Jeff Kennett and the mess in Victoria

Both are from Andrew Bolt. Kennett does it so naturally you have to wonder why Michael O’Brien can’t do it. But Kennett understands what’s wrong with Daniel Andrews and beyond that can explain it. Even if CV-84 really is the problem everyone else seems to think it is, that’s no reason for the Opposition to disappear.

Two decades after he left politics, Jeff Kennett is still the de facto leader of the opposition in Victoria – because the faceless incumbent has a profile lower than a snake’s arsehole and a vanilla intellect to match that has no hope of cutting through in the daily rough and tumble of state politics in the socialist republic of Victoriastan.

The Liberal Party believes in nothing except the perks of political power so it keeps vomiting bilge onto the public stage in place of leadership.

In Canberra, Morrison also believes in nothing, but studies the art of retail politics, which is keeping the federal party in the lifestyle to which it has become accustomed.

South Australia just elected an anodyne Liberal Party wart, Stephen Marshall, as its premier after 20 years of Labor Party domination of politics in North Terrace. He he looks every bit a one-termer like Victoria’s Labor-lite clown Ted Ballieu a decade ago.

Campbell Newman flamed out in Queensland like Kennett in Victoria and the Queensland Libs now don’t even have a Morrisonian lust for the perks of power.

They’re led by another anodyne no-hoper who believes in nothing, but wishes on a star that Palacechook’s incompetence will propel her into the red leather. Anything but leadership for the Queensland Libs, for whom Newman, like Kennett, is still de facto opposition leader in the vacuum created by Deb Frecklington.

At least the corruptocrats of the ALP have the rallying cry of socialist revolution to unite them, but the Libs have nothing. They don’t believe in the free market or the rule of law, just weak facsimiles – whatever the green left ruling class will allow them.

Don’t even mention that clown in Hobart. He might as welll be leading the Greens.

Outside of their their comfy downhill skiing in Canberra, the Libs are hopeless losers.

They call NSW Parliament “the bear pit”, for good reason.
No place for the lily livered.

Bob Brown handed the numpty victory from the jaws of defeat.

  5. After Kennett departed, there hasn’t been one Liberal member that has demonstrated anything resembling leadership, confidence or spine for that matter. I hate to say it, but Labor simply demonstrates far more confidence and spine when it comes to politicking, while the Liberals just sit back and quietly whine about everything.

Every opportunity to hammer Labor is lost because not one of them is prepared to call them out and they have had every opportunity under the sun to do so at every election. The COVIC-19 debacle will be another lost opportunity to call out Labor’s ineptitude, because the Liberals will just make little whiny noises about it while Labor makes out that they saved Victoria. I don’t think I’ve heard one word from the Liberals about the Belt and Road scheme. It says everything about the Liberals.

    That was very well put

Anodyne branch stacking for the liberal party.

There are a couple of decent Victorian state liberals.

Will anyone speak out against stage four lockdown?

    As for jobs yeah sure.

I wonder how many Chinese ‘tourists’ are still here on covid visa extensions working in the building industry.

If the Vic Libs were going to take it to Labor they would have done it years ago, when Ballieu bumbled into office they had nothing, the previous years were spent dozing on the benches dreaming of superannuation and holidays. The Ballieu/Napthine era was an embarrassment to the entire Liberal Party. Yet nothing was learned. The current Vic Libs can’t bring themselves to criticise Andrews, they haven’t the guts or intellect to work out how to do it.
Andrews may not survive but Labor is likely to continue in office, unless the Libs can get a big injection of spine, courage and intellect.

  9. cuckoo

Don’t even mention that clown in Hobart. He might as welll be leading the Greens.

One of the first things he said on assuming office was that Tasmania – basically a national park with no noticeable economic activity – needed to do more on climate change.

My psychological assessment of Liberal leaders nice guys but would be better running the local Lions Club o orRotary . Leaders of political parties these days need to Be articulate in in a more direct way eg Kennett says “ a culture of corruption “ rather than a decade of corruption . Advertising talk as against Lawyer talk. i e Use of words , cut through language .
Tim Smith has it but he got slapped down on t.v. for calling chairman Dan as being disrespectful . He stood there and took it . a comeback How respectful of the Victorian people is chairman Dan when he has … and then list the taxpayers money used to get himself elected . Trouble is won’ get asked back in that station.
Andrews sweet talks but is a good at deflecting questions , hides the truth and gets away with it
He won by manipulating election (red shirts) backed by unions who m he has to pay back, also covered by them they have him by the S&Cs over that accident he was involved in .

Indeed we have seen a consensus of political opponents, with no opposition in sight of any cv-1984 decision.
A ‘one government’, the wet dream of the elites.

    Coronavirus Update XXII: Mask Madness

“Please stare hard at this picture: (see link)

This is the number of daily reported coronadoom tests.
This picture should amaze and appall you.
If you are not stunned by this picture, you have not understood it.
    This is not total tests.
This is the number of tests per day, which are growing, growing, growing, rising like mad.

This makes no sense on its face.
Deaths are dropping, the infection is petering out, yet testing continues to soar.
    This is insanity.
Just a couple of days back (on 10 July), there were 823,375 tests in just one 24-hour period! Over 800 thousands tests in just one day!

If you are not astonished, you do not understand.”

Re my last post Some of Labor’s corruption hits the headlines eg branch stacking but average Barry Battler does not pay attention to media unless the latest on their football club or younger ones ,the latest on a pop star . Short term memories . The most successful ad campaign was Kennett’s Guilty Ads short , direct and seen on billboards across the state . when you are in the traffic billboards are in your face all the time.

  13. min

I bet most Cats remember the FCUK ad on the end of freeway .

    https://www.americanthinker.com/blog/2020/07/covid_spikes_might_be_the_result_of_bad_tests.html

In early June, attempting to address demands for expanded testing, the FDA approved antigen and antibody tests for 2019-nCoV, and the Chinese flooded the U.S. with garbage test kits within a couple weeks. The Chinese had already had several test kit scandals, but states and municipalities, panicked for testing, bought them anyway. All but one of the dozen brands of the defective tests tested by U.C. Berkeley showed high false positive rates, and high false negative rates.

In a waning epidemic, false negatives aren’t a problem, but false positives can lead to the appearance of a flare-up, followed by foolhardy public policies, such as shutdown.

It is highly likely that the Chinese sold as “new” the test kits that were rejected in the rest of the world, possibly rebranded. It is a common sales practice of the Chinese to sell brand name rejects as unbranded or off-name items on Alibaba.

Very good and interesting link though two comments on the article, 1, there is a very good a successful treatment called Hydroxycloroquine, zinc and azithromycin.
    2. This is just as bad in the UK

  16. The libs are just incompetent.John Pesutto supposedly a talent stuffed up the postal voting and lost his seat. His opponent a mid 70s retired teacher didn’t campaign and was astonished that he won. He basically saw his election as an opportunity for some tax payer paid travel. The Labor party was canny enough to have him stand in Hawthorn and given his name is the same as Hawthorns most famous coach I suspect some of the electorate was confused.
Nonetheless it should have been a walk up start for the Libs.

  17. cuckoo

Just putting it out there, but my hunch is Andrews will not contest the next election. In fact I’d put a small sum on him dropping out shortly before then.

  18. mareeS

Mental decline in the turgid southern state is ongoing and depressingly irreversible. Some maggot invaded the collective brain there a few generations ago, so that the rest of us in wider Australia now regard them as an alien species.

  19. Tom

Outside of their their comfy downhill skiing in Canberra, the Libs are hopeless losers.

Woops. I failed to mention the childless harridan in Macquarie Street, whose only achievement has been to consolidate the corrupt Photios Greens’ hold on state power in the black hole of NSW politics — by pretending to be the left.

No wonder Mark Latham has been so successful as a One Nation renegade: the state leadership field in the major parties in NSW is vacant — only hacks with the factional numbers may apply.

Across the country, the Libs* have had only two actual state leaders who lead since Henry Bolte — Jeff Kennett and Campbell Newman. The rest were/are just dogs chasing parked cars.

*For obvious reasons, the only other dominant non-Labor leader of the past half-century, Bjelke-Petersen, doesn’t count. Remember when the Nats were a force to be reckoned with and not just doormats for the Libs?

  20. Win

Be fair, Just how do the Libs and Nats .get Them selves heard when the entire MSM unites to have them ‘disappeared “ from public view. Apart from that there seems to Still be a toxic divide between Qld. Libs and Nats.
At an event an ex National party member was vehemently anti Campbell Newman. It almost seems credible that Campbell was ousted by forces within his own government.

  21. sfw

How about a plan like this.
How many ICU beds in Vic? I think there are around 500
How many are occupied at any normal time? Say 250?
What percentage of infections require ICU? Say 10% (probably fewer)
Average length of stay in ICU for virus? Say 10 days (just a guess)
Use those figures to estimate the maximum no of infections that can be handled in ICU and then just try to keep the infection rate under that, sooner rather than later the percentage requiring ICU will decrease just like all epidemics and the number of allowable infections can rise until it just goes away like all these things.
    Would this work?

  22. Lee

The libs are just incompetent.John Pesutto supposedly a talent stuffed up the postal voting and lost his seat

In his case, I say good riddance.
I couldn’t believe his comments before the election he was booted out at; he sounded more left wing than even many Labor pollies.
Victoria seems to have its own version of Michael Photios behind the scenes.

  23. Professor Fred Lenin

What we need is a Populist Nationalist Party to ensure our country’s future for our children and grandchildren . A large group of committed Australians imbued with common sense and life experience prepared to devote time to their society and destroy career politics and self interested political gangs , sorry Parties . Build industries here and prevent communist unionists from destroying jobs.
We need a system of national service for youth to instill patriotism and self esteem .

  24. Tim Neilson

    Would this work?

Yes in every way – except, unfortunately, the only way that the Hunchback cares about – politically. He’d have to admit that the current lockdown had never been a feasible strategy, and he’d rather destroy every last job in the state than do that.

  25. Docket62

Side comment re treatment for COVID. Please Read Malcolm Kendrick’ latest post re Vitamin D – very worthwhile.

As for the Victorian Government – it would seem to me to be an opportunity for a bright young journalist to do some real investigative work and win themselves a pulitzer or two here.

The Government mismanagement is plain for all to see, and that alone will do them in BUT you need to make sure governments are exposed for lying to the public and paring back their power

Start with the numbers being reported as positive and follow up the kits (Which the TGA Site admises are only reliable 50% of the time)
Interview EVERY PERSON – we have these things called ‘phones’ and find out who is asymptomatic.
Interview all hospitalized and find out the actual reason they went to hospital
Interview the doctors who signed the death certificates on EVERY alleged COVID death

We aren’t a big country and surely, surely there is a journalist with some guts

  26. Docket62

but my hunch is Andrews will not contest the next election

Like those before him he’ll step down to ‘spend more time with my family’ after the ‘toll’ this has taken on him.

A more fatuous lickspittle has not graced the ranks of Victorian Labor for some time.

  27. Mustapha Bunn

Docket 62 .. here in the pariah state of Victoria the Deputy Health Officer,Anna Van Demeins Land or whatever her name is,the one who didn’t know the difference between Cook or Philip, has disappeared from our TV screens. Just waiting for it to be announced that she is suffering from PTSD and is retiring from public life on a large indexed pension.

  28. Squirrel

An extended recession/depression might see a bit more genuine talent trying its hand in elected politics rather than corporate and professional politics if job opportunities and remuneration levels in the two latter don’t “bounce back”.

  29. Rohan

The current state of the LNP politicians in Viktoriastan lies squarely at he feet of Michael Kroger. Almost without fail, they are his protégés. Insipid middle management wannabes with zero talent dressed up as leadership material.

His arrogance and lack of political awareness knows no bounds. Well done Kroger, you fucking arse clown.
