Hastie is 100 percent correct. Unless and until police charge named individuals with offences, no good – and certainly no natural justice – has come from hyperventilating about alleged ‘war crimes.’ If a couple of dozen murderers who also happen to be trained killers (and a definite flight risk) are abroad in society, why haven’t they been arrested – even remanded? Former SASR captain Hastie, now Chairman of the Parliamentary Joint Committee on Intelligence and Security, is also to be thanked and commended for rubbishing the throat-slitting porno stories recklessly retailed by Samantha Crompvoets. About those:
Otherwise known as lies. And sometimes as Chinese whispers. The good news is that whenever Carlton has one of his emotional meltdowns, you always know you’re over the target. Even old DFAT desk jockeys have crawled out of their wine cellars this morning to attack Hastie. Here’s one who skips gingerly between hackneyed left-wing bitchiness and a law suit:
There are no unanswered or troubling questions surrounding Andrew Hastie’s war service. That’s just a has-been lashing out. What his speech “served to highlight” was the extremist contempt Australia’s commentary-class elites have for the sacred doctrine that innocence perdures until displaced by guilt (established in court before a disinterested jury). Haigh’s sliming of Hastie proves the point. What a lightweight.
