As I said in other threads, if that’s the way you want to play it: hello to statehood for DC, Puerto Rico and maybe the US Virgin Islands, maybe break a few big blue states up, kill the filibuster, plus a rebalancing of the courts at some level.

    M0nty,

Serious question… how do you think this might actually work? I understand why you would like to see it, I’m just very puzzled as to how you envisage it all (or, frankly, most any part of it… bar the filibuster, which is simply reliant on numbers of course) being possible.

Seems like a lot of sound and fury signifying nothing to me, but I am clearly missing something. Hence the question.

The situation in Victoria is a case of the political-media establishment seeking to humiliate citizens. Think ‘covidiot’ . It’s straight out of the stalinist-maoist playbook. Maybe you learn it in arts at Monash. After all, it used to be called ‘the sewer’ and students used to raise money for the VC.

‘The experienced senior bureaucrats I have worked with would have seen this fustercluck coming a mile off, and taken steps to at least protect themselves.”

True, but what is weird is that some, at least, of these dolts seem, on paper at least, to be experienced senior bureaucrats.

The head of the Victorian Department of Premier and Cabinet, Chris Eccles, was previously Director-General of the NSW Department of Premier and Cabinet. Before that, he was Chief Executive of the South Australian Department of the Premier and Cabinet. Prima facie, he’s had about a decade of experience in managing the most important agency in several state administrations.

A guy with this background should, as Johanna points out, seen it coming and taken steps to manage it. So what’s happened? Is he and has he always been just an over-promoted yes man?

And it would be interesting to know how many of these senior people are members of the Labor Party. The VPS Code of Conduct for Employees requires Public sector employees to ‘make decisions and provide advice that is free of prejudice or favouritism and is based on sound judgement (and) not affected by personal influences’. All Australian public sectors have similar provisions, but Australian public sector employees, even at senior levels, remain free to participate in politics and to join political parties.

It is demoralising reading the news. Some Victorians seem to think anything is justified because “we are so close to end”. What do they think will happen at ‘the end’ – the virus miraculously disappears? It is Stockholm Syndrome on an industrial scale.

  26. vlad

Passion left off when he went to heaven, so where’s the sequel?

Not so, JC. It ended with him coming out of the tomb.

Christ stayed on earth for 40 days after that and Mel Gibson’s first movie covered about four days of his life. So there’s room for ten sequels.

And after that: Acts of the Apostles The Movie.

  59. thefrollickingmole

Oh dear, this is a real thing…..

‘A horror film’: The Comey Rule is a devastating portrayal of Trump

The glossy miniseries looks set to be as divisive as Comey himself. TV critics have complained about its casting and audacious attempt to present contemporary events as history. Democrats are likely to quibble over its sympathetic portrayal of Comey, while Republicans may dismiss it as anti-Trump propaganda from the Hollywood elite..

The drama is based on Comey’s 2018 memoir A Higher Loyalty and explores the former FBI director’s widely criticized oversight of dueling election year investigations: one into Hillary Clinton’s mishandling of emails, the other into contacts between Trump’s campaign and Russia. It then follows Comey’s excruciating interactions with President Trump, culminating in his firing – via cable news – in May 2017.

They are seriously going to pass off ‘Illarys lightening exoneration of allowing secrets to be pilfered from her private server with the years long attempt at derailing Trump and overturning an election.

“What I think about James Comey is he has never once said a word in public that has been proven to be untrue. It’s not like anything he has said has been close to untrue or shaky. You certainly cannot say that about Donald Trump or Michael Flynn or Sarah Huckabee Sanders or Mike Pence or anybody else in that administration. When it comes to truthfulness, I’ll stick with Comey.”

    Wussia, Wussia, Wussia!!!!!!

“The tipping point in that election, the deciding factor, was the infiltration by the Russians. That came directly from James Clapper [ex-director of national intelligence]; that’s not a matter of conjecture; that’s fact. And they’re trying to do it again in 2020.”

The cast also includes Holly Hunter as Deputy Attorney General Sally Yates, Jennifer Ehle as Comey’s wife Patrice, Michael Kelly as Comey’s deputy Andrew McCabe, and Oona Chaplin and Steven Pasquale as FBI agents Lisa Page and Peter Strzok involved in an affair. Kingsley Ben-Adir, a British actor in his mid-30s, plays Barack Obama.

Im sure this wont be a cartoon like parody of “drama” with “dun dun duuunnn”!!! music every time trump comes on screen.

“I believe that ultimately America is going to emerge from this period and we are going to succeed and survive. But what it’s going to require is a rigorous period of self examination where we as a country look at what we just did voluntarily to our democracy for the last four years.”

He added: “We’re going to have to ask ourselves some very hard questions about that. Now, that said, if we re-elect Donald Trump then all bets are off. I don’t actually know what’s going to happen to America and I’m not sure that the American experiment will actually survive it.”

This isn’t a stop Trump tactic, although they will of course do everything to stop him, including civil war if he wins, but they could not risk a resurgent west.
They grabbed what they could before they couldn’t.

No matter if you are in Victoria or in Britain or in South Australia, these western governments, with their slavish allegiance to the UN and the belief in the importance of themselves on the only world stage they know, and care about, (think of it like UN applied Peer group pressure for state leaders), they have put their peoples under tyranny to save face with each other, and that is enough of a reason.
There’d been a good 60 years of slow cultural Marxism forced on the west, and this one man’s election forced their hand.

Not to worry; potential sponsors are lining up according top RA’s press release.

    No broadcast deal.

    But they’re lining up nonetheless.

According to mOnster and Googlery the broadcast deal was going to be a a cash-shower for RA and the Vicar of Rugby was going to be beating the broadcasters off.

The Simple Algorithm That Ants Use to Build Bridges

Army ants form colonies of millions yet have no permanent home. They march through the jungle each night in search of new foraging ground. Along the way they perform logistical feats that would make a four-star general proud, including building bridges with their own bodies.

To see how this unfolds, take the perspective of an ant on the march. When it comes to a gap in its path, it slows down. The rest of the colony, still barreling along at 12 centimeters per second, comes trampling over its back. At this point, two simple rules kick in.

The first tells the ant that when it feels other ants walking on its back, it should freeze. “As long as someone walks over you, you stay put,” Garnier said.

This same process repeats in the other ants: They step over the first ant, but — uh-oh — the gap is still there, so the next ant in line slows, gets trampled and freezes in place. In this way, the ants build a bridge long enough to span whatever gap is in front of them. The trailing ants in the colony then walk over it.

The Night They Drove Old Melbourne Down:

    Fuhrer Dan is his name
And he stuffed this Australian state
    When hotel quarantine came
    And lockdowns returned again

In the winter of this past year
There was no footy and no tap beer
Yet by April we had beaten the bug
But hotel security then pushed us under a bus

The night they drove old Melbourne down
And the public servants were preening
The night they drove old Melbourne down
And the health officials were screening
They went, “Na, na, na, na, na, na”
    na, na, you’re in lockdown.

Back with my wife in Werribbee
When one day she said to me
    “Davo, come here, quick,
    There’s that Dan the F-wit!”

Now, I don’t mind to do my share
And I don’t care if the money’s not fair
But locking up people all day long
While the pollies swan around, well, that’s plain wrong

The night they drove old Melbourne down
    And the pollies were singing
The night they drove old Melbourne down
And all the bugmen were cheering

They went, “Na, na, na, na, na, na”
Na, na, na, na, There’s no-one outside

    Like my good mate, Johno
    We like a can
And like my best friend Robbo,
We said we’ll make a stand

We were just three blokes not great or brave
But the state’s bands of black shirts were out on brigade
We stood at the end of the street with all around
But you can’t raise up freedom again when it’s in the ground

The night they drove old Melbourne down
    And the pollies were preening
The night they drove old Melbourne down
And the public servants were screening
They went, “Na, na, la, na, na, la”
    Na na na na

The night they drove old Melbourne down
And all the coppers were fining
The night they drove old Melbourne down
    And the families were crying
They went, “Na, na, la, na, na, la”
    Na na na na,

He’s about 103 years old now and looks like Rupert’s twin brother. If he was working today he would be Abilio Acosta in the White House Press assembly hall, baiting hard working and dedicated members of the elected President’s staff.

I saw an advertisement showing he is on tonight with that ABC This Day Tonight (?) chickie – the one with the pasty coloured blotchy fat arms – who makes a living bagging the tripe out of people with real jobs while never having had one herself. He is addressing his depression about the USA and its coming demise under Donald Trump, relying on information he has that the White House is disfunctional. If his fabulously credible objectively minded spies had told him the White House was ticking along like a Swiss watch he would have found some other invented reason to find Donald Trump guilty.

Looks like Xi is expanding his already expansive control over China by gripping the private sector. Almost like he was channeling Mao and preparing for war.

From the Asia Times Financial article-

According to the new provisions, private firms will need a certain amount of CCP registered employees, which is already a long-term practise in large private firms but not smaller ones.

These cadres will make sure businesses follow the guiding ideology “Guided by Xi Jinping’s Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era.”

They will also guide private business people to enhance the latest CCP catchphrases – “four consciousnesses”, strengthen the “four self-confidences”, and achieve the “two safeguards.”

Duties of cadres will include the duties of strengthening ideological guidance, guiding private economic figures to increase their awareness of self-discipline, build a strong line of ideological and moral defence, strictly regulate their own words and deeds, cultivate a healthy lifestyle, and create a good public image.

They will also need to continuously improve law abidance and moral standards of private citizens.

  172. Somewhere in Fiasco Quarantino there must be three contracts – executed by an authorised officer under some form of delegation. Hard to imagine the security contractors mobilising without one.

Presumably within the Victorian Public Service there is an authorisation process and some sort of register of agreements detailing why, who, when, what and how.

There must be, correct. Something like SAP, where delegated authority signs off on the Order depending on the contract value with full records of the approval tree as it passes through the approvals process. It’s ludicrous for these cretins to suggest a $40 odd million contract was let on the basis of a verbal. The vendor would have received a PO with the contract to start with. A decent accountant would get to the bottom of it in an hour or so . Fmd.

Don’t be so sure of those points, fellow Cats.

1/. Actually it is very believable that security contractors & others mobilised without a contract.
2/. It is ludicrous that a $40 million contract was let on the basis of a verbal, that does not mean it did not happen that way.
3/. The Vendor would have received a Purchase Order? In eleventy eleven years of providing (often significant) service to government, I’ve never once seen or heard of a purchase order. Never has one been proffered. Likewise for when government provides a commercial service to me, they flatly refuse to sign a contract. Never have they asked for a “purchase order”

There are the woke Hollwood actors. Then, there are those like Jim Caviezel. He has been giving some really powerful interviews.

During an interview with Shannon Bream at Fox News about his new movie, Infidel, Jim Caviezel calls out priests and bishops who have failed to speak-out in the face of the Cancel Culture, calling them “Judases, Pontus Pilates or Pharisees.” “If you can’t tell the difference between a priest, a bishop and a politician, this is really sad. This is called lukewarmness. And Christ has a very special place for them.”

I guess you prefer the jobs for diversity and helping the unemployed approach adopted by VIC for hotel quarantine. ADF in hotels would not have been so casual with their duties as hired yesterday security guards. I have no problem with the military being used to supplement local police. As in one cop and one soldier visiting a home to ensure complying with self isolation or manning a roadblock to assist police. However also happy to see ADF being withdrawn from Qld border as the lockdown gone on too long.

For some reason it’s disgusting that Dan didn’t use the army to control the people of Australia. They are disgusted that the military weren’t brought in to control us.

Not staff from the Federal department of health, the border force or others, but the Australian population WANT the military, the army to control them and consider it a problem if it doesn’t happen.
    Fuck this country.

    Makka,
Plus how did somebody decide to award Unified Security (the Indigenous one) twice the work of the other tow companies combined. An article yesterday also indicated Unified got paid more per guard despite not being approved like the other two companies. How does that even happen ? Something very dodgy or just somebody wanting to be able to say in their annual report how much helped Indigenous employment ? Never mind the fact most employed were not indigenous.

I didn’t see that Brett but no surprises. I’ve said from the beginning, the contracts were never about the efficacy of the quarantine. It was only about making money changing hands, as much of it as possible. That’s one reason why VikPol and ADF were not given the job. No money to be exchanged there.

Two wrongs don’t make a right.

The Feds should be in charge of all quarantining full stop.
    As per the constitution.
State cops have no right to have any part in it.

The forces that the feds should use for Quarantining are border force type departments, Australian quarantine officers, etc, not the ADF on private citizens as it is a slippery slope from there, and they then lose all credibility and support being used with cops like Vicpol and assisting in their tyrannical behaviour.
The military should never be used to control the civilian population, they are there to defend it.

Oh what a wicked web we weave when first we practice to……totally ignore the constitution.

    Steve at the pub,

Admittedly it was several working lifetimes ago, but not one of the 100’s (possibly/probably 1000’s) of cars that I sold to government was done without both a purchase order AND contract number.

A leading health union is calling on Daniel Andrews to sack his “clueless” Health Minister Jenny Mikakos, accusing her of “breathtaking incompetence”.

Ahead of the embattled health minister’s appearance at the hotel quarantine inquiry on Thursday, Health Workers Union boss Diana Asmar has begged the Premier to demand Ms Mikakos’s resignation.

“For the good of your government, for the good of health workers I represent, and for the good of all Victorians, Ms Mikakos must go,” she wrote in a letter to Mr Andrews on Wednesday.

She said that in all the union’s dealings with the health minister, “not once has she displayed even a basic understanding of her portfolio.”

The 16,000 strong union, which represents hospital and aged-care workers, has been battling the government over inadequate supplies of protective equipment for its members.

But now it has declared war on the Andrews Government over its decision to rebuild the Frankston Hospital as a public-private partnership, saying it will campaign against the Labor Party at the next election.

“In Victoria, aged care cleaners, admin workers and cooks have acquired covid, as have registered nurses and patient care workers,” Ms Asmar wrote, “yet aged care workers are treated differently with respect to accessing sufficient levels” of protective equipment.

I’m thinking, along with The Bank, of Joan Baez, who also recorded the same song – gee, she also recorded Me and Bobby McGee; Charlie Daniels – The Devil went down to Georgia; Paul Simon – Graceland, just to name a few.

The military should never be used to control the civilian population, they are there to defend it.

There’s a reason you separate military and the police. One fights the enemies of the state, the other serves and protects the people. When the military becomes both, then the enemies of the state tend to become the people.
