PLUS THIS: I was going to add that I thought this was the best speech Donald Trump has ever given, but thought I would see what others said first. I am not alone on this. You might have a look at this comments thread at Instapundit. These are the first four under the heading of “best”.

Trump gave them Hell tonight. I honestly have been depressed by all the COVID crap and antifa crap and the inevitablity of the enemies of freedom. Trump removed all that with a speech and I feel better. Wow, what a president.

In theory, Presidential elections are about competing visions of what America is and what America can or ought to be, as well the personalities of the candidates. Tonight at Mount Rushmore Trump made the 2020 campaign about the idea of America itself. America versus whatever the Democrats think comes after America, because they’ve made it clear they’ve rejected America. And it was the Democrat’s own rioting, pillaging, looting, iconoclastic, BLM/antifa stormtroopers that made that possible.

Well I’ll be damned! I feel a little hope!

Absolutely pitch perfect and immensely inspiring. Really gives me a boost of enthusiasm. And we are going to hear more from Kristi Noem. It’s not inconceivable that she gets elected in 2024 as our first female President.

    Reminds me of the infamous gaffe by Richard Nixon “I am not a crook!” which defined the Watergate “debate” thereafter.

    Obambi was there because he wanted to see how they were going to put his head in there: The would have to carve over Jefferson and Roosevelt for his head – the need Lincoln and Washington to carve his triptych-forming ears.

    If the haters and others captured by PDS want to oppose him, they must line themselves up against all that he has said. That puts them clearly in the anti-USA camp. What a political wedge!

    Furthermore, this President seems to have a knack for mobilising otherwise inert forces within the citizenry to overcome the forces arraigned against the values of “life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.” His speech clearly demonstrates that he understands the depths of the swamp and the true nature of the culture war.

    President Obama talked about hope and change, but this President seems to be able to engender hope and mobilise change towards the ideals which saw the founding of the USA.

Okay, I didn’t know it had two verses either, but I’m not their freaking President. He didn’t even glance at the programme of events. That would require reading something other than a teleprompter.

    And the regret-nothing Republicans still aren’t offering anyone else to vote for. Sad!

    To be fair, in talking about the (ahem) ornate rockfalls of late he made a good point with “No person who remains quiet at the destruction of this resplendent heritage can possibly lead us to a better future.” [56:00] Probably an attempted hit on Biden without naming him, although it fails on that score as Biden has not remained quiet about the issue, and spoke out 4 days ago supporting the preservation of confederate statues strictly within museums and rejected any toppling of the statues of Christopher Columbus, George Washington and Thomas Jefferson. So that’s Donny’s old script not keeping up with the news. But Biden had been mysteriously quiet about the issue up to the 30th. Too quiet, which is why the spirit of Trump’s comment gets a pass even if the letter is wrong.

    It could be argued that the Americans did not enslave the Blacks – they were already slaves when they bought them from the traders who bought them from slavers – who were black.

    I mention this not to somehow mitigate the vile practice. The phraseology makes no difference and persuades no one. We are already revolted the abhorrent practice of keeping other people as chattels.

    But it would be as well to remember that slavery was not a literally black versus white enterprise. There was black versus black as well.
