So few things have happened on Greg Hunt’s watch …

Well, er, no shit. This is the same government that apparently is concerned about the advertising market share that Google and Facebook have. So they have two choices:

  1. Advertise with the traditional media and attract fewer eyeballs at a higher cost per eyeball.
  2. Swallow their pride and admit there is a good reason to advertise with Google and Facebook and let the traditional media develop new business models to finance their business.

There is another. Dump all of the propaganda posing as information. Start by scrapping all of the Covid-19 and vaccine agitprop.

    Yes. Exactly.

  4. Stu says:

The reason you advertise with Facebook and Google is so that you get your ad to the right, targeted, audience. If you’re just trying to reach as many “eyeballs” as possible then less reason to advertise with them.

Zuckerberg has previously squared off with and sparred with US politicians.

Our politicians are minnows who will be forced to ignominiously back down – they just don’t know it yet.

I’ll cite certain $50billion dollar submarine [email protected] kup that suggests this might go on a great deal longer than any sane person would reasonably anticipate

At my work we use Facebook to target certain demographics or certain locations. It is quite good value for money, only possible because Facebook knows absolutely everything about you suckers that use Facebook.

It is also cheaper that dead tree advertising.

Turns out Farcebook have been cheating their advertisers with deliberately overstated view numbers.

Kicking them out seems the right decision.

What do we have courts for?

  10. Albatross says:

Why is our Government conducting advertising? Do they have something we want to buy?

  11. Chris M says:

What do we have courts for?

Read it. THEY have courts, very specific courts they require you to use.

  12. Jannie says:

Maybe the US Government has more options.

Nationalise Facebook. Compensate shareholders at about 20% of “market” value. That will appear to be a good price after the government runs it for a few years. It appears to be a “natural monopoly”, and cannot be broken up by anti trust prosecutions.

Hit Google with anti trust legislation and break it up into 100 different companies. And while they are at it Nationalise Youtube, and turn it into a public library.

So Dr Greg doesn’t have universal fandom. I thought it was just me.
    Thanks Sinclair.
Amazing, we are having a spat with Big-Tech and the government is spending more cash on advertising.
    Advertising vaccinations – sweet Jesus!

  14. Alex Davidson says:

Hunt put on a bit of a show in Parliament a few days ago over Facebook. He called their actions “outrageous and unacceptable”, and “an assault on people’s freedom”; ending with an angry coup de grâce: “perhaps it’s time to put people over profit”.

As a senior member of the political class, he would know all about assaulting people’s freedom, since that nicely sums up virtually everything the government does these days. And isn’t putting ‘people over profit’ the clarion-call of socialism and the far-left?

We are NOT buying it. That’s why the government wants to advertise.

Looks like Scotty-from-Marketing’s office is stage managing everything, KRudd style.

    So they have two choices:

No no they have other choices:
    3. Spend all the money on health and focus on services instead of propaganda.

    Unrealistic you say?!?

    There’s an even better choice:
    4. Go along with what it says in the Australian Constitution and health is a matter for the states nothing to do with the Commonwealth. Read section 51 and spend the money on those things only.

Oh God – Greg “Rambo” Hunt.!
