I posted this Barron’s excerpt yesterday to demonstrate what a cruel place has become.

Does anyone honestly believe there hasn’t been any collusion within the Tech Bloc over the past few days?

    40 months jail.

McNamee points out that federal law, at least, allows for felony treatment of price-fixing actions. Last year, a former CEO of Bumble Bee Foods was sentenced to 40 months in prison for conspiring with rivals StarKist and Chicken of the Sea to fix canned tuna prices. For now, Big Tech is dealing with civil cases. McNamee thinks the details in that 130-page Texas complaint are damning. Google says the case is “meritless.” Facebook has declined to comment. points out that federal law, at least, allows for felony treatment of price-fixing actions. Watching this in real time is incredible. Given this decision by AWS and how it’s infrastructure is used for”mission critical” applications they have now established themselves as a massive risk. To think an American company could decide to stop Australian country operations because it doesn’t like the policies. And as for the comments in the ABC article (ugh) the rules are draconian. Yeah but they change and are subjectively applied with almost no right of recourse. Never say it couldn’t happen, because it just has. To focus this only on Parlers banning is short sighted. It highlights the power that exists in these companies to force elected governments to bend to their will. A few dozen tech billionaires control the world. No thanks.

And who can doubt that it will lead to the worst disorders when minds created free by God are compelled to submit slavishly to an outside will?
When we are told to deny our senses and subject them to the whim of others?
When people devoid of whatsoever competence are made judges over experts and are granted authority to treat them as they please?
These are the novelties which are apt to bring about the ruin of commonwealths and the subversion of the state.
That was Galileo almost 500 years ago.

Today I’ve joined Rumble and also Dave Rubin’s new site called “Locals” which already has Michael Malice and Scott Adams as members. Both Malice and Adams are going to post most of their stuff on Locals now. I expect more well known youtubers to move to alt sites like Locals, Rumble and Bitchute.

As youtuber Styx says we have to support alt-tech. These attacks on Parler and other alt-tech sites have actually gone on for a long time. The major tech platforms – Twitter, Facebook,Google, Apple, Youtube, Instragram etc. want to completely shut down platforms providing alternative views to the progressive leftist narrative. The last few days have simply given them the ultimate reason to do so….they’ve actually been itching for this for a long time. The progressive left have smeared sites like Gab, Parler, Minds, Bitchute as far-right platforms….of course they’re not

However, there’s hope in the future…..the web will be increasingly decentralised…however we really need to support these alternative platforms.

I think this has established a need for multi-vendor redundancy for mission critical cloud-based applications.

I believe there is the potential for a lot of money to be made by whosoever develops the necessary technology.

Amazon, Facebook and Google own an enormous amount of fibre in in America, much traffic traverses their physical networks and small DC’s have to peer with them or use someone who does to be competitive.

As these radical right wing extremist social media sites figure out how to use smaller DC’s and providers that’ll be the next choke point – threatening their dc’s and smaller network providers peering arrangements.

Only because they’re aggressively chasing Amazon’s market.

Yeah, Azure is the new boy and they started pretty sketchy, but they are determined to grow fast. If you read their terms and conditions it’s remarkably professional and reasonable although there’s always wiggle room available and your lawyers typically cannot beat Microsoft’s lawyers.

They will IMHO drive AWS out of profitability, simply by force of chasing the market share as you say … and don’t forget that AWS is something like 2/3 of the profit stream for the larger Amazon as a whole. The main part of Amazon (the bit that runs warehouses and sells packages) runs on crazy thin margins, and they are debt loaded too, so a few percent interest rate rise will make the whole enterprise nonviable … or at best a Chapter 11 debt for equity exchange.

  47. Tel

Wake me when normies start using Gab.

Ha ha ha … you lose … needed to change your story didn’t you?

  48. twostix

It’s a thought actually. Parler being brand new and all in on AWS alone is stupid and suggests to me it was never serious about staying around. Who would build an app like that as an alternative to Twitter for non-leftists in 2020 all in on AWS?

They know full well what pressure points that would be used to get rid of them are. We’ve seen it before.

So apparently it was either built by retarded cuckservatives who believe all that dumb stuff about business only caring about business, or they are just shit, or something else.

This has further splintered the right, right at the critical moment.

Ironically now only Gab stands. Ironic because it’s where the alt-social media started, ironic because conservatives hmrphed at it because it’s where all the misfits and bigoty bigots that first got banned off Twitter went to and now it’s where all those same conservatives getting banned for now being the ‘right wing extremists’ – as predicted, will end up too.

There’s been heaps of collusion, but not of the price fixing variety that watchdog regulators tend to worry about. With regards to most of these platforms the end-users ARE the product which gets sold to advertisers, and that’s been a standard media revenue model going back to newspapers and free-to-air radio.

The type of collusion where they all count to 10 and kick one particular user off all their platforms simultaneously, with a suitable debbil debbil cover story is something new I think. Maybe someone else can come up with an example out of history.

Andrew Torba (the creator and head of Gab) has kept going, persisting against the hysteria, the smears and the lies…..Torba’s been personally attacked and, as someone said above, he’s even had his bank account shut down.

Because of what the Gab platform has faced over the last few years, Gab, unlike Parler, is prepared for this. Gab was booted off Google and Apple years ago.

  74. WDYSIA

I am surprised to hear that Parler was not prepared for this given everyone knew it was coming, Cassie. From what I hear they are planning to be back within a week if they go down, but they should have been ready to announce their new platform the minute Amazon pulled their servers. Still, that may explain why there is a real Donald Trump account on Parler but it is protected. He is not going public only to go down again. Maybe Gab will host Parler?

The Dems want Trump dead because he knows where the skeletons are (I am sure he will write a book anyway) and because he can be a kingmaker for the midterms and run again in 2024. This is why they are deplatforming him and his supporters and trying to discredit him to everyone else, apart from pure hate of course. If he is impeached successfully this time then he will be disqualified from running in 2024 and that should also lessen his influence for the midterms. The impeachment can be heard after the inauguration from what I understand, when the Dems control the house. His personal popularity worked in his favour when he was impeached the first time which is why it is critical he doesn’t lose support now.

I have work to do but I can’t look away. This will have massive repercussions for us here too, as people will start parroting the tired lies that oh, terms of service, hate speech and so on. Labor politicians will be on the bandwagon of course but so will LNP. Not a single public figure will even ask: who gave some app store the authority to police speech for everyone in the world? Of course…but the stupid fucking Liberals give the slag credibility. Remember back in early March when Slag Keneally put up the senate motion to censor an Australian citizen for her free speech (Bettina Arndt) and the whole senate Liberal party supported the motion…thereby giving credibility to Slag Keneally.

You see, instead of putting her in her place, the Liberal party have just continued to affirm her. No surprises that she’s latching onto this Parler thing. I knew this would happen a few days ago.

There are some grotesque people in our parliament but I can honestly say that Slag Keneally is the worst. She is a disgrace…a pious, sanctimonious slag.

You see, instead of putting her in her place, the Liberal party have just continued to affirm her. No surprises that she’s latching onto this Parler thing. I knew this would happen a few days ago.

That is the more serious problem … that the boot of big government will be the thing that finally stomps free speech … but hey that’s what Libertarians have been warning about since forever. It’s really hard to find technical workarounds when they can simply declare anything they disagree with to be illegal.

Deep down both the major parties in Australia know they are vulnerable to smaller parties getting first preferences as protest votes. Even if the major parties can still scrape a win out of votes further down the ticket, they lose their valuable government payments from those first preference votes (several dollars per vote and it adds up) and worse for the major parties is that the protest becomes visible when first preference votes are published by the AEC. For this reason, both the major Australian parties have a massive incentive to tighten up what you are “allowed” to talk about, and ensure it’s only a few issues that won’t give much scope for debate on anything they are nervous about.

There’s the real problem … not who gets kicked out of a data center.

I haven’t looked at Gab before; it’s a lot easier for a non-user to see what’s being posted. The paid Gab Pro is a damned fine idea. I think people are starting to realise that the silicon socialist model of free stuff just means you get owned. Parler will lose a lot of business to them if they don’t have their act together by midnight their time.

  87. Mother Lode

So the question is, do the idiots on the left realise they’re just being used by big tech to build monopolies?

    Do they care?

They don’t care because they don’t realise.

They think in terms of side and without ever examining it are convinced that they will never fall foul of doctrine – big brother will always agree with them. After all, diversity never applied to thought. Look at Numbers. Have you ever seen a more benighted individual? He hates who the left tells him to, for the reasons they tell him to, with absolutely no understanding. He exalts in vicarious victories to cover for not having his own.

The left offers people a sense of refuge and protection. It offers them certainty. It offers safety in numbers (no pun intended). These are all feelings. Bringing intellect is dangerous because it might lead to different conclusions that the mob and hence ostracism. The most talkative people merely recite or reiterate within established doctrine.

Don’t know about that. Look at Spotify, it has a “free” version with ads and a paid version without ads. I don’t think its footprint would be very large at all if it only had a paid model. It would be all Apple and Amazon with Spotify in the weeds.

Sorry, Entropy you are right of course. But I also thought that the Gab pro offering was substantial compared to the free vs paid offerings on some other platforms.

I am very surprised Parler didn’t prepare for this.

I’m not that surprised, it takes time and money to be prepared, in addition I think the extent of Big Tech’s action is probably well beyond what anyone might have envisaged a few short months ago.

You knew very well what you were posting and yet you deliberately posted it to cause maximum offence. I don’t like being smeared as racially and socially inferior because I’m not. “Cassie, I understand people are sick of the “far right” abuse. “

Yes I am…and it isn’t just that slur. This person who calls himself “Faily Llama” came on here a few months ago (the weekend that Trump was diagnosed with Covid) and threw a slur around about Trump being a “corrupt lying slut”. I took issue with that. Unlike Numbers, unlike Monty (who I am quite fond of) he pretends to be a conservative…but he’s not. There are many conservatives who may not like Trump’s style…but they understand why Trump was elected.

And calling someone “untermensch”….he should have been kicked off. That was disgusting…not even Numbers has ever used that term. Bird is dealt with swiftly…and Bird is at least amusing and has serious mental problems…Daily Llama is neither amusing nor has the excuse of mental problems.

I don’t see anyone else having much Sway over Trump, so what do you call trumpism?

So Trump is a Fascist because he doesn’t suborn his will to others? You are absolutely brain-dead.

  165. Daily llama

See? That’s childish nonsense, and you often do it to lots of people. Censorship? Here? What? This is what happens. Surely your not suggesting there’s some real crackpots here? Look at the links the post- Infowars for eg denied Sandy Hook until forced to pay $100 k. And there’s the various so-called patriot sites- there as wacky as BLM

  166. Rex Anger

    Spitter,
    You are presenting false dichotomy.

Fascism and socialism are the same collectivist tyranny. The only difference is a narrow nationalist or racial focus in the former, vs. a globalist outlook on the latter.

Based on that alone, your question is dishonest and not worthy of answering.

If you dared to look past venomously lobbing the MSM’s bile and trollshits at us, and beyond your preconceptions of the man’s character, and looked at the policies he presented and his supporters voted for, you would find your answer.

  167. Dot

Jesus Christ you’re an idiot Llama. He followed the law, governed under the constitution and is not of the same ideology as me, but he reduced the regulation of the economy and society. He’s a leader because he is a powerful person, stuck to his guns and was a focal point for those opposed to the lunatics that infested the Democrat party from about 2012 onwards.

  168. Daily llama

It’s no coz he doesn’t suborn to others, but many see him as there ultimate ruler, above and beyond any other tiers of government. You still seem to be missing the point- don’t you think we’re on a precipice? What happens next?

  169. Cassie of Sydney

“Now, 80 percent of it is abusing Numbers. It should be renamed the Numbers Forum.”

You have a valid point. I’ve been trying to avoid the OT today in order to avoid the awful little man from Toowoomba. But I ask…..why shouldn’t we respond to troll nonsense? They’re not here to learn? They’re only here to push their progressive gunk or, as in the poster above does, their “racial superiority”!

  170. incoherent rambler

why shouldn’t we respond to troll nonsense?

    Because they are baiting you.
Their aim is to illicit a response and clutter up a thread with trash, thus making the thread near unreadable.

This makes no sense. Trump upheld Judicial and Legislative edicts during his time in office. But Trump is Fascist because you claim that his followers see him as an ultimate ruler. Stellar reasoning Bucko.

Please tell us “what happens next”, genius…

It was the qualifier UNFORTUNATELY that made it unacceptable, and you know that which is why you left it off this post. Cute. But dumb.

  178. Rex Anger

Yes Rex and Dot….but he LOST

Because certain people with wealth and power (or access to same) and desire for yet more, felt so threatened by the man and all the little consumers who agreed with him, that they threw ebtire fortunes at getting rid of him by any and all means necessary.

That had nothing to do with the character of the man himself, but everything he was deemed to represent.

Donald Trump was not, is not and never will be the cause of the chaos you have chosen to panic over. He is a catalyst. The same people would have reacted just as vehemently to Bernie Sanders, except that they figured out his price early on and felt it a valid risk/reward to pay out.

  179. Boambee John

    Llama

Far right is fascism, one leader.

Stalin was “one leader”, as was Lenin, Mao, Pol Pot, a succession of Kims in North Korea. That definition is so simplistic as to be utterly useless.

Why not go to a genuine fascist leader for a description?

Everything within the state, nothing outside the state, nothing against the state. Benito Mussolini.

A key characteristic of fascism is the subordination of big business to the state, they get to keep their business, as long as they do what they are told. The Demonrats think that the Tech Oligarchs are obedient to them. This could be a major error, but at the moment, the Demonrats are attempting to implement genuine fascism in the US.

It has been debated in national parliaments across the entire western world whether there is such a thing as a “man” and a “woman”. Laws are being passed on the basis that, no, there is no such thing it’s all made up.

    How are they more crazy?

  204. Albatross

A hopeful response to massive institutional corruption seems relatively benign to me. 208. Cassie of Sydney

“There’s also a story online somewhere about a man in a woman’s body In Canada who tried to sue several body centres because he/she had male genitalia and they refused to shave her.”

Old news Lame, this pervert is called Jonathan Yaniv, an autogynephiliac MAN who identifies as Jessica Yaniv….HE is a serial litigant who had been given a lot of leeway and credibility by various Canadian government human rights tribunals. HE got the feminist Meghan Murphy kicked off Twitter because Murphy accurately said that men can’t become women.

HE finally met HIS match with a British Columbia human rights tribunal, NOT because of HIS sick perversion in wanting beauty therapists (he targeted mainly migrant women in Vancouver working in their homes) to wax HIS dick but because HE sent racist letters and emails to them after they refused to wax HIS DICK. So HIS complaint wasn’t upheld…due to HIS racism.

Yaniv is on record fantasising about wanting to enter women’s bathrooms to view adolescent girls with their tampons hanging out of their vaginas.

These kind of perversions are routinely given credibility by the progressive left…and watch them become empowered with Sniffy Biden as president.

Worse than crazy….sick, demented, revolting….all given legitimacy by the progressive left..and yet you’re obsessed QANON.

I have come late to this thread. Sorry.

I have kids and grandkids that are scared shitless, and don’t see this all as just politics as normal

Listen Daily Llama. I am scared shitless!!! It is horrifying to watch the determination of the Democrats to exact their “pound of flesh” & impeach Donald Trump – apparently blind to the growing outrage of his supporters and their conviction that the election result was improperly reached.

Non partisan intel experts like David Kilcullen have been warning all year about this very outcome after the presidential election. Like so many civil wars of the past, the inevitability of this conflict is so very very depressing.

Just as depressing is the developing cleavage in opinion in this country over culpability. Many respected friends, who don’t seek a broad coverage of facts, are falling for the very partisan media coverage. Indeed, Trump’s “outsider” origin and his narcissistic personality, are almost guaranteeing that they support his condemnation, despite not liking Biden or the Democrats.

I am wide-eyed at this developing saga. Significant history being made – and we are but by-standers.

Yup Vicki, I have growing unease about the departure from the norms we are seeing. Previous generations even though there was deep animosity just let it go when the final call was made. Nixon was an outlier but hey the hands were well and truly caught in the cookie jar. Trump has conceded and is handing over despite a bitter campaign. That should be the end of it, they even cheated their way to having a narrow Senate majority. What more do they want?

I mentioned over on the election thread, beware of a cornered man with nothing to lose. He still has 9 days to cause havoc administratively and has the will to do it if he chooses. Pelosi is playing a dangerous game for someone who is so compromised by the swamp, the animosity is such he could attempt to take her down with him…

There’s a certain set of crimes which must be committed in order to qualify for a RICO indictment.

The idea of “cartel-like behaviour” is ill defined so there’s no laws against it. Instead there are situations like, “The FCC is unhappy with what you have been doing” … these in turn require alphabet people to see it in their interests to start leaning on those corporations, which only happens when the corporates get out of line.

Q anon is just one group on Gab and the seem outnumbered by many others. Gab picked up 600000 new subscribers in the last 24 hours, brought a number of servers online to cope with increased demand and optimised them, launched their own YouTube alternative and also a phone which had been a long time coming but seemed to have come at the right time. It really is quite an agile little outfit. The CEO, who’s just a young man of 30 or so, posts videos from a really unremarkable and slightly shabby lounge room with his baby girl screaming off camera. This guy, who has been vilified, defamed and blacklisted everywhere can only be admired for what he’s achieved. This post just an hour or so ago https://gab.com/a/posts/105536374217839170
I only learnt about Gab in the last 24 hours so I don’t know what this guy was in the past but I’m impressed with what he’s becoming in the present. Yes there’s some preaching and slight paranoia at times but when you have been threatened and blacklisted by Visa, I don’t blame him.

A couple of big names seem to be confident that Parler will be back but after listening to their CEO crying about things being impossible I’m not sure it will be a week.
