marxism could create is most everyone having not much of anything. This is why a peasant majority is so crucial to any Marxist movement, such as the Pol Pot model, which was basically force everyone to be peasants regardless of talent, intelligence, education, or motivation. It doesn’t work. It will never work. If you are an educated, successful American Marxist, remind yourself that a Marxist soldier would define you by what you have to “redistribute” as opposed to any bullshit coming out of your mouth. The working class interpretation of Marx is little more than a license to murder and steal from anybody who has substantially more than you. Read Animal Farm and get over this Marxist folly.

It’s true that there’s no racism on the street in Cuba. I never went near the ruling class, so I don’t know about them.

I’ve spent more time in the US than in Cuba, and I encountered a very small amount of racism there. All of it from blacks. A black guy at my aikido class told us that his black friends wanted him to stop coming and mixing with us whites. I told him: “They aren’t your friends.”

I stopped outside Central park once to listen to a black guy preaching racism to a sad little crowd. He had half a dozen small blokes in uniform with him. I was the only Caucasian there, and I made him and his soldiers obviously uncomfortable, but they didn’t do anything. And I got turned away from a laundromat once for having the wrong colour skin. The poor woman in charge was scared there’d be trouble if the locals saw me there. But I’ve never met any black hating red necks.

I also met a student in Oz who complained that one of her lecturers was Indian. Once, in a good many years. Those who claim there’s lots of racism in Oz or in the US are wrong. It’s garbage.

Rex, re your earlier comment- it sort of explains why so many lefties seem like Edwardian snobs. They really hate manufacturers, miners and farmers. Like Stalin hated the Kulaks and Clinton hates the delplorables.

    FMD, what a quim

WSFM host Jonesy called for support for the Black Lives Matter movement
He previously cried on air discussing the ‘guilt’ he felt at being a white Aussie
With co-host Amanda Keller, they discussed the different way races are treated
Jonesy said white people never have to fear police in the way black people do
He said the same applies to Aboriginal people, who have also been victims

    Biden speech today.

  184. Rex Anger

@ Miltonf- We never really had an aristocratic class here in Oz. But there is an attitude of superiority that entrenches in people who have something or have something more relative to the others around them.

I’m sure some anthropologist or sociologist has come up with a name for it. As a Believer, I know it as the sin nature. It’s just there, as innate as life itself. You cannot breed it out, stamp it out or train it out.

    Such is life…

  185. stackja

Nick – Next radio rating will show if listeners agree. Jones may be safe for a while, as radio ratings are suspended because of the virus.

IT. Had some Standish. Very, very nice. A poor man’s Hill of Grace for a fraction of the price

I think it’s better wine and would certainly rather 8 bottles of Standish than 1 HofG.

Rex, Sydney’s North Shore was a hotbed of such attitudes.

Must admit I gave up on Fordham this morning

Same here. The guy should have got rid of his afternoon lead in music and all reference to Alan Jones and start a fresh, keep thinking it’s the afternoon show on in the morning.

The more expensive the houses, the snottier the peopleseem to be. Sad l, really.

Having said that, I once had a very fun time playing “Spot the Holden” in Mosman once during a lunch break while I was on a gig at Garden Island. It was a weekday, so not as many Maseratis and Beemers about as one might expect.

We pulled by the beach briefly, to see if we could spot any White Pointers. This did not last very long- Young soldiers in uniform are very obvious when seen in public…

Good advice above, Shelley, about a good walk, a hot bath and a glass of wine. The Angelic Doctor, St Thomas Aquinas, would agree.

A consoling thought. When anything started to go wrong, my father in law, a British army veteran from WWII, would just take a deep breath and say “Oh well, worse things happen at sea”.

That woman is smart, accurate with the data and totally courageous. The absolute incoherence of the snivelling protesters trying to counter the excellent points she made was telling. When they were unable to engage like adults they did what any good racist would do and completely ignored the black woman and her clearly expressed point of view. Because they know better.

“Judd said there were rumblings on social media that rioters planned to bring violence into the neighborhoods of Polk County.

“I would tell them, if you value your life, they probably shouldn’t do that in Polk County. Because the people of Polk County like guns, they have guns, I encourage them to own guns, and they’re going to be in their homes tonight with their guns loaded, and if you try to break into their homes to steal, to set fires, I’m highly recommending they blow you back out of the house with their guns. So, leave the community alone,” Judd said.

Biden is going to George Floyd’s funeral and so the question becomes will Trump go.
If Trump goes, he will be targeted as a hypocrite , and if he doesn’t he will be shot down in flames after the funeral as well. Either way the death of the fellow is not important to the Dems. It is bringing down Trump.

He should go with his wife though. It is probably the correct thing to do, no matter what circumstances?

Why the hell would the President of the United States go to the funeral of some fucking criminal scrote who spent his time rooting poor black girls for money, died in a gutter off his head on drugs and was the cause of the worst riots in fifty years?

  233. Infidel Tiger King

Trump can’t go to the funeral.

A lovely post Delta A. True to the core, esp in regard to Custard and Tinta. Talk is easy. These two went further. They fought, and in my eyes they achieved by making a stand, which to me makes them winners.
They stepped up to the plate.
Who knows how many were inspired by them to make similar stands in the future?

  237. That alleged p0rn career hasn’t been confirmed.

Total agreement on that one, sending Jarad and Ivanka makes a lot more sense.

because he was cheating on his gay crossdressing lover Chauvin with women
