I’m nervous but hopeful

Stark choices before us ends as follows.

Once at the dinner table, my late mother-in-law (OBM), opined that Adlai Stevenson was divorced and, therefore, had not been fit to lead. Her husband (OBM) sharply replied, “Madam, you recently flew to Israel. Did you ascertain whether or not your pilot was divorced?” She got it right away and laughed uproariously at herself. She was a pip.

Donald J. Trump is piloting us out of the Swamp, away from the existential threat of socialism. He will win next Tuesday. Put your champagne on ice. He will win because Americans will see to it. All the celebrities in Hollywood could scarcely populate a small town in Texas. The NBA and NFL, likewise. Americans value liberty; we will see to our own safety.

There are, unfortunately, all kinds of people who prefer safety to freedom. This I well know since my country of origin took them in as “United Empire Loyalists”. I just hope the descendants of those who stayed behind are numerous enough and resolute enough to maintain the freedoms they fought for then and have defended ever since.

I might add that Adlai Stevenson, Democrat though he was, was to the right of Donald Trump as he is today, not that it matters in the least. And let me suggest you read the whole column.

    OBM?
    Of Blessed Memory, I guess.

I’m resigned to a Biden win, not that what I think makes any difference.

  2. Nob

(but to me, it always means “oil-based mud”)

Sorry, Steve. Though I may share the sentiment, that Powerline rant is a crappy piece of writing. For a serious instalment of word-wrangling, I’m waiting for the final pre-election take from Mark Steyn.

  4. Behind Enemy Lines

That ‘prefer safety to freedom’ jibe is a pretty ordinary reading of United Empire Loyalists, and of Canada as well. One can be very much on the side of the American Revolution and still recognise the many sound reasons why certain Englishmen in the Colonies might remain English.

There’s a plague of carnival barkers and patent medicine men selling safety to the marks at the moment. They’re called the Left. The medicine they are selling is full of arsenic but will cure anything! Especially covid-19 and global warming.

Too few people now have the intellectual skills to see through the lies. That’s because they are no longer taught the skills in the school system, which is now owned top to bottom by the Left. Why would they want to train kids to see through the lies they are telling?

That was a SubPlot on an episode of Happy Days, Mrs. C. voiced the same opinion, Tom Bosley demurred.
Plagiarism by the looks, plus Fake News.

In the context: ? Of Blessed Memory ??

A phrase I have never used, or heard, before.

How effing stupid does one have to be to ASSUME everyone else will readily understand their un-referenced acronym?
It just distracts from, and dilutes, whatever message they intend to relay (and that I agree with).

I agree with Tom, Powerline has always been yellow journalism

It is right to be nervous as there is so much on the line in this election, even more than in 2016.
Be hopeful, as all the sign indicate a significant Trumpslide. His re-election is a near certainty as there are even those who voted for Hillary in 2016 that are voting for Trump this time.
People know this is a defining moment in US history and if the Democrats get in there will be a significant increase in wickedness. The good, the beautiful and the true will triumph.

Nice spray, but we don’t want Bruce.

I got a chuckle out of this bit.

By 1776, people who didn’t want to fight to be free of British tyranny, who were fine with it, moved to Canada. They liked kings and queens and such. That’s why they have the high school graduation picture of Queen Elizabeth on their money. That’s why their national motto is NOT “life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness” but “peace, monitored speech, and no running with scissors.” (I may have part of that wrong…)

  11. A million Americans diagnosed with COVID-19 in the past fortnight, more than a thousand deaths per day, and you think this is about safety versus freedom. SMH.

This is why you are losing. You just don’t get it.

  12. Daily llama

I too think Trump will win, but they’re all loonies. The sleepy lizard is beholden to the commies, and Trump is a nutter. What odds on Vlad and Xi having a chat and deciding “let’s launch a first strike”
Could there ever be a better time?

  13. Harpo

Don’t tell m0nty that 8000 Americans die every day, year in year out. It might overwhelm him.

“A million Americans diagnosed with COVID-19 in the past fortnight, more than a thousand deaths per day, and you think this is about safety versus freedom. SMH.

Lets delve into your use of words. Diagnosed, are you referring to the over use of highly ineffective PCR tests that all of FDA,CDC and TGA will not validate because there is lack of evidence of their efficacy plus reported rates of false positives >90%? Ask yourself the question why are there so many asymptomatic ‘infections’? Its because they aren’t sick and they don’t have an active virus. More than a thousand deaths per day. Now if we use the CDC’s own take on the numbers we would use 6% of 1,000 per day, so 60 per day. Hmm far less than the normal flu numbers in the US. Maybe its the flu but hospitals claim CV because they get more money.

Oh, hang on he gets all this from the SMH Great Reset Times so now we understand. FAKE NEWS. The only pandemic we have today is a Stupid-demic.

  15. SMH in that instance meant shake my head, you idiot.

LOL. (Which means Laugh Out Loud.)

  16. min

Just listened to a podcast of John Anderson with Dr. Albert Mohler covered everything from Critica l Race Theosy as seen by a theologian to why Trump won . He said Trump runs the place like a reality tv show that has upset the conservative Republican elites because they needed to take a giood long look at themselves @and reform and it is the middle-class being left behind that looked to Trump to rescue him.

  17. Zatara

Odd that this supposed spike in reported COVID cases comes immediately before/during the US presidential election.

    Suspicious even.

COVID will vanish from the news like it never happened if Biden is elected.

Every indicator shows Donald the winner…..

Can someone explain how the pundits can say stuff like “the Dems are leading in early voting”etc? How do they get this info?

  20. Judge Dredd

    LOL

Anyone that uses “LOL”, is clearly weak.
Monty – were you really laughing out loud? …no you weren’t. You’re not fooling anyone and you can now go back to wondering why you’re not as successful in business, or with women, as you think you should be.
