There never was a chance that the insipid Freckless was going to win. Silly bint with tickets on herself.

Yup, however they got rid of their Party President who knew that instead. I gurentee they won’t learn from it, be interesting if Freckless does a Helen Clark spewing bile on everyone ecept herself or being gracious. I hope I am wrong on the last point however.

And PHON isn’t going anywhere….just when you think it is dead….it resurfaces. Most PHON voters are Labor voters.

Oh I don’t know about that, I voted for Mark Latham and never voted Labor though I flirted with the Australian Democrats when Janine Haines was their leader. Don Chipp never appealed to me.

Can someone please tell me stridently how wonderfully ruggedly individualistic all Queenslanders are compared to the rest of Australia?

I need to hear some good news.

Well, I am hoping that the Socialist Pony Girl will be vanquished by the ruggedly individualistic Queenssslanders who are are a shining beacon for us insipid Southern poofta-cows.

What a contrast to this time last year, when the paddocks were yellow or bare and the fires were starting to make the news.

It is as lush as the English countryside around here just now. Mind you, that means that the never-ending fight against weeds has hit a new high.

And not just the weeds, the lawn is up around my ankles and may be up to my knees by next weekend.

(Reuters) – The United States set a new all-time high for coronavirus cases confirmed in a single 24-hour period on Friday, reporting just over 100,000 new infections to surpass the record total of 91,000 posted a day earlier, according to a Reuters tally.

The daily caseload of 100,233 is also a world record for the global pandemic, surpassing the 97,894 cases reported by India on a single day in Septembe

And people wonder why Trump is losing.

Shut up you piss taking prick. The overall fatality and case fatality rates are both falling. You’re such a lying grub. When your symptoms worsen please tell us.

  13. johanna

Well clearly the racist homophobe is living proof that fear and loathing lasts a lifetime…because his whole life has been full of stoking fear and loathing.

Cassie, have you ever considered how your hate-filled, bile-spewing rants are exactly what the troll wants? It’s a ritual – every time he posts, there you are, like Pavlov’s dog, popping up with the same old, same old pointless rants. Name-calling, abuse, out you pop like a jack in the box. He controls you.

You have no self control, no rationality, he presses your button and off you go with the same old, same old rants and abuse. Do you cut and paste them?

You achieve nothing except, perhaps, feeling better about yourself and feeding the troll. He loves you. You are his raison d etre.

You change nobody’s mind, but, boy, do you feel virtuous, while being manipulated by a not very bright troll.

    Shame on you.

    I’m an Australian.
UK Labour has issues which have buggerall to do with Oz.

That’s weird. You said you didn’t like racism in politics, but have chosen not to pass comment on a major UK political party having just been found to have breached the Equalities Act in being institutionally anti-s3mitic. I might add, while under the leadership of a man whose worldview is identical to yours.

I’d definitely be up for some introspection under those circumstances.

  23. Crossie

The majority of QLD’ers who can vote are ex-public servants, NGO left overs, Melbourne dystopians, and Sydney property sellers.

Melbournians are not only all over Queensland, they also made up quite a large proportion of Darwin seasonal population. We were on holidays in NT in July ten years ago and checked into the Howard Springs caravan park where we found out most other occupants were from Victoria. Mostly retirees who arrive in March after the wet and go back to Victoria in October/November before the wet sets in again. I expect COVID-19 put a stop to that in a big way.

  24. You have no self control, no rationality, he presses your button and off you go with the same old, same old rants and abuse. Do you cut and paste them?

Until the Liberals and Nationals start to distinguish themselves from Labor…on a variety of issues…whether it be environmental, social and cultural, we will continue to see such poor results for right of centre parties.

What you need to understand is that Socialists/Labor have been infiltrating Conservative parties for years.

Tony Windsor and Rob Oakshott for starters. Then there are ones like Richard Torbay, tied in with Eddie Obeied.

No wonder Trump talks about RINO’s in America. All this stuff came from the Clintons, and how Kevin Rudd came to be in power in Australia. Ground game, grass roots, and all the rest. Very effective stuff. All studied by Aussie political operatives.

Kaysee, I loved the Cat in the Hat and the Mask mantra.

Must remember it verbatim to quote.

We have been watching the Qld election results over dinner. I did not change my dress because it is patterned and our fine sherry must have a high alcohol content, because it dried out fast, leaving me wafting in with simply an alluring scent, or something. Palacechook looks like getting in again but early numbers so far. Some sage on the stage said she speaks to Queenslanders. If that is so, then the average Queenslander must be as thick as two conjoined planks of two by four, but we’ll let that be. I do wonder though where they think the money is going to come from to sustain the ‘local’ tourism boom they seem to think is now going to be endless in the on and off again Covid economy. Especially when the Greens they seem to love so much shut down mining and farming. Make that three planks.

I hope Hairy’s Predict-o-Meter does better for the US election. Similar Covid issues at work, and every piece of the media and other institutions against The Donald. Heroic stands sometimes fail and if the Americans vote for what Palacechook will deliver, Green socialism, then I guess, like Qld, they deserve it. Pity Qld has to pull rest of Australia down with it, due to coal exports diving.

LNP with no balls hasn’t help at all of course.

There are only two words to be said about the troll, and Baldrick said them repeatedly.
Fuck off. Tom says one word: ignore.

Baldrick isn’t here now, and Cassie does sterling work pointing out the troll’s subtle issues.
That’s not ‘virtue seeking’ – that is truth telling, and telling off, using variations on a theme.
A theme Cass grew up with because gas oven deaths weren’t just some sad memory of Sylvia Plath.
Hidden and less hidden anti-Semitism of the left is on the rise, and it has no place here.

Steve Trickler, that video reminded me of a happier time. There we were, for four days after March 9th this year, enjoying ourselves on a delightful cruise heading to Mexico and a few other ports and then into the Panama Canal. The ship was clean and pleasant, the seas calm and the skies were blue, and Hairy and I joined in the Line Dancing classes just as we started to hit a bit of swell. Such fun, dancing in a small crowd rather like the active lot in that video, following the instructor, with very happy passengers, miles away from all of the Covid fears and hysteria that was mounting, going to the ship’s theatre to hear very funny comedians, watch a dance show that was enthusiastic and reasonably well done, and dine with silver service for lunch and dinner. So far away from care with no Covid on board ….. till they dumped us in Mexico due to a protocol just declared … yet even in Mexico we had a good time still, as we did in Miami later, then driving the Florida Keys to Key West, and then flying to stay with the rellies in Louisiana.

I don’t regret for one minute that we did grab a little piece of normality out of this crazy year.

And younger people must do the running. Older heads are mainly advisory.

Trump is a miracle to keep going as he does at 74. Biden at 78ish is clearly incapacitated; minor strokes plus some dementia, I think. I am not inactive either mentally or physically for 78, despite a broken foot, deep-vein thrombosis and now a pulled back muscle – for all of these are recent and on the mend – but I just don’t want responsibility any more. I contemplate my little nestlings through the Jacaranda blossoms looking out to the harbour sparkling Clive’s crushed diamonds and know that the young must carry on just as the seasons and the years do. I will see my children and grandchildren as safe and as informed as I can make them, doing what I can, and that is all.

We are doing some significant renovations again this year. Talking to the two tradies who came to measure up, we got on to politics, the lunacy in Qld, and they agreed. One hesitatingly mentioned the ‘difficult one’ in the US, to test me out, maybe see me launch into an anti-Trump diatribe I suspect (this is Vaucluse which is very wet and green, after all). We’re Trump fans in this house, I said outright.
They were so relieved. They were too, so it turns out. He’s rough around the edges but he gets things done, they said approvingly.

Taiwan only gets overrun by China without massive Chinese losses if the Taiwanese capitulate with little or no fight. If Taiwan decides to fight (which it probably will), we’re looking at an extremely costly and risky campaign for the Chinese. Looking at the disparities between the two countries (population, economic heft, size of military etc) provides a very incomplete picture. The geography of Taiwan makes it very easy to defend. An amphibious invasion will be required, and there are a very small number of sites around the Taiwanese coast that could be used to establish a beachhead capable of allowing the landing and ongoing, reliable supply of an invasion force of sufficient size to overrun the island. Also, a successful amphibious invasion requires a *lot* of everything, including experience in amphibious invasions. China lacks this.

We really don’t know much about how China would fare in this kind of war – China itself doesn’t know. We simply don’t know how good Chinese crews will turn out to be at, say, damage control of their vessels. There’s a very good reason to think they’ll suck at it for a long while before they improve, as effective naval damage control practices are developed through combat experience against determined enemies – that’s when you learn what works and what doesn’t. For obvious reasons, the cost of learning what doesn’t work is very high.

So Chinese victory is far from assured, and the political costs of failure could easily be catastrophic for the regime. The political costs of a sustained, bloody war that would ultimately be victorious (which it would be if the Chinese really committed to victory at any cost) may also be unsustainable.

There are other considerations – an invasion of Taiwan is going to mean a very large chunk of the PLA will be tied down for a year or more. If India decides that would be an opportune moment to settle its border issues with China once and for all, there wouldn’t be a great deal China could do about it. Also, an invasion of Taiwan would spark a massive regional arms race and things like the establishment of formal military alliances between China’s neighbours to deter further Chinese aggression.

In all, an invasion of Taiwan would be an extremely risky venture for China, and it will remain so for many years to come.

Very risky. However , China “re-uniting” with Taiwan may not necessarily involve a full on frontal military invasion, especially with a compliant WH. And a “victory” for the CCP may come in many different colours.

China will undoubtedly make a full blooded move on Taiwan if Biden gets in. They may not get a better opportunity for decades.

It’s true that the longer China talks a big game on Taiwan, the greater the imperative becomes for it to follow through. China is behaving very recklessly at present.

The thing is that if the US does nothing in response to a Chinese invasion of Taiwan, China still gets a mauling on a scale not seen since WW2. Hell, even if the US completely sells out Taiwan, repudiates its commitment to defend the island, cuts off all aid, tells China everything it knows of Taiwan’s capabilities…Taiwan is *still* going to be an extremely tough nut for the Chinese to crack.

Outside the the US, unfortunately much of the world sees the China – Taiwan situation as a very local dispute they would rather not get involved with. Especially if trade is at risk. Sure the UN would condemn blah blah . If a President Biden decided not to allow US intervention in China’s local re-uniting efforts I don’t see others ignoring the huge risks involved and sending in their military against China to protect Taiwan. The key to Taiwan’s security is a supportive WH.

Been at a 70th birthday party but was dropping into the Cat for the election thread. Results show that Covid won it for Labor as looks like quite a few of the older generation went Labor in areas normally LNP. Was expecting Labor win but worse than I thought it would be.

Whilst Frecklinton seems “nice” I could not see anybody in LNP who was the “hit man” going on the offensive. Did not see much of Tim Mander and the so called other potential leader Crisifuli was invisible as far as I was concerned.

Was hoping they would have to rule with Greens which would have made it difficult for them. However now they get to own all that happens and I guess we just wait and see how much the debt grows.

At the function I was at was surprised still no dancing allowed. Apparently still only for weddings and school formals. Several weeks since any community transmission and still can’t dance is not logical if can do it at weddings. Dancing would habe made no difference as if anybody had the virus it still would have got around the 100 people there anyway.

The birthday party was originally supposed to be in May but had to be postponed due to Covid. The birthday girl’s daughter choked up when saying her mum’s sister had died last month and had missed chance to be able to come up in May.

Japan and Vietnam would also be on red alert if China made a move against Taiwan, basically that means they have a chokehold on the SCS and West Pacific generally, after which China would doubtless start settling scores over the Senkaku Islands and god knows what else.

I went down to the local Police Station to try to figure out what our local Bowlo needed to do. The coppers were pretty good about it. They have more conflicting information than we do. In a nutshell, they can’t and won’t enforce it.

You have a constant stream of conflicting information. Daily. Health officials, Government officials, local officials. Bowls NSW, Bowls Australia, Zone Officials and so on.

Then you have Club Board Members, who read something on the Internet. We can’t have beer coasters, but we can if we don’t hand them out. We can have straws, but we can’t. But maybe we can. What if a patron wipes their arse on the toilet paper? What if a patron before them ripped a sheet of toilet paper off before them? Should we video tape it?

    It’s truely bizarre.

Then you get all the wanna be brown shirts about. Plenty of them, volunteering to wear a high viz vest and throwing a jackboot on someone’s throat.

Tim Mander was at our Friday early voting, his office staff over the years have been receptive and responsive.
I am surprised that even after 4 years of Trumps bi passing of the fake news media that it is not apparent why LnP leaders who have surpassed themselves loose their seats and mere Tim Manders are ghosts . V ery surprised.
The thing is what to do about it.

So the LNP in QLD lost last night and lost badly. The result was a thumping win to Labor. Reminds me of the result in Victoria in 2018. Both were inevitable results when you run Labor lite campaigns and have Labor lite leaders. As a start…..did Freckleface push back re. the “euthanasia” laws? Probably not. The problem with conservative and right-wing politics and politicians here in Australia is that they continue to mouth many Labor and even Green policies…whether it be climate change, SSM, abortion, euthanasia and so on.

  196. Cassie of Sydney

It appears that a full on war against Christianity and Christians is happening in France. Macron is already wilting. I suspect Michel Houellebecq’s scenario in Submission is beginning to eventuate….

“France terror attack: Priest shot at Lyon church as France reels from Nice stabbings
A Greek Orthodox priest has been seriously injured after a gunman opened fire in the French city of Lyon just days after a terror attack on worshippers in Nice.

A Greek Orthodox priest has been seriously injured after gunman opened fire while the clergyman was closing up his church in the French city of Lyon.

Authorities have locked down part of the city as police hunt the assailant, who struck around 4pm on Saturday (local time).

The Lyon public prosecutor’s office said it had opened an investigation for attempted murder, and was liaising with the national anti-terrorism prosecutor.

The man was locking up his church when a gunman struck at around 4pm on Saturday.*
It comes as French President Emmanuel Macron said that he could understand if Muslims were shocked by cartoons of the prophet M**hammed, as French authorities on Saturday sought to ascertain if a young Tunisian suspected of killing three people in a knife rampage inside a church had outside help.

France is still reeling from the latest attack in Nice, which Mr Macron has already described as “Islaaaaaaaaamist” terror.

The nation is on edge after the republication in early September of cartoons of the prophet M*hamm*d by the Charlie Hebdo weekly, which was followed by an attack outside its former offices, the beheading of a teacher and now the attack in Nice.

Mr Macron sparked protests in the Muesli world after the murder earlier this month of teacher Samuel Paty, who had shown his class a cartoon of M*hamm*d, by saying France would never renounce its right to caricature.

Nothing changes dummies, Palachook and her party – wholly endorsed by QLD tonight and so a perfect expression of Queenslanders general cultural ideals and mind (as Dan Andrews is Victoria’s), would sit comfortably in the centre of the Victorian Liberal party.

TBH twostix, the Qld ALP, particularly Premier and Treasurer would be to the right of a majority of the liberal party, and quite a few nationals.
The ALP left has lost Trad and now have the utter lightweight Steven Miles as its leader (he will be made deputy premier I expect).

Let’s not forget that Pauline practically delivered three seats to Palace-Chook in 2017 with her – wait for it – “vote the sitting member last” campaign, which just happened to be run hardest in seats held by the LNP.

I am grateful that during it’s overnight posting binge the fake has ditched the phony bonhomie in it’s constant, unsolicited comments about my work.
Which is what I wanted. It was time.
As desired, people can see a little of what it is. Maybe it gets to see it too.
I have never had any doubt what it is.
When I first began posting links to my videos here, naturally a lot of readers looked at them just to see what one of their fellow posters looked like and sounded like. They would do the same if any of us posted anything.
About 85% of them looked at a bit of a vid and went: “Meh, this bloke doesn’t really interest me”.
Which is cool. It would be a bit surprising and unsettling if everyone found what interests me, or my presentation of it, worth hours of their life.
    ..
What those hundreds of Catallaxy readers didn’t do, because they are not mental cases or trolls, is subscribe so they could unsubscribe the same minute, and then spend two years giving a running commentary on something they don’t like, hiding behind a jocular facade.
Some of you, casually observing, think it is just having a joke, or even doing me a favour by by bringing my channel attention.
It isn’t. I get to see it’s actions on my YouTube dashboard, and match it up to the fake “funny” comments.
I have really enjoyed the comments from most of you on the little vids I do. I did not expect that. I did expect to get some ridicule, and was prepared for it. If you like the vids, you might subscribe, doesn’t cost anything.
    https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCuW3EcTAbz5vovQl-HqXYmg
    ..
If you don’t like them, you can down vote a vid or the whole channel. No skin off my nose. You can even post a comment on the channel saying why you think it’s shit. Some have, again, it’s as free world and I have zero control over your opinion on me, nor do I want to.
What I would rather you not do is become weirdly obsessed with me.
I have one of those already.
I have been pretty sensitive to the fact that Catallaxy is not my blog, and there are times an open thread gets gunked up with comments about me. Which is uncomfortable as I’m not that interesting. I usually take my leave for a bit if that occurs.
My channel does between 80 to 100 viewers a day whether I post a vid or not, mostly from Americans doing Youtube searches. It is never going to make me money or fame, but it’s good fun and strangely enough, some people, for whatever reason, enjoy the vids and watch them all the way through.
Maybe it’s just the algorithms crawly things checking my videos for bad content. Dunno. I like to think someone watches them.
I would suggest you ignore anonymous dickheads who don’t have the guts to put anything of themselves out there or ever show up in real life, except that is the nature of a blog comment section.
And this is my last word on that thing.
