Imagine if you will, a virus so deadly, that it has been spreading for 102 days, and no one has noticed.

  2. Terry Pedersen

That is a disappointment. It means that there have been asymptomatic cases, or symptomatic cases who have not been tested, circulating the virus in the community for over 100 days. In either situation it does not augur well for continued recovery in New Zealand.

  3. mundi

“Business as usual should not be an option for the recovery phase. A recent Massey University survey suggests seven out of ten New Zealanders support a green recovery approach.”

Yes folks, no need to go back to your regular jobs and businesses. The government will give you new GREEN jobs and buisness! Utopia here we come!

  4. mundi

    Terry, it doesn’t necessarily.

Remember that when NZ say “no cases” they mean “no community cases”.

NZ have continuously had people entering the country, testing positive and being put in isolation. They claim 0 new cases for 102 days, while all the while they have had dozens of active cases, which they simply don’t count…. because until you are out of quaratine you are not in NZ apparently…

This will just be a repeat of VIC: It will probably have originated from a quarantine failure.

  5. pbw

In the later ABC story, there’s a logarithmic graph of known cases. China has flat-lined at under 100k cases. We think it truly ‘mazing.
However, don’t mention Tai wan. I mentioned Tai wan, but I think I got away with it.

just prior to an election – how conveniant – palace-chook copycat

  7. Stimpson J. Cat

This is what happens when you forget to quarantine the Sheep in New Zealand.

It was only a matter of time.

Imagine if you will, a virus so deadly, that it has been spreading for 102 days, and no one has noticed.

    Frightening!

  9. nb

Imagine a country so willing to destroy its economy. Meanwhile Sweden is having a lovely time. Dark days for NZ, but I guess they will continue to vote for penury. What is the attraction of poverty?

  10. HT

There is about to be world shortage of “Smug” as NZ supplies dry up.

  11. Rebel with cause

NZers seem to love a good hard lockdown as much as Victorians. Kinky bastards.

  12. Hay Stockard

Some people will be unkind enough to have a horse laugh over this.

  13. Sinclair Davidson

Election must be very close. NZ government had had to manufacture a COVID crisis after 102 days.

  14. Damon

Election. Either a COVID crisis or another massacre.

  15. Papachango

Political leanings aside let’s be fair to Wonder Woman. I call her this because many of my contemporaries believe she can do no wrong, and has some sort of superpower….

Wonder Woman did a much, much better job than Comrade Dan of containing the virus and basically successfully prosecuting a virus elimination strategy. Full marks to WW for not stuffing up incoming traveler quarantine, and for not letting covid positive people go out into the community, like Comrade Dan’s people did.

But the trouble with such an elimination strategy is that it’s just delaying the inevitable … as can be seen today. sooner or later you’ll get a second, third, fourth wave etc and will have to kill the economy each time…

Lets have another wellbeing budget that will fix everything

  17. stackja

NZ PM JA one crisis after another.

  18. Nob

Every Australian lefty of my acquaintance, and family for that matter, have been backward somersaulting through logical hoops trying to praise Dan and Jacinda and Anastasia while excoriating Scotty (from marketing lol).

It will be interesting to see how they deal with this one.

Maybe Sinclair is right and she’s managing data release so she can have a (inevitable in my view) crisis now and emerge triumphant at election time.

  19. Beachcomber

Just to be clear. The Ardern regime in NZ has shutdown the economy and imposed totalitarian police-state controls because of four “positive” test results in an RNA PCR procedure. Even if these results are not false-positives or deliberately manufactured, the test procedure itself is scientifically meaningless and not fit for purpose.
Sinclair and others are correct. This is a manufactured crisis. Covid-1984 is all about politics, vicious Leftist totalitarian politics.

  20. Beachcomber

It is the same in Australia. The McGowan, Palace-Chook, Berjiklian etc. regimes and their Ministry of Truth media will manufacture “cases” and ramp up the manufactured crisis when it suits them.

  21. Iain Russell

HT, my thoughts as well. Plus the Kiwi stampedes to the supermarket were a joy to watch!

Yep, both these comments summarise the whole shit show COVID response.

But but but, according to The Project and every second ABC story NZ and Saint Jacinda was a model of beating Covid!!

NZ will now move seamlessly into an example of how no anti COVID measure, no matter how extreme, can be relaxed ever.

  26. rickw

    Dumb strategy meets reality.

  27. Roger

NZ will now move seamlessly into an example of how no anti COVID measure, no matter how extreme, can be relaxed ever.

I joked to my sister-in-law in Melbourne on the phone the other day that the city could be in lockdown for two years.

Now I see Sutton & Andrews are actually contemplating it.

  28. Diogenes

After being lectured continually since late January how well NZ is doing, & how wonderful St Jacinda is in comparison to aaaalllll other world leaders, I could not help feel more than a little schadenfreude (well I did burst out laughing when I saw the news!). I do not wish anybody ill, Dan XiMan and Pieceofshit excepted, and hope that the 4 recover quickly.

    Q. Does this make me a bad person?

  29. John Bayley

Tony Heller hit the nail on the head.

Not that rational reasoning means anything these days.

“‘cos we’re all gonna die, if the government don’t save us!”

    Q. Does this make me a bad person?

If it does, I’ll be proud to join the same club.

BTW, my 87-year old mother-in-law in NZ probably doesn’t have too much time left on this planet, and yet my wife has been unable to go and visit her, having had to cancel her flights earlier this year.

Apparently it is possible request a permit (apparently NZ/AUS are free countries, ha!) to travel ‘on compassionate grounds’, but this is not for a funeral (yet, at least) so the permit may well be denied.

In any case, the wife is not that keen to be stuck in quarantine in NZ for two weeks, and then again in Brisbane for two more weeks, at a total cost of some $7,200 for the privilege of eating motel food, only to possibly not be allowed to see her mother anyway, because it is apparently preferable to have an octogenarian not see her kids than the 0.00001% chance that she’d die of ConVid brought over to NZ by her daughter.

What a time to be alive, eh…

You can bet, however, that Cindy has the NZ election in the bag now.

Beachcomber gets it. And that’s why our target should be the media first. They need to hounded out of the country by any means possible. Their lives must be made hell on earth till they self isolate in some remote part of the world where none can find them or hear them ever again.

The media and any one associated with them must be utterly destroyed!

Add me to you two, but I wish no-one ill.

    Well very few really.

Well maybe more than a few.

    Anyway, I digress.

The world’s greatest emperor without clothes. Hee haw.

Exactly what I thought when first hearing about it last night.

    Thanks, Horse Face!

  35. iamok

And Beachcomber is correct. I’ve been saying this from day one.

Also whether or not the numbers rise or fall it will become a positive narrative for whichever politician delivers the sermon.

  36. Iampeter

You would think the fact that the infection rates just start spiking again when lockdowns are lifted proves how pointless the lockdowns are in the first place.

Alas, we have no one in the mainstream with anything resembling coherent political arguments to oppose this madness.

  37. mem

In Kim Jung Dan’s territory in OZ this story made the H/S online news last night but little to see this morning. In the old days before the covid coup lying to parliament would have required a resignation and a vote of no confidence but we don’t have a sitting parliament anymore it seems.
Good to see we still do have an opposition though https://www.heraldsun.com.au/lifestyle/health/claims-premier-daniel-andrews-lied-as-defence-minister-contradicts-statements-no-adf-support-was-offered-to-victorian-hotel-quarantine/news-story/1e7907388639473817becaa817c77e83

Opposition’s Michael O’Brien said the Premier had been caught out in a lie.

“Premier Daniel Andrews has lied to the Parliament’s Public Accounts and Estimates Committee, which is set up to ensure accountability and transparency,” he said.

“The Andrews Labor Government has lied to parliament and lied to Victorians. It was the Victorian Labor Government’s decision to snub ADF support for hotel quarantine.

“This dishonest attempt to cover up Labor’s hotel quarantine scandal shows that Daniel Andrews is only interested in protecting his miserable government, not in telling the truth.”

  38. Doing what New Zealand has done means they are a small island of virus free individuals in a sea of virus carrying humanity. They do not have herd immunity and will continually be on their guard until a vaccine is found. They will have to fear any incoming people which is a bit unfortunate for a country that depends on tourism! This is but an example fundamental problem.

  39. Professor Fred Lenin

Mike you are right ,hiding doesnt work unless they intend being hermits for ever.usuall avoiding a virus makes your people more likely to have more severe results<compared to those exposed to it who build immunity . But whst would you expect from a woke tosser like arden?

How Bad Is Covid Really? (A Swedish Doctor’s Perspective)

Sebastian Rushworth, Sebastian Rushworth August 9, 2020

Ok, I want to preface this article by stating that it is entirely anecdotal and based on my experience working as a doctor in the emergency room of one of the big hospitals in Stockholm, Sweden, and of living as a citizen in Sweden. As many people know, Sweden is perhaps the country that has taken the most relaxed attitude of any towards the covid pandemic. Unlike other countries, Sweden never went in to complete lockdown. Non-essential businesses have remained open, people have continued to go to cafés and restaurants, children have remained in school, and very few people have bothered with face masks in public.

Sweden – a Winning Strategy – Australia, NZ, America et al – a Losing Strategy

  41. iain russell

Rushworth’s article should be front page news and read out word for word, slowly, on Their ABC.

  42. Rebel with cause

NZ will be the woke equivalent of pygmy tribes in the Amazon. We know they are there but can’t contact them due to risk of disease transmission.

Just leave NZers to play rugger and look after their sheep in peace.

And just like Dan Andrews, Ardern & her vapid government will get re-elected next month.

I mean this is a woman who wore a symbol of female oppression after the Christchurch massacre and her popularity went up.

  46. Chris M

They surely need to do this with other deadly virus infections also like AIDS.

On the plus side economic immigration / fake refugees flow has temporarily ceased.

  47. Lizzi55

Achieving zero cases is technically impossible because the BS covid test will always spew out false positives, therefore restrictions will never end, unless people stop taking the BS covid test.if

Its very simple – if you want your job back, do not take the BS covid test!

There is no public health crisis, and tbe pandemic cannot exist under any definition, because there is simply not enough excess death. This needs to be explained to all pandemic believers. Do you recognize a plastic orange is fake when you see it? Could you spot a fake pandemic?

  48. MPH

You can bet, however, that Cindy has the NZ election in the bag now.

I’m not so sure – she’s gone from at least being successful despite the huge cost to failing and then throwing even more cost. Opportunity for National to differentiate and pivot to ‘We have to live with this, clearly it is impossible to eliminate’.

What is a Stage 3 lockdown for three days supposed to achieve?

  51. duncanm

Australia about to pass Sweden in Covid deaths/million/day
    looky here.

Of course, treating Vic in isolation, they’re already way past that – at about 3.2 deaths/million/day. Rapidly approaching no-lockdown Sweden’s peak of 10 deaths/million/day.

  52. duncanm

Sorry – I err. That above link is aligned by outbreak.

In real time, Australia now has a higher death rate per million than Sweden
    linky.

    Victoria is about 4x that.

The test for viral hubris presumably involves a swab going up a part of the anatomy other than a nostril.
