Leftism As Illness Or What Happens When The Thrill Is Gone

 
THE question is often asked: are contemporary Western leftists mentally ill? In a manner of speaking, certainly they are. The epicentre of their illness, however, isn’t the brain or cerebral wiring but the spirit. The estimable Ace recently posted an interesting essay arguing that a generation of leftists have made themselves literally sick by refusing to acknowledge the need to overcome their own emotional weaknesses – having possibly never been taught how in their social, educational and familial milieux – preferring to be treated as prideful victims in need of ‘respect’ and ‘safety.’

By not training themselves to accept reality, their nervous/mental constitution can in fact become ratcheted in to a perpetual – usually angry – neuroticism whose chief hallmark is grandiose rejection of objective truth. The more they reject truth – and the more they force culture to reject it – the ‘safer’ they feel. Ask Katy Perry. When broader society or holdout polities persevere with truth, the reaction from leftists is always violence. The utility of George Floyd’s death in Minneapolis was that it encouraged ‘protesters’ to bully Democrat-run jurisdictions to stand down the guardians of the enforceable right over against the unacceptable wrong: namely, the police. The result: multiple homicides and destruction on a vast scale.

Psychologically normal adults know what will happen when men are given the option of being imprisoned with women. The women will be sexually assaulted. By insisting it’s false to believe a male is not a female, Sen. Scott Wiener showcases not passion or tolerance but illness. The marginal psychological utility of successive left-wing campaigns, of course, is diminishing. Or – to put it another way – in veins so accustomed to falsehood, the high from each dosage of ‘progress’ grows less and less satiating. The causes have to become more and more sizably harebrained to compensate. One day they’re wearing an AIDS ribbon and demanding that crossdressers not be harassed; the next they’re gunning down a Republican pedestrian for wearing a MAGA cap and cheering on a transgender ‘woman’ in the boxing ring as he beats a real one senseless.

It just feels like cosmic justice. I’ve got a little spring in my step. Trump has been so lucky for so many years. He’s had every break go his way… Honestly, I hope he suffers a lot. It’s great to see such an evil guy getting an obvious comeuppance.”

– What are the chances the ABC’s Emily Olson would randomly vox pop David Thompson, a radical “Pennsylvania labour organiser” about Donald Trump’s diagnosis? Slim. What are the chances a leftist like him would respond like a lunatic? Better than average.

 
When discussing the phenomenon of pathological leftism it is important to avoid medicalising evil and malice. That, after all, is one of the pet projects of the left itself. Nobody – or, rather, nobody leftists identify with or see as politically useful (Floyd) – is ever responsible for egregious criminal acts. Either their crimes are excusable because of ‘passion’ – “It’s just this war and that lying son of a bitch, Johnson!” – or the culpability-disabling effect of social status, race, gender or sexuality. That’s why I located the illness characteristic of contemporary leftism in the spirit – by which I here mean the existentially self-defining seat of ideas, feelings and attitudes to others, to justice and to life itself.

The man who killed the thrill and triggered a mass psychological episode was, needless to say, Donald Trump. His aggressive contempt for leftism and mockery of it brought out the illness in the left like no other American President ever has before. No, not even Richard Nixon (whose contempt was mostly sotto voce, albeit recorded) or George W. Bush (a pseudo-Texan with a New England patrician’s indifference to culture). The mainstream use of the concept of triggering, by the way, is an admission by leftists of emotional instability. They embrace the idea of themselves as troubled, difficult, inflexible, volatile and ‘special.’ Which brings us inevitably to the most curious feature of this thesis: it’s not even controversial.

    mmmm. When driving out of the airport in Dallas, I saw a sign that read “Happy Estates”. It was a very depressing old person’s home. The sign covered up the lie that was obvious. When I sit with lefties and they discuss the plight of the polar bear, then flip into a chat about their latest holiday in Corfu. Then I went to dinner in a very up-market hotel and my wealthy Indian companions, while gorging down the lobster, talked about how terrible poverty is in India. My conclusion is that for the faux concerned words are not facts they are a cover, a therapy, a bonding. I have never had a single rational talk to a lefty about Trump. They just can’t do it.

    I’d say there’s a mix out there: people who know perfectly well what they are doing, and see ways to take advantage of other people by muddling them up … and other people who are easily led and weak minded who end up getting muddled.

    As to whether confused people should be regarded as insane, that’s a bit of a fine line there. Someone who starts from false axioms will reach false conclusions no matter how carefully they go through the steps in between … it isn’t necessarily a faulty brain in the middle, it’s often that a normal person has been severely misled. For example, there’s a famous declaration:

    We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness.

    That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed.

    It is fairly obvious that “men” was intended in the same way “mankind” is intended and that is to encompass the entire human race. It’s also obvious that “equal” means equal rights, it does not and never did mean exactly and precisely equal in every way. No one in their right mind thinks that all men are exactly the same as all women, or even that any one man is exactly alike any other.

    This “truth” in the declaration is axiomatic. Thomas Jefferson never made an attempt to prove what he declared, he used this axiom as a basis for building the rest of his theory of government. In John Locke’s Second Treatise of Government he explains the same concepts in a similar but subtly different way.

    Man being born, as has been proved, with a title to perfect freedom, and an uncontrouled enjoyment of all the rights and privileges of the law of nature, equally with any other man, or number of men in the world, hath by nature a power, not only to preserve his property, that is, his life, liberty and estate, against the injuries and attempts of other men; but to judge of, and punish the breaches of that law in others, as he is persuaded the offence deserves, even with death itself, in crimes where the heinousness of the fact, in his opinion, requires it.     Locke meant “natural rights” to be exactly what nature gave you: two hands, two feet, muscles, eyes, ears, brain, etc. The right of what he called “political society” are those which involve giving up some of the rights nature gave (i.e. agreeing to restrain yourself) in order to obtain protection and thus “the community comes to be umpire, by settled standing rules” … or in other words a law created by men.

    It’s a simple enough concept … but we don’t see it being taught often. Without that basic axiom, the rest will not follow.

    Confused/misled people grow out of it, those who are borderline insane or the full Monty, usually just descend further into the darkness. Insane is the extreme, but can be any level of mental illness, which is invariably it is. Some can be cured, others not.

    Yes; and that was Adam’s excuse too; he tried to shift the blame for his sin on the woman and by extension on to God himself: “And the man said, The woman whom thou gavest to be with me, she gave me of the tree, and I did eat..” (Genesis 3:12).

    That’s how spiritual sickness works – the avoidance of responsibility for one’s actions and seeking to blame others.

    If you like your Presidents scandal free and without the possibility of being influenced by big corporate donations, but ignore ex-presidents pulling in 6 figure speaking “fees” just after they leave office, you probably have TDS.

    Fascinating, as that is the basis of Islam – the terms marsha’llah, and insha’llah defer to Allah and not to the individual or tribe. Marsha’llah means “Allah has allowed it”. It is said when anything is accomplished by a person. The person must not take credit. Perhaps this is the basis of all surviving religions as it stops society from ripping itself apart. ( of course it doesn’t stop the individual from destroying on behalf of Allah – but that is another story – and perhaps contributes to the survival/expansion of the religion)

    without christian values there is no west, there is no australia, there is only living death, dead souls.
    another way to look at it is that australia will truly become mature when we latecomers have identified fully enough with the original inhabitants. ie when we go thru what they went thru, we will be equal, in the only way that matters: equal in the spirit.
    now that’s what bridging the gap really means.
    its gonna be a rollercoaster, but at least we will have something other than our own vanity to worry about.

The proof of this is that you don’t refer to infertile women and women who needed IVF to conceive as being “men” or “not real women” just because they couldn’t do what most women can do.

    People who don’t believe this have typically explained the high consistency between people’s self-image (gender) and their biology as due to a socially enforced convention based on anatomy rather than the inherited genetic developmental program that actually does it. They claim that someone who says they have ‘transgendered’ i.e. become a female if they are male or vice versa has actually changed their sex. They misuse the term gender to back this up although it was always used synonymously with sex until moronic academics decided to redefine it.
    Bottom line is that no amount of medication, surgery or wishful thinking changes a person’s biological sex. Anyone who genuinely thinks it is possible is as much of a fruitcake as the deluded transgender person.

    It does? What about the physiological changes that occur to both body and brain during puberty – are they instantly and magically undone? We know there are differences in physical brain construction and chemistry that are biologoical in nature and based on chormosonal sex (ie, XX vs XY), and we know this by testing for such effects in non-human higher primates like chimpanzees. It’s real. It exists. Everyone knows it from their own observations – not only do men and women look different, they think differently – even prior to puberty. That is a fact. These are not “good” vs “bad”, they are complimentary and symbiotic – the combination and interaction of the two produces a better outcome than either on it’s own or the two simply added together would do. Which is one reason why sexual reproduction has been an evolutionary success.
    Yet despite the seeming binary nature, we also know from personal experience that there is a continuum, where certain traits traditionally assigned to certain genders appear in everyone at various levels – male aggressiveness, female nurturing and so on are not the same for everyone, and indeed specific individuals may display traits of the “other” to a large degree while suppressing the “normal” trait the genes would suggest. This diversity is a survival trait for any species and is strongly selected for – and thank God for that, as “variety is the spice of life”!
    This diversity of ways of thought – in some part at least, sexual in nature – also spills into politics: the left tends towards the feminine: societal (group) takes on higher importance, protection of the vulnerable, cooperation and so on, while the right tends towards the masculine: self-reliance and individuality, competition and so on. Both taken to the extreme are toxic to civilisations, as history amply demonstrates. We need both, just as we need both sexes. The combination and symbiosis of both is more preferable and objectively better than the dominance of either – sex and politics are intertwined much more deeply than salacious headlines and scandals.

    That was my point also. You could in theory CRISPR a man into a woman in DNA terms but that does not change the masculine body development over the time from conception. The person would still be a man physiologically.

    The other aspect missed by the left in this respect is this: if I dye my skin black and have surgery to make my physiology more like a black person, does that make me black?

    If I did this, would the left celebrate the change and support me, or would they accuse me of cultural aporpriation and other thought crimes and denigrate me? Would GovCo then provide me the same benefits as a “true” black person?

    And if I am not to be supported in this, why not? If I can use technology to change an otherwise immutable aspect of my being (my sex), then why not another (my race)?
    If “finding my true self” is supported by the one and therefor encouraged, why not the other?

    That’s a totally irrelevant distraction squirrel, as the categorical error in the use of the word “man” occurred prior to the word “cannot”.

    You still don’t seem to understand (or refuse to admit you do understand) that the definition of man and woman is objective and genetic, not subjective nor performative.
    Whatever else you say about anatomy doesn’t make the genetic definition go away.
